David Ackerman

Epic,

I’m not sure how to reach you. I have proof of all I stated about David Ackerman. I am not sure why you are unable to find it. I am happy to send it to you; including his final will and testament. Our family kept impeccable records, even back to the 1600’s, as they had befriended a known record keeper named Dirck Storm.

Thank you, The Farris Family

@Meranda004: If you are talking about International Mercantile Marine Company Building, I do not doubt that what you are saying is true. I was able to find other sources that verified your addition. However, the text had to be removed because it was a copyright violation from another website. Because Wikipedia can only accept freely licensed information, this could not be included in the article unless the website's information contains a copyright license compatible with Wikipedia. The other issue was that the article is about the current structure at 1 Broadway; as such, the article is merely summarizing the history of the land, rather than being an extensive narrative. I hope this explanation makes sense, but if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Epicgenius (talk) 04:59, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Manhattan Interactive Map

Hi Epicgenius, I know you're the expert at this- I don't know when, but at some point, the red outline of Manhattan on its interactive map has disappeared. Would you please be able to repair it? Best, Castncoot (talk) 00:54, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

Castncoot, thanks for the heads-up. I already learned of the problem off-wiki, which has to do with the OpenStreetMap rendering malfunctioning on some parts of the border. In the meantime, AntiCompositeNumber has fixed the zoom level so at least it will focus on NYC for the time being. Epicgenius (talk) 01:08, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
Got it, thank you Epic. In the meantime, an additional fix may have been instituted since your note, as now when I click on the infobox, I do see the red outline of just Manhattan. The other borough articles appear to be completely unaffected by a similar glitch, for now. Castncoot (talk) 03:43, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

Northernmost point vs. northernmost neighborhood / North Riverdale vs. Wakefield

See my recent edit to the article for North Riverdale, Bronx, where I added a source that places the northernmost point of New York City on the campus of the College of Mount Saint Vincent in North Riverdale. Many maps show New York City at an angle to make the island of Manhattan appear to run north / south, which makes the northern border with Westchester County appear to run east / west and thus makes the northern tip of Wakefield, Bronx appear to be furthest north. In terms of northernmost points it's unequivocally in North Riverdale.

But how do you measure northernmost neighborhood? Is it based on the location of the northernmost point in the neighborhood or of the neighborhood's mid-point? Is North Riverdale a neighborhood on its own or is it a sub-neighborhood of Riverdale, Bronx (as the article for North Riverdale states in the lead)? I think that your edits are correct, but that there is still some ambiguity that can be addressed by addition of appropriate sources.

As always with anything New York City-related, I'd appreciate your thoughts. Alansohn (talk) 15:28, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Alansohn, thanks for the source. I was searching for that, but got sidetracked. Regarding the northernmost neighborhood, that is a good question. I had removed it initially because I was unsure, but then I decided to restore to the status quo, because I'm not sure how one would define the northernmost neighborhood. North Riverdale is pretty much a sub-neighborhood of Riverdale, but even that depends on boundaries. Also, as you said, a different "northernmost neighborhood" could be determined based on northernmost point or midpoint, and we would have to find sources that clarify that distinction. Epicgenius (talk) 15:57, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
I saw your changes and I added that source to the Wakefield article to back up the fact that the actual northernmost point is NOT in Wakefield. I was expecting to find a source that would discuss the controversy on Wakefield vs. North Riverdale (or Riverdale), and I found this blog post, which addresses the issue, but it's a blog post. I will keep on searching and thinking of how this matter could be settled, but having the source from The New York Times in both articles should at least offer a starting point to deal with the topic. Thanks as always for the response. Alansohn (talk) 16:15, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Green Line (New York)

Your edit to Green Line (New York) was reverted by the same IP editor that added the extra lines in the first place. I have no personal knowledge of the train lines around New York (green or otherwise), and the IRT lines at least have green signs, so I fixed DAB-style formatting but left the IRT lines in place. The IP editor has made similar additions to the articles for other-colored lines. I left a message on their talk page about DAB pages, but it may (possibly) be worth another message about naming of New York train lines. Leschnei (talk) 13:34, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

Leschnei, thanks for the message, I appreciate it. Usually subway services are not referred to by their color in New York, let alone their lines, but it may still be helpful for readers. I'll leave them a message telling them what's going on. Epicgenius (talk) 13:40, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

The article Betsy Head Park you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Betsy Head Park for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. DYK for 330 West 42nd Street

On 29 April 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 330 West 42nd Street, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that James H. McGraw Jr., who selected the blue-green facade panels for 330 West 42nd Street (pictured), was said to be "appalled" at the color of the building? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/330 West 42nd Street. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, 330 West 42nd Street), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

DYK for 400 Madison Avenue

On 30 April 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 400 Madison Avenue, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that upon its completion, 400 Madison Avenue in New York City was described as one of several buildings that comprised the "Grand Canyon of midtown business"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/400 Madison Avenue. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, 400 Madison Avenue), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. DYK nom

Trying my hand at this, thoughts? https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Template:Did_you_know_nominations/New_York_and_Long_Island_Coignet_Stone_Company_Building Thanks CaptJayRuffins (talk) 12:06, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

CaptJayRuffins, unfortunately neither of these hooks will work. The hooks have to be directly related to the article you are nominating, which in this case is New York and Long Island Coignet Stone Company Building. If the subject of the article was the Third Street Bridge, for instance, then "... that Third Street is one of nine bridges crossing the Gowanus canal, a superfund site ...? " would be appropriate. Same is applicable to the hook "... that calls for environmental cleanup resulted in the 2009 designation of the Gowanus Canal as a Superfund Site in New York City?". This would be appropriate for an article about the Gowanus Canal, which sadly is not eligible for DYK.
Since the building is a city designated landmark, I'm sure there are plenty of interesting information that can be added, so I'll take a look at that. Epicgenius (talk) 13:18, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
I have added some info. Epicgenius (talk) 14:45, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
I have also added some hooks. (Testing the new reply button.) Epicgenius (talk) 14:46, 28 April 2021 (UTC)

I remember when in high school I wrote a really good paper for AP English, and got it back with red markup completely covering it, with a B- grade at the top. After your edits, this article is now worthy of a DYK. Thanks for the edit, I'm going to take some pics, see if I can get good at something... Barnstar with detail for you...
