Spearfishing
[edit]We don't add links to external websites in article text, so I've reverted the ones you added to Spearfishing. If the subjects are notable enough to deserve a link, someone will write an article for them, and we can add an internal link to their article. --RexxS (talk) 21:25, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
Ernest Hemingway's World War I wounds
[edit]Hi! I have just read the details you added to Ernest Hemingway' What a find! I think this should be discussed on the article talk page in terms of the source: primary or secondary. I opened a new section for discussion on the article with the paragraph below. Please join in.
Davetheirishguy has found in Smithsonian Magazine, a letter to home, sent by Lt. Walter Broadway during World War I, that describes the wounds Hemingway received while serving as an ambulance driver. Though it is interesting to find a more specific description, the details somewhat contradict the information found in the biographies used to build this Wikipedia article. After reading the quote from the letter, I am assuming that, though the letter has been archived in the course of the collecting project, the Smithsonian Magazine article contains no comments from a Hemingway scholar. I think we should discuss this new source and decide whether to treat the letter as a primary source and perhaps not use it until we have some comments from a Hemingway scholar. I have removed the details from the Smithsonian Magazine article pending a discussion.

- Hi, this is neonorange again. It is a convention on Wikipedia to keep a conversation on a talk page all in the same place. If I start a conversation (thread) on your talk page, you may reply just below my initial post, indenting each successive message (yours or mine) on the same subject by using a ':' (colon) as the first character of each reply. Below I have left an example of three replies. — Neonorange (Phil) 04:48, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

- Second example. — Neonorange (Phil) 04:50, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
- Third example. — Neonorange (Phil) 04:52, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
- The colon will not appear when editing, but it will effect the indentation. I opened a discussion of the letter you discovered and I placed it on the talk page for the Hemingway article. In this way any editor may join the discussion (100 or more editor keep a watch on that article). Please continue this conversation there.

Please use four tildes ~~~~ at the end of any talk page post. The Wikipedia software wile replace the tildes with your username, time, and date. Also, please leave a short, but meaningful edit summary in the slot provided. Also, there are many syntax and code items that can be used to improve the look of Wikipedia page (like the italicized many above) and required items like double left [[ and right ]] brackets to link articles. The best way to learn those is to look at, in edit mode, the messages I've left and see what I did. Experiment on your sandbox. — Neonorange (Phil) 05:18, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:The Crab Place
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:The Crab Place, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. DGG ( talk ) 06:07, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
Hello, I'm Deb. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.
Hello, Davetheirishguy. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.Deb (talk) 15:03, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm ScottishFinnishRadish. I noticed that you recently removed content from Rick Sanchez (journalist) without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. [edit]Hello Davetheirishguy. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Davetheirishguy. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Davetheirishguy|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Seraphimblade Talk to me 23:48, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
