Voltol

Dear DoubleGrazer, thanks for your review, I'm a bit confused as all the sources are from the original GERMAN article about VOLTOL https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltol, I have not added one single thing to all the text, just translated it. I will review my source codes, cause maybe there is some problem with coding. Kind regards, Ogv (talk) 11:04, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

@Ogv: yes, I also discovered that German original; I've left a comment on the draft regarding that.
As for your point about the sources, each different language version of Wikipedia is a completely separate project with their own rules and requirements. What is acceptable on one version may not be acceptable on another. I think I'm right in saying that the English-language version has the strictest requirements in what comes to referencing and notability. It therefore often happens that when translating from another language version, the translation may not be accepted here unless the sources are improved. (And sometimes the sources cannot be improved, if better sources simply don't exist, but let's hope that isn't the case here.)
Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:09, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
@DoubleGrazingOK, thank you for your comments, will review the page over the weekend and save it again once I double-checked all this. Appreciate your effort. Kind regards Ogv (talk) 11:12, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

Now you have put the sandals on

It may be interesting for you to reflect on what has changed since they were issued. How does what you do here now differ from before? Are any relationships here changed? Do folk treat you differently in the way they approach you? All that sort of stuff ought to be really interesting 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 13:48, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

@Timtrent: not to sound over-dramatic, but it feels a bit like I've left my home town which I knew and where I was comfortable, and moved to the city where I know nothing, can't find my way around, and have to constantly be on my guard (and try not to look like the country bumpkin that I really am!). I double- and triple-check everything before carrying out any admin tasks to make sure I've got them right, and often just back off rather than risking a whoopsie. Even at AfC I find I'm more cautious than before, and therefore end up doing less.
So far I don't think I've poked anyone in the eye with my mop, but even so I'm half-expecting to get an ANI notice on my talk page at any moment. Maybe I'll learn to relax with time as I gain more confidence.
Other than that, I wouldn't say things have changed much. Thanks for asking. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:32, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
I had a feeling you might start as a stranger in a strange land. I think everyone does. The who recognise that thrive, those who do not recognise it make a pest of themselves.
It's a strange role that people arrive in knowing nothing, but with everything expected of them.
Never forget that the mop can stay in the cleaning cupboard unless needed. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 12:46, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
@Timtrent "It's a strange role that people arrive in knowing nothing, but with everything expected of them." This is so true. I thought something similar myself, how odd it is that you're given the key to the cleaning cupboard, and basically left to figure out on your own what to do with all the gear. If there is a training or mentoring scheme of some sort, I've not come across it (mind you, haven't looked, either); and if there isn't, then there probably ought to be.
And now I'm off for a sip of that bleach, it says it's lemon-flavoured! The brand has a cool 'Skull & Crossbones' logo, too. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:48, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
I think the mop's main use is for pushing the bucket across the floor, There's bleach? No-one ever said! I must apply forthwith, or maybe fifthwith. Is Mango Iced Tea flavour available? I think I amay be clean round the bend.
That there is no induction at all is both surprising and unsurprising. Can you imagine the fuss if someone tried to create one? We'd get five competing ones, and at least one creator would be permabanned. It just needs "Janet and John Learn to be Wikipedia Administrators" 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 14:09, 16 November 2024 (UTC)

Question on my declined Draft:BlobCat

Hey, sorry if this is a very basic question as I'm very new to this. I already kind of expected the article to be declined, but I want to know how I can fix that - yes, my main sources are the game developers' social media presences, but there isn't really any other way to track the development of the game over the years as this was their main outlet. Many thanks for your fast review! :) Echo4482 (talk) 16:34, 16 November 2024 (UTC)

Deletion review for Jairam Kumar Mahato

Sarim Wani has asked for a deletion review of Jairam Kumar Mahato. Because you speedily deleted the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review.

Should've notified you on the first pass, sorry; I only checked Hey man he's josh's talk page, and didn't think to look for a G4 that soon after the afd. —Cryptic 20:42, 17 November 2024 (UTC)

For everyone who has not heard my stance here it is in plain light
I am requesting a review of the deletion of the article "Jairam Kumar Mahato" based on new evidence and arguments not discussed in the original deletion discussion.
Jairam Kumar Mahato was responsible for launching a notable movement in Jharkhand, India. Specifically, his protests led to changes in the recognition of regional languages, where languages such as Bhojpuri, Magahi, and Angika were included in the list of regional languages for state-level examinations in 11 districts. He strongly advocated for promoting local languages and demanded that jobs in the state be reserved for Jharkhand natives, preventing individuals from other states from gaining these opportunities.
This qualifies him under Wikipedia's notability guideline for people as:
1. **Biography**: "The person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in a specific field."
2. **Politicians and Judges**: "Major local political figures who have received significant press coverage."
Additionally, he does not fall under "People notable for only one event," as his actions and media coverage span multiple related events (2 to be exact), thus meeting the threshold for separate documentation.

Please understand that this user stands under 2 notability fields and a wining of an election is not mandatory for the candidate to be listed on wiki that's why I understand zero things which are listed under this please tell me if I am not getting something which I have to get

Question from Realqueenb (02:57, 18 November 2024)

Hello! I am a freelance marketer; and I have three clients who want to be added to Wikipedia - how do I add their information? Thank you. --Realqueenb (talk) 02:57, 18 November 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Realqueenb: first, carefully read WP:PAID, which provides information on paid editing and how to manage your conflict of interest. Also, make the necessary paid-editing disclosure(s) as instructed there.
Then, and only then, you can start creating drafts on these subjects. You will find pretty much everything you need for that at WP:your first article.

Hello @SimonMüller87,
We normally require three secondary sources that clearly meet the WP:GNG standard. The Bild article is one. The ARD programme could be another, but when I click on the link I just get today's broadcast schedule. And we still need one more, or two more if the ARD one can't be made to work.

Hi there! Thank you so much for the feedback on my submission. I'm new to some of the editing and am struggling to figure out why my citations are showing up as in line links. When I go into the editor, each citation is showing as the long-form citation but, when opening in the READ mode, they're showing up as links. Forgive me if I am being REALLY DENSE here but I swear I'm inputting these in the right format but am not getting the right result. Any advice? I thank you for your time, patience and kindness. Just wanting to learn to do this right and am currently very confused.

Thank you. added by Jojohot1 (talk

Hi @Jojohot1: no problem, happy to help; it's luckily a very simple fix. The {{cite web}} template is the correct one to use, but it needs to be wrapped inside <ref> tags. So for example, if you're citing the BBC News website, the full citation would be
<ref>{{cite web |title=Home - BBC News |url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/news}}</ref>
That way it's treated as an inline citation rather than an inline external link, and instead of displaying the web page title there in the body text, it only shows a small superscript number, which refers to the numbered footnotes which will appear on the bottom of the page.
See if that works, and shout back if it doesn't. :) Best, --DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:29, 20 November 2024 (UTC)

Can I Use YouTube Music and Rate Your Music as a source in some scenarios?

Hey! I recently made a article about Take Me To The Beach, which you declined. You said that YouTube Music and Rate Your Music are not valid sources to use on your page. I'm just wondering if this applies to the ratings/reviews section. These are the only websites I can find ratings, and view counts for the song. Will remove it for the release date, but can I use it to show how many views the songs have had, and to show the star rating the song was given? This was on My Take Me To The Beach page. Thank you, and thanks for giving me feedback on the page.

The VGN company doesn't have any in-depth source of references at all!

If there are no in-depth source yet, can I just upload the page like that so some people or me can edit it later on when there are sources avaliable by then? (since the company was just founded and most of the infos are really scarce) Phone1366 (talk) 09:43, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

@Phone1366: in a word, no. If there aren't sufficient sources available, then the subject is by definition not notable enough to justify an article.
Besides, Wikipedia articles should mainly be composed by summarising what independent and reliable secondary sources have said about a subject. If you haven't been able to find such sources, then what is this draft based on? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:48, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
Based mostly on what I found in the internet. I think some of it was enough to justify as the source of the products, and I think that's already enough for it to be publish. Even though it's not that many, at least there are in-depth source about the product if you read it through. So should I just delete the things that are not in-depth and keep the one that is sufficient? Phone1366 (talk) 09:58, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
@Phone1366: I'm not quite sure what you're saying there, but if you're suggesting that this company's products are notable, then you may of course create drafts on them; however, notable products do not make the company notable (or vice versa), as notability is not inherited. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:06, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

Deleting review for CloudMounter

Hello, you've recently deleted the article I've added (Draft:CloudMounter). The reason of deleting is "G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion", but I can see that the same articles of other developers are listed and not deleted, Cyberduck for example.

Why? What is the difference between our page and their? Why are they allowed to post about their products and we are not?

Explain please, cause for now it looks not really good when Wiki allows one developer posting article about their app and deletes all other articles related to this app's competitors. Shouldn't Wiki be the place where people can find not only solution, but and alternative as well?

Thanks in advance. AlexAnnaTaylor (talk) 09:04, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

@AlexAnnaTaylor: thanks (I think) for your message, which raises a number of points:
  • I haven't deleted your draft, it is still at the location you linked to: Draft:CloudMounter. Quite the opposite, in fact: speedy deletion was requested by another editor, but I declined it, and instead moved the article from the main article space into the draft space. (You're welcome.)
  • Part of the reason why I moved it is that I have reason to believe that you (and at least one other editor involved in this) work for the company developing this software, and therefore should not have published the article in the first place. If I'm correct, you must make the mandatory paid-editing disclosure immediately. When I draftified your article, I also posted disclosure instructions on your talk page: User_talk:AlexAnnaTaylor#November_2024. Please make the disclosure as your very next edit.
  • As for any other articles that may exist out there, many of them were published by editors with sufficient permissions to publish directly, and/or pre-date our review processes; as such, they were not necessarily "allowed" or accepted by anyone, in any sense. Some of them no doubt have their share of problems, but given that there are nearly 7m articles in the English-language Wikipedia, and as this is almost entirely a volunteer-based project, nobody has simply got around to resolving every problem yet. In any case, comparing your article/draft to any existing one is futile; this is the so-called WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS argument which is a fallacy.
  • Finally, I don't know what exactly you're insinuating with your comments about deleting competitive articles etc., but I would advise you not to pursue that line of aspersions any further without solid evidence to back it up.
Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:55, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

Draft:University of Michigan Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Your comment seems to suggest that there is no circumstance in which the University of Michigan Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering could establish notability as a department. Would it help my case if I reduced the content to only include information on the page that's:

A few other CEE departments/schools are featured on this platform and if thats the case they should also be prohibited from this platform. I don't agree with that position but I don't see how they have established notability when my article has not.

University of Illinois Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Imperial College London

NUST School of Civil and Environmental Engineering Mhinawi (talk) 16:05, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Mhinawi: I'm not suggesting that this department couldn't be proven notable under any circumstances, only that the sources cited at the time of my review fell far short of what is required. I then also made the point that this is not at all unusual, given that the coverage individual departments etc. typically receive in independent media is at best limited.
As for your question about reducing the draft content to that which comes from reliable, independent secondary sources, that is a very good idea indeed. In fact, that is precisely how Wikipedia articles should be composed, by summarising what such sources have said, and not much more than that. Of course, that in itself doesn't help establish notability, because if the sources thus used still don't satisfy WP:ORG, then we're no closer to what is required for acceptance.
Finally, regarding your point about other comparable departments which have Wikipedia articles, I will shamelessly copypaste my reply to an earlier, similar question on this page (lazy as I am):
As for any other articles that may exist out there, many of them were published by editors with sufficient permissions to publish directly, and/or pre-date our review processes; as such, they were not necessarily "allowed" or accepted by anyone, in any sense.

JarrahTree 07:21, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
@JarrahTree: okay, thanks for linking to the draft, I'd forgotten I had reviewed it. Although even now, when you say you would have "re-instated" it, I'm wondering if there's a backstory to this that I'm missing, but if so, I trust you'll unpack it for me.
Courteous as it was of you to run this by me, you hardly need my approval to publish the article, if you so wish; you publishing it yourself wouldn't be out of process at all. Or if you specifically want AfC to take a view on it, please resubmit it (or ask the original author to), that way it'll go into the pending pool per usual practice.
Cheers, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:43, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply, I am very wary of draft review processes, as some editors wear their logs like military medals on their chests, and having reviewed articles in the past where one could see the obvious from the grey area ones.
