Women in Green's October 2024 edit-a-thon
Hello Ganesha811:
WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!
Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
We hope to see you there!

Question from Shafaq Farooqi (14:03, 26 September 2024)
Hi, I have properly added all sources. What else can I do to get my Wikipedia profile approved? --Shafaq Farooqi (talk) 14:03, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hello! I presume you're referring to the draft article you started? I should caution you that writing an article about yourself is strongly discouraged by Wikipedia's rules. If you have any connection with Fasih Ur Rehman, you need to disclose that. —Ganesha811 (talk) 15:11, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- I don't have any connection with Fasih Ur Rehman. I'm a professional content writer that's why just giving my services. Please let me know how can I get this article approved. Shafaq Farooqi (talk) 14:09, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- If you are being WP:PAID for your editing, that is permitted, but you must disclose that on your talk page and follow the guidelines. Please let me know if you have any questions about how the process works. —Ganesha811 (talk) 16:36, 30 September 2024 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – October 2024
News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2024).
- Administrator elections are a proposed new process for selecting administrators, offering an alternative to requests for adminship (RfA). The first trial election will take place in October 2024, with candidate sign-up from October 8 to 14, a discussion phase from October 22 to 24, and SecurePoll voting from October 25 to 31. For questions or to help out, please visit the talk page at Wikipedia talk:Administrator elections.
- Following a discussion, the speedy deletion reason "File pages without a corresponding file" has been moved from criterion G8 to F2. This does not change what can be speedily deleted.
- A request for comment is open to discuss whether there is a consensus to have an administrator recall process.
- The arbitration case Historical elections has been closed.
- An arbitration case regarding Backlash to diversity and inclusion has been opened.
- Editors are invited to nominate themselves to serve on the 2024 Arbitration Committee Electoral Commission until 23:59 October 8, 2024 (UTC).
- If you are interested in stopping spammers, please put MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist and MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist on your watchlist, and help out when you can.
SOU 610 photo
The reason why I deleted our conversation about that No. 610 postcard photo was because I assumed we would simply delete our comments immediately after making them, and then we would view them via history.
But I could not find any copyright claims about this photo anywhere. All I did was purchase a copy of that postcard on eBay and scanned both sides of it to upload it here. This back is all the info I could find about this photo at all. Someone who likes train writing (talk) 05:00, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- Generally it's best to leave comments in place - that way the history is more easily visible to anyone who comes across the discussion / talk page later. Could you restore them on the GA page? Thanks. Based on what you said and my own digging I think you are correct that it was published without copyright notice and is thus fine. —Ganesha811 (talk) 05:04, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- Very well. I’ll take your word for it. Also, I noticed you made multiple minor tweaks to the page. I don’t mind any of those at all, but since you split some of the sentences, let me ask this; aren’t Wikipedia pages encouraged to have all of their sentences (except for those at the short description at the top) to end with a citation, or do you think that’s unnecessary? Someone who likes train writing (talk) 05:17, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- No, it's not required. A citation might follow a single sentence, or it might follow a short run of sentences or come at the end of a paragraph (see WP:CITEFOOT. There's no strict standard as long as all the information is verifiable and it's clear which sources are associated with which parts of the text. —Ganesha811 (talk) 11:26, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

- Thank you so much for approving the page for a GA grade! This is a very historically-relevant locomotive that I realized deserved a page with an explanation more detailed than what it previously had. Someone who likes train writing (talk) 20:18, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Just want some advice
Hello, I have started a review on Boyd Exell and I was disappointed to learn that the original photo has a large watermark on it. I (or someone else) will need to verify the licenses and check if they are suitable or not on Wikipedia. I am worried about the copyright logo in the image.
I think free images should not be watermarked and I am not 100 percent certain about the correct license of the photo. I also noticed the editor cropped the image, now the watermark is gone in the article itself. Thanks. Alexeyevitch(talk) 11:11, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- I initially wanted to nominate it for deletion but needed some advice about this image because of the (c) logo, and the photographer categorizes it as CC BY-SA 2.0. Alexeyevitch(talk) 11:16, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- I'm generally hesitant to give advice on image copyright - it's a complex area. I recommend going to the Commons Help Desk (Commons:Help desk) and asking there for advice. —Ganesha811 (talk) 05:54, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- Okay. I will ask there if similar uncertainty problems arise. Alexeyevitch(talk) 06:12, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

becoming an administrator of an article
I need to make modifications to my company's page but as the administrator. The original administrator is no longer with our company and their input would be considered an IP violation. How do I go about this? Thank you. Rochellepaulet (talk) 17:27, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- Wikipedia articles are not owned by the subject/company they are about. There is no such thing as the "administrator of an article". Wikipedia articles are open to every editor, with one notable exception - editors with a COI, like you, are strongly discouraged from editing the page directly per our policies. You should instead make suggestions on the talk page. If you have questions about how this works, I encourage you to read the plain and simple COI guide here. You can also ask me. —Ganesha811 (talk) 17:49, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- I understand that. How do I prevent someone who is under court order to cease and desist with impacting any marketability of the products listed here? I've read the COI but it doesn't refer to legal issues. RatQueen (talk) 17:53, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- As well, the edits I made were benign - adding a new product. RatQueen (talk) 17:55, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- I also provided a citation as requested. RatQueen (talk) 17:57, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- Wikipedia can't enforce court orders - you'd have to ask the court to step in. Your edits were mostly benign, but had a promotional tone and unencyclopedic language. This is the problem with COI edits - marketing-speak just can't help being non-neutral and unencyclopedic. You can use the WP:Edit request wizard to make requests for changes on the talk page, which other editors without a COI will then review. —Ganesha811 (talk) 18:58, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- Understood. Thanks for the clarity there. As for our message this is regulated by the EPA. We are the only product of this nature on the market. As well we have follow the speak as required by the EPA as an exempt product (FIFRA 25(b)). These are the words they have approved. RatQueen (talk) 22:24, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- BTW I appreciate your help and clarifications through all of this. This is the first time I've published for a public, yet EPA regulated organization. RatQueen (talk) 22:25, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- No problem, I'm happy to help. It's fine for you guys to use the EPA's approved wording in your own marketing, but Wikipedia is not a marketing tool. It's an encyclopedia and its articles are written in its own words, without copying from anywhere else. —Ganesha811 (talk) 22:37, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

Dan Hennessey
Hi can you please put the Dan Hennessey page back up! It has been officially confirmed that he has died at the age 82 on November 13, 2024 and was the voice of BraveHeart Lion in the Care Bears and Chief Quimby in Inspector Gadget. https://www.tmz.com/2024/11/19/cartoon-voice-actor-dan-hennessey-dead/ https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/dan-hennessey-dies-voice-actor-for-care-bears-braveheart-lion-inspector-gadget-s-chief-quimby-x-men-tv-series-director-was-82/ar-AA1upfsH https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-14103791/dan-hennessey-dead-82-cartoon-voice-actor.html 45.3.31.251 (talk) 14:43, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- If you believe that recent coverage has established Hennessey's notability, then you or anyone else are welcome to recreate the page. However, please note that the Daily Mail and TMZ are not generally considered reliable on Wikipedia. In addition, if the page is substantially unchanged from its prior version, it may be eligible for speedy deletion. Repeated recreations and deletions might result in the page eventually being salted, but that's not too common. —Ganesha811 (talk) 14:52, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
Maria Trubnikova scheduled for TFA
This is to let you know that the above article has been scheduled as today's featured article for January 2025. Please check that the article needs no amendments. Feel free to amend the draft blurb, which can be found at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/January 2025, or to make comments on other matters concerning the scheduling of this article at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/January 2025. Please keep an eye on that page, as notifications of copy edits to or queries about the draft blurb may be left there by user:JennyOz, who assists the coordinators by reviewing the blurbs, or by others. I also suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from two days before it appears on the Main Page. Thanks, and congratulations on your work! SchroCat (talk) 11:14, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- Great news! I may make some tweaks to the blurb. Thanks for what you guys do. —Ganesha811 (talk) 12:47, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
Henry C. Berghoff
Hi. I think the review on Henry C. Berghoff has gone awry (and idle). I'm hopeful that failing it will not discourage the user from trying again but I think the current issue that will need to be resolved is to include page numbers the content is cited on and maybe omitting some images, I think these issues could be progressively resolved but it appears the user is busy at the moment. I'm quite unsure what to do now, and please offer direction on how I might proceed from here Alexeyevitch(talk) 22:25, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- If you think those are the only issues standing between the article and GA, you have the option of just fixing them yourself and passing the article. If you don't have the time for that, or if there are other outstanding issues, I would recommend closing the review as unsuccessful. It's important for nominators to be available to fix issues in a relatively prompt manner. —Ganesha811 (talk) 22:51, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes. Maybe the user is very busy or on a vacation of some sort. I am making the unfortunate decision to close it as unsuccessful but I'm hopeful it will not discourage the user to try when they have some time available. I would of done most of the work myself but the article relies on paid online sources or book sources that I don't have access to. Alexeyevitch(talk) 23:16, 22 November 2024 (UTC)

Droga
Hi, I see you undid some changes on David Droga's page. I'd like to better understand why, please.
First, you changed his Occupation from CEO to Advertising. He is the CEO of a company that does advertising but also digital products, commerce and customer service. So CEO is more accurate than Advertising (even though this was his past occupation).
Second, you removed all recognition because they are "not notable". These are awards that he won personally that are relevant to his career and industry. What is the standard for "notable"?
Thanks for your help! 154.27.17.215 (talk) 02:01, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
