Mentoring on FAC
Hey there! Saw you on the FACM page. I recently got 2 Hours Doing Nothing failed as an FA due to (mainly) grammar errors, and Gog the Mild advised to have a mentor on FAC. Can you help on this? Thanks, GeraldWL 15:40, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

Image question
Hello, hello. Is the image at this page permissible? I wasn't convinced (nor were some others on the Discord) but I'm absolutely not an image specialist. Friday Jan 15: ONLINE Wikipedia Day NYC
January 15, 6pm: Wikimedia NYC celebrates 20 years of Wikipedia | |
---|---|
Wikipedia Day is always a big day for Wikimedia NYC. While we cannot meet in person, we still have something special planned. We will begin the event with the debut of a new video celebrating our community. This will be followed by a panel discussion with some of the people you'll see in the video talking about Wikipedia's 20th anniversary, Wikimedia New York City, and the amazing work they do on Wikimedia projects. The event will be broadcast live via YouTube. Feel free to ask questions for the panel through the chat! We will also have some NYC wiki trivia you can participate in, with confectionery prizes.

Update on Modern Warfare Remastered peer review
Hi. I'd replied to your last comment almost a week ago at Modern Warfare Remastered's peer review but I wasn't sure if it went through or if you'd seen it as I've not heard anything since. Please could you pop over when you get the chance? Wikibenboy94 (talk) 00:04, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Hi David Fuchs. I'd replied further in the section as I need assistance on inserting a new image into the article but you hadn't responded. Please can you assist when you're next available? I'm thinking of closing the peer review soon as there's been no further feedback from contributors and I'm happy there's no additional targets that need to be raised other than those already discussed. Orphaned non-free image File:Raptor-red.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Raptor-red.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:47, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
Hello! I see you were the one who reviewed Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door way back in 2008 for GA. However, it's 2021, and I'm wondering if you still approve of it being a GA, considering that the criteria might have changed in the meantime. Do you have any initial impressions on how this article currently looks that needs fixing? I'm asking because on working on a Paper Mario good topic. Panini🥪 15:41, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Panini!: It mostly looks fine, although I think some of the additions to the gameplay section are a little overboard in detail, and there appear to be some areas that aren't explicitly referenced (trailing sentences at the end of the gameplay paragraphs, etc.) Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 17:03, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

Felt I need to say this
David, I saw your vote at the case and that you want to ban me from the english wikipedia. I just want you to get the full picture and hope that you reconsider.
Yes, I was involved in an arb case 12 years ago. But what is important to take into consideration here was that it was me vs one disruptive sockpuppeteer and his sockpuppet, it was proven after the case that the first one controlled the other, and they were both indeffed for abusing multiple accounts: [1][2], I explained this here:[3]
I realize this isn't a good accuse for my own behavior at that point of time, but what is also important here is that this was 12 years ago and I had just gotten a Wikipedia account. I did not know the rules here and did not know how things worked. I did not know what "edit warring" was or how you was supposed to behave when contributing.
I went more then 9 years without a single block until Valereee recently blocked me 2 times in 1 month over Syrian Kurdistan. One of them was for discussing a source at a talkpage and the other one for saying that a user was cherry picking sources.
I hope that to you take this into consideration and that you reconsider your vote.--Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 23:52, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi David! I see you reverted one of my edits to Halo (franchise), with an edit summary stating "don't think removing publisher information is a MOS thing, or a citation fix". My edit summary stated "Script-assisted fixes: per CS1 and MOS:ITALICS", with CS1 linking to Help:Citation Style 1. - Red vs. Blue: The Shisno Paradox
I think these article should be merged or deleted, what do you think? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 19:59, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Judgesurreal777: Nice to see you kicking around after all these years :) I brought it up on the talk page for List of RVB episodes, but the plot summaries for the episodes are overly detailed and I can't make heads nor tails of a lot of it even after having watched the series. Given that there's next to no real-world content for them besides maybe a paragraph of creative details, I think stripping out the plot entirely and just having an index of episodes and release dates on a single page is the best option and appropriate weight. I haven't really thought about the characters... my gut feeling is there's not much in the way of secondary coverage that would merit having a separate list but I haven't paid much attention. I've got some FA sweeps to worry about first so after these crop of BLPs get cleaned up and GA'd I'm going to be focusing on that instead. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 00:34, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Personal attack, disruptive editor
I am dealing with an editor (40.138.19.121) and I am not sure what my next step should be.
In summary, they keep removing a person, Billy Napier, off of the ‘Notable People’ section on the Chatsworth Ga article.
See the history here:
https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Chatsworth,_Georgia
Today, this editor also just left me a message on my Talk page that is nothing but a nonsensical personal attack:
https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Frank042316
How should I handle this?
Thanks
Frank042316 (talk) 23:24, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hey Frank, if there's edit-warring to keep information on the page, it should really be taken to the article talk page rather than left in edit summaries. Try and engage the user there. I left them a note reminding them to keep disagreements to article content; if they keep up and refuse to engage in discussion I'd take them to a noticeboard. informal IP-check request
I'm here IAW WP:CONTACTCU #1. I'm mildly concerned about IP users and a registered user making edits on behalf of the same real-person. At the article Reginald Barclay, I've been discussing image placement with two IP editors (109.76.200.100 & 109.76.193.171). Most-recently, a registered user—Cléééston—repeated an IP's edit w/o an edit summary. That raised my eyebrow, so I looked into the user: they have only 1341 edits in 6.68 years, have never edited that article before, and were previously blocked for sockpuppetry. Star Trek Generations scheduled for TFA
This is to let you know that the above article has been scheduled as today's featured article for 12 August, 2021. Please check that the article needs no amendments. A coordinator will draft a blurb - based on your draft if the TFA came via TFA requests, or from an existing blurb on the FAC talk page if one has been posted. Feel free to comment on this. We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks and congratulations on your work. Gog the Mild (talk) 13:26, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Bonnie Ross
The article Bonnie Ross you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Bonnie Ross for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Barnstar
All-Around Amazing Barnstar | ||
I wonder if people have simply forgotten these little awards exist, but it's worth recognizing that you're one of the most consistent all-around editors. Thank you for supporting other editors' efforts to build quality articles, and for modelling that behavior in the editing you do. Remember to take a rest now and then because Wikipedia needs good editors like you for the long haul. Shooterwalker (talk) 23:44, 12 July 2021 (UTC) |

- Great work David! What articles do you think should be nominated for GA from Halo next? And anything you would like help with? Judgesurreal777 (talk) 19:40, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
- User:Judgesurreal777: I'm working on Halo: Spartan Strike next, and I'm also pulling up sources for rewriting This Spartan Life. Longer term Corrinne Yu is the last "personnel" marked as under our scope that needs some love (there feels like a bit of a promotional bent due to some COI edits) and the real long haul would be cleaning up List of Red vs. Blue episodes and just turning the summaries into short one-sentence log lines so the page isn't giant and terrible. At some point I'd like to return to getting Halo: Combat Evolved up to FA but with all the old FA cleanup I'm doing I don't think I have the bandwidth for getting it the attention it needs this year. Really anything you're interested in helping with would be great. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 21:27, 15 July 2021 (UTC)

Rejoined scheduled for TFA
This is to let you know that the Rejoined article has been scheduled as today's featured article for October 30, 2021. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/October 30, 2021, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.
For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.

Orphaned non-free image File:Myst4 Atrus.png
Thanks for uploading File:Myst4 Atrus.png.
Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 23:48, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
Art Tatum
David I read the article yesterday on Art Tatum, which is currently a good article. I thought it should become a featured article. Do you have any opinion? Greg Dahlen (talk) 11:01, 24 September 2021 (UTC) @Greg Dahlen: a better person to ask would probably be User:EddieHugh, as he's the main contributor to the article. At first blush the article looks very strong but I'm not a jazz expert and wouldn't be able to tell what issues if any beyond the superficial exist without a deep dive into the subject matter. Hello and welcome to the September GOCE newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since June 2021. Current and upcoming events
September Drive: Our current backlog-elimination drive is open until 23:59 on 30 September (UTC) and is open to all copy editors. Sign up today! Drive and Blitz reports
June Blitz: From 20 to 26 June, 6 participating editors claimed 16 copy edits, focusing on requests and articles tagged in March and April. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. July Drive: Almost 575,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event. Of the 24 people who signed up, 18 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here. August Blitz: From 15 to 21 August, we copy edited articles tagged in April and May 2021 and requests. 9 participating editors completed 17 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Other news
June election: Jonesey95 was chosen to continue as lead coordinator, assisted by Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis. New maintenance template added to our project scope: After a short discussion in June, we added {{cleanup tense}} to the list of maintenance templates that adds articles to the Guild's copy editing backlog categories. This change added 198 articles, spread over 97 months of backlog, to our queue. We processed all of those articles except for those from the three or four most recent months during the July backlog elimination drive (Here's a link to a "tense" discussion during the drive). Progress report: As of 18:26, 24 September 2021 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have processed 468 requests since 1 January and there were 60 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog of articles tagged for copy-editing stood at 433 (see monthly progress graph above). Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Promotion of Power Mac G4 Cube
rejoined
hello, David Fuchs! i had a quick question regarding this article. i noticed that, although the version of the article that passed fac review states that this was the sixth episode of the season, the article lead currently states that it is the fifth episode, which conflicts with both the article's infobox and the scheduled blurb. from what i understand, the season premiere first aired as a double-length episode, but subsequently aired as two separate episodes in syndication. although wikipedia's own list of episodes for the fourth season considers "rejoined" the sixth episode, you mentioned in this edit summary that startrek.com considers "rejoined" the fifth episode. do you currently have a preference over which numbering scheme to use? dying (talk) 01:33, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Dying: hey Dying, not really a preference. Mostly I just wanted people to stop drive-by changing it without any consideration or thought involved. The numbering is ultimately arbitrary, it comes down to as you say whether you consider the opener a double-length episode or two episodes together. StarTrek.com does (or did, they have continued to update their site and make it less useful) list it as 05 because presumably they were treating it as one episode. But at the same time if you treat them as two episodes you get to the 'normal' 26-ep season number. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs talk 11:18, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
- haha, yeah, i was surprised at how unhelpful startrek.com appears to be nowadays. i had visited to try to verify your edit summary, but could not get anywhere useful on the site. anyhow, i was originally thinking of conforming the article and blurb to your preferred numbering scheme, but as you have no preference, i think i will leave them both alone. thanks for the input! dying (talk) 12:59, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

Of the 21 people who signed up, 14 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here. Other news
It is with great sadness that we report the death on 19 November of Twofingered Typist, who was active with the Guild almost daily for the past several years. His contributions long exceeded the thresholds for the Guild's highest awards, and he had a hand in innumerable good and featured article promotions as a willing collaborator. Twofingered Typist also served as a Guild coordinator from July 2019 to June 2021. He is sorely missed by the Wikipedia community. Progress report: As of 30 November, GOCE copyeditors have completed 619 requests in 2021 and there were 51 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog stood at 946 articles tagged for copy-editing (see monthly progress graph above). Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you!
