Ratings

[edit]

I have been re-rating articles for Wikipedia:WikiProject Fraternities and Sororities due to many being over-rated. I noticed that many of the articles you have rated are among these. Please follow this chart when rating. Your contributions are appreciated and I am glad you have joined the wikiproject. If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them on my talk page. Great job!

List of Puerto Rican fraternities and sororities is a page that has gone from nothing to SOMETHING great in a short time--because of you! Keep up the good edits! —ScouterSig 18:18, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, could you perhaps start a List of high school fraternities and sororities? I am unsure of any, except those I randomly run across, and don't know where to begin looking--I would begin at a page like that, but it doesn't exist! You seem to know a lot about them from your comments. —ScouterSig 22:37, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm having a hard time using the table (I'm just dumb), so here are some more I found: Sigma Alpha Rho (SAR), B'nai B'rith Youth Organization, Aleph Zadik Aleph, B'nai B'rith Girls, and NOM (from Nom). Also McClymonds High School mentions an "Akanake" group. (I found these through a google search.) —ScouterSig 21:07, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tribute to "the Marine"

I would like to pay a small tribute in this edition to Tony "the Marine". Editing since May 24, 2004, he has been one of our project's most active editors and has become one of Wikipedia's most recognized writers. He has authored over 400 articles, including 4 Featured Articles, 1 Featured List, 10 Good Articles, and 28 DYKs. His name has appeared in newspapers and magazines and has been mentioned by politicians and artists. He has brought Puerto Rico's history and its people to the web. He has shown the world that Puerto Ricans have done much more than just be gangsters and drug dealers. He has shown the world that we have contributed to history and the world just as much as any other group of people.

On September 29, 2007, Tony announced that we would not be writing for Wikipedia anymore. We, the members of this project, are sad that he will not be able to continue to spread the word of Hispanics' contributions here on the web, but I, for one, feel honored that he has entrusted us with the duty of continuing and improving his excellent work.

Tony, rest assured that your contributions, your wisdom, and the help you provided to all of us when we were new users will be remembered for generations. Que Dios te bendiga, Tony, y que tu recompensa sea grande en el Reino de los Cielos.

Viva Puerto Rico libre. —Agüeybaná 16:52, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FIRST INTERNATIONAL FRAT

[edit]

Per you post on the FIA talk page:

That may be true, but it's a difficult thing to prove. 1) You have to eliminate the possibility that every other american college fraternity did not have a chapter outside the borders of the United States. Including Canada. 2) There are other organizations that call themselves fraternities (though not in the college fraternity sense) that were international prior to this date. 3) Phi Iota Alpha has never made that claim. 2much 14:05, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page work

[edit]

ElJohnson, I am working on improving the Fraternities_and_sororities article; I think that the page would be best served moved to a page such as "North-American fraternities and sororities", with the current title becoming a new stub article on the word as a more general organization description--a fleshing out of the current first few sentences. What do you think? —ScouterSig 05:23, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mu Iota Alpha is up for deletion and I moved the Puerto Rico fraternity list to List of fraternities and sororities in Puerto Rico so that it falls in line with the two other international list article titles (Europe and Phillipines). Keep up the good work! —ScouterSig 18:44, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hey back

[edit]

I haven't been able to find any online info on Phi Kappa Alpha, or Phi Tau Alpha. I have heard anecdotally of FIA brothers meeting FTA brothers when visiting Cuba. But nothing more concrete than that. It's conceivable that what our concept of a fraternity is, was different for them. More of a social club. This may be why there is less documentation, and less of an attachment to a particular university. In the case of Cuba, I'm sure than mentality was discouraged as to not to get in trouble with the government.

I'll review the Phi Sigma Alpha page and see what I can do to improve it... 2much (talk) 22:17, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I came across this article while revising WP:PUR's assessed articles and the article seems quite complete, if we could find some references and do some format tweaks we could have a solid good article candidate in our hands, are you interested in pursuing this goal? - Caribbean~H.Q. 17:10, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will make a complete review and offer my sugesstion tommorow. - Caribbean~H.Q. 20:20, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The article needs some work with the structure, language and references, I will begin work with the structure and language can you help with the footnotes? - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:02, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have been considering fusing "Administrative body" and "Chapters" to create a new section, this is to avoid having two single paragraph sections because that is often a pain when the articles are taken to GAC, it should also allow for a good finish in the format, what do you think? - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:24, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The only thing really preventing this article from being able to reach GA is that we are lacking footnotes, I have browsed the web and found these: [1][2] [3] but I'm not sure how to place them, this list on the other hand may help us reference the chapters in PR, the webpages of the universities can be used and will most likely be accepted as third party sources, after the references are placed I can work with any language issues and have it ready for GAC in less than a day. - Caribbean~H.Q. 04:32, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Phi Sigma Alpha

[edit]

Wow! That is one great article. The basic problem with the article is that there many areas which lack citations.

Here is a list: 1. Origins 1898-1928 = second paragraph needs citations

2. The Sigma 1928-1934 = needs citations especially about the founding members

3. The union 1934 - 1939= First and third paragraphs need citations (maybe you can get them from the main article "Union Latino Americano")

4. The era of growth 1939 -1964 = First paragraph needs citation

5. The era of progress and adaptations 1964 - and Administrative body = all paragraphs need citations

Flags and records

Greetings, during the past months, there has been a lot of activity and active discussion surrounding articles within our scope. Of particular interest is one that took place in Flag of Puerto Rico, in which several project members exposed their points of view regarding the tones of our flag. Ultimately, research brought forth a severe loophole in the regulation employed by the Senate of Puerto Rico. Our flag doesn't have official tones! Attempting to prevent future conflicts, I presented a proposal in the project's talk page. The subsequent discussion served as an perfect example of consensus. Thanks to everyone for your participation. In other news, our friend Tony the Marine added another impressive achievement to his brilliant resume. On December 8, 2008, his DYK hook for Ivan Castro (soldier) broke the previous all-time record for more views, receiving 71,300 visits. Tony has also been actively cooperating with this Newsletter, the inclusion of a new "Did you Know?" section, was entirely his idea. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:34, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question reply - Baird's

[edit]

Hi. The most recent edition of Baird's I could find was the 20th edition published in 1991. I checked it out from our local library through an inter-library loan system. If you want to continue the discussion, I'll be replying on my talk page. --Lhakthong (talk) 19:44, 25 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Neither Phi Sigma Alpha nor Phi Iota Alpha are mentioned in the 1991 Baird's index. In fact as best as I can tell the Puerto Rican founded Social/Cultural Fraternities are *completely* ignored. As an illustration. The complete list of Fraternities at UPR-Rio Piedras (according to the 1991 Baird's): Professional - Phi Alpha Delta, Honors - Phi Alpha Theta, Service - Gamma Sigma Sigma, Recognition - Beta Beta Beta, Inactive - Kappa Epsilon. (Yes they missed Alpha Phi Omega as well.) UPR-Mayagüez only lists Alpha Phi Omega. I also can't find Phi Iota Alpha at RPI :( Naraht (talk) 00:30, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

By the time they did the 1991 version, Baird's had become very focused on the National GLOs in certain well defined groups. Baird's by that point was being wholy run by the National Interfraternity Conference (The historically white social greeks). You may want to take a look at the 1976 or even the 1967 version to see if they were better. I'm just not sure that Baird's will ever be published again, the information is much more accessible today. For example if you weren't in Sigma Alpha Epsilon in 1955 and you wanted to know where they had chapters and were they were founded, Baird's was pretty much your only choice. Today it takes 3 minutes on the WWW or even just their wikipedia page.Naraht (talk) 14:49, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, how is Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity viewed in Puerto Rico? Active chapters are at UPR-Rio Piedras, UPR-Mayagüez and IUPR-Metropolitan.
Thank you for the information, It is good to know that they are strong and getting support from the administration. There were chapters at PUCPR and Interamerican_University_of_Puerto_Rico-San Germán as well but they went inactive in the early 1980s.
Do you want to see the List of fraternities and sororities in Puerto Rico look similar to the List_of_fraternities_and_sororities_in_the_Philippines, I'll be happy to help.Naraht (talk) 15:35, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New Articles

[edit]

Hi all, I created/updated a few new articles and I was wondering I any of you could take a look at them;

Nice article. It needs inline citations, you know the <ref>[ '''citation''' ]</ref>. You can use the external links which you cited. Then, at the end of the article or after the "See also" section add a "Reference" section and post this {{reflist}}. Add this "stub" template at the end: {{Template:PuertoRico-bio-stub}}
Great list. After the "most important city in the west coast of Puerto Rico" add the inline citation of where you got this information and the "Reference" section.
Good stub! I made some minor fixes. Try to find out when he hit the bucket.
Excellent article. It could be expanded a little. I noticed that the image is going to be deleted. Try to get a PD one.

any help will be apriciated, thanks in advance El Johnson (talk) 03:17, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

O.K., I checked them out and have left my comments. Tony the Marine (talk) 03:13, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Phi Sigma Alpha

[edit]

I think we can try our luck at GAN by now. My only suggestions would be minor things, like being consistent with the country names.

  • For instance we have Hato Rey with a "PR" between the district's name and "Puerto Rico", I would remove that acronym. There is also an instance of "USA" in the first section, while "United States" is used in every other mention.
  • Is this paragraph sourced by one of the references: "The Phi Sigma Alpha Zone was organized by a board of directors of the Zone, the Militant chapter Alpha Boriquén of San Juan, and two university chapters, one in U.P.R. Río Piedras and another one in the C.A.A.M. of Mayagüez. Years later the militant chapters of Ponce and Mayagüez were reorganized"?
  • Other than that, maybe some of the images could be moved to the left so that white spaces don't appear between sections. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:09, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the flags because they may bring some inconvenience. The relevant Manual of Style states that icons should be avoided in the "general article prose". Some reviewers may take that too seriously. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:15, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:UnionLAmericana.jpg. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. List of Puerto Ricans

[edit]

You have quickly become one my favorite persons here, therefore I am not going to remove the names that you added to the list and let you do the proper fixes.

I noticed that you added Santos P. Amadeo, Charles Henry Juliá Barreras, both Senators and Baudilio Vega Berríos the Mayor. That is fine, but since last March 2008, we added the rule that all new additions must also cite and provide a reliable verifiable source that would proof the person's notability for inclusion. User:Raylast and I verified the notability of those already on the list prior March 2008. The rule even applies to me.

Now, I have a question. What makes Santos P. Amadeo and Charles Henry Juliá Barreras notable besides the fact that they are among the many who have served in the Senate of PR throughout the years? Did they accomplish something extraordinary or historical? The same thing goes for Baudilio Vega Berríos, what makes him different from any other mayor? If so, then add a brief account on the person's notability. In other words just because a person has served as a Senator or Mayor in itself does not make him notable.

Go ahead my friend and add the references and claim to notability otherwise somewhere along the line their names will be removed. I hope that you understand. Tony the Marine (talk) 03:30, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Opinion request

[edit]

When I first wrote the Flag of Puerto Rico article years ago, it was titled "The flags of Puerto Rico" and was intended to be just that, an article about the flags of Puerto Rico. However, with time someone (who made a mess with the edit history) came along and changed the title to the current one.

I am thinking of two options per consensus.

1. Leaving the current title, "spliting" the article, keeping only the story of the "Flag" and it's evolution and creating separate articles about the "municipal" and "political" flags and have them interwiklinked in the "See also" sections.

or ....

2. Changing the title back to "Flags of Puerto Rico", its original title and keeping the article as it is, which would be less troublesome.

or ....

3. Just leave it as it is.

Your thoughts will be highly appreciated. Tony the Marine (talk) 01:17, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Could you please add a some proper source info to the description page for this image. I doubt you photographed it yourself in 1906, so presumably you got it from a museum or archive somewhere. Please add as much information as possible about where the image came from, and if possible any information that may exist about the original author and such. Thanks. --Sherool (talk) 01:09, 5 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Tarzán (mascot)

[edit]

The article Tarzán (mascot) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No third party sourcing at all. No demonstration that this college mascot has significance outside the university.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Durova312 17:48, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Map in PR Campaign

[edit]

Not a bad suggestion on your part about the map. I agree that it doesn't reflect the era, I'll check into it, however if you or anyone that you know can come up with a map that reflects the Puerto Rico of 1898 and place the troop movements, that will be great. Tony the Marine (talk) 20:49, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I know that it took me forever, but what I did for the meantime is place the following notation in the infobox: (Note: This a current map of Puerto Rico which shows the routes taken by the American Forces. Some of the municipalities depicted did not exist at the time.). That should take care of it for now. What have you been up to lately? Tony the Marine (talk) 20:46, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Phi Iota Alpha reorganized and established a superior governing body called the Union Latino Americana, dividing the countries in Latin America into zones".

I recommend that you rephrase that sentence because it sounds as if the "the boundaries of the countries in Latin American (Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina, Chile etc.) were divided by the Union Latino Americana and it mat not make sense to the reader. I may be wrong, but I think that what you are trying to say is that the Union Latino Americana didvided their fraternities in Latin American into zones in accordance to the country which they represented. • How long will it take? It all depends on who may be interested in reviewing it. I had an article promoted to GA the day after I nominated it (extremely rare), however for the most part they take longer, sometimes even over a month. If you see that they are taking too long, leave a message in the GA nom. talk page and let them know. The process sometimes can become a little frustrating, just keep the faith. Thank you for uploading File:Aduana nueva.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Peripitus (Talk) 08:11, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Image

[edit]

Solution:

1. Remove this "tag" {{di-no license|date=20 November 2009}}

2. Replace with this "tag" :

Licensing {{self2|GFDL-with-disclaimers|cc-by-sa-2.5,2.0,1.0|migration=relicense}}\

Tony the Marine (talk) 23:05, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Nice! I checked out the site. I've used it as reference before. Don't forget to add the portal to the "See also" sections of your articles. {{portal|Puerto Rico|Flag_of_Puerto_Rico.svg}}

Ojo!

[edit]

You have to fix this image File:Casa aduana vieja.jpg, since you didn't take the picture.

1. Remove this:

Licensing {{self2|GFDL-with-disclaimers|cc-by-sa-2.5,2.0,1.0|migration=relicense}}\

2. Add this:

'Description: Aduana building in 1917 Source

  • The image is not subject to copyright laws, it is pre- 1925.
  • The image is a non-repeatable historic event that is associated with the U.S. Custom House in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico
  • Image is discussed in the article
  • Image cannot be conveyed in another form (either text or another image) since the image itself is discussed in the article
  • The commercial value of the photograph is not significantly reduced by its use on the article
  • The image is low resolution.

{{PD-art}}

Tony the Marine (talk) 02:23, 22 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Note

[edit]

I fixed a couple of mistakes in the image of the Custom House in Mayagüez, but you forgot to add the "Source" of the image, you know, were you found the image. You have to add it fast, otherwise it will be "tagged" unsourced and someone will delete it.

Take care, Tony the Marine (talk) 02:24, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Great! and if you know the name of their restaurant, the number/types of courts, how many wet/dry docks the place contains and could add it better yet! yes, I was aware the other place is a diff company,,,it might be beneficial to keep it as a "competition" statement though. El Johnson, your idea to create an article about Luis Stefani and a list of rectors of uprm is great. But I could not find enough information to create such articles. I would like you to tell me of any other articles or items in which we can collaborate. However if you have any recommendationsor or comments for improving an article also let me know. I will let you know if I find information to make such articles. Ludqui (talk) 02:44, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That is a good idea, but if we make an article of notable alumni of Colegio only would be very small because we dont have the numbers of notable alumni that have universities as harvard. Would be better to do an article of notable alumni of the University of Puerto Rico in general, of all 11 campuses. This would make an article most complete and with more alumni, comparable to other american universities as Harvard. What do you think? However keeps telling me about recomendations and ideas to improve the UPRM article in which we can collaborate. Ludqui (talk) 04:21, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ave. Hostos

[edit]

Yeah, I've never seen any road signs calling it Hostos either, but buildings alongside Highway 2 have an Hostos Ave address. For example, the Walgreens in front of the mall is 992 Hostos while the Walgreens by Western Auto is 2097 Hostos. So the Hostos name at least extends that far. File permission problem with File:Historia Sigma.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Historia Sigma.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MBisanz talk 08:58, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Puerto Rican images

[edit]

As you all know, certain situations among which are included my personal health, have led me take a leave of absence from Wikipedia, however I believe that the idea proposed by Angusmclellan is an excellent one. Instead of nominating Puerto Rican related images by the masses, the images which have problems will first be listed in the page which I just created: Wikipedia:WikiProject Puerto Rico/Images with problems. We will be given more then sufficient time as a "team" to find sources and make what ever fixes need be in order to keep them from being deleted. This is a Wiki-community team effort regardless of who uploaded the image. I ask all those who really care about the images related to Puerto Rico to post the link "Wikipedia:WikiProject Puerto Rico/Images with problems" in your "watchlists". Hi, the article was marked for deletion, and I provided a rationale for the encyclopedic nature of the article. However an editor/admin is requesting a citation for the fact that the alley is part of the Games. I think is a fair request. However, this is your neck of the woods...I went by what was written in the Games' article, specifically in the venue's scoreboard. Knowing you, I am certain you have a solid citation for the claim. Can you provide it to me, or better yet, add it to the article to remove the cn inline tag, and possibly also provide your own input against the deletion request in the article's Discussion page? Thanks, Mercy11 (talk) 06:34, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Concerning your contribution, Nu Sigma Beta, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://frat.eu/nu_sigma_beta_en.html. As a copyright violation, Nu Sigma Beta appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Nu Sigma Beta has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Nu Sigma Beta and send an email with the message to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that it is licensed under the CC-BY-SA license, leave a note at Talk:Nu Sigma Beta with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the CC-BY-SA and GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Nu Sigma Beta.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. Read the Copyright Notice. All of the information was copy/edited from wikipedia!El Johnson (talk) 05:43, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've read it, and it was licensed under GFDL which is now incompatible with the current licensing, so I've asked an admin to take a look at the older versions and see if that problem is fixable and if there are any other problems with the article as it stands. VernoWhitney (talk) 11:47, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

A tag has been placed on Nu Sigma Beta requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. VernoWhitney (talk) 12:54, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer permission

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 16:22, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will at least wait 24 hours to see if there are any objections and to at least give the deleting administrator the opportunity to reinstate the atrticle, before taking any action if so required. You've definitely demonstrated notability; good work on finding your sources. Why don't you just move it back to mainspace? I'd recommend, however, that you improve the sourcing; significant sections aren't referenced by anything. That's not a reason for anyone to delete the article, of course; it's just a quality improvement suggestion. Nyttend (talk) 04:48, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Mayaguez 2010 pictures

[edit]

The pictures are really nice, but I think that you are going to have problems. It is really difficult to come up with a rationale for an image unless it is old or of a dead person and even then it is hard. I know, I have had to deal with those problems in the past. To tell you the truth, I have given up in uploading images for Wikipedia. I did, however manage to get the PR Government to declare that the images from the ICP and the Capital building were PD and recently I got the Puerto Rican Preservation of Historical Sites to do the same. I think you are going to have problems with the images from the "blog", unless the author states on the site that the images are PD or unless you are able to get the author to sign an OTRS permit for usage. The "RUM" images may run into the same problem that I had with the "ICP" images at first. The only way that you are going to be allowed to use their images is by e-mailing the director of the "RUM" and asking if the images on their site are PD. If the director states that they are, then you can forward the e-mail to OTRS and ask for a ticket number for the RUM images. Tony the Marine (talk) 19:21, 30 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do this

[edit]
  • E-mail this is to the blogger who is the copyright holder of the image:

"I _____, as the copyright holder of the image attached/in url xxx, agree to release in under the terms of GFDL. I understand that this allows anyone to use the image for any purpose, including commercial use, as long as the constraints in the license, like attribution, are respected."

Note:

  • 2. After the blogger signs the permit, e-mail it to "permissions-en@wikimedia.org"
  • 3. Place this "tag" on the image page {{OTRS pending}}
  • 4. Repeat the process for the other images.

It also includes a list of specific security measures at the Games.

If the above link doesn't give you the map, google "gobierno de pr dtop", it should yield the usual google listing with "Departamento de Transportacion y Obras Publicas - Mayaguez 2010" listed on the first or so google page (mine was the first one on the whole google list).

A tag has been placed on File:Santiagollorens.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Puerto Rican Campaign

[edit]

I have often asked myself, why did the U.S. invade Puerto Rico, and what did they really want? What were their true intentions? I mean the racists element never had the intention of making Puerto Rico a state since they considered Puerto Ricans an inferior people made up of mixed races. Was the battleship Maine attacked by Spain or was it that the United States was willing to sacrifice a few thousand American lives in order to expand it's territorial and military might by blowing up the ship themselves? I think that you will find very interesting the minor addition that I just made to the section "Prelude to the Puerto Rican Campaign" of the Puerto Rican Campaign article which should make you think about what I am stating here. I didn't knowthat the little island had so much history. Also I wanted to stop here to say thanks for the great work around the Centroamericanos and Puerta del Sol articles. Saludos, --Jmundo (talk) 19:38, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In reviewing THIS PAGE, it appeared to me that the entry "Talk:Mar y Sol Festival" (and thus its corresponding article) did not seem to fit with the reast of the Top importance entries there. Since you are the creator of the article, I am addressing this message to you. If you agree that the importance rating of the article Mar y Sol Festival, with respect to the rating of the other Top-importance articles in the project, article may be incorrect, it should probably be re-assessed. Rebekah Colberg-Date of death

[edit]
OK, everybody. I must be getting old and my memory must be failing me, that is the only excuse that I can come up with (sonrisa). El Comite Olimpico de Puerto Rido" has answered me and this is what they say: "she died on July 8, 1995, not on 1985 as is said online. She was one of the torch bearers on the Central American Games in Ponce 1993." Coming from them, I accept that answer, agreed? Tony the Marine (talk) 19:02, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Club Deportivo del Oeste requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Re: San Felipe hurricane

[edit]

I see what you're saying about how most older storms do have real names, but you can't simply call it the "San Felipe hurricane" when there is another more notable storm also known as the "San Felipe hurricane" (the one in 1928). Sure, the ladder is sometimes followed by "Segundo", but it's still better known than the 1876 one was, which is why I think the year is required. If you're going to add more to the article, just tell the other authors that, and the article won't get merged. Add some storm history (I can tell you where to find it), and include as much as you can on its effects everywhere. However, be sure to remember that you don't own articles, and other people can edit and do stuff to articles you made. Hurricanehink (talk) 04:07, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For example, it's called "meteorological history", not "overview", lead need expansion, need more reference, I will go help around if I got time. HurricaneSpin Talk 04:19, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • You said "Hi Tony, could you please move back 1876 San Felipe hurricane to the name I created it with: San Felipe Hurricane". I looked at the history of the latter "San Felipe Hurricane" which is a disambiguation page of the two hurricanes and did not see you as creator. Now, I think that as a disambiguation page it is fine, however "1876 San Felipe hurricane" should be "San Felipe hurricane (1876)". Now, I see that "1876 San Felipe hurricane" is part of a Tropical hurricane series. If you want, you can write a complete article dedicated solely to the San Felipe hurricane of 1876 and title it "San Felipe hurricane (1876)". Tony the Marine (talk) 05:39, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly disagree with the current title. True, a project doesn't own an article, but there should be consistency among articles. The format is that the title should be "1876 San Felipe hurricane". Years shouldn't be in parenthesis, simply put. --Hurricanehink (talk) 21:54, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You contradict yourself, Wikipedia:WikiProject Tropical cyclones states:

"Unnamed (including numbered) hurricanes (used for older tropical cyclones in all basins) should be distinguished by location, type, and year. Three naming conventions are acceptable: Galveston Hurricane of 1900, 1928 Okeechobee Hurricane, or Unnamed Hurricane (1975). All unnamed hurricanes should always have a year in the name. Again, create redirects wherever necessary to avoid confusion or duplicate articles."

that is a direct quote. I added the bold. So what is it, you follow your own guidelines only when its in your liking? El Johnson (talk) 22:32, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The fact of the matter is, the Hurricane is not UNNAMED so there is even no need for it to have a year.El Johnson (talk) 22:36, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It should be moved back, but the stuff on the project page is old and should be fixed. YE Tropical Cyclone 23:09, 1 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I agree, it should be changed back, it should be changed back to San Felipe Hurricane. Since that is its name, simply put. You cant go around re-naming hurricanes just because its your "guidelines" even thou the fact of the matter is you are going against what your own project page says. As was stated above nether I not the hurricane project owns the article.

The fact is that its been called San Felipe Hurricane since 1876, and even NOAA recognizes it as such [4], [5], please provide me with any citation that calls it 1876 San Felipe hurricane, for I still haven't found any. But if you do find ONE the are a a lot more that call it by ITS NAME : San Felipe Hurricane.

May I suggest/request that this discussion be moved to the article talk page? El Johnson (talk) 00:26, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
