Non-free image

Hi, I saw that you uploaded a non-free flag to Wikipedia, and I’m wondering how do you upload one of those? I also want to know how to upload a non-free seal/Coat of Arms. Thanks CubanoBoi (talk) 00:27, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

@CubanoBoi It's actually quiet easy to do, just a little time consuming. To answer your first question, all logos, flags, and seals can be uploaded under a "Logo" non free license. Here are a few steps to upload one.

1. Find an image you want to upload (lets say it's a flag or seal just to make it easier)
2. You can upload them to Wikipedia in one of two ways. A. Page in question (edit mode)-insert-images and media-upload-click on the text "the upload page on Wikipedia." B. Any page (left bar)-contribute-Upload file-Upload a non-free file.
3. Insert picture into "Choose file" section.
4. Name your file something and then choose "Logo" in "Licensing" (Logo should work for most of the things you want to upload)
5. Upload this template into the "summary" section. (You can make your own template but I highly recommend using this if you want to upload lots of images)
6. You must enter the page you will use it in and the "use" (I usually choose Infobox but you can use other tags), you do not need to add anything to "purpose" if you have something in the "use" box.
7. The rest are optional to fill in, I recommend you add the government website to the template and add a direct link to where you got the image from in the "Source" section. But it's your choice.
8. When you ready, upload and add to the page.

It may be confusing at first, but it gets better as you upload more. Template:Non-free use rationale logo can help with steps 5-7 but feel free to ask for help on the village pump or me if you need it. If you would like, you can upload an image and send the link to me and I can check it to see if it's all good (Here is a file I uploaded if this helps). I hope this helped, have a great day! Yeah, I would recommend using a computer to do this. I have never tried to upload an image on mobile so I can't conform that. Also, forgot to mention, when you upload an image, don't be worried if a bot resizes the image and warns about it being deleted in 7 days. That's standard procedure on WP, if a warning like the one above shows up on your talk page, it usually means the image got removed, most of the time by accident like this time. I would recommend changing two things. You don't need to say "no" in the "other information" section, depending on the template you use, it will just autofill with text or not be shown if left blank. I would also recommend adding the website of Bauta in the "Author or copyright owner" section. Other than that, I think that is enough rationale to have for a non-free image. It doesn't hurt to get a second opinion about topics like this but in my eyes, it looks good. One note about copyright, uploading non-free images like this is okay on English Wikipedia but might not be ok on other languages WP due to some countries not having as protective fair use laws. @CubanoBoi If you want to allow others to use it, you can do two things. You can simply change the copyright tag on the file page to a Public domain tag, but I would recommend to delete the original image using Db-author (with brackets) and then upload the image to commons under a Pubic domain tag. @CubanoBoi I would say then to just leave it be if it can't be uploaded under Public Domain in Cuba. This is the safest bet as Commons is has very tough copyright rules and will delete a file for the smallest of reasons. I do not know a lot about copyright laws in Cuba but looking at a couple parts of the law, I would not recommend trying to upload them under Public Domain. Unless you know who made it, the creators could still be alive or died earlier than 50 years ago. @CubanoBoi The broad term means that something that is permanently copyrighted or does not have an expiration date.
