Vandalism On Gina Yashere's page
- Comment - Someone is vandalising British comedian Gina Yashere's page. She is a professional stand up comedian but someone keeps undoing the edits that say she is a plumber. She is not a plumber she is a professional comedian. I tried twice to make the changes but they kept getting edited back by someone or a bot.
Here is the Wikipedia page in question:
http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Gina_Yashere
Please help fix this! Thanks!12.196.37.227 (talk) 21:09, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism Template
Hey there Gfoley4, me again. I have been curious on this vandalism template. Since I am on Huggle2 often and I can see the scale of vandalism, how would I go about editing it? I simply ask because I see you edited it last, and I dont want to mess up any formatting. Thanks! I'm Flightx52 and I approve this message 23:27, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
- Sure! The easiest way to update it is to place the template ({{Vandalism information}}) on your user page. Then click the "update" click on the template. Remove my signature and add yours. Change the level of vandalism to whatever level you think it is. (5 is the least, 1 is the highest) Write a short message in the | info= parameter... And you're done! —GƒoleyFour— 23:36, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
You might also want to try the Qui system to help change your status. —GƒoleyFour— 23:43, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, well thats simple enough! And thanks for Qui, that will definitely help. I'm Flightx52 and I approve this message 16:18, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
Closures
I appreciate you efforts to close deletion discussions, but templates {{rfd top}} and {{rfd bottom}} (and other top and bottom templates) should be substituted. In other words you should type {{subst:rfd top|Reason}} and {{subst:rfd bottom}}. Ruslik_Zero 10:06, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
- Oh alright. I think I first started out doing that but then changed to not substituting over time. Cheers, —GƒoleyFour— 15:34, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Custom user page
Hi, A lot of people use Safari and F/Fox and a lot of people use Mac and Ubuntu, and there is a choice of Wikipedia skins. On my machines (Mac: F/Fox & Safari, PC:IE) the oversized top-icons are covering the tab bar in Monobook. Hope this helps :) --Kudpung (talk) 01:20, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah that is what I saw when I briefly changed my skin to monobook. (I use vector) I have meaning to change the icons to {{topicon}} which should work. It has also come to my attention that the large purple box goes too far to the right. Does this happen with you? —GƒoleyFour— 01:28, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
Well I have made the images use {{topicon}} so monobook should work. —GƒoleyFour— 02:26, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- It seems to be OK now. If you create articles or add elements to pages that need special formatting (tables, images, etc), it's worth checking that you work renders correctly in the common platforms and browsers. It's also interesting to note that although Vector has been the default skin since 2010, a lot of users (particularly editors rather than readers) don't like it and still stick to Monobook. This came to light again last month with all the glitches that the site software upgrade caused. --Kudpung (talk) 02:28, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- Okay sure thing. My late congratulations to your adminship as well! —GƒoleyFour— 02:31, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

See: This. Thanks for refusing the inclusion. This is a brand new account. Long before I got the mop, I had the page fully protected and all the socks blocked. Page Being Vandalised
- This Wikipedia page is being vandalised and has false information in it with no reliable sources:

It is filled with ridiculous claims that the person that the article is about was involved romantically with people like rock star Billy Corgan. The infobox has also been vandalised multiple times to hide the person's date of birth and age.12.196.37.227 (talk) 19:29, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

MfD relists
Thank you for clearing the backlog at MfD. I hope that you'll work on the more difficult discussions when you have gained more experience as an admin. For MfD relists, the time stamp of the relist is needed at the top of the page. This is because One bot (talk · contribs) reads the first time stamp on the page to order the pages according to date. When it is 00:00 tomorrow, One bot would have moved Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:The Prince of Darkness/Ryuji Sasai to the 5 March 2011 header instead of to the 14 March 2011 header if the first time stamp were 09:03, 25 August 2010 (UTC). Rocky Mountain Rocket service
I wonder if it would be possible for you to do one of those nice Navboxes for Rock Island's old Rocky Mountain Rocket line, especially the bit between Belleville, Kans. and Kansas City. I'd like to learn myself how to do it. I found a great schedule here, but I wonder if that includes all the towns the line actually went through. A lot of the track is now abandoned, it is through Manhattan. Regards, WaltBren (talk) 15:21, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Also, Congratulations on becoming an administrator! Keep up the good work! WaltBren (talk) 15:22, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Are you talking about Template:Rocky Mountain Rocket? 'Cause that already exists. Actually, over the weekend I found a issue of the Official Guide of the Railways published in June, 1941. (which is the same as the website schedule) It has 1,500 pages of railroad schedules, including the Rock Island Line. It has all the towns from Chicago to Colorado Springs/Denver with the Rocket schedule included. So yeah, there are more stations along the route than on the website. —GFOLEY FOUR— 15:40, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks and cheers. Gabesta449 edits ♦ chat 19:49, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry but I'm not seeing much vandalism in the past 6–12 hours. As far as I can see, most IP edits have been good. I also don't think pending changes would be helpful since there is so many edits to the article in a short amount of time (and probably not going to let up). —GFOLEY FOUR— 20:03, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Protection of Vang Vieng
Can you reconsider this protection and either go for full protection or remove it. To me it looks like a content dispute. What the IP editor is saying isn't particularly shocking - tourism can have the sort of effects that the IP editor is bringing up. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 20:06, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Unprotected You make a good point. Cheers, —GFOLEY FOUR— 20:14, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Cool, I've got it on my watchlist, and I know enough about South East Asia to be dangerous. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 20:24, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for looking into this, but I'd say that what is going on here goes way, way beyond a content dispute into vandalism territory. To summarize, an anonymous editor repeatedly insisted on adding strongly negative non-NPOV information to the article. Certainly tourism can have these sorts of effects, but the IP editor kept adding claims without any sources that the town is "full of western tourists nursing their hangovers from both alcohol and opium," has "changed drastically - for the worse," is "no longer a magical place," and is "a rather depressing place." This is a clear WP:NPOV and WP:SOAP issue. I discussed the issue very patiently with the user at User_talk:Zachlipton/Archive_2#Vang_Vieng and explained the relevant policies, asking him/her to find sources and to write in an encyclopedic tone, but the editor just called me a fool and reverted any attempt to remove the material. We discussed the issue at Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view/Noticeboard/Archive_19#Vang_Vieng and Talk:Vang Vieng and ultimately wound up adding a neutral, well referenced section to the article that addressed the effects of tourism there through published sources, largely through the efforts of User:Mattun0211. Since then the editor has came back over and over again from a wide range of IPs and has kept trying to add his defamatory material. The page was semi-protected for a couple of weeks, but the reverting has returned after it expired, calling me a fool a few more times for good measure.
- Certainly I'd agree with Eraserhead1 if this hadn't been going on for months, but I think we've done a good job actually addressing the real concern here (effects of tourism on Vang Vieng) and improved the article quite a bit. This editor clearly won't be pleased unless we include his exact derogatory wording, and given the range of IPs he has reverted from, I can't see a less intrusive alternative to semi-protection. Anyway that's my take; curious what you think. Thanks. Zachlipton (talk) 22:51, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- This looks reasonable to me, <shrug> maybe I shouldn't have made my comments. I'm more than happy to weigh in with the IP editor if they come back. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 23:12, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Well I guess we can just wait and see if the POV-pusher returns. I was not aware that discussion of this article has gone to noticeboards and various talk pages. If the IP returns, I will consider a long protection of this page. Cheers, —GFOLEY FOUR— 23:31, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- No worries, and I can see how it would look like a straightforward content dispute at first glance. My edit summaries were pretty minimal given the previous efforts to engage the IP constructively. I'd certainly rather the page be both unvandalized and unprotected, so if the IP has lost interest, that's even better for all concerned. I'll keep an eye out. Thanks again, 00:19, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

Vang Vieng
Hi Gfoley4. The issue with Vang Vieng is not a content dispute. I for one have some sympathy with the IP's view. The IP has, however, been using this page for a rant which breaks numerous Wiki guidelines such as WP:NPV, WP:NOR etc. He or she has also been removing references and the fact that the page has to be constantly repaired means that some of the tidying up that editors (not myself I might add) have carried out has been lost. This has been an ongoing problem when the page is not protected and, I can assure you, will now carry being a problem now that you have unprotected the page. I'm not sure where you got the idea that it's a content dispute from. I reiterate, I'm of a similar view as the vandalising IP, and Zachlipton has said that he has no view, has never heard of the place, and is merely concerned that WP:NPV is being broken. Teh problem with this IP's material has always been that it is a personal view that rides a coach and horse through Wiki policies. If you look in detail, you will see that the IP's material, which uses POV language in extremis, is entirely unsourced - it is just his personal view of the place (albeit a pretty accurate one, many might feel - but that's by-the-by). Pretty much all the source referencing was done by me for this article so I should know. Getting a reliably sourced and more balanced page took a lot of work that is being undermined by this IP. In summary, I think this is a poor bit of administrating. Can you explain exactly why you think this is a content dispute, with reference to Wiki guidelines? Mattun0211 (talk) 02:43, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

- Oh yes - sorry, should have looked. Fair enough. Thanks. Mattun0211 (talk) 04:51, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
I wonder
May I please ask you on what the ground you based your decision? Was it based on consensus and number of active trolls, hounds and socks or on applied wikipedia policies? I have proved beyond a reasonable doubt, that page violates not just one, but quite a few wikipedia policies. May I please ask you to clarify where my reading of wikipedia policies is wrong? A few user said that page should be toned down at least, but you did not bother even to comment on that. One is left to wonder, you read that dr at all, or just counted "keep" votes. Thanks.--Mbz1 (talk) 05:04, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
IP block
Hey, thanks for the note. I'm a little concerned about that block, though - I thought it would put an explanation of the block on the IP's page (User talk:74.212.139.146) but it didn't, and now I'm not sure what to do next. What would you do? Thanks, --JaGatalk 21:48, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Nope, MediaWiki software doesn't automatically place a {{uw-block}} template on the talk page. Since you said {{schoolblock}} in the block summary, you could put that or {{subst:uw-vblock|time=24 hours|sig=yes}} below the warnings. Twinkle can also do this. —GFOLEY FOUR— 21:54, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Dennis Rinsler and Marc Warren etc...
The reason why I separated the articles is because the gentleman aren't working together as a team anymore. I wasn't fully aware of this until after I created the "Dennis Rinsler and Marc Warren" article. I am also aware that content are pretty much the same, but every article on Wikipedia is work in progress. I just found that you redirected "Dennis Rinsler and Marc Warren" to "Marc Warren", perhaps that will suffice for now. :) QuasyBoy 20:44, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- The problem is that the Dennis Rinsler article doesn't have the previous history of Dennis Rinsler and Marc Warren, which should be included. I'm not very familier with history merges so I wouldn't be able to do it. —GFOLEY FOUR— 20:55, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

- Done. But there are a few problems with the copyright. 1) Is it in the Public domain or fair-use? You currently have both on the page 2) If it is fair-use, those images cannot be used in userspace even if it is a draft article. See WP:NFCC#9. —GFOLEY FOUR— 01:49, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

I would start "old school patrolling" on Special:RecentChanges. A thing I used to do before I discovered automated tools like Igloo was click "IP contribs" at the top. Make sure the edit is obvious vandalism. That is something I cannot stress to you enough. If the edit violates one of out core policies but it is not vandalism, click "Undo" and use an edit summary. Also remember that it is not a race; no one will penalize you if you don't revert questionable vandalism, but they could if you do revert it. —GFOLEY FOUR— 19:43, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

So what are you actually saying here, See im new to this Wikipedia business but as you know i have made a lot of contributions already; I dont really see what the problem of that image is, since it was a still taken from a DVD Documentary set (Which i own) "The World at War" which was filmed in the 1970s. Hes been deceased for over 30 years , so what would the problem be ?
Cheers Goldblooded (talk) 19:22, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
- The problem would be that is has no Fair use rationale. All non-free images need one, which that image does not. (Bolierplate copyright tags do not count by themselves) Instructions for filling one out can be see here. Cheers, —GFOLEY FOUR— 19:27, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
So in a nutshell what exactly is "Fair use rationale" ? Sorry if this is a bit of a newbie question but like i said im not famillar with all this business. Goldblooded (talk) 19:33, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
- It basically shows that the image meets Wikipedia's non-free content policy. It has certain things you have to mention (e.g. source, if it could be replaced with a free image). The easiest way is to use a template such as Template:Non-free use rationale. —GFOLEY FOUR— 19:36, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
So you want me to put where i got it from etc ? If it didnt meet the critrea and you didnt delete it what would happen then ? Goldblooded (talk) 19:45, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
- Yep, everything on Template:Non-free use rationale. If you place the 'FUR' on the image, it will not be deleted, provided it is on a page. —GFOLEY FOUR— 19:52, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
FUR
hey there, sorry for pestering you but could you please explain to me what's wrong with the FUR for this File:AbuChabkeh 919840469.jpg? i thought the rationale i wrote was enough. have a good day/night. Eli+ 21:20, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
- Well the image doesn't have a Fair use rationale. You have the "bolierplate tag" which is one of the require parts but they "do not by themselves constitute a rationale." See that link above for filling out a FUR. Cheers, —GFOLEY FOUR— 21:32, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Need help with sourcing a photograph
Hi,
Would you please tell me EXACTLY what words/phrases to be used for a photograph of Arieh Warshel (supplied by Arieh Warshel, to be used on an article on Article)noe, which is facing deletion, in spite of my mentioning that this photo was supplied by Arieh Warshel himself?
This has seem to become a recurring issue now, and, I am sure, soon this will make me forgo all my intellectual pretensions and stop trying to edit/add anything to Wikipedia in the future.
Thank you very much. Sincerely, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Catgunhome (talk • contribs) 21:56, 21 March 2011 (UTC)
- Well, we have no proof that he has given rights to the image. The source/copyright information would become way clearer if you provided a link to the image (if you got it online) or if you have gotten a written statement from him that allows it to be used on WP. If you have that, please e-mail permissions-en@wikimedia.org, providing them with the relevant statement. Cheers, —GFOLEY FOUR— 22:19, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi,
Thanks for reviewing my "X1" article submission. I am no Wiki expert. You declined it, I think, because of quality of sources. I'd like to know what I need to do to have it accepted. There is a short article on the X1 in "Yachts and Yachting" a UK printed magazine and threads on it on the forums "Sailing Anarchy" and the "Yachts and Yachting" forum, Would references to one or more of these solve the problem?
Thanks for your help!
16:34, 22 March 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Martin Dixon (talk • contribs)
- (edit conflict) Yeah we need some better sources. Currently, the only source on the submission is the official website, which would be considered a primary source. We need at least 3 or so secondary sources (not affiliated with the company/product) The book you mentioned would probably be a good source, while the second two might not. Forums/blogs are normally not considered reliable sources since anyone can write on them... The main thing we need to accept your submission is evidence of coverage in reliable sources like recognized books, newspapers, journals etc. I'll look forward to accepting your submission. =) —GFOLEY FOUR— 16:41, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Things you might find useful
Hey, I don't know if you've already found it of your own accord, but since you're active at RfPP (for which I'm very grateful—sometimes I feel like no other admin looks there for weeks), there's a script (User:Steel359/protection.js) that helps you with answering requests and adding tags. If you haven't already, do rummage through User:HJ Mitchell/monobook.js—there are quite a few scripts in there to make some of the more routine admin stuff a bit less work. Thanks in advance, —Ancient Apparition • Champagne? • 4:03pm • 05:03, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- I'm going to have to get to this in the morning. You caught me just as I was about to sleep. —GFOLEY FOUR— 05:10, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Request 2
Could you please delete this redirect: The Incident (video game) in order to make way for an AfC submission. Thanks Jessy T/C 23:14, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- Is something wrong with the submission, that I didn't see? Did you mean to revert yourself? —GFOLEY FOUR— 23:18, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- Nothing wrong with the submission. I accidentally reverted it and when I tried to move it again, well I dont have to tell you the message that showed up. Jessy T/C 23:22, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, it didn't require any deleting; you just add to hit the accept button in the big yellow box, not using the script. —GFOLEY FOUR— 23:25, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

But what do you want me to put in them ?
Goldblooded (talk) 16:36, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks buddy, yeah sorry if im a bit of a noob :( So is it going to get deleted or not?
Goldblooded (talk) 23:39, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
- Nope it seems fine. Please when talking on wikipedia indent your comments by adding a colon in front of what you say. See WP:INDENT. —GFOLEY FOUR— 23:51, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Alright, Thanks for your help as well :)

Reviewer
How long is the process to become a Reviewer? -- DarkFireII13 14:22, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
- Someone should be around pretty soon to evaluate you (if not myself). A quick looks at your edits gives some me concern after you reverted two administrators at User talk:Royalcello. —GFOLEY FOUR— 15:17, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

More vandalism
Greetings. We spoke here ([3]) re: a vandal, and you felt that there was insufficent activity. The vandal has since resurfaced, and vandalized my Talk Page in the last 24 hours ([4]). This would be due to the editor not agreeing with a valid edit and attempting a revert while leaving an uncivil comment in an Edit Summary ([5]). Can something now be done about this matter? Regards Thebladesofchaos (talk) 02:09, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- I've issued a final warning. Next time, the user will be blocked. —GFOLEY FOUR— 02:13, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks GF. Hopefully that will be the end of it. Regards Thebladesofchaos (talk) 02:21, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
As they are using random IP's, I suppose temporary block are all that is possible? I will take advice from you in this matter. Regards. Thebladesofchaos (talk) 05:19, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
I very strongly disagree with your statement that this user's edits do not constitute vandalism. Vandalism is defined partly as deliberately removing content to be disruptive, and that's all this user has been doing. There's a strong likelihood I'll re-report this IP if those edits continue. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:16, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, just because you disagree with someone, doesn't make it vandalism. —GFOLEY FOUR— 18:27, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- It's not "disagreement" though. This individual has been engaging in vandalism regarding genre changes (hasn't been adequately warned for those, I acknowledge) and has since removed content and reverted valid edits in a means to be disruptive, which is vandalism by definition. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:23, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Relook at my Reviewer application
I have recently applied for reviewer status but was denied. i reason was one block which i faced some 6-7 months back. That fiasco was only a form of edit war i entered, i was also new to wikipedia then. from then i have drastically changed my editing and i have stopped uploading items with wrong copyright. Now i am more into reverting vandalism and cleaning of pages. I just wanted u to review the decision. If your decision too is 'no' then what should i do the rectify the fault or i am i left with no other option then starting afresh. -- devx101 [TALK] 13:14, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
- Looking through your edits, I see some vandalism reversion, but it doesn't really stick out compared to your edits—as you are using the "Undo" button. I would suggest installing Twinkle, which really helps reverting and reporting vandalism, and spend a few minutes each day looking through Special:RecentChanges. If you do that and come back in a month or so, you will probably be granted the permission. You may also want to ask HJ Mitchell, who declined your request in the first place. Cheers, —GFOLEY FOUR— 23:58, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Suggestion
In cases like Employee assistance programs where there is one or two editors causing a nuisance, you may like to reach for the block button before hitting the protect button. The former only stops one or two editors, but the latter stops everyone from editing the article! Cheers — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:06, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
- I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the note. —GFOLEY FOUR— 23:58, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

- No! Please do not close the Rfa. That is for the 'crats. —GFOLEY FOUR— 02:37, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
- Then could you please find a 'crat to close the RfA because I am beginning to regard the as a blasted failure of the system. Jessy T/C 02:52, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

It seems the same person is using different IPs to justify a point he thinks is only correct while the rest of the community does not agree on. Dude is starting to be the next 24...173... as in mad annoying as hell.--iGeMiNix 00:49, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

I can't find this published anywhere on the Puppet Theatre Barge website, and the image page has a "self published" template. Is the problem just the lack of confirmation that the uploader is the same person as in the summary? Peter E. James (talk) 18:18, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah; if they just put a "I (User:xxx) Created this work all by myself" tag on it, it would probably be okay. —GFOLEY FOUR— 22:13, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Urgent matter
How would you find the amount of minor edits you made on the English Wikipedia. Jessy T/C 20:55, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
- I not sure if such a tool exists—X! has a total edit count tool (~soxred93/pcount) but I don't think that can count just minor edits. :\ —GFOLEY FOUR— 22:18, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

my user rights
I would like to know if I am the fastest person to gain reviewer (and rollback) rights on the Wikipedia (other that Crazymonkey1123 public which is my other account) because I got reviewer in 20 days and rollback in 22. Thanks, Crazymonkey1123 (Jacob) (Shout!) 20:49, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- I sincerely doubt that you are the "fastest" reviewer/rollbacker. Perhaps you should be doing something constructive, instead of wondering about silly records. —GFOLEY FOUR— 20:52, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Question
If a user makes a good reversion and then a bad reversion can I rollback it? WayneSlam 21:14, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- Well, if the first revision is okay, and the next revision looks like vandalism, you should use the "Undo" tool. This way the first good edit(s) is/are still saved. Using rollback would wipe out all of their edits—good or not. —GFOLEY FOUR— 21:17, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- Okay. I'll start doing it. Also could I rollback spam? WayneSlam 21:25, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- I'm going to let you decide on this. Go to WP:VANDTYPES and WP:VAND#NOT and look carefully for spamming. You'll be surprised. —GFOLEY FOUR— 21:46, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
