Maya Angelou
Hi Christine, I uploaded the image from Flickr. The image there had an open license and so I was able to directly upload it to the Commons and from there to Maya's page. I assume that means it's free as both Flickr and the Commons have labelled it so. The profile pic that's up at the minute, with the sunglasses. seems less good to me that the previous shot of her at the podium. The sunglasses obscure her lovely clear face. Could we revert it? I hope that helps. Have a good weekend. It's Royal Wedding Week, here in Britain. Best wishes Span (talk) 23:42, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- Span, do you happen to know when the Flickr picture was taken? I'm not sure that it would fly during a review; I've learned that just because Flickr says it's free, that's not always the case. But we'll see what happens. Sometimes the image rules seem arbitrary to me. Since we're keeping it, I wonder if we should move it. If it's post-Caged Bird, maybe we can move it further down the article, which of course would affect the placement of the other images currently there. It looks like it may be from the 70s, which would put it in "Later career"; then we'd have to move the Inauguration to the "Angelou's works" section. I think that this demonstrates that this article needs more images; that's something that definitely needs work.
- My problem with the previous infobox image is that it makes her look frail, which she definitely is now that she's in her eighties, but it's not at all flattering. I also think that the podium and the distance away from the camera obscures her appearance more than the sunglasses do in the current image. But that's just my opinion, and definitely something we can talk about. Happy wedding week! Is anyone working in Britain this week? ;) Christine (talk) 12:07, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
I have no attachment to the image. It doesn't have much detail on the image itself. I'll leave image placement to you as you are much more up on the article history. There's no more free images on the Commons or Flickr so I'm not sure where we get'd more. There are two bank holidays at the side of either weekend in UK so most people have taken the middle bit off for a ten day holiday. We can't move for flags. There seems a wave of bickering and bad tempered sourness sweeping Wikipedia at the mo. Maybe it's my perception. Best wishes 20:22, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
History of Sesame Street
Dear Christine,
I was happy to see for a week or two that my edited version of my contribution to the history of Sesame Street as below, survived but then apparently was edited out by you on April 23, as it shows in the discussions I am finally beginning to learn to follow.
My motivation was to add some of the behind the scenes, little known facts which I was privy to as project officer for the CTW for Doc Howe. And, as below, I saw some reference to my comments being identified as "vandalism." I looked up the definition on Wikipedia and certainly what I added and my intention does not fit that definition.
Revision as of 18:23, 1 April 2011 (edit) Figureskatingfan (talk | contribs) m (Reverted 1 edit by Halclyon (talk) identified as vandalism to last revision by 207.126.97.2. (TW))"
I'm puzzled why you or whomever deleted my contribution -- as a person that was physically present during these events and also the one who testified before Congress for the research funding for CTW -- would be thought of as vandalistic or why you would not wish for these additions to be part of the history. Please explain. Can you also send your response back to me at my regular email: halclyon@yahoo.com as I am traveling back to the US from Germany where I teach and have better access to my email than to this site?
Thanks,
Hal

"Harold (Doc) Howe II, the US Commissioner of Education, and a friend of Morrisett, provided the first $4 million after brain-storming with his staff how to best reach inner city children via the TV antennas on their roofs with excellent pre-school TV programming which would have behind it, careful formative and summative research on best practices. Since no funds were earmarked for this, Howe decided to use research funds for the initial CTW start-up grant and that began the practice of each segment of Sesame Street being the result of carefully conducted R&D. One of his assistants, Harold C. Lyon, wrote his doctoral dissertation on integrating the affective with the cognitive.[1] Howe appointed Lyon the U.S. Office of Education's project officer for Sesame Street and the Electric Company where he met with the CTW Advisory Board using his influence to integrate the affective with the cognitive content of Sesame Streets program content for more indelible learning." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.217.4.107 (talk) 08:04, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Angelou-travelingshoes.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Angelou-travelingshoes.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 21:05, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi Figureskatingfan. I noticed that you have File:Sesame Street logo.svg displayed on your userpage. It appears that that is a non-free file, and hence, display on userpages would not be allowed (see WP:NFCC). You might want to remove the image from display there, or choose another one which is free. Thanks! --Dirk Beetstra T C 15:14, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Sesame Street characters response
I got your message. When it comes to Shivers the Penguin, the only source I know of him is the Muppet Wikia. Rtkat3 (User talk:Rtkat3) 10:26, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
- I understand. There's been a sort of policy that's developed about what to include in the Sesame Street lists. [1] Muppet Wiki isn't a reliable source. If you'd like to include this (or any) other character, I recommend that you go look for it on YouTube or at Sesame Street.org, which are appropriate sources when all others have been exhausted. Hep C list
Hey Christine, I just scheduled the Hep C FL for WP:TFL for 25 July. Since it hasn't been fully re-reviewed, I suggest you go over it with a fine-toothed comb, and possibly ask a few other FL contributors to give it a look over before it hits main page. Hopefully you can also accentuate the fact that it's an "anniversary" main page appearance, making it relevant and increasing its impact. My best to you. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:51, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- Hey. No problems. We do need to make sure the list is given a couple of once-overs, I've asked a couple of my esteemed colleagues who are keen to show me where I go wrong on a moment-by-moment basis so with luck and and bit of elbow grease we'll make a really good job of it. I haven't studied the list in detail but since we're listing it to coincide with the World Hep C day, it may be worth working a little on the lead/blurb to ensure that's obvious and to encourage others to read it etc (that's what I mean by "making it relevant and increasing its impact", it wasn't clear, so sorry for that, hopefully it is now!). The Rambling Man (talk) 19:27, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- Hey, all is good in the world, at least this part of it. And we're on the same page, which is even better. I appreciate the input of your cabal. I agree that the lead needs a little work, at least so that it mentions World Hep Day; I'll do some additional research in the next couple of weeks to get it up to snuff! GOCE drive invitation
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors
The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting. This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated. We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". |

Main page appearance
Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of this list know that it will be appearing as the main page featured list on July 25, 2011. You can view the TFL blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured list/July 25, 2011. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured list directors The Rambling Man (talk · contribs), Dabomb87 (talk · contribs) or Giants2008 (talk · contribs), or at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured list/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! The infectious disease hepatitis C is caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV), which affects the liver (location pictured) and is transmitted by blood-to-blood contact. Some of the people diagnosed with the disease have made this known to help raise awareness about hepatitis C and to encourage more people to get tested for the disease. Although HCV was not discovered until April 1989, an estimated 170 million people worldwide are infected by the virus. It is the leading cause of liver transplant in the United States; 8,000–10,000 people die each year in the US from the disease. No vaccine is available at this time. The symptoms of infection can be medically managed when the disease is diagnosed early, and a proportion of patients can be cleared of the virus by a course of anti-viral medicines. The symptoms of HCV infection, especially in its early stages, can be mild enough to conceal the fact of the disease; thus, some people do not seek treatment. As Live Aid founder Bob Geldof states, "Stigma, shame and fear can suffocate awareness. These barriers prevent people from getting tested, receiving treatment, and clearing themselves of this disease". The World Health Assembly has designated 28 July as World Hepatitis Day, in order to raise awareness and understanding of HCV, as well as hepatitis B.

- Hello again! We've run into a bit of a controversy on the wording of a particular piece of the article. An editor wants the article to state that Blissymbols is a full language. Another editor feels that this is not the scholarly consensus, and that the AAC article shouldn't say whether Bliss is a full language or not. I know AAC is not your primary focus, but would you be willing to comment at Talk:Augmentative_and_alternative_communication#Suggested_wording:_straw_poll? DYK for All God's Children Need Traveling Shoes
On 25 July 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article All God's Children Need Traveling Shoes, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that All God's Children Need Traveling Shoes is author Maya Angelou's recounting of her years spent in Accra, Ghana, in the early 1960s? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. RE: Blue's Clues
I did the six season thing because on OVGuide.com, it has six seasons of Blue's Clues listed. The last official episode of Blue's Clues to air did air in the sixth season according to that website. Same thing on the Blue's Clues Wiki (bluesclues.wikia.com) and TV.com. I just believed in those sources rather than the Wikipedia article; it's fine if you have changed the seasons back to ten. Also, I will try to add references to the Characters section and the List of characters article, but haven't really added much references to articles in a while, so I have basically forgotten how. You could (or you could ask somebody to) rewrite the section and add references based on your research. Oh, and even though the six season thing wasn't caused by a Joe vs. Steve thing, I prefer Steve. --Weemer (talk) 13:25, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- Wow, how weird is that. I mean, you're right about OVGuide.com and BC's Wiki, but TV.com says it was on for seven seasons. The Wiki has the seasons listed strangely; BC Wiki has season 3 lasting for two years. I don't get why; convention in the U.S. (and this is a U.S. show) has seasons lasting one year at the most. I re-watched the Ten Years documentary, which says nothing about "seasons". Like I said very weird. The solution is to remove the seasons listing from the infobox and keep the 1996-2006 info. I recommend that you teach yourself about how to add references by reading WP:REF. I can help like I helped others in the past, though. If you do the actual research and provide the sources, I can add them to the article and do the formatting for you. Just make sure that the sources are reliable. For now, I'll remove the Characters section you wrote and put it on the article's talk page. I recommend that it remain there until we get adequate sources. Full stripping unsourced articles
Hi Christine, I'd value your thoughts on this issue. I understand that policy supports taking out unverified material from articles. WP:V "Policy requires that all quotations and anything challenged or likely to be challenged be attributed in the form of an inline citation that directly supports the material." What if an editor decides to challenge everything in a non-BLP article that doesn't have sourcing (which makes up the majority of articles, I imagine). What is to stop them from stripping back all content from hundreds of articles, claiming lack of citations? This is not how it works in practice, it seems - we adds cn tags, section tags etc unless material is glaringly nonsense or garbled. Most of the more minor folk characters and figures of myth have poorly sourced, tagged articles that need work, but could, essentially, have their content deleted. Your thoughts much appreciated. Thanks. Span (talk) 03:26, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Re:Sesame Street
The issue is about free content versus non-free content. The image of Raposo is a non-free one, and non-free images may only be used in very strict circumstances; as I mentioned in the edit summary, the usage did not meet criteria 10c (there was no rationale on the image page) and 8 (what he looked like is not important). The image of Henson is a free one, and so you can use that as you wish. J Milburn (talk) 22:29, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
Sesame Street in Britain
Thanks for the message, enquire about this page. I can confirm, I did not cut-and-pasted the information, around the five points under the "BBC" section. I did in fact rewrite the 5 points into 5 highlighted points, and the 5 points do go into some details. I could upload a copy of this actual articular to prove this? I did rewrite, the best I can do at the moment a good amount of sourced information I pick up. There is some more work to do, I know some Ref are missing form the page. I take it with the REF to the times pages I will have to do the following: eg <> The times Monday, April 08, 1974 P45.Journalist name. <> I be honset its that bit which does confuse me abit when I read the pages.
There is at least one newspaper FREE online, Im not sure of the direct links can be done, but if I told how to view it would that help? When it comes to the The Guardian, There is a Website in which you have to pay to view but there have special code for anyone it seems to be able to view the site for free.(I don't understand it either) this would allow yourself to be able to view the ref in point.
I shall try and improve the page but as its only just be created in the last 24 hours im hoping to get it fully sorted over the next couple of days. Im still not sure if that page you suggested it prefect spot. I also hope to found more details about 8 month heated debate over this programme in the UK. I shall try and help you in anyway with the main SS page. User:Crazyseiko (talk) Still learning this part : P
- C, Thank for moving the page, Im in the process tidying up the page, I just have to get the ref and source correct. http://up.metropol247.co.uk/barcode/1970%20BBC%20response.jpg Here is the bit about 5 point reply, I hope it does prove I did not just copy and paste and I did rewrite it somehow.
- C, hi I was just wondering how I can input more details about "report of course there is No online version since its over 40 years old. I have found paper copy and newspaper version. Im still trying to get proper Crit sourse in the ref. User:Crazyseiko (talk)
- You can only provide the information that you have. If you're using an off-line source, you'd treat it the same, but without the URL, of course. I think it's often impossible to fulfill the requirements of depth without off-line sources. For Sesame Street, you have to. If you look at any of the SS articles that I created/re-wrote, you'll see that most of my sources are from books. Most of the newer books can be accessed through Amazon or Google Books, but only certain segments. Here's the full template for news [3]; just fill in all the information you have with the article. Christine (talk) 17:15, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
Sesame Street name origin
In looking at the FAC, I thought there might be some early advertisement in collective works that might be public domain (material published between 1923 and 1977 and without a copyright notice). See Commons:Template:PD-US-no notice. Anyway, I have a subscription to newspaperarchive.com, which has (they claim) well over a billion newspaper pages available in their database. In any event, it beats Google News archive by orders of magnitude. So I did a search for Sesame Street starting in 1969, and in one of the early articles, they describe the origin of the show's name. I think this is essential information to have, if not in the history subsection of the article at FAC, then at least in the main article on the show's history. Do you have this information anywhere? If not, would you like a copy of the article (in PDF)?--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:39, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
- Hey, F. The origin of the show's title is well documented in several sources. And yes, there is information about it in History of Sesame Street, in the "Development" section. Thanks for doing a search for images. What a great resource to have. I'd bet that the amount of articles written about The Show during this period was overwhelming. The great thing about the main sources used for its WP articles is that they summarize all that data. As a matter of fact, my inspiration for the history article was Michael Davis' marvelous book, Street Gang (book), which came out in 2008. I've had some interaction with Davis, and I expressed my appreciation to him. I'm not sure that article (and by extension, this one) would be possible without it. That being said, I'm fairly certain that all those articles won't add any new information. Good luck with the image search, though. Christine (talk) 01:17, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, I see it now. The explanation in the newspaper article is more illuminating. I'll add it in when I get time. Meanwhile, unfortunately, I didn't find any images to use. I don't even know that Sesame Street advertised, to it in turn know if there's anything to look for. There's also a reverse can't see the forest for the trees issue at play: 18,000 results between 1969 and 1975 alone, mostly because of television listings.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:10, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

If you would like to copyedit I would not mind. I be honest it could do with a clean up, I can give some other additions links for the ref if you wish:
I should point out that one section is still not finished: Independent Television Authority Report, at this rate it will take a will, I cant found actually copy of the report, just a newspaper spread about it. User:Crazyseiko (talk)
- hi I just wish to ask if you have finished the copyedit? cheers User:Crazyseiko (talk)
- hi, thanks for the reply, I was planning to slot in ( I hope ) add in more details about the report on sesame street, I just didn't want to mix up to start happening cheers User:Crazyseiko (talk)

- Ah, I see. Well, not really, since I'm not all that technically-inclined. Will the bug be fixed soon? In the meantime, I guess I'll turn off WikEd. Christine (talk) 17:46, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi
I have looked and there is no rules as far as I can see that Templates have to be blue in colour. I have also notice that there other examples in use around wiki. The reason as to "Why?!!" is simple down to the fact to give it a bit more colour but more importunately to highlight it a bit more to users reading pages, as some people can just over look dull grey boxes Especial if set to "close" I also used a colour linked to Sesame street Green. Of course I don't mind having a discussion about it on its discussion page Crazyseiko (talk)
I do like that! I mist that Green one, good job; I forgot to reply to message from earlier in the week, just to say: you are wrong on both counts :P but makes it worse as well it mean the Education broad has failed me big time, Maybe I should have watch more Sesame street :P Crazyseiko (talk)
- Ha ha I like it. There are things you can take for that, you know. ;) You might want to take a class, for example, one that focuses on writing. In the meantime, I'm sure that folks here would be more than willing to copyedit your contributions if you ask. One of the things I love about WP is that is helps me learn new stuff and improve my writing skills, and all for free! Christine (talk) 21:56, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
Fixing
I would have come back to fix it later this afternoon :0) Span (talk) 15:32, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
- Honey sweetie really, I wasn't bitching about you at all! It was the other guy. It was easy enough to do myself anyway because I'm old and I forget about stuff if I don't do it when it comes up. You gave some good education, though, which some people need. One of my pet peeves about WP is the tendency for some reviewers and editors to direct the main editor of an article to do something when it would just be simpler and faster to do it themselves. When they do that, it's just about making the main editor jump through hoops, and not about serious improvement of articles. Plus, I was cranky this morning because I had to go home and get my phone that I had forgotten there. Talk about wasting my time! ;) Christine (talk) 16:58, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

- Ouch! You've used a template to send a message to an experienced editor. Please review Wikipedia:Don't template the regulars or maybe listen to a little advice. Sesame Street co-productions and lists
Hi Christine,
Thank you for contacting me on this issue! I can see that you've been doing a lot of great work on Wikipedia; not a lot of people have that many stars at the top of their userpage. Your message on my talk page appears to make two suggestions about how to further the project: 1) to delete List of Sesame Street international co-production characters and 2) to move Sesame Street international co-productions back to International co-productions of Sesame Street. If I understand your message correctly, you agree that these two articles (if both were continue to exist) should have titles that are consistent with each other. Please correct me if I am wrong about your opinion on this subject. I do believe List of Sesame Street international co-production characters to be a notable topic worthy of a Wikipedia article; there are plenty of sources that could be added to the article, as is demonstrated by a few simple Google searches. All of the other lists of Sesame Street characters (as well as the majority of other lists of characters on Wikipedia) follow the "List of x characters" format. Two of Wikipedia's criteria for deciding on article titles are consistency and conciseness. The only way for all of these articles to be consistent with each other and with other similar articles is to employ the titles List of Sesame Street international co-production characters and Sesame Street international co-productions. These are also more concise titles than List of characters in international co-productions of Sesame Street and International co-productions of Sesame Street, thereby simultaneously fulfilling both the consistency and the conciseness criteria. The phrase "Sesame Street international co-productions" also appears in the literature on the subject, which a search on Google Scholar shows. Please contact me again if I have been unsuccessful in convincing you on either of these points. I know that you are dedicated to improving the Sesame Street articles on Wikipedia, so I want to make sure we're on the same page.
Neelix (talk) 16:17, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response, Neelix, and for your encouragement. I understand your reasoning, which I admit makes sense. I get why consistency across similar articles is important, so I'm fine with the change. I still believe that the list in question should be deleted, but I don't care enough to insist upon it. I don't have the time or desire to improve it, mostly because I have a myriad of other SS and Muppet articles that I believe are more important. Of course, you might have succeeded in putting a bee in my bonnet, now that you've brought it up, especially since it's my intention to eventually bring the co-productions article to FAC. ;) Christine (talk) 17:49, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
- I would love to see that article get up to featured status as well! Have you considered expanding it to become a franchise article like, for example, Law & Order (franchise), CSI (franchise), and Highlander (franchise)? At the moment, the Sesame Street articles are without an overarching parent article. Sesame Street is currently standing in for such an article, but an article about the American television series should not be the parent article for all the other series just as Law & Order is not the parent article in that group of articles. I can see an argument for the international co-productions having a parent article (Sesame Street international co-productions) that does not include the American series, but in that case, there should still be a parent article that deals with all of the series (ie. a franchise article). On a separate note, one way to make List of Sesame Street international co-production characters into a viable article would be to move it to List of Sesame Street international co-productions or possibly to List of Sesame Street television series (if Sesame Street international co-productions is expanded to Sesame Street (franchise)). That way, the article would list out the characters in addition to other information about each of the series. Neelix (talk) 19:52, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Ugh, that's so complicated, it makes my head ache. I'll tell you right now that I'm opposed to adding a list to the co-productions article. There just aren't the sources to warrant it, and I've fought hard against adding lists to it. Your idea about "franchising" the SS article is interesting; my initial reaction is that Sesame Street is a very different entity than the other shows you've mentioned. The co-productions are meant to be separate from the original show, which different creators and producers, with Sesame Workshop taking on an advisory role only. The literature doesn't identify Sesame Street in this way, kind of like Electric Company is in comparison to SS. IOW, I don't think that the sources warrant the same kind of distinction. Does that makes any sense at all? Christine (talk) 21:06, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
