my "act"

Can I list Atlantic Sun for deletion? I can't find any proof of its existence, a google search found me nothing. I added unreferenced. Do you have any sources or objections?NewAtThis (talk) 12:47, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

seems to me like it needs a lot of help too.NewAtThis (talk) 12:48, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Happened to notice this comment, and yes, the article very much needs work. Its probably real, and the older versions have informal references--I dont have time to follow it up myself at the moment. DGG (talk) 18:34, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Deaths in 2008

An editor has nominated Deaths in 2008, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Deaths in 2008 and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 18:01, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Recreation of article by a banned user

Thanks for your note with respect to Casey Owens (marine), which I have reproduced immediately below for your convenience.

Please undelete Casey Owens (marine), which, while a contribution by a blocked user, was a alid article. Please relpy at my talk page. Editorofthewiki 19:48, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm in rather a Catch-22 about this. I agree with you that it seems to be a valid article (I haven't traced down the references, but on its face it looks legitimate). At the same time, I believe that recreating the article would be contrary to the policy on banned users and could, in a sense, be viewed as my trying to circumvent this ban (which I assume was imposed for a good reason). What I would like to do, if you agree, is to recreate the content of the article for you on a sandbox page at User:Editorofthewiki/Sandbox. Then, if you still think it is worthwhile, you can recreate the article yourself and take responsibility for the contents -- thus, the contents will not be ascribed to the banned user, and Wikipedia will have the benefit of an article (if, of course, it passes muster in other respects). Please let me know on my talk page what your wishes are in this respect. Accounting4Taste:talk 21:31, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

I should also mention that I shall be away from my desk over the weekend and thus, if I don't hear from you within an hour or so, the situation may have to wait until Monday. However, if another administrator reads this, I expect I would have no problem with any solution that meets with your mutual approval. Accounting4Taste:talk 21:52, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
It's been placed at the end of your sandbox as per your request. If you have any further questions or problems, please feel free to leave me a note at your convenience. Accounting4Taste:talk 23:00, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

(exdent) I tend to agree in this specific instance with your comments about the policy, but in fact this is the first time I recall ever seeing anything worthwhile -- or apparently worthwhile -- coming from a banned user. I was sufficiently interested to go and re-read the policy on contributions by banned users and why they are required to be speedily deleted. It seemed to me that the policy was saying that, regardless of the merits of their contribution, the deletion was necessary -- and this is interpretation on my part -- because the deletion is part of the punishment associated with banning. That's how I read it, at any rate. I have certainly deleted a number of useless pages created by banned users in the past, and what crossed my mind in this instance was that the page could be some sort of elaborate hoax; I trust you have guarded against that possibility. However, I will defer to your judgment in this matter, since it seems likely that Wikipedia will get a useful article out of it. I believe this is the one-in-a-thousand incidence of useful content coming from a banned user, so I'm grateful that you brought this to my attention. If anything further comes up in relation to this, just let me know. Accounting4Taste:talk 23:25, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

You have certainly refuted my contention with your quotation ("Blocks are used to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, not to punish users.") and I'm grateful to know the correct policy. Since I have seen a number of useless pages created by banned users (more than this single instance of a useful page) I can't say I necessarily agree with the possible change in policy -- what I will say, though, is that if I see a page tagged for deletion because it was created by a banned user, I will examine the content carefully and, if it seems useful, non-hoaxing and non-policy-infringing, I will adopt it myself by cutting it, deleting the page, then restoring the page's content with myself as the creator (with appropriate notification on the relevant talk page). I suppose what I'm suggesting is that every instance should be considered individually, and I intend to do that from now on. Thanks again for your valuable contribution in this matter -- it's always great to rescue material and give Wikipedia a new page, and congratulations for your perseverance in doing that -- I'm now off for the weekend!! Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:IvanKorade.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 01:43, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Verifiability.

I see you're creating a lot of articles about villages in Hungary without any sources - please read Wikipedia's verifiability policy. -- Jeandré, 2008-04-07t12:16z

They are all from their Hungarian equivalent, I thought that was a given. Editorofthewiki 19:29, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Hungarian towns

Who do you think the guy was who created all the articles like Mezőkovácsháza and all of the provincial templates like that one??? I added all the villages in at least 5 provinces over a year and a half ago -I took for granted by now somebody had completed them but obviously not. You'll need to created some more provincial templates then ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:47, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Mark Speight

Hey, I reverted your addition of a fair use image to Mark Speight's page. As he is still alive a free-use image is still possible to obtain, therefore it does not satisfy fair use laws to include one. In fact, I have just messaged a Flickr user, asking if they will change the license of an image of Speight so it can be freely used here. Gran2 16:50, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Certainly, and now that's done. This infobox needed the full works. It would be a lot less confusing if all of the infobox image fields were the same. Gran2 16:59, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the message -- your reason was not clear from the edit summary. – ukexpat (talk) 12:01, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, it's good to have an image here, but that one lacks a fair-use rationale for this article. In addition, it's a screenshot which can only be fair-use in relation to the TV program it's illustrating. That's why, for example, we do not have photos of actors in character in actor infoboxes. I will try and find a better image, but for now it has to go. Thanks. --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 10:18, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Glinn.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Glinn.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 00:28, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Burt Glinn

Hello, Editorofthewiki. In this page it puts born July 23 and in the infobox August 23. Which is the correct? Thank you and greetings, Antón Francho (if you want to say something to me) 01:26, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Como veo que entiendes mi idioma te repito aquí la pregunta en español, porque mi inglés es muy limitado: Hola, Editorofthewiki. En su página pone nacido 23 julio y en la infobox 23 agosto. ¿Cuál es la correcta? Gracias y saludos, Antón Francho (if you want to say something to me) 01:26, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

I am curious about your redirect of this page and accompanying edit summary - especially given the AfD of this article. May I suggest that if you disagree with the AfD closure, the best course of action would be deletion review, rather than unilaterally trying to overturn a keep closure by redirecting. Pastordavid (talk) 19:48, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Redirection was a distinct possibilty as stated in the afd, but I have taken the issue to DRV. Editorofthewiki 19:51, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
DRV opened here. Pastordavid (talk) 19:55, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
DRV tag added, unprotected. Pastordavid (talk) 20:01, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
With all due repect to Pastordavid, I think undoing the redirect and proposing a merger would have been more efficient and more likely to result in a redirect than trying to overturn the AfD. The AfD will either be overturned or it won't, and by the looks of it it's practically a WP:SNOWball endorse-keep. The only way to get a redirect is to be bold and hope you don't get reverted, which won't happen, or propose a merger and see what the resulting discussion says. I expect there will be a sizable minority or possibly even a majority to merge. There might even be a consensus. Personally, I think if you want a redirect/merger, your best course of action is to wait until her first birthday passes. If there is little or nothing about her in the press between now and then, you have a good shot at getting consensus for a merger. Until then, it will be an uphill battle. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 14:16, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

French cantons 2

Hi, I see you're adding articles for the French cantons. Since all French communes have articles (hip hip hooray!), could you check the red links to communes in the canton articles? Probably, they still have French wikipedia disambiguation, that works with parentheses instead of a comma. Keep up the good work! Markussep Talk 11:38, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Auvergne

Bon jour. Please note that Auvergne is a disambiguation page, so when you are creating infoboxes for articles about French localities, it would be preferable to use rég=Auvergne instead of just rég=Auvergne. Thanks. --Russ (talk) 20:52, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

We already came to a consensus after weeks of work on the talk page of how we want to handle her age. Basically, we express our doubt in the first paragraph and everything else assumes that is true and will continue to do so UNLESS a reliable, third party source comes out and says otherwise. Please do not change the wording regarding her age, as doing so will be considered disruptive. Cheers, CP 15:21, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Your user name

I have made the comment on your editor review page that I think your user name creates the wrong impression that you have an official relationship with Wikipedia. My suggestion is that you change it. If you're interested in becoming an admin, I think this will certainly be an issue raised at that time. I'd rather discuss this with you personally rather than bring it up on AN/I or the Usernames noticeboard.

What do you think? Ed Fitzgerald (unfutz) (talk / cont) 02:03, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

EOTW: I understand that you like your username, but I do think it's a bit problematic. Let's open a discussion on RFCN and see what happens -- maybe I'm wrong and it's OK! Ed Fitzgerald (unfutz) (talk / cont) 02:29, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for opening the discussion -- and may I say that I admire your attitude about this, and your openness to discuss it. Well done! Ed Fitzgerald (unfutz) (talk / cont) 02:51, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Hi - I don't know if you've seen, but the response is running completely in favor of your name not being a problem, so I've asked that the discussion be closed. Congatulations, and sorry if I've caused you any distress. Ed Fitzgerald (unfutz) (talk / cont) 06:21, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Glinn.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Glinn.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Cirt (talk) 09:36, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
