Image tagging for Image:Nalgo banner.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Nalgo banner.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

The American Metaphysical Circus

Have did some more research and made some copy mods - US vs. UK, etc. If you find that record, see if you can verify/complete the musicians list? Thanks! Tvccs 13:45, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Okay...in need of help now on Joe Byrd

I just spoke with Joseph Byrd for about an hour after getting a lengthy e-mail from him...and I mentioned a couple of the things you said. If there's any way you can lay your hands on this UK sampler you spoke of, scan the cover front/back, and identify what USA track was on it...we'd both like to know - it was news to him as well, and he'd love to see it. If you really wanna have "fun", I have permission from him to create a Lyrwiki for TAMC, as there is already one for USA - I don't have the record where I can get my hands on it. Any thoughts? I am going to see if I can find this sampler as well. Thanks for any and all assistance, and for your input already - very helpful. Tvccs 22:10, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Actually...I see you already identified the single and sampler track...thanks...looking for the art now. Tvccs 22:15, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Paul Welbourne, Audio Reproduction Consultant???

Can you please provide more information on this one???...thanks. 65.217.38.131 00:31, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

AMC Lyrwiki

Would you be willing to do an AMC Lyrwiki? USA has one linked at the bottom of the album page that should serve as a guideline and Byrd has authorized it to me - I'm willing to do a redirect from Joe to Joseph, but I haven't done one prior and don't know how...yet. The lyrics are on the back cover. Tvccs 12:05, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Here's the link... http://lyriki.com/index.php?title=United_States_of_America:United_States_of_America_%281968%29 Tvccs 13:53, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

The Rock Machine Turns You On

I found your page on these samplers...and then found the art for the second album and added it to the page - this was also reissued on CD in 1996 - modify layout as you wish - I will pass the info along to Joseph Byrd. Thanks again Tvccs 13:21, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Minor edits

I think you should be careful what you flag as minor. I am sure that adding a citation does not count as minor.

see Help:Minor edit.

Thanks for the reference on the 1844 sinking. Do you have anything for the 1855 sinking ?

The Use of Ashes

You changed "jewellery" (UK spelling) to "jewelry" (US spelling). Why ? Most of the world does not live in the US, including me, the UK-based author of the page. Please only make changes which are necessary. Ghmyrtle 11:19, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

My apologies, it was a genuine mistake. I'm well aware of the differences between British and American English; indeed as someone living in England, I use the former myself. I'm also aware of Wikipedia's policy of not changing between American and British spellings (unless it's to restore consistency within an article). In this case, changing from jewellery to jewelry accidentally got onto my bot's spelling list, and I've removed it now. Thanks for pointing out the mistake. CmdrObot 21:38, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Ernie Fields

Hi, I noticed that you created the article about Ernie Fields, and it's great. My aunt is his daughter, and she gave me his birth date for my genealogy records (you can't see the dates on that page because they are private), so I changed the birth date on his page to the date she gave me, which is also found in the Social Security Death Index and elsewhere on the web, so I believe it is the correct one. --Michael WhiteT·C 15:17, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Alela Diane

A tag has been placed on Alela Diane, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Daniel J. Leivick 23:30, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Sorry I should have taken a look before, nominating for a speedy, but it looked like any one of the dozens of usual vanity pages that get created every couple of minutes. I will remove the nomination as it can clearly be sourced. --Daniel J. Leivick 23:45, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
I disagree. I think it fails WP:BAND. My interpretation: I think if an article makes the assertion that it's notable in the way WP:BAND permits, it should be saved from the speedy and sent to WP:AFD if there's any further question of notability or whether the asserted notability is genuine. However, this particular article's assertion of notability doesn't jibe with WP:BAND since it only refers to one self-release, and one independent label release. If any other editors disagree with this interpretation, let me know, and I'd be happy to send it on to AFD instead. --adavidw 01:23, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Alela Diane

Please note that I didn't actually delete the Alela Diane article. The only thing I did was to tag it as a potential speedy delete candidate. It's an administrator's job to come along and review it and determine whether it meets the Criteria for Speedy Deletion. In this case User:NawlinWiki reviewed it and deleted it, citing criteria A7, which says "An article about a real person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject." This criteria doesn't say that the artist isn't notable, it just says that there's nothing in the article that says why or how the subject is notable.

I see now that the subject is indeed probably notable enough to satisfy the Wikipedia guidelines. However, the article didn't say anything about why she was notable, nor did it provide any sort of references to establish notability, and that's evidently why NawlinWiki chose to delete it. It appears that the deletion review will probably succeed, at which point you should have no problem finding reputable sources to include in the article to establish notability. Even if the deletion review doesn't succeed, you can always rewrite the article to include this information, and the upload it again. Nobody seeing a properly sourced article like that would make any attempt to delete it. --adavidw 20:16, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification. I accept that the original article didn't say enough about notability and I'd be happy to rewrite it to do that. Other than going through User:NawlinWiki's talk page, is there any other action I need to take at this point ? Advice appreciated. Ghmyrtle 22:17, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
There's nothing more to do at this point. Just keep an eye on the deletion review. Either it will bring the page back and you can put more information in, or it'll stick and you'll be able to upload a new page (as long as it has the sources and references everyone's looking for). --adavidw 22:52, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Alela Diane - revised article

Alela Diane Menig (b 1983, Nevada City, California) is an American singer and songwriter, who is associated with the psych folk and New Weird America musical genres.

She grew up singing with her musician parents and performing in the school choir. She taught herself guitar, and began writing songs which blend tense, trance-like arpeggios with warm vocals and meditative lyrics about family and nature. Her first recordings were self-released in 2003 as “Forest Parade”. Her first public appearances were at the invitation of fellow Nevada City native Joanna Newsom.

The songs for her next album, “The Pirate’s Gospel”, were written on a trip to Europe. They were recorded in her father’s studio and were initially again self-released in 2004, in paper and lace sleeves with hand lettering. The album was issued in revised form by Holocene Music [1]in October 2006, and received widespread critical acclaim [2] [3] [4] [5] [6].

Five new songs were issued on a limited-edition 10” vinyl pressing, “Songs Whistled Through White Teeth”, released in the UK in October 2006.

Alela Diane has toured in the USA both solo and with Tom Brosseau and Lisa Germano, and has also opened for the Decemberists, Akron/Family and Vashti Bunyan. She will be performing in the UK in April 2007. According to a recent interview [7] she intends releasing her second album later this year. She now lives in Portland, Oregon.

Discography

  • Forest Parade, self-released, 2003
  • The Pirate's Gospel, self-released, 2004
  • The Pirate's Gospel, Holocene Music, 2006 (revised track listing)
  • Songs Whistled Through White Teeth, Names Records (UK), 2006 (10” vinyl)

Editors that don't provide an edit summary tend to look like vandals

I have noticed you commonly don't enter an edit summary as you didn't when you edited User talk:NawlinWiki (see this edit). This causes me problems. When I patrol for vandalism, I use the summary to make a preliminary decision on whether or not the post is a vandal edit or not. If the summary is present (or at least a section header, the part inside the /* */), I commonly decide the edit is legit and move on.

However, if no edit summary is available, I typically resort to loading the diff for the edit. This takes time. For that reason, if your edits are all valid, I ask that you provide edit summaries. For more on how to enter an edit summary, please read Help:Edit summary.

Incidentally, it is not just me that appreciate having edit summaries. When you omit your summary, you may be telling various bots that you are vandalizing pages. For this reason, please consider providing that summary. It is very important. You can enter that summary via the edit summary box on edit pages (as shown below).

The edit summary appears in black italics in the following places: * Use the enhanced watchlist to see all recent changes in the watched pages, not just the last change in each page.

How to move a page

Please see WP:MOVE about how to move a page properly, and why copying and pasting like you did with Espers II is bad. Have a nice day. --PEJL 11:56, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Not only that, but in this case you're wrong. The correct name of the album is II (per All Music Guide, MusicBrainz, iTunes Music Store and Amazon), so the old page name is correct. You were probably looking at the CDDB info in iTunes, which is notoriously unreliable. I'm going to undo the move. --PEJL 12:11, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Millie_jackson.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Millie_jackson.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BigrTex 20:45, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Syndicateofsound.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Syndicateofsound.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2007, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 11:16, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I guess it was you who just informed me on de:Benutzer Diskussion:Wahrerwattwurm. I'll take a look at the English version of Laura's article and maybe add some small informations if required. Greetings from --85.177.77.238 16:19, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

PS: If you need a translation from some (not too long) chapters of my German article, just let me know. --Wahrerwattwurm 16:31, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
My sources are mentioned on the bottom of the German article − mostly Michelle Kort's biography of Laura. But for a complete translation I ain't got the time, voluminous as it is. --Wahrerwattwurm 16:43, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Tony Crombie

My point is that Crombie is above all else known as a jazz musician, and the kind of jazz he played was mostly bebop and some hard bop. To me it was like removing bebop from a Charlie Parker article. As for categorizing musicians, it sure beats plain old "jazz musician". That helps nobody. Jazz fans like to know what kind of jazz a musician plays, for the variations are great. The difference between a bebop musician and a swing music musician is not a small one, and this sort of categorization helps people find other artists that produce or produced similar music. There is no overcategorization if a musician in fact plays in a variety of genres. That is called proper categorization. (Mind meal 14:57, 16 July 2007 (UTC))

Blues musicians by genre

Please see this list I created, and see if you find it acceptable: Lists of blues musicians by genre. I should include R&B also, and will do so. I also am not interested in doing state-by-state categorization or lists, as I am only interested in genres. New York blues, Memphis blues, Chicago blues, et cetera. (Mind meal 09:55, 19 July 2007 (UTC))

I included Georgia blues, but am a little unsure about including it. It was my previous understanding that Piedmont blues covers that regional style. Any pointers? (Mind meal 10:18, 19 July 2007 (UTC))
Yeah, I am pretty excited about getting to work on them. If corrections are needed as we go along, no problem. I'll try my best getting everything accurate though. Hope it all goes without a hitch! I'm going to go ahead an remove Georgia blues in light of your agreement on Piedmont. I also added Songster to "blues genres"; technically not a genre really, but it works I think. What do you think?(Mind meal 12:37, 19 July 2007 (UTC))

I agree 100%. (Mind meal 12:40, 19 July 2007 (UTC))

Hey, are you interested in helping start a blues project? I think it could use one. (Mind meal 12:44, 19 July 2007 (UTC))

  • Nice addition to the songster article, it really needed it. I think it is fair to include it in the blues genre realm. As for the project, I think I'll begin work on it in a few days, as soon as I'm done having fun with the categories. I'll need to find someone who can make some templates. (Mind meal 13:24, 19 July 2007 (UTC))

Craig Doerge

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Craig Doerge, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. Avi 17:20, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

I could really use some help, as someone has been nominating all of my lists for deletion. This seems rather odd to me, as they seem fairly straightforward. (Mind meal 03:38, 22 July 2007 (UTC))
