George Devol photo

[edit]

You are identified as the person who deleted this photo from Wikipedia: George_C_Devol_Color_Photo.jpg

http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Image:George_C_Devol_Color_Photo.jpg&action=edit&redlink=1

Please explain why you deleted it. I uploaded the photo and did not authorize its deletion. Please replace it immediately.

This guy: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Herbythyme deleted it from Commons where apparently it did not belong and said you were the one who deleted it from Wikipedia.

But I never put it on Commons nor did I authorize it being moved to Commons, I just put it on Wikipedia where it has been for YEARS and it was on at least 2 pages - Robot and George Devol.

Please put the photo back on Wikipedia and on both pages exactly like it was as soon as possible.

Thank you. Bangthedash101 (talk) 04:29, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am curious as to why you ignored hundreds of examples of precedent in closing this no consensus. Can you advise how many such examples of categories you would like to see deleted before you consider precedent to be established? Becasue I'm sure I can supply them. Privet Conscious. You contributed to this page which is now an AFD. I hope you will help keep this from happening. The article needs improvement and strengthening, not deletion. Regards, Hmose (talk) 13:00, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tournament templates

[edit]

Hi, I was just wondering if you could make a tournament template for me. Thanks. - Nick C (t·c) 19:06, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Thanks for replying! I just want this template: {{16TeamBracket-Compact-Tennis7}} to be converted into a template for 32 Teams, here: {{32TeamBracket-Compact-Tennis7}} (you could probably do this by making the player name field smaller); with five rounds: 1st round, 2nd round, quarter finals, semi finals and final. If you could do this I would really appreciate it. - Nick C (t·c) 19:28, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your time! If you have the time, could you write a key on how to use it; even though I've been a Wikipedian for more than three years, I still don't know how to use templates without a key! Once again, I appreciate it! - Nick C (t·c) 20:01, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for making this template and keys to it! - Nick C (t·c) 20:22, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
One last favour, could you make one for 8 teams, with only three rounds, with a key? at {{8TeamBracket-Compact-Tennis7}}? Thanks! - Nick C (t·c) 21:36, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Categories & Moving images to Commons

[edit]

Why does moving images to Commons break the Categories? Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 01:36, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and Commons have separate categorization. Wikipedia images are in Wikipedia categories, and Commons images are in Commons categories. The category trees do not exactly mirror each other. Conscious (talk) 07:58, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. So why, when the image is moved, doesn't the move process leave behind the WP categories? It doesn't seem very well-designed that someone has to manually re-create the category links? Pdfpdf (talk) 08:24, 28 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Two questions

[edit]

Am I allowed to remove the 3rr warning after I read it? Also, second question is the following

  1. http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=World_Chess_Championship_2008&diff=prev&oldid=245924908
  2. http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=World_Chess_Championship_2008&diff=prev&oldid=245900693
  3. http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=World_Chess_Championship_2008&diff=prev&oldid=245736981
  4. http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=World_Chess_Championship_2008&diff=prev&oldid=245687077
  5. http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=World_Chess_Championship_2008&diff=prev&oldid=245310046
  6. http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=World_Chess_Championship_2008&diff=prev&oldid=245271815
  7. (plus two other minor edits to the 2008 WCC article, not relevant to 3rr)

He has 6 times reverted my edits, plus he has received a very mild warning on his talk page. Next he's been doing ad nauseum attacks about not only my edits, but secondly my motivations, thirdly the layout of the talk page, and 4th has engaged in absurd ad nauseum about whether to call a game a round or not. The top 3 are within the last 24 hours and are after I put a 3rr notice on his page. I put the 3rr notice October 14th after his 2nd revert, since he was close to 3. He has done 4 more. Now notice that the following message was put on his talk page http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3A165.189.91.148&diff=245323302&oldid=196566957 That was Oct 14th, 3 days ago. Sentriclecub (talk) 17:27, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As I warned 165.189.91.148 earlier for WP:NPA violations, Sentriclecub left a message related to this discussion at my talk page. I'm not sure if it's entirely pertinent, but since you seem to be more involved here, I thought I'd let you know. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 21:17, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, why did you change D10 back to D14 for game 1 without explanation, when I did give an explanation why it's D10? €: to be more precise, I can understand (now ^^) why it is marked D14 but I missed an explanation, a source since you made it "on the fly" --The Hawk (talk) 21:34, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flag of Ceuta

[edit]

You have deleted the Flag of Ceuta image, which has affected my Userpage. The explanation for this deletion is greatly truncated, and as a result, I have no valid explanation for why you would delete an image that I took from this very site less than two months ago. From the little of your explanation that I can see, it appears to be politically motivated. I trust that this is not the case. Ceuta, as an autonomous Spanish city, has a valid claim to its flag under Spanish law, so the only thing that I can think of is some sort of copyright infringement, but that doesn't make any sense either. Please explain. Emrgmgmtca (talk) 14:52, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what you're referring to as being over a year ago, but the simple fact is that my user page is only two months old, and the image in question was copied from Wikipedia internal sources within that two month span. If in fact the item had been deleted a year ago, why was it still available on the site? It seems to me that if someone is that concerned about copyright over a regional flag that is probably public domain in any case, then they didn't do a very good job of satisfying 'due diligence' when they decided to make the deletion. If a decision was made to delete a certain graphic image, that should have been system wide and immediate, not left lying around until some bot got around to it. That approach leaves Wikipedia wide open to a charge by whoever owns the image, if indeed anyone does, that they failed to take every reasonable measure to ensure that the copyright was not infringed on their site. Just my opinion, but food for thought. Emrgmgmtca (talk) 15:58, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts.

Wikipedia Stories Project

[edit]

Hi!

My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I'm scouring user pages looking for inspiring, motivating and interesting stories of how Wikipedia has affected the lives of people. I'm asking questions like "How has Wikipedia changed your life?", "What's the most interesting story you have about Wikipedia?" and "Has Wikipedia ever surprised you?"

You have quite a few barnstars! I wonder how you got them?

Last year, we used the annual fundraiser as a way to show the world who it is who actually writes Wikipedia. We featured editors from Brazil, Ukraine, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, United States and England. This campaign was a huge success, resulting in the most financially successful fundraising campaign ever. It was also a campaign that stayed true to the spirit of Wikipedia, educating the public that this free top-5 website is created by volunteers like you and I.

This year we want to highlight more Russian-language Wikipedia editors, so I am in the process of planning a trip to Russia to interview editors.

If you or someone you know (or have heard about) has been positively affected by Wikipedia, or have something interesting to say about Wikipedia I'd very much like to hear about it!

Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project, or if you know someone else with whom I should speak.

Of course, if you have any questions or concerns, please ask! I will answer as soon as I can. I apologize for any poor translation of this letter, I am using Google-translate. I hope it makes you laugh :)

Thank you for your time,

Victor Grigas

Notice of change

[edit]

Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that if you are inactive for a continuous three year period, you will be unable to request return of the administrative user right. This includes inactive time prior to your desysopping if you were desysopped for inactivity and inactive time prior to the change in policy. Inactivity is defined as the absence of edits or logged actions. Until such time as you have been inactive for three years, you may request return of the tools at the bureaucrats' noticeboard. After you have been inactive for three years, you may seek return of the tools only through WP:RFA. Thank you. MBisanz talk 00:20, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Zak Martin Wiki entry

[edit]

Hello,

My name is Zak Martin. Several years ago you deleted a Wiki article about me. I actually only became aware of this a few days ago when someone sent me the link to a page giving the reasons for my deletion. I don't particularly care whether I have a Wiki entry or not, but I do care when the reasons given for the removal of my page are false. For example:

http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Zak_Martin

"Delete The sources do not support the claims made, for example in the Notting Hill Rapist case the police didn't ask him for assistance, they just partially agreed to his offer of "help" and let him hold a knife. The day Wikipedia puts up inflated and fraudulent claims by charlatan "psychics" who use desperate people to make a living (they may not charge for "helping the police" but they sure get plenty of business as a result of the publicity) is the day I'm out of here. Plutonium27 (talk) 06:37, 7 January 2009 (UTC)"

This is not only incorrect, it is libellous (and in fact I intend to discuss it with my lawyer). In the case referred to, the police did, in fact, contact me and ask me for help. I did *not* offer my help, nor have I *ever* approached the police with an offer to help. This is, and has always been my policy. It is false and malicious, therefore, for this editor to claim - and to write on a publicly-accessible page - that "the police didn't ask him for assistance" and "partially agreed to his offer". This is simply untrue. I have worked on hundreds of murder and missing persons case since that case, and I have never approached the police, or anyone else, with an offer of help. Nor have I ever charged a fee for helping in cases of this kind.

Your editor "Plutonium27" states: "(they may not charge for "helping the police" but they sure get plenty of business as a result of the publicity)"

Again, this is completely false. I accept cases of this kind on a strictly "no fee, no publicity" basis. This is clearly spelled out on my website. I have never, ever approached or cooperated with the media in connection with any of the police cases in which I've been involved. In the "Notting Hill Rapist" case, in fact, I turned down a number of offers from British tabloid newspapers (including a five figure offer from the Sun) to be interviewed about the case. I was not the source of the newspaper articles that were published about this case, and in fact several articles made mention of the fact that I had declined to make any comment.

The statement: "The day Wikipedia puts up inflated and fraudulent claims by charlatan "psychics" who use desperate people to make a living." is clearly one individual's biased opinion, and not a factual statement. I am not a charlatan (to accuse me of being one on a public website is clearly libellous and actionable), I have never made fraudulent claims, nor have I ever "used desperate people to make a living". This is an outrageous allegation to make on a Wikipedia page. The individual who made this claim, and called for my Wiki entry to be deleted, clearly knew nothing about me, and had no grounds at all for making this serious allegation.

As I said, I don't particularly care whether I have a Wiki page or not. The person who emailed me was from the part of Dublin where I grew up, and I was listed as a "notable" person from that area.

http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Crumlin,_Dublin

When they clicked on my name, however, they were taken to the message saying my page had been deleted, and giving the entirely bogus reasons for its deletion.

Can you please either restore my page, or remove it altogether. It is completely unacceptable to delete a page and replace it with a page containing scurrilous and libellous allegations.

Thank you,

Zak Martin

Hi, I noticed you deleted this image from Wikipedia when the file was moved to Commons about 10 years ago now. It looks like when the file was transferred, none of its original source information was retained— the Commons version now just says the source is the English Wikipedia, with a link to this deleted file. Can the source information (if there was any) be retrieved from the deleted file and added to the Commons version of it? Am curious. Please let me know. Thanks! Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Logo of FC Baltika Kaliningrad.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Logo of FC Baltika Kaliningrad.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
