The Jazz Singer
Hi Dutchy, you have just made an edit at here, but there is a problem with the numbers.
You state that it earned "$947,000 domestically and $651,000 foreign", but this does not add up to $2,625,000. The worldwide figure seems to be corroborated by Hall & Neale, but they put the domestic take at $1,974,000. The $1,974,000 figure is further corroborated by Crafton. Furthermore, the sum of $1,974,000 and $651,000 comes to $2,625,000, a total you yourself added. This would indicate a mistake with the domestic figure so could you please double check it for me please. Betty Logan (talk) 21:01, 29 September 2018 (UTC) You are entirely right, thanks Betty. The actual copy I've got of the ledger says 947,000 for domestic but I think they wrote it down incorrectly.Dutchy85 (talk) 21:10, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Tarnished (film)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Tarnished (film). First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Tarnished. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Tarnished. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.
If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Wgolf (talk) 19:29, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

The article Justified Action has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Fails GNG. I could find so little on this I thought it might be a hoax (it still could be?). Only two references seem to exist at all. None of the (at least main) actors list this in their IMDB profiles. A possible COI SPA editor has removed the actors, ie including themself, from the infobox.

Request reason:
Hi there - first of all thank you Moneyemoji for drawing my attention to what I did. I was copying descriptions of episodes, and took my eye off the ball, and did not change it enough. I shouldn't have done it. It was a mistake. I also fully accept I have had problems in this area in the past and have made a concerted effort to correct it. I'm not sure how many edits I have made since the last blocking, which was over a year and a half ago - possibly nine thousand - and believe my record for these has been good. (If I am mistaken please let me know). This was an accidental relapse, one which I am sorry for. If my attention had been drawn to the error while I was still able to edit (I haven't been near my computer for a couple of hours) I would have done so immediately. I really enjoy editing wikipieda and believe I have made a solid contribution over the years. I have made errors, and apologise for the error in this case. I would argue that one error over many thousands of entries should not result in an indefinite ban - would perhaps a finite ban of say a week be more appropriate? Anyway thanks for drawing attention to the error and sorry for taking up your time. All the best Dutchy85 (talk) 02:39, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
Accept reason:
In light of the fact that you've edited for an extended period of time since your last copyright violation, presumably with no other incidents, I'm going to change the block from indefinite, to expiring at the end of the year. This will give other editors a chance to dig through your last 9000 edits to see if there have been any other copyright violations. If there have been, I will likely reinstate the indefinite block. If not, it will expire at the end of the year and you can resume editing. I think it goes without saying that this is your last chance, and the next copyright violation will result in a permanent ban. ‑Scottywong| [babble] || 18:12, 12 November 2019 (UTC)

Dutchy, looking back on your talk page history, I see numerous similar incidents, and I see numerous similar explanations that you "just made a mistake" and you'll be more careful in the future. Can you explain how exactly it is possible to "mistakenly" copy and paste content from a copyrighted webpage into Wikipedia? How does such a thing happen accidentally? That's not something that can be explained by "oops I clicked on the wrong button" or "oops I hit the wrong key on my keyboard". What you're claiming is "oops I accidentally went to a copyrighted website, highlighted large portions of text, copied them, went to Wikipedia, and pasted that text into an article". There is no way that such a thing could be done accidentally by any competent person, especially not an editor that has made tens of thousands of edits. Not only that, this is far from the first time that it has happened with you. If you truly did this by mistake multiple times, then you're only proving that you lack the competence required to be an editor here. Another admin may decide to unblock you, but I won't agree to unblock you unless you can provide an adequate explanation for this behavior. And, "oops I made a mistake, I'll be more careful in the future" is not going to cut it this time. ‑Scottywong| [spout] || 03:30, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Scottywong, thanks for your prompt reply I really appreciate. The mistake came about by this - I was copying text because most of it was pure information (a director, an episode title, a date, a writer). I was copying episode descriptions with every intent to rearrange the wording but before I got the chance I was called away and pressed "publish" when I should not have done so. This was a high risk edit strategy which I should not have done. It was a mistake. I can only reiterate that since my last warning I have done an estimate 9,000 edits without a mistake (at least not to my knowledge). Thank you for your time.Dutchy85 (talk) 04:03, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
Here's a simple rule that you can follow: do not copy-paste anything into Wikipedia, even if policy says that you can (for example, public domain content). NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 04:23, 11 November 2019 (UTC) Hi NinjaRobotPirate that is excellent advice. Thank you for taking the time to comment. Dutchy85 (talk) 04:25, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
Hi scottywong thanks for getting back to me I appreciate it. I actually might take an involuntary long-term break from wikipedia so there is no hurry for the editors. I absolutely appreciate the hard work that all the editors do, and it's fantastic. I've just found this experience a bit debilitating. I put all the time and work - as do the editors, I know - in trying to add to wikipedia, and then make a mistake, a silly mistake, and I get hit a full on ban as opposed to a warning. I absolutely know where you and the others are coming from, I know the purpose and the intent, and I do recognise that I have slipped up on this in the past... still, it's knocked me around a bit so I think I should have some time away. Thanks again for all your help and for getting back to me so quickly. All the best.Dutchy85 (talk) 20:28, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
- A voluntary break might be a good thing. I understand that it doesn't feel nice to be blocked, especially after volunteering a lot of your time towards this project. Please realize that copyright violations are extremely serious for Wikipedia, because they can cause legal trouble for the organization. That is part of the reason that you're getting treated somewhat harshly right now; there must be zero tolerance for copyright violations. The one part of your statement that I have to disagree with is that you received no warning. You've already been blocked twice, and last time you received very clear warnings about copyright violations and how serious they are treated here. It's not unusual for people to copy material into Wikipedia because they're unaware of the copyright policies. However, once they are blocked for persistent copyright violations and educated about the policies, the vast majority of them never copy content into Wikipedia again. If it does happen again, it's a clear sign that the editor either doesn't care about copyright policies, or isn't a serious contributor here, and they are quickly blocked permanently. I'm willing to believe that this was an unusual mistake, but I think that the seriousness of this mistake needs to be communicated to you. Either way, try to enjoy your break. Also, please don't try to evade the block, I've seen people attempt that before and it never ends well for them. ‑Scottywong| [speak] || 20:43, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for the prompt response (and for shifting the text down to the proper place.) I understand where you are coming from. I don't want wikipedia to get in trouble. And I get it about evading the block - I assume they have my IP address or something. Have a good Christmas. Dutchy85 (talk) 20:50, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
Autopatrolled removed
In addition to the block above, I've removed autopatrolled. Regardless of whether or not you are unblocked, I don't think someone with a history of copyright violations can be trusted with it. — JJMC89 (T·C) 04:10, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
