Thank you for uploading File:Pentaflake.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Beryllium nitrate. Doing so helps everyone to understand the intention of your edit (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 01:03, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:FRC Logomotion Logo.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:FRC Logomotion Logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 04:15, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Quincy Mine Hoist Association requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Sadads (talk) 12:27, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

FIRST

I saw you editing a FIRST-related article recently. I'm trying to start a FIRST wikiproject. I'm kinda a one man army when it comes to maintaining these pages (they were horrible when I started earlier this year), so if I could get several editors on board re: cleaning up and expanding FIRST wiki articles, it would be great. Put a comment on my talk page if you're interested. hello, i'm a member | talk to me! 03:43, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Thank you! See if you can try to get more editors on board. hello, i'm a member | talk to me! 00:11, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion converted to PROD: Kathleen "Kat" Harvey

Hello Chris857. I am just letting you know that I have converted the speedy deletion tag that you placed on Kathleen "Kat" Harvey to a proposed deletion tag, because I do not believe CSD applies to the page in question - this is a fictional character, and WP:CSD#A7 applies only to real people. Also, when you tag for speedy deletion, please notify the article author by copying to their talk page the message which the speedy deletion template generates for you when it is expanded on the article page - otherwise he author doesn't know what he did wrong or what has happened to the article, and probably just puts it in again. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 11:45, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

Speedy declined, converted to Prod

I declined the speedy deletion on Social Media: Modern Anarchism?. WP:CSD#G12 applied, but only half of the article was a copyvio, so I just pulled that out. What was left is technically enough to pass WP:CSD#A1. A1 is usually interpreted extremely narrowly--only for articles of a sentence or two. Nonetheless, the article is clearly original research, so I've prodded it instead. Qwyrxian (talk) 06:39, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

CSD notification

The page Laser cutting machine looks like it may be a valid CSD, but I prefer not to delete a page unless the creator has been notified. I understand that sometimes automated tools fail to do the notification for some reason. Not sure if that was the case, but could you make the notification?SPhilbrickT 03:13, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

CSD and Prod notification

Hi Chris857. I too noticed that you are not notifying page creators when you tag articles for CSD or for Prod, and would strongly encourage you to do so. There is a template that can be copied from the pages once they are tagged, and pasted onto the creator's user talk page. Thanks, Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 22:03, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Boxes

Can I just check the OS and browser you were using in relation of the failure of #x2060 to display correctly in cite report? Fifelfoo (talk) 03:33, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

I am using chrome (15.0.874.121 m) on XP. Both in the template examples and Jacobsville Sandstone (down in Further reading). Chris857 (talk) 03:36, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Ta. There's a problem with the support in Citation/core for non-italicised titles currently under discussion. #x2060 not rendering correctly is an issue. Can you please tell me if #xFEFF#xFEFF (the character contained between the #xFEFFs) displayed correctly? The correct behaviour is to display a zero-width space. Fifelfoo (talk) 03:42, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
I see no character there. Chris857 (talk) 03:43, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Cite report has been updated to use FEFF instead of 2060. Please check Jacobsville Sandstone for correct rendering in the wild. Fifelfoo (talk) 03:59, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
I'm currently at school, and Firefox is not displaying any boxes. Chris857 (talk) 18:40, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi. In Torch Lake Township, Houghton County, Michigan, you recently added a link to the disambiguation page U.S. Post Office (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Replaceable fair use File:Bowled Over Field.PNG

Thanks for uploading File:Bowled Over Field.PNG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:06, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

Personal wedding website

I believe that Personal wedding website has been significantly improved since the last time you saw it. I was hoping that you would look it over and decide whether you believe that the {{Example farm}} tag was still warranted, and if you had any constructive suggestions (about anything) for the new editors who are working on improving that article. Thank You For Your Contribution to Abdullah H. Abdur-Razzaq...

This is an important historical figure whose Wikipedia Page is long overdue. Somewhat of a novice to Wiki, I'm happy to say my contribution escaped deletion, with the help of technical assistance by more experienced contributors such as yourself. Might I ask what brought you to Abdullah H. Abdur-Razzaq's page and inspired you to contribute? T.Diva 19:22, 31 December 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Taina.diva (talkcontribs)

How you are claiming copyright for the Vellore - Economy article? If that is the case you can create your own Tamilnadu website, copy the contents from Wiki and claim copy right. Please dont try to be too smart. Dont forget to see the copyright discussion page, where your bogus claims have been refuted. If you are not satisfied see the discusson page . — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geico2000 (talkcontribs) 16:33, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

I saw the discussion page once, but it didn't seem to be reaching a conclusion. Could you provide a link to it? I wasn't claiming copyright, but it was something that seemed to need investigation. Chris857 (talk) 16:38, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

If you see the discussion page most of the materials are from Tamilnadu government website. Vellore online is using the contents from Tamilnadu government website and wiki is using some of them. And many websites are using the same content. All the materials claimed by you are in public domain. So if somebody wants to claim copyright its the Tamilnadu government and not a website like vellore online. By the way are you the web master of vellore online. What prompted you to put a copyright violation. If you can provide the reason, I can take the issue with Vellore Mayor.Geico2000TALK 11:09, 01 Feb 2012 (UTC)

I live in the US and have no connection whatsoever with that website. I not sure what led me to the page, but I saw what appeared on the surface to be a copyright violation. If it is not in violation, I have no issue with the banners being removed. Chris857 (talk) 16:57, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for explaining the truth and I really appreciate that. I have removed the copy right things from the page. If this was the case I would not have wasted three hours collecting all the facts!. Have a nice day. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geico2000 (talkcontribs) 18:32, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Note at "Location" section of WP:IMAGES: "It is often preferable to place images of faces so that the face or eyes look toward the text." Pepso2 (talk) 09:16, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

I did not know that. Whatever is preferred then. Chris857 (talk) 15:58, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Tagging for copyvio

When you tagged a page for a copyright violation using {{copyvio}}, as you did with Economy of Vellore, please remember to list it at WP:CP and notify the person who introduced the material as is detailed in the template. This remained undealt with for much longer than necessary as it was not listed. Normally as the contributor was not notified we would have to wait another 7 days before the listing could be processed, but in this case it looks like it was an unattributed copypaste from Vellore so I've redirected it there. From my own investigation and the comments on the talk page of that article this would also be a reverse copyvio - i.e. they copied from us not the other way round. All that said your efforts to deal with this are much appreciated - not enough editors do deal with copyright issues so any efforts you make are welcome. Dpmuk (talk) 00:02, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for understanding. I think that was one of the first long-standing (copyvio in appearance) that I came across, so speedy delete wouldn't make sense. The particular template didn't seem sufficiently clear that other actions were necessary. Hopefully this is the last I have to hear on this issue. Chris857 (talk) 15:20, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Wikiproject Visual arts

Yes, it exists, so please start including it in your tagging, which I notice you very rarely do. Thanks. Johnbod (talk) 22:34, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Is this precipitated by Talk:Casket with Scenes of Romances (Walters 71264)? For some reason, artwork wasn't the first thing that came to mind seeing that article. Also, are there some other instances that you are referring to? I don't feel like I spend much time in artistic topics. Chris857 (talk) 23:15, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
Also, I make no guarantee that I will catch every relevant project for every article I tag. Chris857 (talk) 23:17, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
