Question
How do you uploaded video footage to Wikipedia? Jonas Vinther • (speak to me!) 21:26, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
- I have never done it. Here are some instructions from the Commons: commons:Commons:Video -- Diannaa (talk) 22:56, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
- Apparently you have to install Firefogg and a bunch of other stuff, which I don't feel like doing atm. But no worries, click here and tell me what you think. :) Jonas Vinther • (speak to me!) 23:50, 2 April 2015 (UTC)

Why did you delete this photo?
Hello,
Why did you delete the photo uploaded at: File:Iranian manned spaceship1.jpg ? The file had license set (belongs to me).
You did not even bother to mention a reason or contact me. This is irresponsible and unacceptable behavior. Sarmadys (talk) 15:38, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Sarmadys. Sorry you were not notified that the photo had been nominated for deletion. This should have been done by the person who nominated it. It was deleted because it did not have any source information. The photo appeared on this webpage on February 17, 2015, and it states there that the photographer was Erfan Khoshkhoo. If you are the copyright holder of this image and wish to release it to Wikipedia under license, please follow the instructions at WP:consent. -- Diannaa (talk) 15:52, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

UTRS Unblock Request
Hello, I'm reviewing a request on UTRS (#13483) regarding a username block for yourfilthaiguy (talk · contribs). Would you be able to provide any additional information for this block? Nakon 22:15, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Nakon. The username was reported by DeltaQuadBot on March 16 at WP:UAA as a possibly offensive username. My feeling was that the username would likely to be offensive to Thai people, hence the block. There's one edit in the edit filter, but it's the same as the edit that's visible in the contribs. Hope this helps. -- Diannaa (talk) 02:34, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

User page update
I noticed your user page now says you're focusing on "maintenance of our image collection and copyright clean-up". Does this mean you're no longer working to bring Nazi Germany-related articles to GA-status? Jonas Vinther • (speak to me!) 20:17, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
- I will be doing some of that too. The main thing is that while actual writing of articles is a hugely important contribution and the thing I look back on with the most pride, right now I feel I have to focus mostly on admin tasks because there's so few people doing that. However, the new Goebbels should be out at the beginning of May and we will be getting started on that soon after it arrives. -- Diannaa (talk) 21:33, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
- I'm sure admin tasks are just as important and appreciated as writing articles are, I'd just miss collaborating with you. On another issue, you may or may not have noticed me and Kierzek have been working on a new article in my sandbox. We've not decided on a title yet, but the article details Hitler's bodyguards and overall security structure. Kierzek has already done some ce's, but if you also wish to do so please do. :) Jonas Vinther • (speak to me!) 22:51, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

Deletion process
Hi Di, can you tell me what kind of deletion process I can use on this 2015 Batman Cup page?, and what can I do when an user removes the [tag? Should I send it to a deletion discussion? Kr.Willy Weazley 15:59, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
- There's two different questions here.
- – For the Batman Cup page, the first thing I would do is go to the related notability guideline. There's nothing on tennis tournaments at Wikipedia:Notability (sports), so I would look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Tennis/Article guidelines#Notability and see if the tournament is deemed notable by the related wikiproject. Non-notable events qualify for A7 speedy deletion. Also, I would ask the user where he got the information. Seems he must have gotten these bare-bones facts from somewhere; he needs to add that source to the article right from creation. Note that the user is creating a whole series of articles on this tournament, so I would visit his talk page first with my concerns if I were you.
- – Second question: Users should not be removing speedy deletion tags from articles that have created themselves. I have restored the tag, and placed a note on the user's talk page. -- Diannaa (talk) 16:16, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

Where in our policies is having an IP-based username disallowed? This is new to me. --jpgordon::==( o ) 06:36, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
- That surprised me as well, .. BUT - "Usernames which resemble IP addresses (as these are expected to designate non-logged-in users), " [1]. I don't agree with it, but not the first time that's happened either. (me disagreeing with something on wiki that is) — Ched : ? 11:42, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, but the name in question does not "resemble" an IP address; I know of no IP addresses that contain the letters IP or any dashes. Further, the reason given for the block is that a username that contains an IP address "can be used to locate you geographically", and that's just silly, given that we allow users to edit with IP addresses, and that we don't prohibit usernames such as "Josh in Kernville", which is far more specific than my IP address would ever be. --jpgordon::==( o ) 14:48, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
- OK. I just wasn't sure if you were aware of that part I quoted. — Ched : ? 17:54, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
- I wasn't, actually. --jpgordon::==( o ) 05:19, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
- The name contains an actual IP address, and therefore violates the policy in my opinion. I added the part about locating the editor geographically, because judging by the overlap of topics edited, it looks like it's the same person who was editing from that IP. This was added for information only, as the user might not be aware of it. -- Diannaa (talk) 18:38, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
- The geographic location thing is kind of nonsensical - that's not why we have a policy against IP-esque usernames at all. There is a reason for it however, in that Wikipedia users are used to IP addresses referring to logged out editors. Whilst they don't have the IP prefix that this username does, it's no stretch of the imagination to envisage an inexperienced user regarding the username as a logged out editor. Whether that's actually a problem or not is another matter, but at the end of the day, the community has chosen to implement a rule that says your username here can't resemble an IP address. Yunshui 雲水 18:42, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
- I should have added it as a separate note, and not included it in the block notice, since it does not actually form part of the reason for the block. I apologise for my mistake. -- Diannaa (talk) 18:47, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Block messages
Hi Diannaa. Just a quick note FYI - when you blocked AmyMeredithPoehler recently, you used an amended version of the standard {{uw-ublock}}
template, but we actually have a specific template for usernames which match the names of famous people: {{Uw-ublock-famous}}
. It's a bit more detailed and has some useful information in the event that the user genuinely is a famous person. If you come across such users in the future (though to be honest, we don't see them very often), you might find it useful. All the best, Yunshui 雲水 12:29, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi. You may remember me as the editor who brought the paid editor Greatink to the community's attention. [2] This wound up with you blocking Greatink and the article Whitehall Interiors NYC being AfD'd into a redirect to the article Goldstein, Hill & West Architects. You may also recall that I mentioned that I had previously heavily edited the GWHA article for promotionalism.
You may notice that the GHWA article is a red link. This is because an editor named User:Deb, who is an admin, just deleted it. Here's the sequence of events:
1.Deb removed the entire section which describes the three founders of the firm. (I can't give you a link, obviously, because the article is deleted) This was maybe a day or two ago. Her edit summary said that the whole section was promotional.
2. I reverted her, with an edit summary which said something to the effect that there may be some promotional stuff still there, but she should remove it and not the whole section
3. Moments ago, she reverted me. I cannot recall what her edit summary said.
4. I reverted her and chastised her as an admin edit-warring instead of discussing.
5. I went to the talk page and composed a comment to the effect that she should do some more surgical editing instead of deleting the whole section, which was about the three people who founded the firm. I may have missed some stuff, but there's no way it was all promotional.
6. When I went to post the comment, I found that the article had been deleted.
7. Deb posted a note on my talk page which says "Since you've declined to remove the highly promotional content from the article, I've had no option but to delete it. Please don't recreate it without addressing the issue."
Now, I think this is lousy behavior for an admin. Even if I'm wrong and that section of the article was "highly promotional" (which it certainly wasn't}, the subject has been vetted a number of times by highly experienced editors who determined it to be a notable firm. I don't understand why an admin would simply delete an article on a whim, or because they were vexed at one editor, instead of taking one of the obvious routes towards getting it deleted: either put a speedy delete tag on it or send it to AfD. What she did seems to me like an abuse of her authority. She could have blocked me for promotonal editing, which would have been wrong as well, but at least wouldn't have deleted an article without any process whatsoever.
So, I'm here because I don't know exactly what to do. I'm going to post a link to this comment on her talk page, and hope that perhaps this can be resolved in that way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Beyond My Ken (talk • contribs) 03:54, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
- So, Diannaa, what exactly are the full facts you think I'm not in possession of? Deb (talk) 07:59, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
- You're mistaken, Diannaa did not post the above comment, I did. I merely forgot to sign in. BMK (talk) 08:02, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
- Let's put it another way: What policy supports your deleting an article because you didn't like the editing of one person? What did you not send an article which has a notable subject to AfD instead of deleting it becuse you didn't agree with the content on one section? Why didn't you take my comment under advisement and take out parts of the section which you thought were promptional, or discuss the section on the talk page, as required by BRD? BMK (talk) 08:07, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
- The facts are this: I am not a promotional editor, I'm not a paid editor, I'm not connected with the company, I'm a long term editor who's been here almost 11 years and has more than 150K edits. When I said that the entire section was not promotional, that was my evaluation as an experienced, neutral editor, not someone's shill. OK, maybe I'm wrong, maybe you're right. but that's what talk pages are for -- but you can't talk if the article is deleted, and articles should not be deleted on the basis that you just did "I had no choice but to delete the article" because I disagreed with you, before we even had a chance to start a real discussion. BMK (talk) 08:12, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
- "Why didn't you take my comment under advisement and take out parts of the section?" That's exactly what I did, believing this to be preferable to deletion. I don't know who wrote it in the first place, nor do I care whether they were paid or not. The whole section was highly promotional. Unfortunately, you chose to restore the promotional content - twice - leaving me no option. Having said that, I'll be quite happy for you to consult another admin who can look at the relevant section and give a second opinion as to whether it was promotional in tone. Deb (talk) 08:18, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
- Dianna, would you please take a look at the founders' section of the deleted article and determine if, in your opinion, the section was "highly promotional" to the extent that it required the article to be deleted without discussion? Thanks. BMK (talk) 08:23, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
- I'm also note for the record that Deb deleted the article under "G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion: Editor has refused to remove the promotional content". BMK (talk) 08:27, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
- The disputed content is under the header "Partners" and gives a one-paragraph bio of each of three co-founders, stating their work experience, important collaborations, and important projects. My opinion: I don't think it's necessary content but it's not wildly promotional either. The article has existed for 4 years and the paragraphs about the partners were added in October 2014. @Deb:, I think you should restore the article and take it to AFD instead. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:42, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

Diannaa, thank you for your evaluation. @Deb: Considering Diannaa's opinion, could you see your way clear to un-deleting the article and sending it to AfD, so that the community can decide on the subject's notability? With great frequency, an AfD nmination also provokes editing which takes care of the perceived faults of the article, such as promotionalism. BMK (talk) 15:20, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
- The problem, Diannaa, is that I never had any wish to delete the article. I deleted it because BMK kept reverting me each time I removed the promotional content. All three co-founders are already mentioned in the introduction. The only reason to include their CV in a separate paragraph is to promote them as individuals. Why not just make their names links to articles? I already know the answer. It's because none of them is notable enough to have an article of their own. I would have been quite prepared to restore the article with a reworded section, but BMK refuses to consider this. However, since you have given your opinion that the section is not promotional, I will restore it anyway and it can sit there forever as an example of a badly-written article. - @Deb: Just to set the record straight, I never "refused" to do anything. My first edit summary said "edit, don;t delete in total" - I think it's clear that I am saying to you, the person who deleted the section as promotional, that you should edit the section to reduce the promotionalism, not delete the whole darn thing. My second edit summary said, in part, "No, it is NOT "all" promotional material," a clear indication that I was open to the possibility that there could be some promotional material still left after my reduction. Further, if you hadn't deleted the article two minutes later while I was drafting a talk page comment but before I had the chance to post it, you would have learned that I was suggesting a more "surgical" approach to reducing any promotionalism which might be in the article, and that I was not "refusing" to edit it in any way, shape, or form. You didn't find that out, though, because you jumped the gun and deleted the article instead of discussing it on the talk page, which even admins are required to do when their edits are questioned by other editors, even lowly non-admins such as myself. SPI
Hi Diannaa, I couldn't help with this earlier in the week, and now am basically on my way out and dropping off the few diffs I've managed to cull for you. I'd noticed the SeeSpotRun acct a while ago and see a lot of overlap. An edit summary search on "trivia" for a couple of accts might be helpful. I ran these: [3], [4], [5]. Here is another diff that might be helpful: [6]. I've published an incomplete table I made a while ago in a sandbox; it never got finished because going through those accts is tough, and I didn't want to be told what essentially I got told today. The best thing to do is to look at the text and maybe find someone (other than me) who can recognize the writing. If you have questions ping me or stop by my page; I'll check in every so often. Victoria (tk) 23:24, 12 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Victoria. Thanks for taking the time to dig out some more similarities. Thanks also to User:OccultZone, who found some similarities in writing style. By the way Victoria, you know those pictures on your userpage? They always make me laugh, because where I live, you would have to take the "February" picture and use it for November, December, January, February and March. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:30, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Help!
I have two editors who are edit-warring on the WRVQ by adding and readding a mass of original research with zero references or sources. I have tried to explain what they are doing wrong. But I am getting the usual "this is all correct" and "leave it alone" responses.
What they are adding is ripe with original research, PEACOCK terms, non-notable content, and of course zero references. Can you help? - Neutralhomer • Talk • 13:49, 13 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi there Neutralhomer. His use of the expression "our entire data" leads me to believe he has a conflict of interest. I've protected the page for a week and placed a note on the editor's talk page. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:04, 13 April 2015 (UTC)
- The IP user who posted to my talk page said he was a former employee there, so you are probably right and "Bill" is/was one as well. Hopefully they find a way to add the information in a correct manner as alot of it could be useful with the non-notable info taken out and sources added. Thanks again for your help. :) - Neutralhomer • Talk • 19:54, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Nuremberg Laws
The article Nuremberg Laws you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Nuremberg Laws for things which need to be addressed. Old/new text
Hi Diannaa, I wrote a new text about Combis (you deleted it). Can you look at this version, User:Integrator 30/sandbox tell me if it's all right (I tried to include as many references to show the importance of the company) and help with restoring photo of Combis logo? I sent a statement of authorship (Permission information for Combis logo) on 'permissions-commons@wikimedia.org' but I didn't get any feedback.--Integrator 30 (talk) 10:48, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- The article is okay now from a copyright point of view. You should tone down the promotional language and find independent sources (other than the company's own website) for most of the material, especially their awards. The logo can be re-added if and when the article is accepted for publication; non-free content is not permitted in drafts. -- Diannaa (talk) 18:51, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi Diannaa, you reverted my edit of 4.5 millions victims, saying it was Soviet estimates. Could you please let me know where did you get thin information? I was basing on 1947 UN document, which described British trial, on which Bruno Tesch was convicted and executed. The prosecutors weren't soviets and the documents have nothing to do with Soviet authorities. Thank you Arthistorian1977 (talk) 13:51, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- The information on the number of victims killed using Zyklon B comes from Hayes, Peter (2004). From Cooperation to Complicity: Degussa in the Third Reich, page 2, page 272. 4.5 million people were not killed at Auschwitz; that number was greatly exaggerated by the Soviets for their own propaganda purposes. Source for this information is Steinbacher, Sybille (2005) [2004]. Auschwitz: A History, pp. 132–133. For information on the various estimates of the number of deaths at Auschwitz, please see Auschwitz concentration camp#Death toll. Our article on Auschwitz is a Good Article, re-written with sources thoroughly checked by myself and retired user Khazar2 in the summer of 2013. -- Diannaa (talk) 18:38, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- I don't have a doubt it's a good article. The question is what to do with British Trial document showing bigger number. Again, this is not Soviet Document, but official War Criminal Trial, which was prosecuted by British Authorities. I would suggest that we can add disambiguation statement, showing that by some sources number is million and by other sources is up to 4.5 millions. In this case we can be truly encyclopedical, since it's source again source. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 20:03, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- I have added it as an explanatory note. -- Diannaa (talk) 20:21, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you, but why do you insist on "Soviet", while I provided a reference from British Trial? How it's related to Soviet Authorities? Arthistorian1977 (talk) 20:54, 15 April 2015 (UTC)
- That's where the prosecution got their incorrect information: from the initial Soviet report, which gave exaggerated data, for propaganda reasons. -- Diannaa (talk) 21:49, 15 April 2015 (UTC)

Reluctant request
Hi, Diannaa! You recently revdeleted Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy at my request (thank you!). The COI editor, Lauralibal, has had at least four copyright warnings, and some fairly extensive explanation of what to do and to not do. I told her both in an edit summary and on her talk page that I'd ask for her to be blocked if she added more copyvio; she did (I assume all of it, but have only verified that part came from here). So here I am, asking. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 02:33, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
Diannaa, I reverted your latest change because I was concerned that this is a part of a pattern that takes articles done in one referencing style and changes them. Check back on the history of this article c. 2012 and there was not a reason to change from one style to another. This is also not the first time you have done this. I have bit my tongue at the changes to the V-1 article, but I do need to make a protest and this is it. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 13:17, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
- @Bzuk: There was no consistent style of citation on the Dunkirk article before I started working on it. It contained book cites with and without citation templates, web cites with and without citation templates, dead links, and bare urls. The article looked abandoned and untended to be honest, so I saw no reason to ask for permission before commencing improvements. It's not my intention to spend my free time edit warring over citation templates; in fact that kind of activity spoils my enjoyment of Wikipedia. For the sake of a quiet life, I have removed the article from my watch-list. By the way, I have never edited the V-1 article, so I have no idea why you would hold that against me. -- Diannaa (talk) 01:39, 20 April 2015 (UTC).
I should have mentioned that my tirade/rant/hissy fit was not entirely directed at you but at editors in general who do go about changing articles for style rather than content. Take this as the addled tale of a sick person (really- a ferocious cough and cold) as I also have taken the article off my watch list just like the other article to which I refer, and should have been more clear in stating it wasn't necessarily you that had edited the V-1 article. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 02:28, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hey Mr Zuk. Thanks for stopping by. Sorry to hear you have been ill. You are correct that this is not the first article I have converted to sfn templates, and it's not my first rodeo as far as citation brouhahas are concerned (see Talk:Sean Combs/Archive 1 for a classic example). Normally on articles that have an active corps of editors, or featured articles, I would post on the talk page to be sure people have the opportunity to comment before the work starts (example, example). I didn't do that with Dunkirk, because like I said it appeared that no one was minding the store there, and for that I apologise. My intention there was to do a total re-write of the article, so I chose the citation style with which I am most comfortable. Sfn templates are super easy to use for articles where most of the sources are books. I just make a list on a scrap of paper of the author names and publication years (for Auschwitz concentration camp for example, I would jot down Longerich|2010; Evans|2005; Rees|2005, etc) and then I'm ready to quickly plug my cites into the article, as all I have to do is add the page number. Anyway, life is too short and editors in too short supply for us to be bickering about this stuff any more, imo. -- Diannaa (talk) 02:54, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Does Wikipedia has some kind of ... back up drive or system? I mean, what if the Wikipedia servers crashed and every single article was lost! Perhaps I'm overthinking this, but if you do know something, I'd be very happy to know about it. Cheers, Jonas Vinther • (speak to me!) 14:49, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
- I do worry about the end of days, with no electricity, how would our work be accessed? But barring that scenario, there's no reason to worry, the people in charge would do backups daily or even more frequently, and store them in a different physical location. For our servers at work, the entire library catalogue is backed up nightly on a separate hard drive, which is taken home by the IT department manager. A second copy is stored at a second off-site location. This is a basic precaution that all corporations do, so as to ensure a quick recovery in the event of a disaster. In the case of Wikipedia, it's possible for anybody to download a copy of the entire encyclopedia by visiting Wikipedia:Database download. Caution: file is large. -- Diannaa (talk) 18:57, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

- Yeah, that is a good idea; in fact it's recommended. I am super busy, so I hope you have the time select some wikiprojects and do the notifications. Make sure your wording is totally neutral; for example: "Hi, I would like to notify the wikiproject that there's currently an RFC underway at Talk:Meghan Trainor#RFC: Describing Trainor as to how to describe the talents of Meghan Trainor. Yours, etc." Please add a list of your notifications to the RFC section so that everything is transparent. Meat article
Diannaa, I just saw this. While I understand why you stated that the IP's edits were not WP:Vandalism, the IP was engaging in WP:Disruptive editing. That is why I called the edits WP:Disruptive editing. And it can be difficult to communicate with an unregistered Wikipedia editor who does not have a stable IP address. That person was hopping from IP to IP. That stated, at least the IP has stopped and the article is stable once again. Flyer22 (talk) 07:06, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing this -- it's so strange to see practically the entire history of an article rev-del'd or oversighted or whatever you did. BMK (talk) 23:29, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Damh the Bard - Contesting speedy deletion
Damh the Bard has had his Wikipedia page deleted by you. He does not know how to restore it or why it was removed.
"Looks like somebody has created a Wikipedia page for me but they are contesting it. Any of you lovely people who follow my page do the Wikipedia thing and can add anything that might help them keep the article? Apparently I can't, or shouldn't edit it myself... I have no idea how this Wikipedia thing works tbh.
I've read the reasons A7 and G12. That makes no sense. A7 Means no importance. His music is amazing and loved world wide by the Pagan community. His music is of great importance. G12 States that copyright wasn't stated properly and that the page should only be deleted if it is completely corrupted and there was no accurate info to salvage. I have not seen the page myself since you have deleted it, but I doubt there was NOTHING worth reading there. Alicorn700 (talk) 01:43, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
- The page was deleted for two reasons: notability, and as a copyright violation. All of the content was copied from https://soundcloud.com/damhthebard, which does not have a license compatible with Wikipedia. A7 does not mean "no importance"; it means the subject of the article does not meet the Wikipedia notability requirements at this time. For musicians, the notability requirements are listed at WP:BAND. At least three sources (magazines, books, reliable websites, etc) with in-depth coverage (not just trivial mentions) of the subject of the article are recommended to establish notability for Wikipedia purposes. - Prose you find online or in books is almost always copyright, and cannot be copied here; it's against the law to do so. All prose must be written in your own words. There's more information about copyrights and how it applies to Wikipedia at Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright. Copyright law and its application are complex matters, and you should not edit any more until you have taken the time to read and understand our copyright policies. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:19, 27 April 2015 (UTC)

Proposal to move to dated pending and received categories
Hi Diannaa, I am sending you this message because you are one of the admins, OTRS volunteers, or other editors who regularly deals with image issues. I would like to propose that we move to monthly {{OTRS pending}} and {{OTRS received}} categories and that we have a bot help out with automatically tagging images for deletion where the tag has been in place longer than the current {{OTRS backlog}}. The purpose of this exercise is twofold: (1) it reduces potential duplication of effort in checking on images and (2) it prevents images for which we do not receive appropriate permission from sitting around longer than need be. My idea is at Wikipedia:OTRS_noticeboard#Proposal to move to dated pending and received categories and I would welcome your input. Thanks, --B (talk) 12:47, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
Copyright Issue on Claude Fredericks Bio
Dear Diannaa, Last year you properly deleted material from the Claude Fredericks bio page that had been used without an express copyright license. The license has now been granted and I would appreciate it if you could confirm that it is now acceptable to draw material from the licensed source. Please see this talk page for details: Talk:Claude_Fredericks
Additionally, the Claude Fredericks page was flagged as having been edited by someone with a conflict of interest. I have indeed taken an interest in the life and work of Mr. Fredericks but I don't believe that I have a conflict of interest as described atWikipedia:Conflict_of_interest After receiving an unsolicited review copy I wrote two articles about the Fredericks Journal over a five-year period in the Gay & Lesbian Review / Worldwide. I have no personal relationship with Mr. Fredericks (who died in 2013); in fact never even met him in person, though I did correspond with him and spoke a few times on the phone. I have no financial interest in any of the publications or affairs of Mr. Fredericks, or of the Claude Fredericks Foundation. I would appreciate your comment on the appropriateness of my editing this page. Robert Mack Mergy (talk) 15:11, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Deleted photo Clearwater River Horseshoe.jpg
Hi - I uploaded this photo to the article Clearwater River (British Columbia) on April 18. I've already done a lot of editing and additions to this article. I credited the photographer, Fritz Schaer, a friend of mine. Soon after, I got a message that an email from him showing permission was required. He sent me that permission. The instructions said "if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org." So I did that on April 21 and on April 24 you deleted the photo with an explanation "No evidence of permission for more than 7 days." What did I do wrong? Was Fritz' permission email not sufficient? Thanks. Roland Neave (talk) 03:44, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Mr Neave. There was no indication on the file that a permission email had been sent, so there was no way for me to know. I am not a member of the OTRS team and do not have access to their email. I have restored the file and tagged it {{OTRS pending}}. Hopefully an OTRS team member will be able to locate the email and get the permission sorted out. They are experiencing severe backlogs, so this may take a while. Sorry it's all so complicated. -- Diannaa (talk) 05:07, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

Banff National Park
Hello. Banff National Park is likely to go to FAR soon I suspect. I see you live in Alberta and was wondering if you might be interested in assisting on helping maintainand improve the article so it retains its FA level. If not I surely understand as I am very time limited and busy already with another article I worked on long ago and trying to slowly update it so it doesn't get delisted. I'm going to also contact the primary editor on that article but she has been very sidetracked as well. Anyhoo...if you are interested, its one of the most beautiful places on Earth I think and the first national park in Canada so I just thought I would drop you a line on the matter. Best wishes.--MONGO 20:18, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hi MONGO and thanks for stopping by. Such a worthy project. I love Banff. I spent some time in 2009 and 2011 visiting and photographing some of the historic buildings on the Banff historical walking tour. Some of the resulting images are available at my unfinished project User:Diannaa/Banff historic buildings. I have a book about the park (Banff: Canada's First National Park by Eleanor G. Luxton) and will try to make time to source some of the content in the history section. -- Diannaa (talk) 20:36, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
- I do not know what the urgency is, probably low. I do know if we do something and can show some updating is going on, the article will avoid FAR. My main contributions were to the geography and glaciers sections and will work on that as I can, and if Aude is not available, also work on other sections as well. Thank you!--MONGO 20:54, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

- The most critical thing will be to support every potentially questionable detail with a reliable reference. Out of respect for the legal rights of the copyright holder, we can't take your word for it that you already have permission to copy it here. Please have the copyright holder provide us with permission, using the instructions at WP:Consent. -- Diannaa (talk) 17:15, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Now we are uploading the edited message and hope it will not conflict as like before we maintained the same with you. Thank you Regards Secretary
- I checked the version of the article that was deleted this morning, and it was copied from the web pages http://ena-news.com/?page_id=2205 and http://ena-news.com/?page_id=1981, which both have a notice at the bottom that states: "© 2015 Copyright Eastern News Agency All Rights reserved". Let me explain it to you again: For copyright reasons, we can't reproduce copyright material that has appeared elsewhere online without the express written permission of the copyright holder, and a release under a CC-By-SA 3.0 or other compatible license. This safeguard is intended to protect the rights of copyright holders. Providing permission on the talk page of the administrator who deleted the article is not adequate from a legal standpoint, as I have no way of knowing whether or not you are legally able to release this material to Wikipedia under license. The permission has to come directly from the copyright holder, and has to be sent to the OTRS team via email, from an email address associated with the copyright holder. Instructions as to how to do this are provided at WP:consent. There's additional information on donating copyright material at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The organization will also have to meet our notability requirements, which are listed at Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). Also, the article has to be worded in an encyclopedic fashion, and not like an advertisement; it was already deleted once for this reason. -- Diannaa (talk) 17:35, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

- I also already have at home a copy of Manvell and Fraenkel (originally published 1960). These older books are fine for details on the early life. I can get more of the older books (1973 through 1994) if we need more sources, but my experience has been that for biographies, three solid book sources are enough for GA. -- Diannaa (talk) 02:19, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

- I now have a copy of Longerich in hand. The book by Thacker might be useful too. Hopefully it will arrive soon. The lack of citations is quite shocking (when examining things that on first glance appear to be citations, in several instances there's only more unsourced prose). I think we should go with a mostly chronological article, with perhaps a section on antisemitism and the Holocaust at the end. -- Diannaa (talk) 21:13, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

So confused
I was reading about the Nepal earthquake and talk page and saw a very constructive comment. I was going to reply to that person but see you have blocked the user. I sort of see your reason because the name has the word poop.
However, I voted in a Afd and a non administrator was seeing that he was the only keep vote so he thought of a made up excuse to remove my comments, saying that afd was not a vote and I put it in the wrong place. I thought that removing comments and a afd vote will result in a block but another admin isn't alarmed by this removing of votes.
I ask you to block Davie2010. If you do not, I will assume that occasional, not daily, removal of someone's afd vote is acceptable behavior that will not result in a block. I hope this isn't true.
Thank you in advance for blocking Davie2010. That helps wikipedia by preventing disruption and preventing copycats from disrupting wikipedia.

- Hi Deepavali 2014. I see by your contribs that you have been asking numerous admins (at least four) to block Davey2010 for the last three days for removing your AFD vote. He has already offered an explanation for that action at your talk page. I don't think what he did calls for a block, and neither do any of the other admins you asked. What you are doing by asking multiple admins to take action against a user is called admin shopping, and is considered disruptive. Please find a way to contribute productively, or your career here could be very short. -- Diannaa (talk) 03:19, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
- I've needed to block this editor for disruptive editing and further admin shopping. Recommending an indefinite block with a six month offer if this continues. Normally editors update the leaderboard themselves; it makes thing easier for the coordinators when it comes time to hand out the barnstars. Best, -- Diannaa (talk) 18:39, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
- So, I can put totals in there, and I may need help on determining when an article is acutally "done". Thanks for your help :) InfernusIsHiding-Talk 18:42, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
So, is it only the "longest article" part that has only 1 entry? Like, does everything I have done apply to all of the parts or once I add my standings, everything locks down for me. (I really like the look of that golden award :D) InfernusIsHiding-Talk 18:52, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
- You are entitled to make entries elsewhere on the leaderboard. I have gone ahead and done the entries for you this time. If you want a check on any of your work, it's best to post at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:17, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

Nazi Germany: infobox maps
Dannis243 is taking it upon himself to edit against the consensus reached concerning the infobox maps for Nazi Germany simply because he does not agree with the result. I have spoken to him, but he appears to be shrugging it off and has created another Talk Page section concerning the same issue. Director had spoken with him about the same issue back in March when the consensus was reached, but he has ignored my mention of it. He now claims that I am going against WP:ASSUME GOOD FAITH, but I am simply reverting his edits that were made against a prior discussion. Please can I have some assistance? Thank you. Nick Mitchell 98 (talk) 11:32, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- am not reverting now but that users hostility just because i want to discuss makes the user against WP:ASSUME GOOD FAITH Dannis243 (talk) 11:45, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- Stop it, please, Dannis243. There is no AGF here, this issue has been discussed in detail. -- Director (talk) 13:01, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- but its diffrent this time and i explained the diffrence Dannis243 (talk) 15:47, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
- How is this different to the last time? You are attempting to implement the same changes in the same fashion just because you disagree with the consensus. Nick Mitchell 98 (talk) 09:40, 8 May 2015 (UTC)
Clare Henry
Hi Diannaa, I took my first class in Wikipedia editing at MOMA in March. I have been helped there to put up my first wikipedia article, about the art critic Claire Henry, but I didn't know that the text wasn't supposed to be from another published material, I thought that it was OK when It came from a reputable source like thescottishartarchive. Since than I've read more about how to write a wikipedia article and also how to get other editors opinions before publishing it. I would like to start working on my new version of the article which I've rewritten following the wiki guidelines. But I noticed that if I want to use my sandbox to work on a new variation of the same article I have to contact you. Please help, Thank you, Mitzura2Mitzura2 (talk) 02:24, 8 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Mitzura2. It's okay to re-create the article as long as it's totally new content and written in your own words. I see there's already a lot of material on your talk page about copyright and how it applies to Wikipedia, so I won't repeat it here. Starting in a sandbox is a good idea, as is getting input from more experienced editors before moving it to mainspace. Thanks for your ongoing interest in helping write the encyclopedia. -- Diannaa (talk) 02:36, 8 May 2015 (UTC)
Heydrich's salary

- I think it's okay the way it is, and it's probably better to leave it the way it was worded in the source. -- Diannaa (talk) 16:08, 8 May 2015 (UTC)
- If that's what the source says, I'm also in favor of keeping it as it is. Cheers, Jonas Vinther • (speak to me!) 16:10, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

Annoying problem!
The second footnote here is, supposedly, referenced two times, but its not? See what I mean? Jonas Vinther • (speak to me!) 15:11, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
- You can't nest an sfn template inside an efn template if you pull the notes down into the references section (you can if you leave them in the prose). This is because the sfn template uses a <ref> tag. The harvnb template does not. So for articles where you want to pull your notes down to the references section, you have to put the citations in harvnb templates, which do not call a <ref> tag. -- Diannaa (talk) 15:19, 9 May 2015 (UTC)

cci request
Hi, Diannaa. :) There is a CCI request that I believe needs review by someone other than me or User:Justlettersandnumbers - Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations#BrillLyle. I'm trying to work down the backlog in those requests (it can take some time to review one!) but wanted to just ask if you could take a look at that one. The user feels personally targeted and, as it is not the most egregious case I've ever seen and I believe she is working in good faith, I would prefer to get more eyes. If you're not available for that, please just let me know, and I'll check with User:Wizardman. It can wait, but given the backlog I'm afraid it may wait a long time and be a bit painful while it does. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:07, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
- I have looked at the evidence already on the board and believe that a case needs to be opened. I regret that this may cause the user to leave Wikipedia, am really sorry about that. But it doesn't have to. There's been several cases where long-term users come to understand why their edits have been problematic and have been able to change and continue to be productive members of the community. Nobody thinks any the less of them for having made mistakes in the past. I would be happy to help with clearing the case as quickly as possible once it's opened. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:01, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

- Diannaa, curious based on what are you making this determination? Is it based on the original complaint that was fixed, but that User:Justlettersandnumbers reopened because he didn't take the time to read through a long history of edits, where the problem was fixed and okayed by an actual admin? Is it based on edits that Moonriddengirl has brought to my attention that I have immediately fixed? I do not understand the review or evidence of this case at this point. This process has been going on for what seems to be a longer time than is warranted -- and I seem to be bouncing between a small group of you. I am VERY unhappy with this review of my contributions. I haven't been editing a long time but I have been very active and enthusiastic. Are my edits perfect? Probably not. But again, I will say it again, I do not believe this review is warranted. - Hi BrillLyle. I am a Wikipedia administrator, and have been working on copyright clean-up on this wiki since 2012. I have participated in over 30 copyright investigations similar to yours. My assessment was based on an independent evaluation of the evidence presented at the case page. Normally if five instance of copy vio are found, that's considered enough to warrant opening a case. I understand that having this investigation open makes you feel uncomfortable and I am sorry for that. I will try to work my way through the case page as quickly as possible so that you can put this matter behind you. -- Diannaa (talk) 02:36, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Photo deletions
UserGogo212121 Hello Diannaa Which license upload photo wikipedia then not delete it --Gogo212121 (talk) 16:42, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Gogo212121. The photos you are talking about were copied from the Bollywood Hungama website. Some of their content is available under a Cc-by-3.0 license. However, you did not tag them with that license; you marked them with a license template indicating that the images were your own work, which they are not. Since the correct license template does not exist on this wiki, you will have to upload the files directly to the Commons in the future. I have done these ones for you:
- File:BiG Star Entertainment Awards 2014.jpg
- File:Celebs grace the '21st Lions Gold Awards 2015'.jpg
- File:Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone & others snapped at Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2014.jpg
If these are not the exact images you wanted, please upload different ones as separate files (do not over-write these images; that's not the right way to do it). Hope this helps. -- Diannaa (talk) 19:39, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
Flickr images permission received through flickr-mail
I contacted a few Flickr photo uploader asking for their permission to use their images in WP. Three of them have given me permission to use on Wikipedia only, with three different conditions.(First-send him the link of the image i upload and the WIKIpage i use, Second- to mention his name on the image file name, third- To mention her blog as my reference)
Now i have little knowledge of this picture uploading and copyright things. Those Flickr users don't have WP account and it's least likely they will understand critical WP rules.
Few days ago i asked this question, if the pic-uploader gave me permission through E-Mail what i will do next? https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:CosmicEmperor#Help_request_2
Acagastya told me about WP:CONSENT. They gave me permission to use it on WP only, but this letter looks like they have to give permission for other websites also. This is strange.I don' like this line "I am aware that this agreement is not limited to Wikipedia or related sites" in WP:CONSENT.
Now when I wanted to ask Acagastya, I was shocked to see that the user has retired and Huon blocked him.
If I send them flickr-mail, then what am i supposed to tell them? . I am very much confused. They gave me permission through flickr-mail but still I can't upload their images as I don't understand this WP laws. And I don't know how to make them understand, you have to write this below your image, then only I can upload
The answer given by Wikimedia commons is much more confusing, i didn't understand anything he saidC E (talk) 17:52, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
- Permission for Wikipedia use only is insufficient. The email permission you have already received is not sufficient. The file(s) must be released to the public domain or under a compatible license such as CC BY-SA 3.0. This means that the image(s) would be available for re-use anywhere and everywhere, even for commercial purposes. The file(s) could also be modified without the copyright holder's permission (for example, the photo could be cropped or photoshopped in any fashion). If the original uploader is not comfortable with these conditions, they should not release the photos under license. If he wants to proceed, the easiest way to do it is for him to change the license right there on Flickr. Hope this helps. -- Diannaa (talk) 18:53, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
Deletion of Hilda Stewart Reid image
Dear Diannaa,
I wrote an article on my novelist aunt Hilda Stewart Reid, from which you deleted the image last month for copyright reasons. The image was among newspaper clippings I found in Hilda Reid's papers, the clipping in question being a review of her novel Phillida, published in May 1928. The review was in a journal called Eve, The Lady's Pictorial, which I am sure has long ago ceased publication. The image was, I assume, provided to the journal by Hilda Reid's publisher, but as this is all 97 years ago I have no way of identifying or seeking permission from the copyright owner. Surely the image would in any case be out of copyright if it was published 97 years ago? I can, if you wish, provide you with a copy of clipping, showing that the drawing was published in 1928.
In these circumstances are you happy, please, that I upload the image again?
With best wishes, Yours, Alex Reid, 27 Millington Road, Cambridge UK. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexreid2 (talk • contribs) 16:12, 14 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Mr Reid. Since the image was published in 1928, it is not yet in the public domain in the United States. Since she was your aunt, perhaps you have access to a photo taken by a family member, or perhaps even by yourself, that could be uploaded under license? We could accept the drawing as a fair use image, but only if there's no free alternative. For details on the fair use policy, please see WP:NFCC. For details on arranging for photos taken by someone else to be donated to Wikipedia under license, please see WP:consent. -- Diannaa (talk) 18:29, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

She's back
Per your close and archive of this discussion and the subsequent unresolved DR/N here, be aware that the editor in question is now reopening the issue with a tag-bomb here. I have cautioned her [9] and noticed quite a conversation going on at that talk page that I have reason to believe involves threats to "get" me. I have no idea what to do with this individual, but would value some - perhaps several - admin eyes on this user and the associated pages. Montanabw(talk) 21:21, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
- This is so bogus. I'm back???!! The article was edited in reponse to my tag. And no, there are no threats. Just a prediction of natural consequences. Lynn (SLW) (talk) 01:56, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
- Per the end of previous drama, I agreed to add that paragraph quite some time ago, but forgot about it. This individual is clearly unhappy that I accumulated diffs with the belief that she was a sockpuppet. I still think she is a returned user who is not being honest about her past work here, but current behavior is what matters. And suggesting "natural consequences" in that thread does strike me as a threat. So did this. But all I am asking is for someone other than myself to just keep an eye on things. Montanabw(talk) 02:40, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
- Whatever. I have no issues with being "watched". I have nothing to hide. Lynn (SLW) (talk) 02:53, 18 May 2015 (UTC)

Declined report
Hello, I wanted to inquire about your response to the vandalism I reported. I'm just curious how many warnings a user gets? This individual blanked the page 6 times, which was reverted by multiple different users. Even after being warned about their behavior, they proceeded to vandalize my response to the request for protection. Can you help me understand? --Zackmann08 (talk) 23:54, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
- Also just a follow up, my apologies for reporting at multiple noticeboards. Initially this was a case of a user violating the 3 revert rule so I reported it there. But then the user proceeded to vandalize so I felt I needed to report the new "infraction" (for lack of a better word). I have scene cases in the past where a report was denied because it was in the wrong category. Just wanted to cover my bases. I will make sure not to duplicate in the future and appreciate you helping me to understand that it just adds to the workload. --Zackmann08 (talk) 23:58, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
- As you can see by his edit summaries, he thought he could author-request that the article be deleted under speedy deletion WP:G7 (one author who requests deletion or blanks the page). I explained on his talk that this was no longer possible, as others had heavily edited the page. He immediately understood and agreed to stop blanking (note the edit summary). Therefore a block is no longer necessary. I too have seen reports declined for being on the wrong board, so I can follow your reasoning there. Cheers, -- Diannaa (talk) 00:05, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
- Fair enough. We will have to agree to disagree there. It seems like an obvious case of vandalism, blanking the page with "TAKE THAT ZACKMANN08" and then vandalizing my response to the request for protection... But so long as it stops I really don't care either way. lol. Thanks for your help! Always appreciate a good explanation. :-) --Zackmann08 (talk) 00:10, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

Joseph Goebbels article
As we re-work the article, we need to work Magda Goebbels into the Joseph Goebbels article in a better way. There is only a small mention of her in the "Early Life" section. She started working for him in 1930, I recall and they were married in December 1931. We could add the meeting and marriage in the chronological way or with a "family sub-section" near the end of the article. What do you think? Kierzek (talk) 13:00, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
- I think the sections are already getting quite long, so it might be best to go with a brief mention in the chronological narrative and make a more comprehensive section down below. There's a complex relationship between Hitler, Magda, and Goebbels that will need further coverage. I have moved the first mention of Magda down to the correct chronological sequence. We will also need to make space in the chronological narrative for a brief mention of the affair with Lída Baarová, because of its impact on his relationship with Hitler, and perhaps include more extensive coverage in the yet-to-be-written family section. -- Diannaa (talk) 15:08, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

- Diannaa, I recall you have Shirer's book; there is a cited part to him in the "Anti-church" section, can you please check it? Thanks, Kierzek (talk) 11:21, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- Done. There's about 7 pages of material on the Church struggle in Thacker and about the same in Longerich, which we can use to verify and improve further. I'd rather not use quotations from the diary if we can help it, as it's a primary source. Note I am going to Vancouver for the weekend. -- Diannaa (talk) 12:46, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

Hello, I'm not sure what you did on the Talk:Wild and Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971, but now it looks like no new discussions can be added at the bottom. Could you please remedy that? Thanks. Lynn (SLW) (talk) 01:16, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Comedy Dynamics
Hello, i am not an expert on stuff like this, but it seems, if i am reading things correctly, that you deleted the wikipedia page for the company i founded, Comedy Dynamics(used to be called New Wave Dynamics until 2014). We are a real company that is the largest independent producer and distributor of stand up comedy content in the US. Can you please put our page back or point me in the right direction? Apologies if this is not the correct way to contact you, but i could not find an e mail address or number. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.91.240.37 (talk) 21:41, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hi there. I deleted the redirect, which was located at New Wave Dynamics. The article itself was located at the title Comedy Dynamics, and was deleted in April 2015 as the result of a deletion discussion, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Comedy Dynamics. The way Wikipedia defines notability is that the organization has to have in-depth coverage in multiple independent reliable sources such as newspapers, magazines, books, reliable websites, etc. Such sources are not available for this organization, so it's not notable enough, as Wikipedia defines it, for an article at this time. Sorry, -- Diannaa (talk) 22:06, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

Deleting Jack Thompson Image
It is ok that you deleted the image of Jack Thompson in my Jack Silver article. There are other images I used in the article. However, I have found that the company responsible for the photo did not renew their copyrights, (Bryant )making the photo public domain in the US. It is not easy finding this kind of information. Here's an update for you. I followed up on Mike's lead and managed to speak to the owner of Sports and Legends Pics Inc photos company last week. His name is Arthur Rosenberg and he told me that unfortunately there is no copyright on the pictures he sells because a copyright application had not been put in place. So, according to what he told me all pictures from the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s shot under the agency names of National, Cosmopolitan and Bryant are all out of copyright and permission is not required. He said that if I wanted to purchase the prints listed on his website I could go right ahead and just pay the cost price for each print and use them in my book.

I'm done with my improvement of the article. Sorry it took so long; was planning on improving it the same night I did Strasser's article, but other projects got in the way! Anyway, it's improved and hugely expanded now. I assume you want to do some ce's. Also, if you have other Nazi Germany-related articles in mind, like Strasser and Wessel, which could really use some improvements, please tell me because I will be jumping around Wikipedia looking for such articles anyway. - I noticed the other day that Leni Riefenstahl is currently B-class and has not too far to go to GA. There's a lot of source material available about her. Also, I've been meaning to tell you, if you want your Good Articles to be included in the Category:GA-Class Nazi Germany articles, they have to be manually tagged, like I did here. The category is normally added as part of a wikiproject template, and we don't have a Nazi Germany wikiproject, so I have been tagging them manually. Strange deletion rationales
You deleted a number of files with the rationale 'There are many reasons why this image comes under 'Fair Use' and cannot be served by text alone. Firstly, a mere text will not give an accurate depiction of David Jason. This is because everyone perceives what is being desribed to them differently (and...' Did you mean to use some other rationale which cites some speedy deletion criterion? --Stefan2 (talk) 08:20, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

image undelete request
Hello,
I edited the "Rhomboid protease" entry on May 19th adding a new image (https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=File:S-E_complex.png&action=edit&redlink=1). This was later deleted by you because of copyright concerns. Unfortunately I couldn't attend to this earlier to dispel the copyright concerns. I have made this image myself and it is based on a figure in my paper that is open access and I own the copyright to it. So there is no copyright problem. Could you please restore the image on the page? Or can you send me a screenshot of the page before you deleted the section so that I could regenerate it properly?
Thanks a lot.
Kvido KvidoS (talk) 09:11, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- There were two problems with this image. First, you did not attach a license to the file. Second, it is identical to one of the images here. The page is marked Copyright© 2014 EMBO, and you provided no evidence you have permission to upload the image here. -- Diannaa (talk) 12:32, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
Hi,
If you scroll to the very bottom of the page you cite here, you will see that the authors of the article (i.e. myself) own the copyright for the *content*. The article is open access under a licence that allows reproduction. And that figure was not modified. Is this sufficient? So can this image be used now? What do you need as a proof?
- Thanks for that. I can see the license now, which is a Creative Commons Attribution‐NonCommercial‐NoDerivs 4.0 License. This license is not compatible with what we need for Wikipedia, as it does not allow commercial use or derivative works. If you wish to release the image to Wikipedia under license, it has to be one of the licenses listed at WP:Compatible license. Check that out, and if you decide to proceed, what you need to do is send an email to the OTRS team from an email address that makes it obvious that you are who you say you are, and tell us which license you wish to release the image under. There's instructions at WP:consent. Please be patient if this takes a while, as the OTRS team is experiencing backlogs. Using the suggested wording for the email will speed up the processing of your donation. I am not an OTRS member, and will not be able to help with this step. Sorry it's all so complicated, but these rules are in place to protect the rights of copyright holders such as yourself. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:42, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for clarification. I can easily modify the figure to be different from the one in the paper, since I made it. :) Would that be then OK without any copyright issues? If this would be possible, can you just undelete the whole figure temporarily so that I can just upload a modified, different version of the image? It would simplify and speed up the whole process for me...Cheers. Kvido KvidoS (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 13:46, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry, but I can't restore the file without evidence of permission. The image was figure 6. -- Diannaa (talk) 13:51, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- Can you restore the text frame with an empty image to be uploaded? I will upload a different image immediately. I have the it ready. Can I send it to you somewhere? What do you require as a proof of authorship? -- KvidoS (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 14:01, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- No, I can't do that. And I won't reproduce the prose here, as it was copied directly from the article, which is not available under a compatible license. Proof of authorship is done using the OTRS ticket system, already described to you above. Sorry. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:06, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- OK, now resubmitted different image and sent the copyright email. The prose was NOT copied directly from the article. Please read carefully. -- KvidoS (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 14:36, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- At least some of the prose appears in a version of the article visible online, here. You need to add a license tag to the file. -- Diannaa (talk) 14:40, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry, I am new here. How do I add a license tag to the file? -- KvidoS (talk — Preceding undated comment added 14:43, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- You should have been prompted to do that when you uploaded the file. You must have skipped some steps. What you need to do is select a compatible license and add a license template to the file. We use templates to do that. For example, if you wish to release the image under a Cc-by-sa-3.0 license, add this mark-up: {{Cc-by-sa-3.0}}. I have added an information template and OTRS pending template to the file for you. -- Diannaa (talk) 15:01, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
