From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A tag has been placed on George Turnbull: "The first railway engineer of India" requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Kyle1278 (talk) 19:56, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

George Turnbull

[edit]

I stumbled across your work on George Turnbull through the link on Abbots Langley ~ thanks for leading me into some interesting stuff I'd never come across before. I hope you don't mind the changes I've made: I made George Turnbull a disambiguation page and renamed yours to a pithier George Turnbull (engineer), switched repeated refs to named references, and removed some accidental signatures from articles.
Nice work! Bazj (talk) 21:07, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

George Turnbull (engineer) is now George Turnbull (civil engineer) (it's the "move" tag at the top of the page). Cheers, Bazj (talk) 14:08, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:Bermuda lily field 1920s.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

License tagging for File:Ryujo 1870.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Ryujo 1870.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 21:05, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Duncanmemoirspics 006.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Thanks for uploading File:Childers backpackers fire painting.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. 16 April 2010. Despite the comments below, please keep this article which commemorates a life cut short by Australia's lax fire safety laws. There are few events that result in 15 arson deaths. The details of the arson event and its victims were given worldwide publicity because of the countries from where the victims originated. You can mention "Childers" to millions of people with sure recognition of the arson. I am confident that the TV and other media publicity particularly across Europe, Korea and Japan (about youngsters killed from there and warning their inhabitants of the risks in Australia) satisfies Wikipedia's "notoriety" requirements.Duncanogi (talk) 13:39, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Duncanogi. I see you've uploaded File:Childers backpackers fire painting numbered.jpg. Please note that pasting an email on the image's description page is insufficient for Wikipedia. Rather the email should be forwarded to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, noting the name of the image (File:Childers backpackers fire painting numbered.jpg) and the image's copyright stats (i.e. is it public domain? is it GFDL, is it Creative Commons, ect.) For more on this, see WP:DCP and WP:PERMISSION. I'll give you a wee to do this, otherwise, I'll delete the image. -FASTILY (TALK) 04:12, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks. Will do. Duncanogi (talk) 10:06, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted image

[edit]

If you're referring to File:Childers backpackers fire painting numbered.jpg in your message on my talkpage, I was not the one who deleted it. I merely operate the computer program that cleaned up after User:Explicit deleted it.

If you look at the deletion history for that image, you'll find that it was deleted after this discussion. I don't have access to the OTRS system, but the emails you posted on my talkpage simply grant permission for the image to be used on Wikipedia, which is not the same thing as releasing the image into the public domain (what you claimed on the image description page). This discrepancy, and the fact that Wikipedia-only permission is not sufficient for an image to be used on Wikipedia, is why the image was deleted. --Carnildo (talk) 21:48, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly unfree File:Childers backpackers painting.jpg

[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Childers backpackers painting.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

The article William Paton Ogilvie has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I have nominated RacingThePlanet: Namibia, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/RacingThePlanet: Namibia. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Simon-in-sagamihara (talk) 06:54, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, RacingThePlanet: Namibia

[edit]

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, RacingThePlanet: Namibia. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - RacingThePlanet. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at RacingThePlanet - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Simon-in-sagamihara (talk) 01:08, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please refer to http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_files/2010_May_3#File:Childers_backpackers_painting.jpg Simon-in-sagamihara Like a previous editor did, I'll wait a week for you to request the appropriate permissions from the copyright holder before tagging the image for deletion. "Yet another ..." but James Alexander of Wikipedia "permissions" is handling the situation. The artist Jo Paliatis has given permission ... but Wikipedia needs adjusted wording for this. Please Simon-in-sagamihara be more sensitive. I have met the mother of one of the youngsters killed, still mourning her beloved son ten years after the event, and she is horrified by the continued contention. I am still trying to get useful information about this widely publicised arson adequately covered in Wikipedia. Simon-in-sagamihara: could you please add to articles instead of so often harassing others. Harassment reduces the willingness of people to contribute to Wikipedia. --Duncanogi (talk) 12:20, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Duncan, I'll ignore your personal attacks and focus on the issues at hand. "Yet another" refers to your latest misunderstanding of copyright in this list:

Second, your friend's feelings are irrelevant to Wikipedia articles -- unless your friend is notable as per WP:N! Third, you have been advised time and again about how Wikipedia is not a memorial site, nor a soapbox, nor a free web host. You have been directed to Wikipedia's offical policies on every point that you seem to have trouble grasping, and yet you continue to push the same point of view. Fourth, I direct you to the notice that is shown under every "Save page" button: "If you do not want your writing to be edited, used, and redistributed at will, then do not submit it here." Simon-in-sagamihara (talk) 12:54, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also regarding your edit to RacingThePlanet: Namibia: another editor reverted your edit. Did you see the notice in the "This article is being considered for deletion..." box? It says "Feel free to edit the article, but the article must not be blanked, and this notice must not be removed, until the discussion is closed." The bolding is in the original. Simon-in-sagamihara (talk) 12:56, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Again, Simon-in-sagamihara: could you please add to articles instead of so often harassing others. Harassment reduces the willingness of people to contribute to Wikipedia.

You reasonably list 12 pictures for which I did not correctly add the copyright authority. 10 of these are photos/pictures etc taken by me or my family (some of them dead). The Wikipedia copyright procedure is complex as explained by many others: please do not continue to harass people who willingly contribute but have tried to understand Wiki procedures. Please concentrate on adding to Wiki rather than deterring others.--Duncanogi (talk) 13:43, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ad-hominem attacks, Duncan. Simon-in-sagamihara (talk) 13:47, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with you. Simon-in-sagamihara: could you please now concentrate on adding to articles instead of so often harassing others such as me. I have spent many hours contributing information that I have researched. Your activity disinclines people to contribute: are you doing the same with many other people?--Duncanogi (talk) 15:46, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Salvador Calvo Redondo has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from David Gordon Hines. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. If you want to remove one of the maintenance templates (notability), you can remove that one individually. You don't need to remove the whole set. Simon-in-sagamihara (talk) 23:13, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comments below. Notability: please note the London Daily Telegraph obituary that is already referenced in the article. Your major concern seems to be to attack notability even though there is an internationally respected source already posted. Please look at the obituary which was thoroughly reviewed by this reputable newspaper. The newspaper accepted the obituary because of the hundreds of thousands of African subsistence-farmers that had improved living standards because of David Gordon Hines and his team. I was very impressed when I interviewed him. May I suggest that you review the obituary, identify other sources and add information to Wikipedia? -- Wiki needs more about Africa and about co-operatives.Duncanogi (talk) 09:35, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This is my final message to you off article talk pages. Please do not contact me via my talk page any more. If you have a specific concern about an edit to an article, feel free to post it to that article's talk page. If you continue to ignore established Wikipedia policies and attack me personally I will report you to the Administrators' Noticeboard. Thank you. Simon-in-sagamihara (talk) 10:07, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Please clarify (without using threatening language again): you are not wanting comments on your talk page but you put them on mine and those of other people.Duncanogi (talk) 10:32, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I also wanted to touch base because a search of the OTRS system did not turn up this image in connection with the other images from the mother of this victim. A tag has been placed on Storran Gallery requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Greetings

[edit]

Hello. I'm an image expert here on Wikipedia. I see you've been having problems with some of the images you've uploaded. The process can be quite byzantine, and some people can be rude; for that I apologize.

We have to be very careful (some would say paranoid) about copyright on Wikipedia, since we are such a prominent website and so liable to be sued. As a nonprofit, Wikipedia would soon be sued out of existence if we weren't overly cautious about copyright. It shouldn't lead to rudeness on our part, however. I wanted to thank you, sincerely, for the images you've uploaded, and try to help save the ones under discussion.

When you upload a photograph that you created yourself (such as File:Chew Magna WWII decoy pill box - 2.JPG), it's a relatively simple process. As the photographer, you hold the copyright, and you have the right to either release the image into the public domain or release it under a free license. When someone else created the photograph, however, things get more complicated. Even if you scan an old photograph you own, you don't hold the copyright on the image; the original photographer does. In some cases, the copyright will have expired on the old photograph. (This is why I changed the copyright tag on File:Doris Turnbull in a pram, Nowgong, Assam 1902.jpg and File:Joseph Cubitt (civil engineer).jpg, for instance.) In other cases, you may have inherited the copyright from a family member, and would therefore have the right to release it into the public domain: File:Ilaro Court - site of new garden 1925.jpg is like that. But in still other cases, the old photo might still be under copyright.

With all that in mind, do you know who created File:Lawrence Ogilvie on Bermuda-NY ship for a Cornell University 1923 conference.jpg, or if it's ever been published? Do you have any info on the photographers of File:Justin Ogilvie, northern Svalbard late 1970s.jpg, File:Department of Agriculture, Bermuda 1926.jpg, File:L Ogilvie lilies Bermuda 1926.jpg, File:Lawrence Ogilvie & Brian Mulligan, Long Ashton Research Station 1930.jpg, File:L O + mum 1911, 70 Gladstone Place, Aberdeen.jpg, File:Lawrence Ogilvie, Bermuda 1927.jpg, or File:Rosehill, Abbots Langley 1907.jpg? Do you know who the painter was for File:Ryujo 1870.jpg? Also, do you still have the brochures that File:Lowthorpe School 1920s main house.jpg, File:Lowthorpe School 1920s brochure.jpg, and File:IBM 1755 Operator Desk.jpg came from? Can you see if they had a © notice anywhere on the brochure?

As for File:Presentation gold-plated AO drill.jpg, I see that Roger Evely created the photo, so he holds the copyright. If he is willing to release the image into the public domain, then there is no problem; however, if he only wants to authorize Wikipedia to use the photo (but doesn't want to allow others to reuse it), then I'm afraid we can't accept the photo. We only accept "free" photos, meaning photos that anyone (not just Wikipedia) can reuse for any purpose (including modifications and commercial use). If he is willing to release the image under such a license, let me know and I'll start the process to get this image protected. If not, though, I'm afraid it will have to be deleted after all. (The case of File:ROCgroupphoto.jpg is similar.)

Again, your photos are excellent, and really help Wikipedia. Any answers you can give to the questions above will help. Thanks very much, – Quadell (talk) 13:57, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    • Thank you for the very time consuming, detailed, and helpful note above. I shall try to identify the source of each photo -- nearly all of which I have here in Bristol, England:

File:Doris Turnbull in a pram, Nowgong, Assam 1902.jpg: photo of my mother taken by her father. Both now dead.

File:Joseph Cubitt (civil engineer).jpg: I cannot remember. Cubitt was a colleague of my mother's grandfather George Turnbull (civil engineer).

File:Ilaro Court - site of new garden 1925.jpg: indeed a photo by my mother, now dead -- she was the landscape architect working there for a year.

File:L O + mum 1911, 70 Gladstone Place, Aberdeen.jpg: photo of my father and his mother by his father.

File:Lawrence Ogilvie on Bermuda-NY ship for a Cornell University 1923 conference.jpg, File:L Ogilvie lilies Bermuda 1926.jpg and File:Lawrence Ogilvie, Bermuda 1927.jpg: photos by my mother (now dead) who was "courting" him then.

File:Lawrence Ogilvie & Brian Mulligan, Long Ashton Research Station 1930.jpg: photographer not known, original with me.

File:Justin Ogilvie, northern Svalbard late 1970s.jpg: photo by my son Justin's friend James Durie, who releases this photo of a schoolboy trip to the Arctic.

File:Rosehill, Abbots Langley 1907.jpg: photo of forebears understood to be by taken by one of them.

File:Ryujo 1870.jpg: the artist is T J Culpan.

I have had a number of other photos deleted, I feel unnecessarily, (for instance recently one of the Yangtze Gorge, China): I would love to get these reinstated as it is tedious to copy them and upload them, and dispiriting to have them deleted (sometimes somewhat rudely).Duncanogi (talk) 17:14, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File:Lowthorpe School 1920s main house.jpg, File:Lowthorpe School 1920s brochure.jpg: I do have the brochure. It has no copyright statement on it.

File:IBM 1755 Operator Desk.jpg: IBM copyright I am afraid.

File:Presentation gold-plated AO drill.jpg: he has told me that he is happy to release it into the public domain.

File:ROCgroupphoto.jpg: unknown source. A neighbour asked me to load it.

I have had a number of other photos deleted -- most dispiriting. Grateful if you can reinstate them.Duncanogi (talk) 17:17, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your detailed reply. A few of these image I won't be able to save, since we don't have enough information about the original copyright holders. But for most others, they will be just fine. I have updated a few of the image description pages to better reflect your intentions. For example, please carefully check the text at File:Rosehill, Abbots Langley 1907.jpg... I stated there that "If copyright exists anywhere, the uploader (heir to the photographer) releases the photo into the public domain." Is this exactly correct, and does it reflect your wishes?
I was also able to restore File:Upstream on the Yangtze Gorge about 2004 before the dam.jpg and File:Lawrence and Duncan Ogilvie, Dundry 1947.jpg, moving them both to the Commons so that all Wikipedia projects can access them.
Finally, I would love to be able to keep File:Presentation gold-plated AO drill.jpg, but to do so, the Wikimedia Foundation will need concrete evidence that the copyright holder releases the image into the public domain. If you can convince the photographer to send an e-mail to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, that would be perfect. The e-mail would have to include a link to the image in question -- http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:Presentation_gold-plated_AO_drill.jpg -- and a statement that says something like "I am the photographer, and I release the image into the public domain". If you prefer, you could have the photographer e-mail you (or me) and then you (or I) could forward the e-mail on. Either way, that would work. If this doesn't happen, though, the image will probably get deleted, which would be a shame.
Again, thanks for all your efforts. – Quadell (talk) 18:46, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Upload free media to COmmons, please

It is better if your free images can be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons as opposed to Wikipedia. Freely licensed or public domain media are more accessible to other Wikimedia projects if placed on Commons. Thank you: Jay8g (talk) 22:02, 19 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Major Cyril Raikes (1875-1963).jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Major Cyril Raikes (1875-1963).jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 20:57, 21 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Robert Smith (professor)

[edit]

Hello, Duncanogi, and thanks for contributing to Wikipedia!

I wanted to let you know that some editors are discussing at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Robert Smith (professor) whether the article Robert Smith (professor) should be in Wikipedia. I encourage you to comment there if you think the article should be kept in the encyclopedia.

The deletion discussion doesn't mean you did something wrong. In fact, other editors may have useful suggestions on how you can continue editing and improving Robert Smith (professor), which I encourage you to do. If you have any questions, feel free to ask at the Help Desk.

Thanks again for your contributions! SL93 (talk) 16:43, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What did you think about the deletion notice you received?

[edit]

Hi Duncanogi,

You recently received a message about either "Nomination for deletion" or "Proposed deletion" of an article you created. I'd like to ask you a few quick questions:

  1. Was the message helpful? Were the instructions clear and easy to follow?
  2. If not, how do you think the message could be improved?
  3. What do you think about the deletion process in general? Do you understand how to contest a deletion?

You can feel free to answer on my talk page or send me your response by email (mpinchuk@wikimedia.org). (I won't quote you or link your answers to your username if you don't feel comfortable with that.) Your feedback is incredibly useful for improving the content of deletion notifications, so please take a minute to think about and answer these questions. Thank you! Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not add promotional material to articles or other Wikipedia pages, as you did to Tide table. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are involved with QuickTides then either declare yourself on the talk pages and request that someone else make the edit, or refrain from editing related articles completely. This verges on spam. Your Lord and Master (talk) 08:46, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I declare that I invented and patented QuickTide 11 years ago and have waited for modifications to the article "Tide tables" for six years to reflect this new method of determining tidal information. I feel that the purpose of Wikipedia is to have up-to-date information: you and Wikipedia are clearly trying to prevent this. For instance, how can there be an illustration of a presumably copyright (California?) tide table on the page when you have deleted an illustration of a European one (QuickTide) for which I have the copyright and have authorised its diplay on Wikipedia? Duncanogi (talk) 09:34, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I will reload the picture of QuickTide, following my logic stated above. I am the copyright holder, having designed QuickTide myself.Duncanogi (talk) 17:02, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comments, which I do not understand. Your advice above about "Non-free use rationale guideline|non-free rationale" appears only to apply to USA law.

  • Please advise your understanding of the English law status of the document: I am confident that English law does not prevent publication of this document.
  • Please advise me what wording you suggest should be added.Duncanogi (talk) 20:38, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia's servers are hosted in the US, so US copyright law applies. --Closedmouth (talk) 08:37, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please, most of us do not have the time or skills to research US copyright law. We do not understand the dozens of categories of copyright available under Wikipedia. Please advise me what category you would think it is sensible to store this under. Duncanogi (talk) 09:37, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest that this is a rather unhelpful comment for a worldwide information source. The list of American-oriented copyright law dissuades many people from contributing worldwide I suggest.Duncanogi (talk) 09:24, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comments. I can only add that my father was born in Scotland and lived some 78 years of his life in his native Britain. In Bermuda, a British colony, he was employed in the 1920s for about 5 years by the British government as a plant pathologist. He was travelling (probably on a British ship) to New York paid by the British government to speak (at age 25) about his saving the then-vital Bermuda agricultural economy at a US academic conference. One can presume that he was photographed using his own camera by a European colleague with whom he was travelling (my father was a keen photographer). I, his son, have lived in Britain all my life.Duncanogi (talk) 07:46, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

New links added. Thanks.

Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:Richard and Mary Batten with their children at a wedding in 1966.jpg appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|Duncanogi}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.
  • If the image is clearly old enough to be public domain, but the exact sourcing or authorship is not easily determined, please consider placing {{subst:is-old|media type}} as the source and providing as much additional detail as possible.
If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:04, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited William Henley Raikes, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Talavera. Proposed deletion of William Henley Raikes

[edit]

The article William Henley Raikes has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No mention of notability. Unremarkable military officer.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Deletion discussion about IBM La Gaude

[edit]

Hello, Duncanogi,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether IBM La Gaude should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/IBM La Gaude .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,

This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

Hi, I replied to your posting on the file's talk page, but as this page has since been deleted so you may not have seen my reply. I referred to c:Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter#Art (copies of), which says:
  • If the original artwork remains in copyright a license from the artist is nearly always needed. Mere physical ownership of an original artwork such as a painting does not confer ownership of the copyright: that remains with the artist.
With few exceptions, photographs of artworks require permission from the photographer and from the creator of the artwork (or in this case from his estate). Verbcatcher (talk) 21:57, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you take a photograph of a poster then the copyright on your photo is the same as the copyright on the poster (at least it is in the US where Wikipedia is hosted). If the poster was made in the late 60s then it would likely still be under copyright, and that copyright would be held by IBM. I assume IBM hasn't authorised you to release the poster under a free licence. Hut 8.5 21:41, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest editing

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Duncanogi. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Tide table, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the COI guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. I have reverted your edit to Tide table relating to the QuickTide calculator. I suspected that you have a conflict of interest because of your claim to copyright in File:QuickTide 20th year 2019 2020.jpg. Bevin Boys

[edit]

Hello. I've had to revert your change to the Bevin Boys page. References need to be verifiable and 'Interview 29 August 2019 with ex-Bevin Boy Kenneth Jones' just isn't suitable I'm afraid.Obscurasky (talk) 20:42, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your message and all the work that you do. Please be so good as to revert your changes because I had already on 2 September sent fuller details of my Kenneth Jones interview to the Bristol Archives (they are so glad to receive WW2 information following the massive Nazi blitz devastation here), Smeaton Road, Bristol BS1 6XN. On receipt by me of the Archives Office response, I shall add this information in the Wikipedia footnotes.Duncanogi (talk) 09:43, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not being pedantic - as far as I'm aware citations such as yours simply aren't acceptable on Wikipedia, nor is original research allowed which appears to be the case here too. You will have noticed that I added a couple of reliable citations to that section, but I could not find one to support your claim that Bevin Boys received £240 per year plus education fees and it just isn't sufficient just to say in the citation that someone told you that's what happened - there needs to be a verifiable citation to support such claims. Obscurasky (talk) 15:43, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your note. I am completely confident that the gentleman Mr Jones (90-odd years old) did not lie about all this information. You will see that on 3 September at 19.05 I modified the text to " many Bevin Boys received" to make clear that far from all Bevin Boys received £240. You can refer now to the official Bristol City archive to determine this.

You may not be aware that in the UK there was until about ten years ago payment by the government of all university fees and a contribution towards living costs -- indeed I a 78-year-old had this paid by the government when I was at university 1960 to 1963.

Please reverse your changes.Duncanogi (talk) 10:30, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

University grants are not relevant to your point. Have you got a reference other than one mans recollection? Something other than a vauge its in the Bristol City archive. You should probably read WP:reliable sources and WP:verifiability. noq (talk) 10:48, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
And this; WP:original Obscurasky (talk) 18:54, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
In fact the grant to cover living expenses under the FETS scheme was means tested up to a maximum of £426, (the amount depended on your marital status, number of dependent children etc). I have modified the original sentence in the article and have provided a reference to reflect this information. I can find no source to back up a claim that the Bevin Boys were treated differently to the Forces veterans under the FETS scheme. Mertbiol (talk) 16:33, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Aurora Theatre Hong Kong moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Aurora Theatre Hong Kong, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please follow the prompts on the Articles for Creation template atop the page. ... discospinster talk 04:18, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Response. Thank you for your comments discospinster. Please rapidly reinstate the page. You are concerned (I suggest wrongly) with establishing publicly the sources of the information for the page. At age 79, I have had many, many years experience of establishing the Wikipedia sources of information. I have done so to support this worthy theatre company in Hong Kong that improves the Cantonese/English-language skills and political situation in these difficult HK times (I live in England) – for this I have fully and carefully done so in and for the page, fully satisfying your requests:

  1. Link from another page … see https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Culture_of_Hong_Kong#Theatres
  2. In the page to state the source of 80% of the page … www.auroratheatrehk.com
  3. In the page to state the source of 20% of the page Awards and credits … www.hkeld.com

Duncanogi (talk) 10:13, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As you have been asked to do previously, read WP:verifiability, WP:reliable sources, WP:significant coverage and WP:notability. The article has been moved to draftspace to allow the article to be worked on to meet those standards. As for your points above, 1) You adding a link in another article is not relevant. 2) the theatres own website is not significant coverage independent of the subject. 3) a website home page that does not mention the theatre is not a valid reference for anything - if it was the only reference needed anywhere would be www.google.com. Once yuo have made the required improvements, you can get the page reviewed independently and if properly done it will be moved back to main space. noq (talk) 11:09, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

With additional lengthy research I have now improved the Aurora Theatre Hong Kong item by including verification by 13 drama journalists' reviews of plays.Duncanogi (talk) 09:44, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:Bevin Boy Veteran badge.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Violation of the copyright on the design of the badge. This badge is issued by the UK government,[2] and it is unlikely that the uploader owns the copyright. The design too complex to be exempt from copyright in the UK under the threshold of originality rule, see c:COM:TOO UK.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Verbcatcher (talk) 05:57, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am confident that the British and other governments have encouraged and never disputed the Wikipedia inclusion of wartime medals. Please view the Wikipedia articles for instance of countries' supreme medals: the British medal Victoria Cross and the French medal Légion d'honneur. The 30,000 or so Bevin boys (teenage boys) were government-forced in wartime to do their wartime duty to mine coal for the armament factories.Duncanogi (talk) 07:18, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am reasonably confident of my ground. Most medals were established long enough ago for their designs to be out of copyright. The design of more modern medals such as the Queen's Volunteer Reserves Medal will be protected by copyright, and that article is illustrated by an image with a non-free media raionale (File:Qvrm.jpg). The circumstances of the Bevin boys do not affect the copyright position. For more information see c:Commons:Copyright rules by territory/United Kingdom. If you want to challenge my proposed deletion then you should delete the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice from the file page, as described above. We would then follow the Wikipedia:Files for discussion process. Alternatively, you could add a non-free use rationale to the file page, see Wikipedia:Non-free content – you might use File:Qvrm.jpg as a model for this. Verbcatcher (talk) 08:51, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Good faith, but cringe inducing nevertheless. Clearly the image is of public interest and used only to illustrate the organization's intended purposes in a way that words alone could not convey. It's highly unlikely that its use here contravenes Wikipedia policy or any country's copyright laws. Might I suggest you work positively to find a way of actually keeping the image, instead of working to remove it - which would be to the detriment of the article. Obscurasky (talk) 09:19, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I forgot to add that I scanned the neighbour's Bevin Boy's "badge". I little knew him and visited him a few weeks before he died (he was a teenager in WWII). He and his family were delighted with this. I suppose I have copyright of the "photo" (scan) but have given this to Wikipedia. Please keep it in Wikipedia for his family and the world.Duncanogi (talk) 09:41, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid all that's irrelevant. The question of copyright relates to ownership of the badge design, not the actual photograph. My point is that it would be better all-round if Verbcatcher approached the issue constructively. Obscurasky (talk) 10:08, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Obscurasky: as I wrote above, the file can be kept if a valid non-free use rationale is added. Verbcatcher (talk) 11:51, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As you suggest, and grateful if you please could modify the image to "valid non-free use rationale" as I have no experience of this.Duncanogi (talk) 12:56, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have converted the file to a 'fair use symbol' with a non-free rationale. I hope that I have done this correctly. I think that new fair use images are regularly patrolled, this could lead to my rationale being rejected. I have marked the FFD discussion as 'resolved'. Thank you. So is it ok to remove the tag under the photograph in the article?Obscurasky (talk) 17:11, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The FFD discussion remains open until it is closed by an administrator, and it is possible that the image will assessed as not qualifying for fair use. The notice where the image is used in Bevin Boy is not obligatory – I added it to alert other editors to the issue. I favour leaving the notice for a few days, but I won't object if someone else removes it. The notice will probably be removed automatically when the FFD is closed. Hello, Duncanogi. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "sandbox".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! JMHamo (talk) 09:03, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:RacingthePlanet Australia 2011.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:RacingthePlanet Australia 2011.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 00:19, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Image without license

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Open-air lawyer weddings in Hong Kong.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: Once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 11:01, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Personal images

[edit]

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a platform for showcasing your personal images. Additions like this, and this do absolutely nothing to enhance a reader's understanding of the topic, and are only related to the topic in the most tenuous of ways. I have reverted those additions. -- Whpq (talk) 14:21, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks. I do appreciate your concern, but I suggest that Wikipedia can be improved with a few attractive, less boring pictures: they must be relevant to the contents. Duncanogi (talk) 16:52, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is, those images were not particularly relevant to the content. -- Whpq (talk) 18:00, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I certainly do accept that some images can be far from relevant. But:

  • Grandfather clock -- My suspicion is that few Warry grandfather clocks have survived -- for instance, I added Warry to the list of British clock makers. Somebody I met many years ago (I am 80 now) felt reasonably confident that the wooden "top" in the photo (I know extremely little about grandfather clocks) is a Warry top removed from a clock. I thought this would make a good photo if it included a child.
  • Shoulder – I suggest the page also needs to have a picture of garment-covered shoulders, not just a bare shoulder and the inner parts of shoulders.
  • I would ask you to accept reinstatement of these.Duncanogi (talk) 19:04, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No. I completely disagree with the addition of those images. You are welcome to start a discussion on the talk pages of the articles as other editors may have other opinions. -- Whpq (talk) 19:16, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your position about this and your comments. There are a variety of views about most things. Many thanks again.Duncanogi (talk) 10:00, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As noted above, You were invited to start a discussion about adding the image if you disagreed and not just add it in again without discussion. I have reverted your image addition and made a note in the article talk page. Do not add it back again without gaining Consensus. -- Whpq (talk) 12:12, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I propose again that the subject Shoulder should include its 1% excellence and 99% its problems, as for Table , Clock etc etc. Duncanogi (talk) 12:48, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If my memory is correct, this file is identical or similar to File:Ivon Hitchens -Shade- oils 1936.jpg which was deleted for copyright concerns. Please do not re-upload deleted images, if you think a file was deleted incorrectly then you can request a deletion review. Verbcatcher (talk) 13:48, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:PetPeter Hines, resident engineer Ap Lei Chau bridge, Hong Kong 1978.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File source problem with File:QuickTide 20th year 2019 2020.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:QuickTide 20th year 2019 2020.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Peter Gordon Hines moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Peter Gordon Hines, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). This photo and information is there because I had access to it from my father Lawrence Ogilvie who had an amazing plant pathology career that included saving Bermuda's 1920s economy that unusually entirely depended on agricultural exports of early vegetables and tons of lily bulbs from 110 fields by ship to New York before Bermuda's modern internationally-connected banking, and modern immense Bermuda tourism access by aeroplanes.

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:36, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Svalbard 1987 British schoolboys camping and climbing.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Svalbard 1987 British schoolboys camping and climbing.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
