Question

Why did you remove my current talk page and added old and archived threads to my talk page? --BabbaQ (talk) 08:51, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

@BabbaQ: It was a mistake as I must have clicked on your old history by mistake as I was removing a space for you. Sorry about that! Davidgoodheart (talk) 17:54, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
No worries. Just got a bit confused. :)--BabbaQ (talk) 18:27, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
"as I was removing a space for you".  I wanted to see who was the editor that made multiple edits in the Fried Green Tomatoes film article that involved spaces (1, 2, 3) -- spaces that had not affected the display of content. And I saw your above reply to the editor asking why you had removed their current talk page and added old and archived threads. So I checked your edits on that editor's talk page and saw these: a, b, c, d, e. None of these are edits made to content written and posted by you.
I've been on Wikipedia long enough to know that there are editors with compulsive impulses, and for the most part minor compulsive edits are harmless. But a user's talk page is a personal space. You cannot indulge compulsive preferences when it involves the comments of other editors (including messages/announcements posted with bots), and you certainly cannot edit the format and display of another editor's talk page (unless you obtained their permission to do it beforehand). So I am leaving this comment to make you aware of WP:TPG -- specifically regarding WP:TPO. [Just in case ... do not make edits to this comment by me, be they in spaces or wiki markup (see WP:TPO).] Pyxis Solitary (yak). L not Q. 06:04, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
@Pyxis Solitary: The editor has stated in the past that they don't care if I edit their talkpage. I am also on good terms with this editor as well. Davidgoodheart (talk) 16:35, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
@Pyxis Solitary: Thanks for letting me know this as you do have the right to express your concerns. Davidgoodheart (talk) 16:47, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
Very well, then. I am glad to hear that. Ciao! Pyxis Solitary (yak). L not Q. 09:25, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

Trout

Whack!
You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know you did something silly.

For your move of Death of Gabby Petito without reading the heading. wizzito | say hello! 00:52, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

@Wizzito: I KNOW that and that is why I reverted it, and I DO feel silly as I didn't read the heading before I did that. Davidgoodheart (talk) 00:55, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

Apparently someone reverted your revert on List of fugitives from justice who disappeared

I noticed someone reverted your removal of a bunch of content from the list. Just letting you know so maybe you can restore it again. There's a couple people you should watch out for that are going around and trying to forcibly chop down any long articles into smaller articles. Ergzay (talk) 15:28, 16 October 2021 (UTC)

@Ergzay: Do you mean the Unidentified serial killers who were removed or do you mean the fugitives from justice who are no longer sought? Davidgoodheart (talk) 16:02, 16 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi

Hi, I hope everything is well with you. I have been improving the article about Lars Vilks. He died yesterday. He has been the victim of several crimes over the years and some people suspect murder when it comes to his untimely death. --BabbaQ (talk) 16:25, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

@BabbaQ: Hi, it's good to hear from you! Sorry to hear about the death of Lars Vilks as untimely deaths are often sad. I am dealing with a lot of issues right now. I will get back to you soon. Davidgoodheart (talk) 21:59, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
I have had a lot to do myself as of recent. Because of the murder of rapper Einár, I improved the article so it could appear at RD on the main page. Also created Einár discography and an article about one of his kidnappers Haval.--BabbaQ (talk) 23:10, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
@BabbaQ: Very interesting! I am very eager to talk and will get back to you as soon as I can as I have a lot going on right now. Davidgoodheart (talk) 00:21, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
I have created an article about the Disappearance of Helena Andersson in 1992. Without a doubt one of Swedens most publicized crime cases.--BabbaQ (talk) 23:46, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
@BabbaQ: Great job! I had it added to the List of people who disappeared list. I will get back to you as soon as I can as I am facing some serious issues right now. Davidgoodheart (talk) 01:49, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

Khattak

How are things, Davidgoodheart? I seriously can't find much of substance to add to the Idris Khattak article. --Kieronoldham (talk) 01:42, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

@Kieronoldham: I have a lot going on right now for sure. As for Khattak it doesn't need any more sources added. I will make an infobox for it soon and add a few touchups and then see how it looks. It may be then okay to add to the List of kidnappings as it is not a major disappearance that has much coverage. Davidgoodheart (talk) 03:18, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
That's reassuring to know. I noted a lack of English language articles out there. Some trivial aspects (daughter's travelling alone safety concerns within that area of Pakistan etc.) could be added, but not too much of real substance for the article itself.--Kieronoldham (talk) 03:41, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page.MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:38, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

Notification of discussion at ANI

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Pilaz (talk) 23:12, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

Davidgoodheart, Star Mississippi, Schazjmd: courtesy ping, FYI. Pilaz (talk) 23:17, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

Disruptive behavior at AfD

You are hereby requested to stop your disruptive voting at Articles for Deletion. You have spammed the same copypasted rationale on multiple deletion discussions at the very same minute within the past week:

This behavior has been going on at AfD for months. I recommend you stop engaging with AfD discussions since you are uninterested in assessing the claims brought forward by other editors. I will be asking an admin to strike all your current votes in light of this, and future violations will be brought to ANI. Pilaz (talk) 18:36, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

  • David, I note here that you do not even attempt to hide that you're copy/pasting your votes. I advised @Pilaz: that I am unable to look into this right now as I'm going offline, but strongly suggest you take Pilaz' warning and mine under advisement. Please evaluate each article based on notability criteria, not the desires of other contributors. Star Mississippi 18:50, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
@Pilaz: OK, fine I WON'T do it anymore. but please don't ask them to remove my votes as I don't that it would warrant that, I never thought that copypasting was against the rules. Davidgoodheart (talk) 20:09, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
Please review WP:AFDEQ, WP:DISCUSSAFD, WP:PERX/WP:EVERYONEELSE. AfD is not a vote. Editors are meant to individually review the claims of the nominator and of their peers and produce an informed judgement, not a blanket judgement like you have. The fact that you didn't even bother to remotely alter your copypasted "vote" and that you produced several "votes" within the same minute are extremely serious evidence that you didn't even read the articles you were expressing your opinion about. Since they undermine the integrity of the AfD process, since you didn't bother editing half of them (like you have claimed below), and since I've already asked two AfD admins to deal with this outside of ANI, I will heed Star Mississippi's advice and bring this to ANI. Pilaz (talk) 21:07, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
@Star Mississippi: I never knew that copypasting was against the rules and also I felt the same about each article. I have now removed my votes and re-added them all re-worded. I won't this again. Davidgoodheart (talk) 20:32, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
@Pilaz: What's an ANI? You also said future vilolations would be brought there. Since I didn't know about this I think that you shouldn't take it there until I do this again and I won't. Davidgoodheart (talk) 21:22, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
I think it's worth mentioning that Davidgoodheart has been making similar comments on AfDs since January 2019 but this is the first indication I can find that anyone has discussed his AfD comments with him. It can be hard to improve when nobody has let you know that you've done anything incorrectly. Davidgoodheart, I hope you will review the links that Pilaz provided and use them to improve your AfD participation. Schazjmd (talk) 21:52, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
Although this is a major blow to the integrity of AfD discussions, I agree with you Schazjmd. The proper way forward, imo, is to strike the current open !votes and to leave this user a second chance, albeit with a warning. I'm still going to bring this to WP:ANI to get those votes stricken and to raise awareness. Pilaz (talk) 21:58, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

Editing others' comments

Since you may be unfamiliar with norms, editing others' comments without indicating it is also poor form. I find it surprising that an editor of your tenure doesn't know ANI Star Mississippi 22:52, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

  • They were also warned in September 2021 about this [1] by Pyxis Solitary and have repeatedly altered other people's comments without their consent: [2] is an example among others. Per WP:ETIQUETTE: Though editing articles is acceptable and encouraged, editing the signed words of another editor on a talk page or other discussion page is generally not acceptable, as it can alter the meaning of the original comment and misrepresent the original editor's thoughts. Avoid editing another editor's comments unless necessary. Pilaz (talk) 11:19, 6 February 2022 (UTC)

Stop spamming articles with unnecessary citations

Stop icon This is your only warning; if you insert a spam link to Wikipedia again, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines.

For a year you have been adding citations to BitChute, which the Wikipedia article describes as "known for accommodating far-right individuals and conspiracy theorists, and for hosting hate speech". The links you are citing are copyright violations as they are unofficial uploads, which violates the WP:YTCOPYRIGHT policy.

Here are some examples of citations to BitChute you added to provide a citation when it is entirely unnecessary and unrelated to the text it is supposedly supporting:

and pretty much everything else at https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Special:Search&limit=20&offset=60&profile=default&search=insource%3A%22bitchute.com%22&ns0=1

If you want to cite audiovisual material then use Template:Cite AV media or other ones. Please undo your edits and remove this WP:REFSPAM and copyvio within a week or I will report this spam elsewhere. Thank you, Heartfox (talk) 21:50, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

@Heartfox: I just removed a lot of sources now and will finish up the rest later. Davidgoodheart (talk) 00:09, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
@Heartfox Thank you for addressing these problematic citations. That said, I would encourage a more restrained approach to the use of warning templates. It's best when raising an issue with an experienced editor to avoid templating and just drop a friendly note unless this has already been attempted. Beyond which, level IV warnings are reserved for egregious cases where there have been multiple attempts to communicate that have failed and or situations where circumstances are such that no reasonable person can assume anything other than bad faith editing. Which FTR I seriously doubt is the case here. In my experience it is best when raising concerns about problematic edits to always assume good faith until/unless commonsense makes that impossible. Thank you again for alerting Davidgoodheart to the above noted issues, which I am sure will be corrected expeditiously. Best regards... -Ad Orientem (talk) 00:48, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
I have no clue how the citation in Ironic (song) can be considered anything but bad faith. There is zero reason to provide a citation to the music video hosted on an "alt-tech video hosting service" to support the song's name in the lead. Sorry but I can't assume good faith with edits like that. In the examples above, all of the videos cited are posted on BitChute by the same account, which is also odd. Heartfox (talk) 01:37, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
Poor judgement ≠ bad faith, and, unless I am missing something, this is the first instance of the issue being raised. All of which said, these citations are clearly inappropriate. Davidgoodheart, I advise you very strongly not to add any links to that webhost w/o extremely good reasons and any links you may have added should be removed. IMO the site should probably be deprecated given its rather dodgy reputation. And if you have any connection to the account there, then that really is something where you should know better. -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:11, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

Ways to improve Death of Sonja Engelbrecth

Hello, Davidgoodheart,

Thank you for creating Death of Sonja Engelbrecth.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Likely fails WP:BLP1E. Tragic, but not sure of encyclopedic value.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Slywriter}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. Hi there, I noticed that you edited the murder of Don Banfield page I created recently and was wondering if you could give me some advice. Yesterday an IP started vandalising the page/adding unreferenced content [5], [6], [7]. Then, they went on the talk page and added a long legal threat saying they were going to sue the writer of the article and that they were 'contacting my solicitors': [8]. I was just wondering what you think I should do in this situation? I read WP:No legal threats and it seems quite a serious matter. I doubt they will stop vandalising the article. I assume you found your answer once you deleted your note on my Talk (I was offline), but that's the CfD if you didn't. Have a great day. Star Mississippi 15:31, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

@Star Mississippi: I think this was done secretly as I was not even informed that it was up for deletion and should of been as I created it. The person who nominated for deletion didn't even have an account. It shouldn't even of been nominated as it was kept after a previous afd as only one person wanted it deleted. And when it was appealed it says there is no restriction about re-creation. Flat out there was not call for it's deletion. Therefore I think that it should be restored and those who wanted it deleted told that they were in the wrong in deleting it. Davidgoodheart (talk) 20:44, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
You've brought it to DRV, which is the correct course of action. I'm not sure what you mean by the person who nominated it not having an account, it was nominated by @McPhail. I'm not sure why you weren't notified though. Star Mississippi 20:59, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
@Star Mississippi: I didn't see that McPhail nominated for deletion, my mistake. But like I said shouldn't articles and cfd that are closed as keep should be kept? Davidgoodheart (talk) 21:25, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
A 2018 no consensus (Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2018_April_12#Category:Professional_wrestling_jobbers) does not mean it can never be deleted. Factors change over the course of four years and editors who participated in this discussion and in the current DRV appear to believe it has. I didn't participate and know nothing of wrestling, so I take no position on the close. Star Mississippi 21:28, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
@Star Mississippi: There we two previous afds, the first one shown above was closed as a no consensus, then there was a SECOND afd that took place around two years later that was closed as a KEEP that User:Ad Orientem closed and that is why it should of been kept. Davidgoodheart (talk) 21:34, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
Found it at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2020_July_24#Category:Professional_wrestling_. I'd missed it in the logs. But the same issues apply. Just because something was kept two years ago doesn't mean it will be kept now. It appears at DRV that folks agree with the close, so it's unlikely to change at this stage. Star Mississippi 00:33, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
Please remember that consensus can change. It being closed as a keep doesn't mean it remains a keep forever. I've seen articles survive AfD more than 5 times only to eventually get deleted anyway. — Czello 07:25, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
I just want to add something else to this, too. Don't take it too personally when something you created gets deleted. I get it, it sucks because it's something you've worked on and you believe should exist. I've had articles I've worked on be deleted before, ones that I spent days writing by gathering sources for. But it comes with the territory of being on Wikipedia - you have to accept that occasionally the community might disagree with you and your work is deleted. The best thing you can do is keep that stiff upper lip and move onto the next article, otherwise we'll find ourselves abandoning our hard work on Wikipedia, and that doesn't help anyone. Czello 08:41, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
While you're welcome to take it to ANI, @Davidgoodheart, I don't think you'll get the outcome you're looking for especially with the direction the DRV is going. @Czello's advice here is good. Suggest taking it to heart. Star Mississippi 15:43, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

Nae worries

Sorry, can't go into details but something bad has happened in my family which is impacting my mood. Also (on the same day), a bot has found issues with 60+ of the maybe 140 images I have uploaded over the prv. 1 to 12 years (after all this time and what must have been millions of views, including scrutiny from others). Even though I agree with some of the rationales, I only have until 1 December to address them. Some might stay, but I doubt many will. I am only going to try and address the most pertinent half a dozen or so. Be ready to get back to normal soon. Rest assured. Kieronoldham (talk) 09:48, 26 November 2022 (UTC)

Just so you know

Your Christmas message is missing the closing |} to the table, and thus any posts made after it are included in the table settings. I've fixed a few that I've seen, but you might want to a) check with everyone you left the message, and b) make sure either the template you used or the page you were copying from is fixed. Thanks! Primefac (talk) 17:38, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

This happens every year - christmas messages lacking a table-end or a closing </div>. Usually the cause is copypasting the code of a template, omitting the whole of a line that ends with <noinclude>. Usually, WP:SUBSTing the template avoids this problem. --Redrose64 🦌 (talk) 18:27, 25 December 2022 (UTC)
