Hello, Geoff3Cae!

It was really helpful of you to upload File:Ilesha Palm.jpg. However, in order to keep and use new images, they need to have a license.

If you can edit the description page and add the appropriate license, that would be great. If you're not sure how or need help, please ask at the media copyright questions page and we'll be happy to assist you.

Cammell Laird

[edit]

Thankyou for your revision of Cammell Laird. Is there a particular reason why you italicised the Template:Ship derivatives (Template:HMS, Template:MV, Template:SS etc.)? These templates automatically italicise a ship name, and by convention do not italicise the ship's initials (HMS, MV, SS etc.). Placing a whole template in italics therefore seems to be (a) superfluous and (b) defeating the object.

Best wishes, Motacilla (talk) 00:13, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Arctic convoys

[edit]

Hello Geoff
I notice you have added a table of ships to a number of the articles on the Arctic convoys of World War II. These tables look like they have been copied and pasted from pages on Arnold Hague's convoyweb site, and as such would be copyright violations. Can I suggest that you re-edit them to make them more original (split them up between merchant and warships, change the layout, add detail from other sources, for example), otherwise they could end up being deleted. I've done a couple (here, and here) but I expect you will have a better idea which pages you have done. Regards, Xyl 54 (talk) 21:40, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
PS: Also, it isn't a good idea to put references in a section heading (see MOS:HEAD) or add a link for a ship that doesn't go to an article on it (WP:EGG); I trust you will find this advice useful. Xyl 54 (talk) 21:41, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of St Helens R.F.C. players, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page George Mann. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hello, Geoff3Cae. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Template:Coventry Bears squad".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Category organisation

[edit]

Please do not organise categories alphabetically, it isn't as useful as you might think! It's standard to categorise footballers chronologically (i.e. by the football clubs they played for, in order). GiantSnowman 11:29, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Again, please stop this. I will be raising your conduct at WT:FOOTBALL. Please discuss there. GiantSnowman 11:46, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please see WP:BRD; you made an edit, have been reverted, so now need to discuss. GiantSnowman 11:51, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:CATORDER - "Eponymous categories should appear first. Beyond that, the order in which categories are placed on a page is not governed by any single rule (for example, it does not need to be alphabetical, although partially alphabetical ordering can sometimes be helpful). Normally the most essential, significant categories appear first." GiantSnowman 13:24, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Rather than create a new section, I'll add here - we have a manual of style (specifically MOS:CATORDER) that you should read. The consensus at WP:FOOTY is that we categorise chronologically, not alphabetically. Could you not change this in future? As GiantSnowman has mentioned a few times now, you do know about this MOS. Please don't contravene it. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:43, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Lee Vilenski: he is still at it. Continuing to edit against MOS and without responding to concerns raised by multiple editors? This is clear WP:CIR. GiantSnowman 15:26, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Lee Vilenski:. @GiantSnowman:, I'm afraid this user continues with this behaviour, despite your previous warnings. I have had to make numerous reverts recently, but haven't scratched the surface of the number of breaches this user has made of the MOS. Does this need to be taken further? Kind regards, MunsterFan2011 (talk) 13:28, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say (at least for clarity's sake) to take to WP:ANI. I'd rather not be giving out blocks for this, but without communication, there isn't much we can do. Maybe a topic ban for category manipulation is in order? I'd like further input from administrators. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:12, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
agree that wider views at ANI would be prudent. GiantSnowman 18:07, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both for your replies, I have, as you suggested, raised this matter on WP:ANI. Kind regards, MunsterFan2011 (talk) 16:27, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
