There's a note for you here. I thought you had withdrawn your objection. Did I misunderstand? SlimVirgin talk|contribs 16:55, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Sucky article?

Were you suggesting that I write my own praise? I did follow the "improve article" link; check out the results if you like: Chiasmus, Chiastic structure. Have I been a good boy? Drmies (talk) 17:57, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Ha, your next hornet's nest is disguised as an apple pie! So I messed around with the article a bit--hope everyone likes it. I try to be an equal-opportunity offender. Drmies (talk) 18:21, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Re:Sunshine

It is actually midnight, ChildofMidnight. Thanks for your mediation. Drmies thinks Apfelstrudel should be its own article, and so do I, but not obsessively. The thing with this Apfelstrudel is that is the best known Strudel and the others are not so outstanding. Is like Apple pie and all the other fruit pies. But you are confusing me, beautiful child, you do not want a separate article on Apfelstrudel but you want one on Mohnstrudel?

But of course, why not, I seems to be entangled in different types of strudels at the moment...

Warrington (talk) 23:24, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

I am not biased, I just forgot about the Cherry pie, cheese is not fruit, what is swirled poppy seed cake? anyway - I am a big poppy seed fan and I am going to bed now. More to come, see this until than = Túrós csusza for a poppy seed dish..

Will you marry me?

Warrington (talk) 23:49, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Take a look at Buchta and Hamantash. Bongomatic 07:19, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Does Hamantash have a poppy seed variant? ChildofMidnight (talk) 07:26, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Poppyseed is the third variant discussed on the Hamantash page and the only one described under Purim. Bongomatic 11:40, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

...because why leave well enough alone? Drmies (talk) 02:57, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Haha, I have no intention of making such a salad. (I made quiche and peach pie for dinner tonight. Yum.) I messed around with the article, making it incredibly up-to-date. Hey, this is nice--I'm watching Olbermann, sipping a scotch, all the girls are in bed...nice and quiet. Later! Drmies (talk) 03:41, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
BTW, nice offer you got one section above! Long live Apfelstrudel, German or Austrian or Hungarian! Drmies (talk) 03:42, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Check it out. Someone really hates me now. And I didn't even crack any jokes... Drmies (talk) 04:35, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Nominating articles for deletion isn't a good way to make friends. Where'd you learn to do the long form citation? ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:57, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
That's IT! Booby prize without booby??? I'm filing a complaint against you--and I'll root for the Magic for the next 4 minutes and 6 seconds! Drmies (talk) 05:54, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
OK, I can't--been a Lakers fan ever since RHCP's "Magic Johnson." Those big references, I use the template list; I've been trying to improve references ever since I first got onto WP. I'm an English professor, what can I tell you. I'm not entirely happy with the templates: I want a template for "article in an edited collection." And I'm really not that good at it--for longer articles you need to use some sort of note format, and I haven't done that yet, so I improvise (like in note 11 of Le Menagier De Paris). Really, like often in WP, it's cutting and pasting... Drmies (talk) 06:01, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Odom! And the foul! And a rebound, and another foul! Drmies (talk) 06:06, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
This was a pretty good edit summary [1]. I noticed the one a while ago where you corrected a msitake I made. Not bad, not bad. There's hope. I didn't think people watched NBA basketball games on television until the playoffs...??? ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:09, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I usually don't, but it's late and there's nothing on TV. The girls are all asleep. And I thought I'd connect with you cross-country! BTW, that poppy note for the beer is really out of place; I looked but could not find another place in that article. Nice bird you gave me! Drmies (talk) 06:13, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm going to be riding the strand up to Manhattan Beach and maybe Venice Beach tomorrow if you want to come. Then there are gallery openings on Saturday night in Culver City with free booze and snacks. I do love art! ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:18, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

In regard to the Miracle of the roses article, does the phrase refer to a miracle or symbolism? I'm still a little confused. Why is it a miracle that Jesus, and I'm not talking about my torta guy, is pictured with roses? I liked your edit summary by the way. I'm more familiar with pedantic than pedant, but if it's valid I'll give it to you. There's also pissant, pregnant and tyrant. Did you like the Bear Bryant diff? ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:29, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, the phrase really means "miraculously roses appear (instead of something else)," I would say. That they announce the presence of God is a gift from a "one and done" editor, and I guess it works. I don't know if you're much of a Catholic, but it's a real miracle--and then the roses start symbolizing things. (I'm speaking of the 'chronology' of the account--not of the chronology of the world. That is, it wouldn't be roses if roses didn't already signify (stronger than symbolize) God.) How shall I put this? For a good old Catholic, it's always real before it's a symbol. Does that make sense? Speaking of God, the Bear quote was nice of course. There's a play currently at Alabama Shakespeare Festival, here in town, giving some sort of life to the Bear. Hugely popular, I'm sure. I won't be going, got things to do. Oh, for 'pedant,' you'll have to consult the OED. You'll find it terribly appropriate. And leave the refs for your poppy seeds the way you have it; I'll come by and change them around, I can do it purty quick. Hey, bedtime! Have fun tomorrow! Drmies (talk) 06:47, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

A very big Nut Roll Confusion

Good morning.

Now this Nut rollarticle...This article tried to include 5 different pastries, all of them with fillings. Everything which was rolled (or not) and which had some filling with nuts.

  • Strudel, a rolled up pastry with very-very thin layers of yeast dough, filled with apple, quark cheese, sour cherry (Weichselstrudel), sweet cherry and poppy seed strudel (Mohnstrudel) or raisins. There are also savoury strudels incorporating spinach, cabbage and sauerkraut. This is an entirely different thing, with a different kind of dough and style. This pastry resembles the baklava and burek

  • Nut roll, (and poppy seed roll), made with a much thicker yeast dough, a pastry which is also rolled up, with traditionally nut and poppyseed filling.

  • Swiss roll, a sponge cake pastry roll filled with jam or buttercream.
  • Buchteln, a yeast dough bun filled with wery smal amounts of jam or ground nut and not rolled. This is also an entirely different thing, with a different kind of dough and style.
  • Gugelhupf, which are round, ring shaped cakes with a hole in the middle, filled or not with sweet fillings, baked in special cake tins, which are usually round, with a tube in the middle of it. This is a a traditional Austro-Hungarian cake called Gugelhupf in German. These pastries are not nut rolls and the cake potica is a regional Slovenian variant of Gugelhupf. This cake also resembles the Dutch Poffert, a Groningen speciality

The Slovenian Potica was called ‘Traditional Nut Roll’ in the reference given in the article, written by some third generation U:S: Slovenians who mixed things up. Here is that reference.Slovenian Potica (Traditional Nut Roll), deskribing a cake which is not a nut roll, but a Gugelhupf.

About the other reference in the article, Strudla is Strudel, not a roll, but a Strudel, a completely different cake, se a Strudlapicture here, http://www.flickr.com/photos/keigoo/2167813943/ and see the reference given in the article, Štrudla in Serbian; http://www.eudict.com/?lang=croeng&word=strudla, a dictionary stating that Serbian strudla is Strudel in English (which is a loanword from German for this pastry in English.).

Which means that Strudel is not a roll, it is a strudel.

Buchta is not a roll, but this cake, {Buchteln, which means that the redirect is wrong (unless there is a well documented use of the Buchta name , widely used somewhere [where?] for nut roll.

About poppy seed things:

Poppy seed roll is originally an Armenian pastry from the begining. Armenian refugees come to Transylvania and settled there, the same as German Saxons did, and went on exchanging foodstuff, and than via Habsburg Empire everybody get involved, you know...

Warrington (talk) 14:42, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

All this is a result of amateur food enthusiast writing and many incompetent mergings. Merging Poticas, poviticas, makowietz, European and US nut roöös and mixing them like hell. And topping it whith some strudels too.

Cheked refs and merges.

Warrington (talk) 19:26, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

America is known as a "melting pot" after all. Do nut rolls have to have nuts?

God question, I am starting to be in doubt about this...

I have an assignment for you, should you choose to accept... Pick some nice photos for the Pastry article.

OK. But ... Where shall I pick them from??

I thought a Gugelhupf was the predecessor of the bundt cake?

That is what I thougt so to, but go ahead and read the reference on that potica variety there.

You should read the bundt cake article, is it true tha pan was invented in Minnesota???

Of course not, it is an European thing, a very old type of cake Austrian and even French cake, once Marie Antoinette’s favourite, baked in similar cakeforms or Gugelhupfform. The Jews brought this cake to America and it became there the bundt cake. In France is called Baba au rhum and a smaller variety is called Savarin

Did you know we also invented schnitzel, crepes, pizza, sushi, and spatzle?

Yes, and meatloaf and pretzels to.

Oh, and what about Pearson's Candy Company Salted Nut Roll??? Hmmm????

I haven’t got a clue, what is that???? "

Discussion with Drmies

Would this [2] need to be cited? Those crazy Dutch [3].

Man, I miss that so much...last time I was home for Christmas was in 1996, and I skated that time. You run, right? The endorphines you get from running you can get from skating too, but in this sort of wonderland, on the canals that criscross the meadows, and everything is quite. It's a beautiful things. My friends sent me pictures; one of my friends went skating on the IJsselmeer, and that's pretty rare. Thanks for the link! Drmies (talk) 22:54, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Cleanup templates

Just to let you know that most cleanup templates, like "{{Unreferenced}}", "{{Fact}}" and "{{Cleanup}}" etc., are best not "subst"ed . See WP:SUBST for more details. Regards, Rich Farmbrough, 03:34 18 January 2009 (UTC).

Yahoo, eh?

Try reading WP:NPA. Sure, it's boring, but it might do you some good. Anyway, the image in question may have been taken of you, but it depicts copyrighted characters. So, the image would be considered NONFREE. The page in question is a FA, and already has quite a few non-free images, the image must aid in critical commentary. However, the image did not and thus was decorative. Hopefully that clears things up. -- Scorpion0422 05:17, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

The image was taken on a public street. There's certainly no copyright violation in taking a photo of these sculptures or statues or whatever they are. They go to establish and illustrate the pop-culture phenomenon that the Simpsons have become and how they have spread to the mainstream. Plus they look lovely there. Please direct me to where that image would be considered non-free? 05:23, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
There is much more about that kind of thing at Commons. I'm not an expert on fair use image policy, but I have seen quite a few similar images deleted (I once tried uploading an image of the members of the staff that was given to us by Bill Oakley. Unfortunately, that image had a few costumed Simpsons characters in and it was deelted). It's also out of place in the history section. The image is from a side view and Lisa and Maggie can barely be seen. If we were allowed to use such an image, I would rather use this one. -- Scorpion0422 05:32, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
If you don't know a lot about a policy, i think it would be best to think twice before running about preaching to others like you're some kind of expert. Otherwise someone might take you for a yahoo. What is it you wanted me to read about in wp:NPA? I prefer N.W.A. Peace. ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:41, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
I never said I didn't know anything about it, I just said I wasn't an expert. -- Scorpion0422 05:49, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

AfD on Cuisine of Dominica

The article, Cuisine of Dominica has been nominated for deletion as being non-notable. You can participate in the discussion here. --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 03:25, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello, ChildofMidnight. You have new messages at Kelapstick's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

I wanted to opine "keep" as well... specialy after expanding and sourcing her article... but did not want to bump heads with the One Event folks. Your coming aboard has given me the strength of purpose to now change my !vote. As all guidelines say... "with common sense and the occasional exception". Thanks. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 01:06, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Have reversed myself and explined why. In detail. Merge is a last option, as you are correct... for better or worse, she has attained notability. Now it is obvious from the AfD that the article's author wishes a keep... but has not actually entered a keep. Will a closing admin make note of this when going over the opinions? Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 01:29, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the note. After the RfA debacles of the last few days it is a wise person who knows where and when to seperate real life from wiki-life. And I did not know that Kristen might want her fingers painted. Nice. (chuckle). Best, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 02:36, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Thx.

I saw it already, it's older.[4] --KP Botany (talk) 01:08, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

No problem. I've reverted my own edits, then accused myself of vandalism under similar circumstances.... --KP Botany (talk) 01:24, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey, I thought that, after your paranormal trip to New Jersey, you'd be all over this! For the hell of it, you should have a look at the article's history. There was a Vatican UFO conspiracy, apparently. Oh, that reminds me--the Jersey club appealed the deletion, right? Whatever came of that? Drmies (talk) 03:50, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi, CoM. I don't see a discussion at the talk page for the article. But if it's in reference to the "Golden Turd" thing that I see was removed-- it's true. In Japanese it's "Kin no unchi" or "Kin no unko". A quick Google search pulled up lots of hits. This one looks "reliable". Cheers! Dekkappai (talk) 17:59, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Ok, I've just deposited a specimen of my research. :-) Dekkappai (talk) 19:06, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
Was it gilded? ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:11, 20 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm just holding my nose and hoping I haven't put my foot into a steaming pile of controversy over this one... Dekkappai (talk) 19:49, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

I began some... but there's just so damn much to cover. And without yet even looking at the AfD, I can imagine the screams of unreliable. Naturally, with any kind of conspiracy theory, you're not going to find solid evidenciary sources... else it would be "conspiracy fact". Yikes. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 21:01, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

And you'll like my response at the AfD. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 21:12, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

And maybe each of 24 volunteers can take one of the 24 sections and source the heck out it, as many hands make light work. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 21:15, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Feel free to pull off whichever seem more "fringe", as a couple do have decent credibility.. such as Discovery Channel, etc. Looking for them gave me a headache. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 21:35, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Pulled out a couple of the shakier ones. I'm off it for now. Go for it. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 21:42, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

You really surprised me with your gentle (and unexpected) tweaks to User:MichaelQSchmidt/Patrick Skene Catling diff. I had originally thought I screwed something up while editing and reviewing, and so inadvertantly overwrote your changes. However, when Mgm himself said he caught a typo, I looked at the history, realized I had been visited by the evening gnomes (chuckle), and returned you guys' tweaks. Thank you much for looking in. Please come back and have at it... buts its gonna be in mainspace. Watch for this link to turn blue: Patrick Skene Catling. And I don't think I'll be able to find those 1952 reviews quoted in his bio. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 09:07, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

No problem at all. I like that my friends are checking in and helping. Big smiles all around. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 19:49, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, supposedly and by its explanation, Hot Cat is a categorizing tool. I cannot figure it out. But just after I posted the request here, I went to J.K.Rowling and borrowed applicable cats from her. That's the only way I know how, at present. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 20:07, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

You seem to be edit warring on Rashid Khalidi,[6][7] despite an earlier consensus on the language in question, my request not to edit war, and an adminsitrator's warning not to do so.[8] Please self-revert to the consensus version of the article, respect consensus / agreement, and do not edit war here. Thanks, Wikidemon (talk) 20:55, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Please read wp:own. I prefer not to be told what articles I can and can't edit. False accusations such as saying I'm edit warring when I'm not is a clear example of incivility and is very inappropriate. I hope I won't have to report your abuse on Admin boards again. You've been asked repeatedly not to comment here because of your history of incivility and harassment. So I again request that you please abide by your word not to do so. You can leave a note that there's a relevant discussion on the talk page if you want to bring my attention to something. Thanks. ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:01, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Junior Member eh?

Actually I just started putting welcome templates on user pages when I nominate new pages for WP:CSD (can't have the only thing on someones page warnings), and now that I use twinkle and friendly, it does it automatically for me (I also wanted to check out just adding a welcome message to a page, and saw that he hadn't been properly welcomed. And there you go stealing my thunder!). I notice you haven't weighed in on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gpirate.--kelapstick (talk) 03:04, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Timeline AfD?

Hey Child, didn't expect you to come out so strongly there--but I sure appreciate it, and I am sure some others would as well. (But I am not budging on the Vatican one, though you might say there are similarities!) The article does need work, no doubt, and I'm getting on it. BTW, I went to the library, and guess what, there's hardly anything on the shelves about Muslim science or scientists. So either they didn't do much or we don't really care, haha. I'm going to look through some journals. Do you read Nature and magazines like that? OK, I'm going to have a look at those articles you mentioned. Drmies (talk) 03:22, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Technochrist is a goner, as far as I am concerned. I looked and found (Google News) some references on a site called Sound7de--he writes for that site, and has been mentioned in it. It's a magazine with blogging thingies and all, and might could pass notability, but I did not see extensive coverage of his music; he's mainly a writer, I think. And that's all I could find. So go ahead and put it up; that shouldn't be an uphill battle. (I've never cared for Christian rap anyway--I'm more of a Public Enemy kind of guy.) Drmies (talk) 03:29, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
World Day of the Sick is more than likely notable as hell, see this. But it's a not-so-good article, and I have no desire to work on it. I've done my one good deed for the day: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Journal of Black Psychology and some work on the actual article. Drmies (talk) 03:33, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Flight 666? I don't know how you meant this 'treat,' but I'm a Maiden purist--Paul Di'Anno only, please! As for the crystal ball (is that what you had in mind?), I've never much cared for it, but sure, it is a case of that, yes. Drmies (talk) 03:43, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Regarding Poppy seeds

Hi,

I’m happy to get a message from you. Did you notice my talk page? It’s full of warnings. I thought whoever enters my talk page never think of coming back. But you’ve encouraged me. I’m thankful to you.

Bellow I’m giving you some links regarding the use of poppy seeds in different Indian cuisines. You please check it thoroughly.

  • Chachchari is usually a vegetable dish with one or more varieties of vegetables cut into longish strips, sometimes with the stalks of leafy greens added, all lightly seasoned with spices like mustard or poppy seeds and flavoured with a phoron. (See Bengali cuisine)
  • Poppyseed paste cooked with assorted vegetables and/or potato is called Posto. The dish Posto is found also in Bengali cuisine (See Oriya cuisine)
  • The saaru is a gravy prepared with onions, coconut, tamarind, cilantro and a combination of various spices like garlic, ginger, clove, cinnamon, poppy seeds, star anise, fennel, chillies and coriander. (See Cuisine of Karnataka)

(Footage 10:21, 22 January 2009 (UTC))

Troublemaking?

Naaaw. I'll take a lok and see if there is any notability to be found in that unsourced run-on sentence called an article. If there ain't, I'll be back at the AfD to agree with you. If there is... well, then I got lucky and found a piece of gold in that pile. And hell no, you ain't a bad person. No way. No how. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 06:52, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

G'nite. I'll give this one a few hours and then hit the sheets myself. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 07:08, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
I;ll leave you stuff to do... like cleaning og the refs and adding cats. Ref format is the most tiresome. 'Nite. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 07:16, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Thankfully, Drmies LOVES formatting refs. You just have to finish the real editing first, otherwise you can't find any text to edit inbetween the massive citation formattings. Personally, I think it's some kind of secret programming language that's going to take over the world... ChildofMidnight (talk) 07:21, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Drmies?? Goodness, he's so busy with all his many projects. So I did leave you a small chore... after my formatting, cleaning up, wikifying, correctly sourcing, and doing some copyedit. Whew. Can you guess what it is? 'Night. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 08:41, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
That his smoking documentary has and continues to have such notability is pretty much the only needed assertion of notability. As writer/director/producer of that film, he has thus assured his notability in his stated career field. But looking at the article, there is a claim to have won over 50 awards. Further, looking at his works in his bio, he does a lot, and I mean a LOT of commercal work. So his awards will be industry awards... a fact that is likely verifiable, but which awards will likely have notability only within his industry sphere. That's your mission. Source a few of them and change that number 50 to the word "multiple". Luck (This message wil self-destruct in 10 seconds), Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 20:07, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

List of terms of endearment

Yes, I am afraid that I am, falling under the influence of, as you said, a certain Dutch miscreant and well-known trouble maker. I am getting impertinent myself. When I recovered, which term do you prefer: Angel, Cherry Pie, Fluffy Bunny or Schatzi?

Thanks for the help! Just spent 20 minutes of my life straightening out the stupid info box... Listen, you're talking behind my back about me to this Hollywood star--stop that! And don't be spreading lies about my love for formatting--it's not love, it's just compulsion. Hey, that Family Force 5, that would have been a lot easier to clean up if instead of a swamp it had been a mangrove forest, with majestic refboxes rising between the ooze of prose... OK, it is love. Now get back to Iron Maiden, or bikinis, or whatever you're wasting your time on. Later! (PS my latest "ref" project": Dante and his Divine Comedy in popular culture. What fun!) Drmies (talk) 04:14, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Could you take a look and advise...?

Just fixed a double-header: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Stuart Draper for Stuart Draper and a play called To W.H.. I am a bit out of my league with plays and playwrights. You advice would be appreciated. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 05:18, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Whoa, check it out: http://news.google.com/archivesearch?q=%22Kees+Christiaanse%22&hl=en&um=1. Thanks for starting that article. Mind if I drop by every now and then? (OK, I already did.) Drmies (talk) 19:31, 23 January 2009 (UTC)

Eh...aren't you the photo expert? Seriously, I've only ever added pictures I took myself. You know, as great as your start was, and as big (and expensive) as the two things are I just added, it barely scratches the surface--the dude is a building and planning (demi-)God! (BTW, this summer we went swimming around the corner from the Java eiland--that's my old hood!) How did you get onto him? Oh, I didn't find any possible duplicates: the only thing I was concerned about was his firm, KCAP Architecten, and there's no article for that. Hey, thanks again--great work! Drmies (talk) 19:42, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
OK, West 8 is up and running. There is no article on Dutch or German WP for Kees C. or West 8; there is a Dutch article for Geuze (very brief). You think I should translate them to there? I can, I guess--if I can find out how to log in there...:). Listen, I appreciate the prompts and I hope you like the text I've produced. I don't know what to do about pictures and right now don't have the energy to look into it--but you are right, they're pretty boring without pixies.

BTW, you'll be pleased to know that I'm red-blooded American alright: it was warm here (almost 70), so I grilled hamburgers, and we had fries, and then I made ice cream. (And meringues too, you'll have to forgive me for that French excursion.) Have a nice weekend! Drmies (talk) 05:03, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

We're not just a hot dog anymore!

Thanks. Like your poppy seeds. Great article. I was realy missing something like that. Hope you don’t mind that I added some pictures. "Elkhounds rank, 36th in Stanley Coren's The Intelligence of Dogs, being of above average working/obedience intelligence." Well, maybe, that depends on what you mean about working dog, intelligence and obedience.

I think they are intelligent but I am not so sure about the obedience. But they are great working dogs, if that means stopping big beasts about a ton an blocking their way... Golden Retrievers and Labradors are very intelligent and obedient, while Poodles are very intelligent and not always obedient, Vizsla is very obedient but not as intelligent like English Cocker Spaniel, who are intelligent but not always obedient, and Irish Setter is much more obedient and calm and soft in their temperament than all of these, though ranked much lower, who knows why.

Yes, indeed. You need a structure before doing anything. Not necessarily tradionalist, I gave her as an example for someone who is really good with flowers. Many boring gardens are boring because of the lack of diversity, structure and sense of beauty. She got them all, ok, some of it was Lutyens, but anyway. What were you doing at Wave Hill? Important project

Hi MC

Here's an important project that has your name written all over it. Improve the pineapple article to include a "use in cuisine" section. There are tons of important and notable uses of pineapple in cuisine, from Hawaiian pizza to pineapple tarts (important at this time of the year).

Happy eats, Bongomatic 07:50, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Putting pineapple on pizza is sacriligeous and I'm deeply offended that this inappropriate food usage was posted on my talk page. What's next ham in a can called spam? There is an extraordinary pastrami pizza on offer nearby here. There's also a great place for arugula and prosciutto pizza. Of course a good margarita pizza is always a good choice. ChildofMidnight (talk) 08:38, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Hey, I fully agree with you on the pizza issue . . . I'm sure there are reliably sourced views in concordance which I assume you'd dig up. You need to build the straw man to cut him down.
Either way, thanks for the start. I hope there's more in store. Bongomatic 09:06, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Hey CoM, I actually agree with you on this. Since putting pineapple on a pizza is no different, allegorically, from saying "in America everyone has an opportunity to make it" while keeping the policies in place that maintain the current distribution of wealth (that is, a sacrilegious contradiction), I am somewhat surprised to hear you make so much sense. But, eh, why is there spam on my page, and why should I delete it? PS Alton Brown has a great recipe for an upside down pineapple cake (look for the episode "True Grits," at http://www.goodeatsfanpage.com/GEFP/index.htm.) Drmies (talk) 15:46, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
The headline of today's news is: "Obama promotes clean energy, health care in stimulus plan." Obviously we should all plan for a long, deep and dark recession. I'm going for a ride on the strand. Thanks to everyone for your kind friendship and generous humor at my bad jokes. I'm sure I'll have more to say just as soon as I'm back. :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:21, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
This user prefers eating pizza with pineapple.

Call me sacrilegious! ;) Scapler (talk) 18:28, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Uggliness

Ugliness is a property of a person or thing that is unpleasant to look upon and results in a highly unfavorable evaluation. To be ugly is to be aesthetically unattractive, repulsive, or offensive-

You mean gardening?? And putting pineapple on pizza is sacriligeous and blasphemous and also deeply offending. But what the Hungarians do with their pizza is even worse. I never buy pizza with pineapple or corn. I am disapointed about Hungarians. And finally, check the new Pastry images. And what about Phone Call to Putin and ESStonia?

Congratulations! I haven't checked--I hope they cited the bit about the best seeds being Dutch. ;) Hey, I just baked kruidnoten, found in WP under pepernoten. They are very tasty. Oh, and I made chicken tacos--made a spicy rub, grilled and baked the chicken, etc. etc. Good eats, and very American, I might add. As for the health plans: we got the note from the hospital for the delivery (insurance is picking up the tab). Three little percocet pills cost $397.05. Even with the (standard) 80% discount that still adds up to the premium payer getting screwed, without a reacharound. Anything or anyone that can put a stop to hospitals and insurance companies making money that way is fine with me. Of course I wish you and Ayn the best of health! Drmies (talk) 01:57, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
Ha! It's the Sumerian note! You know, when I found that factoid, I was just teaching The Epic of Gilgamesh--so it all falls into place. Hey, thanks for letting me play along with that article. Drmies (talk) 02:01, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: Ayn Rand

Hi COM, just thought I'd acknowledge your comment on my talk page.

JazzFan, if I in any way caused you to stumble into the miasma that is the Ayn Rand discussion I apologize. :) Indeed, her legacy will continue no matter how much "trimming", "summarizing" and "balancing" her opponents pursue.

Actually I found it just nosing around. The mind boggles at some of the nonsense I've seen in here, but ultimately their mewling won't amount to much. I wonder if anyone from the ARI even pays any attention to this article.

Just as semi-humorous pondering, I wonder if TallNap could be excluded from any arbitration process based on his explicit rejection of reason as an absolute, unless of course he can demonstrate what works better, however without resorting to reason to do so.  ;-) .TheJazzFan (talk) 04:07, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Durian

Thanks for the attempt to improve the article, but Durio kutejensis is the name of a species, not a cultivar, so the photo shouldn't be in the cultivar section. And many kinds of fruits are carried in a mesh bag so I don't see what makes the picture special enough to be included in an already crowded article. --BorgQueen (talk) 08:53, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, my mistake. I was thrown by the inclusion of the latin name, but I see it is the same species as the info-box photo.
What other fruits are sold in mesh bags due to their spikey characteristics and a size that makes them difficult to handle otherwise? The photo also illustrates that durians are sold quite far afield where immigrants have come to live, but still seek out foods from their homeland. But if the consensus is against including it, I can live with that. Is it worth discussion on the article's talk page? ChildofMidnight (talk) 08:58, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
I've seen many fruits, small and big, are carried in mesh bags here in Asia. I am sure the bag enables us to carry durians far easier, but could you provide us a source saying that durians are carried in the bags for the spikey characteristics, so we can avoid OR? And yes, I like that the picture was taken in California, which shows the fruit's widespread availability. --BorgQueen (talk) 09:04, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm happy to look for a source on that tomorrow. Have you ever tried to pick up, let alone carry a durian? It's about the only food here sold that way that I can think of, athough onions and garlic might sometimes be packed and sold in mesh (perhaps so they breathe and aren't in humidity?) ChildofMidnight (talk) 09:06, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually durians are often sold in pieces, wrapped in plastic here (as you can see in one of the pictures in the article), so the mesh bag is not a necessity. In some markets they do sell whole durians but sellers cut them into pieces when requested. But I am sure that mesh bags are quite convenient. --BorgQueen (talk) 09:16, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Argh, nevermind. I restored your image and removed the D. kutejensis picture - you are right. There is no need to have two images of the species. --BorgQueen (talk) 09:32, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
No worries. I don't think it's an especially great photo anyway, although it does serve to illustrate a couple of points as we discussed. I did a bit of researching, and while a couple people mention that it can often be hung from a hook at the top of the mesh bag and that the durian has to be handled carefully, I don't see anything specifically about the mesh bag being designed for or specifically discussed as useful for facilitating carriage. But clearly some adaptation to carry whole durian is helpful. The mesh and the hook is also helpful because people sometimes buy durians and hang them to ripen, often outside, and I think the fruit would get extra stinky and funky in a plastic bag where it couldn't breathe. So it's functional in a variety of ways, but as far as sourcing or how it can and should be phrased in the article I can't say at this point. I think a photo of a durian hanging in a mesh bag would be best. Whatever decisions are made, I can live without my photo being used if it's not encyclopedic or helpful. The pancake: filled with implies that the stuff is inside the actual pancake. but i think it is put inside the rolled pancake?

You are mysterious. This is what happens: you make a thin crepe - like round thin fried something, put two big table spoons of jam or marmelade in the middle of it and than start rolling it up from one side untill you get to the other side, result = a rolled up - filled?? - crepes called Palatschinken.

Alternatively you do all this and than put it on fire, but that will not change anything. Warrington (talk) 19:46, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Happy to hear that you liked that source, I found it when trying to find something about that elderberry national dish, which sadly ended its days on Wikipedia. Where is this poppy seed article?

Warrington (talk) 22:36, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Regarding the article that was deleted, I didn't see the dessert mention in the source you've given me.

Neither did I, unfortunately. I know about the confusion flowers-berries, I left some messages for some Slovenian translators about some Slovenian sources I think were right, but nobody answered, and now it is to late. I was thinking about going for the Swedish cuisine, but the problem with Swedish food is that is not specially exciting. Cat Aficionado Association

What do you think about this AfD? Bongomatic 04:46, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

I took a look. But I'm not much of a cat person. The biggest agency in China seems pretty major if it can be sourced. I guess this is old news now. After involving myself in the Korean dog-food issue, I'm laying low on animal stories. ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:15, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

I think I will take a look and see what additional content I can dig up next week, I may have been a little harsh with my "foul swoop" of editing, but wading through it was quite difficult and it sounded like it was written by a player.--kelapstick (talk) 03:19, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
This speaks to well of the editing collaboration of the Brighton Panthers football team (or at least #10), which may be worthy of a redirect to University of Brighton. Adminship

I have been watching you ever since the first time we talked and after going through your edits over the last couple months, I want you to start considering whether or not you would be interested in being an administrator. I personally think that you are ready right now, but there are a lot of RfA lurkers that would shoot you down just because of your short, albeit prolific, amount of time on the project. I just want you to know that a month from now, if you are interested, I would quite happily nominate you for an RfA. You have done an incredible job in a very short amount of time and I hope (once again) that you don't burn yourself out from working too hard. Trusilver 20:16, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Sorry I haven't replied. I guess I'm too stunned to know what to say. If (when?) you come to your senses, feel free to refactor the craziness you've proposed and have it oversighted if necessary. No harm no foul. :) If the message is still here in the not too distant future when I have finally managed to compose some semi-coherent thoughts on the idea, I intend to provide a response. Oh, and don't worry about my working too hard. I'm focused on avoiding that fate at any and all costs. ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:23, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey Child! The funniest thing--browse aroud on the Dutch WP, and you'll see thousands of stubs, and even fully-fledged articles (nl:Claw Boys Claw for instance--compare to my Claw Boys Claw) are allowed to live even though completely unreferenced. And now someone is proposing deletion for nl:West 8, which I translated and brought over. Lots of words, 15 references, etc., and the nominator said in the AfD "work in progress." That's all it said. I've left them a note asking what's wrong with it, and we'll see. Hey, I hope you had a good weekend and that you ate some good stuff. I've discovered something new--the homemade Mexican (well, Tex-Mex, I imagine) section of The Joy of Cooking. Made some hot, hot chicken. Tasty! Drmies (talk) 15:54, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Your new title

I like the one that is there, I particularly like the multiple jug shot, I think we should have the stacked square jugs and maybe some crates too if we can too though. And the title heading in the last heading should have been MB (Manitoba) not MN (Minnesota).--kelapstick (talk) 19:02, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
What is a Manitoba? ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:04, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
HAHA please tell me you are joking, I heard a story where a guy was driving in the US with Manitoba license plates on his car and the state trooper pulled him over and said "I got two questions for you son, do you know how fast you were going and what the hell is a Manitoba (pronounced man-it-ah-bah)?".--kelapstick (talk) 19:11, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, I see that "Handsome Dick" Manitoba is actually from my neck of the woods. And his article says it was a big fight to keep the Manitoba name from this guy Daniel Victor Snaith. And then I see there's the Manitoba computer chip. But I think I heard something about the Manitoba you're talking about. Isn't it somewhere inbetween Vancouver and Toronto? :) Do you think we can dig up enough sources to make Snickers salad happen? ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:18, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

I wouldn't know how Harper is holding out, since I am living in the States I missed the whole "let's topple the government because the want to cut our political subsidies" debacle (thank goodness). I got to experience first hand this US election, the build up to it, it was very eye opening, but whenever anyone refers to Obama (check the link, seriously) as a socialist I ask them if they have ever heard of Jack Layton, now there is socialism at its finest! Hard to believe to some people but the Democrats are more conservative than the Conservative Party of Canada--kelapstick (talk) 20:05, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

My mistake, El Presidente is not a socialist like those on the Canadian left. He's just a man of the people rescuing us from the turmoil and job creation that happens when competitive small and large businesses are allowed to innovate and profit in a dynamic free market economy. :)

Child, what's up? I saw your work on West 8--nice. I made a minor tweak or two (one to get rid of the cn tag). The Dutch version was blacklisted because of POV issues; that the praise in the article came right out of the sources was no matter (nominator didn't look at those, I guess, since, ahem, Dutch WP articles often don't have any), and the punishment there for having an issue like that is to send the article right to AfD. A bit crude, in my opinion. Oh, Kronos Quartet discography is almost finished. Care to have a look? I hope you feel better soon, if you don't already. Yep, those things are true. Fortunately I live right in the middle of the 21st century, where we are so advanced that, fortunately, I can't safely take my kid for a walk around the block cause we did away with sidewalks (to keep the riff-raff out) and where, happily, I can't ride my bike to school or to day care. Can't you just put the kids in the Chevrolet Suburban and go to 24 Hour Fitness like the rest of us? Indeed, I have faced many frustrations with the lack of sidewalks. LA is terrible for getting around on foot (let alone on a bicycle) and that's something I miss about NY. Of course Mies, Dr. needs to explain why he didn't get a smaller place in "town"? Certainly the Europeans are accustomed to small apartments and the cold stone of castle keeps. ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:02, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

I've been trying to get caught up with some projects I had on the back burner. My most important contribution to Wikipedia by far is the Snickers salad article. I'm mighty proud of my work there. Now it just needs a nice photo. Maybe you can whip up a batch and take a pic for me? :)
Also I want to get some photos for the architecture articles I've been working on. Are you going to be in the Netherlands anytime soon? I haven't heard much from our Russian friend. I imagine they're none too happy about the drop off in oil prices. On the other hand, reliable sources indicate we're joining the Union of Socialist States American, so maybe our friendship will deepen? Vaya con Dios amigo. Heavy handed with the welcome template

Could you have chosen a larger one, I don't think that gets the point across...--kelapstick (talk) 04:17, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

I've asked for some flash animations to be included, but the tech department has a backlog. The most important part of that template is that each letter of the alphabet is linked. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:19, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Could you please link to it? I'm curious now! Best, --A NobodyMy talk 04:23, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Here it is. I was going to put it on your page, but I didn't want to get a vandalism warning. Also, everytime I put one up Wikipedia slows down and I get those error messages about backlogs and the Wikifoundation needing more money to upgrade the servers. But let me know if you want one. Putting them on people's pages is one of my favorite activities. I like the spinny thing:

You're not the first to note how much bigger mine is than yours. Now you know why Kelapstick is so upset. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:46, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Excuse my language but HOLY SHIT. That thing puts the Las Vegas Strip to shame. I'm expecting to see dancing Jimbos come in from off-screen. Trusilver 04:50, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
I see the "Most visited articles" link is down. Looks like I'll have to send this beast into the shop. It's a hybrid though, so it only uses half the wikiresources of other GWTs. ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:15, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

For anyone interested

I spun off the Black presidents article (deleted) into Black presidential candidates in the United States and Black president in popular culture. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:14, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

And I understand that the preferred terminology is African American, but these are mostly historical articles, so I'm not really sure how that's handled. Calling someone who was a black presidential candidate an African American candidate seems kind of revisionist to me. But I'm open to suggestions on how that's dealt with appropriately. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:34, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Unbeknownst to me the original article was being discussed at a DRV here Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2009 January 26#Black President (United States). I've seperated the awkwardly attached twins and recreated the article as two slightly modified new ones (as a few of the delete voters suggested). These new articles are also now being discussed, but I expect they will stand. The seperation has eliminated some of the major problems that existed with the previous article. Anyone who wants to weigh in is welcome to it. Just don't get me in trouble. I find enough on my own. ChildofMidnight (talk) 07:39, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Another part of the article has also been spun off into African-American heritage of United States presidents which needs some serious work. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:08, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Mesh bags

So now you believe me, eh? :-D I think frozen mangosteens are supposed to be eaten frozen, like a sorbet - you are not supposed to defrost them. (I am not 100% sure) --BorgQueen (talk) 09:12, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Don't think that they're intended to be eaten frozen. See http://www.chillyfruits.com/. Bongomatic 14:47, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Muslim timeline

I hadn't noticed it was deleted; I lost interest a bit, though I actually did go to the library. Sourcing, I believe I may have told you, was a problem; the article itself, I think, had a right to exist. But I really had a problem with some of the respondents in the AfD discussion--there was the suggestion that science is totally value-free and that heritage was not something to be discussed, let alone celebrated (when it's not white or European, that is). I'm sticking to Dante and Kronos for now, since I can work on those articles in a piecemeal fashion. BTW, I got shot down again--see [[12]]. Frustrating. Drmies (talk) 17:10, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Poppy seeds, the moon and pastries

Yes I lnew about the Moon Goddess thing but I did not realise that it may be added before I tried to find a way to explain those jars, it looks a bit weird with a German text on English Wikipedia There are other mooncakes too, not filled with poppy seed. The night on August 15 in China is also called “Night of the Moon”, as the moon is brighter than usual and on this day moon admiring, moon cake eating at family reunions and moon celebration is a must for all Chinese. Wonder what happens if it is raining...?Warrington (talk) 19:41, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Moopsy

Hello! Is that dog yours? I ask, because I am particularly fond of that breed of dog. Best, --A NobodyMy talk 07:33, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

It's on loan from user:Drmies so he'll have to explain where it's from. It may be a stray he found wandering Wikipedia. Do you prefer it to the Boobie I put on his page? Neither one seems much use with a Frisbee®, but maybe looks are deceiving... ChildofMidnight (talk) 07:51, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, you'll notice I uploaded the image at Basset_hound#Popular_culture. Anyway, you currently have my favorite userpage for that reason alone! Best, --A NobodyMy talk 08:21, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
We had a dog like that for a while (while my brother in law was in Iraq, and my sister in law in Afghanistan...). His name was Oliver, and he and I had a love-hate relationship. He was nice, but also kind of stupid. Anyway, he moved to Mississippi, where he was killed by a truck a few months ago. I kind of miss him, though the house is a lot cleaner now and the yard is a lot less dug up. He did look exactly like Mooopsy. Oh, he was no use with frisbees or balls, though he would take the ball from Sadie (our darling mutt) whenever she brought it back; sometimes he'd wait for her, halfway (he was a bit lazy), and then try to jump her. Ha, Sadie totally made him her bitch and humped him. Really funny! Drmies (talk) 17:06, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
The funniest thing I have seen on Wikipedia as of late that actually made me laugh (it is hard to make me laugh...) is Wikipedia:Talk_page_highlights#Talk:Orange_.28fruit.29 (for the full "discussion" see Talk:Orange_(fruit)/Archive_1#Unflattering_Picture_of_a_Sectioned_Orange). Check out Bacon Explosion . . . your improvements welcome. Bongomatic 14:32, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Bacon is my favorite vegetable

Ever try bacon wrapped scallops, or bacon wrapped asparagus with balsamic reduction....mmmmmmm bacon...And this is for fans of both bacon and woot.com.--kelapstick (talk) 17:45, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Oh my God! I just realized that is Bacon Wrapped Bacon...Can you imagine such a world...Kind of like Chicken fried chicken (which I can not believe doesn't have an article.)--kelapstick (talk) 17:47, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
What is chicken fried chicken? ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:06, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Red→blue like magic. See http://www.texascooking.com/recipes/chickenfriedchicken.htm.
I tried chicken fried steak twice (made it once), I am looking to get sources for an actual chicken fried chicken article though.--kelapstick (talk) 18:33, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
I was a little disappointed with thehicken fried chicken recipe as it's just a play on words of chicken fried steak. I was hoping it was some kind of double chicken thing, like a chicken fried inside a chicken or something. Have you ever had Turduckin? It still may be worth an article or at least a mention in the chicken fried steak article. Isn't milk often a batter ingredient? ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:37, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
We had turduckin at my sisters wedding, I tried to convince them to wrap it in pig, and than in a cow but no one would bite. It was often mispronounced as cherfucken, which is now the general kelapstick name for it. The milk gravy is a country gravy, more white, a la biscuits and gravy--kelapstick (talk) 18:43, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
You have some great ideas. You cook it. I'll eat it. We get someone to write it up. And wa la: notable article on cowpigturduckin. Sounds fabulous. What cut of meat would you use for the pork and cow meat? Maybe just wrap the whole thing in pork ribs and then a flank steak? I don't think it would cook right. These are challenging time... ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:47, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
I was a bit shocked to see that The Joy of Cooking (my new bible) actually has a recipe for suckling pig--but I think kelapstick's idea is great, at least to the extent of pigturducken. Chicken fried steak is delicious by the way, and to prove that point I'll make it next week. Gravy and all! Drmies (talk) 22:35, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
My big issue is why the rest of the country (let alone the world) hasn't caught onto sweet tea. So you guys are thinking the turduckin can go inside a whole pig? Do you smoke the whole thing? Deep fry? ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:45, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, we're talking about the size of a suckling pig. Too big too fry--but not too big for a pit! Drmies (talk) 01:30, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi CoM, I removed the see also items in this article because they are alreay linked in the article. Is there some overridding reason to list them again? Thank you and also feel free to delete this and take it to the article's talk page where I have already commented on this. Cheers! --Tom 17:20, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Okay. Mentioning that in the edit summary would have been helpful. You also removed the reflist, so it didn't look like a good edit. Cheers. ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:27, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, I usually try to mention my MOS editing in the edit summary. If I removed the reflist, that was in error and I apologize. Thanks for the reply. --Tom 17:42, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks...

For this edit.[13] A considerable improvement. Wikidemon (talk) 20:11, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

I must humbly disagree with you, I first off do not believe the "commonality" of this emoticons can be properly sourced, and the page also consists of little but definitions. However, as it is useful information I think it would be a shame to lose, I have proposed what I think is a good solution at the deletion debate, and have copied the article into my userspace at User:Scapler/emoticons.

Also, I was not working on anything LEET related, but I do remember that MidKnightHunter was thinking of working on an article about something entitled "Leetworld". Cheers! (and good job with all your recent DYKs!) Scapler (talk) 22:34, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up on that. It looks like the tool no longer exists on the toolserver. I will see if I can find out where it has gone and update the template accordingly. – ukexpat (talk) 22:57, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Tannu Tuva

I understand why you wanted to move the Tuva stamp article, but the title used, although lengthy and ungainly, is standard form for philatelic articles. See Category:Postage stamps by country. Regards. Ecphora (talk) 23:33, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

I got some good references for the camels and locomotives and incorporated that into the article. It's even better than I had thought, there wasn't even a railway in Tuva for the camels to race against! I revised the article some to point that out. You might want to work that into the DYK hook. Thanks for the help. Ecphora (talk) 00:08, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
I tried tweaking the DYK, but any additional help would be appreciated. Regards Ecphora (talk) 00:21, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Woohoo! I've been called a new name--"cocksmoker"! Surely that's metaphorical, right? Drmies (talk) 23:46, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

So NPOV it's scary

Wow, I am feeling incredibly bipartisan right now, realizing I have now created both Category:Speeches by Barack Obama and Category:Speeches by Ronald Reagan. Hmmm.... anyway, sorry for the waste of time, cheers! Scapler (talk) 00:16, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

When Obama makes a notable speech that will be a good place to add it. :) In the meantime, I hope the Category:Speeches by Ronald Reagan will give Drmies a chance to review the great speeches of our time. ChildofMidnight (talk) 00:32, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem. Government is the problem.
One of many things he got wrong. The quality of this assertion lies only in its chiasmus, or, if you're a stickler, its antimetabole. "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall"--sounded great, of course, though he could only say it because G. had started that process long before. See, I'm not feeling very bipartisan at all! I got capital, and I'm gonna spend it! Drmies (talk) 00:52, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
A strong case could be made that Gorbachev came to power in large part as a response to Reagan's leadership. ChildofMidnight (talk) 00:56, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Government can and must provide opportunity, not smother it; foster productivity, not stifle it... It is no coincidence that our present troubles parallel and are proportionate to the intervention and intrusion in our lives that result from unnecessary and excessive growth of government. It is time for us to realize that we're too great a nation to limit ourselves to small dreams. We're not, as some would have us believe, doomed to an inevitable decline. I do not believe in a fate that will fall on us no matter what we do. I do believe in a fate that will fall on us if we do nothing. So, with all the creative energy at our command, let us begin an era of national renewal. Let us renew our determination, our courage, and our strength. And let us renew our faith and our hope.
We have every right to dream heroic dreams. Those who say that we're in a time when there are no heroes, they just don't know where to look. You can see heroes every day going in and out of factory gates. Others, a handful in number, produce enough food to feed all of us and then the world beyond. You meet heroes across a counter, and they're on both sides of that counter. There are entrepreneurs with faith in themselves and faith in an idea who create new jobs, new wealth and opportunity. They're individuals and families whose taxes support the government and whose voluntary gifts support church, charity, culture, art, and education. Their patriotism is quiet, but deep. Their values sustain our national life.
...It is time to reawaken this industrial giant, to get government back within its means, and to lighten our punitive tax burden. And these will be our first priorities, and on these principles there will be no compromise.
Oh and What about G Dub's speeches? I hope you haven't misunderestimated those. Are they already a category? <insert sarcastic comment here> ChildofMidnight (talk) 00:35, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

"Just when I thought I was out . . ." Bongomatic 04:05, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Hahahaha that's exactly what I was thinking of... Okay I'm ready for a Minnesotan cuisine category. I think it's a great idea. What do I do? ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:09, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

The lines of food culture are sometimes stark [14]. :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:26, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I was really thinking about an expandable template à la Template:Alcoholic beverages--you need to start with something like that, put in the categories you think are relevant, add the wikilinks (red and blue), and slap it on the relevant pages that exist. Might want to check if there is already a template for Traditional or Home-Style American Food, or the like. Bongomatic 04:34, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
I don't exactly know what any of what you said means. But it sounds awesome. What about the templates to the right of pages? Sometimes they kind of get in the way though. I'd be happy at this point just having a Minnesotan cuisine category. Baby steps Bongo, baby steps. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:42, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Entonces, aqui COM!

I just realized there's a place not too far from here that sells dessert bars. It's half Midwesterners here in LA. Some of those look good. How do you get them Scap? Do you have to ask them to change the license to allow commercial use? ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:07, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
They are only not allowed to be used for commercial use if they are labeled with Scapler (talk) 04:36, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
However, I only gave you links to ones with licenses already compatible with use on Wikipedia. On every flickr page, near the bottom right, licensing info is given. An image with or next to it is fair game (or it says "no rights reserved"). This images are already licensed under a creative commons license. For further instruction see [[18]]. If you want, I would be happy to upload any images you want on my commons account. Cheers! Scapler (talk) 04:35, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Yeah man, 17 and 19. Not perfect, but let's roll! I intend to put a bar gallery on that page anyway. Each and every bar type MUST be illustrated. And what if it's some rights reserved? You let it go? ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:39, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Good thing you do not want 18, because I missed it the first time, but it cannot be used for profit, and is thus ineligible for the pedia. As for 17 and 19, they are good to go, and the "some rights reserved" for them simply means that the original author must be mentioned, and all reproductions of the image also licensed under Creative Commons as well. The image description page here gives due credit to the author, so that is covered. I will upload them later. For now, those of us here on the east coast must head for sleep. G'night and cheers! Scapler (talk) 04:56, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

For some photos of West 8 architecture examples that are licensed under Creative Commons, see these:

[19] [20] [21] [22] [23] [24] [25]

Let me know if you want any of them! Cheers! Scapler (talk) 01:44, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Sorry I could not find anything for Kees Christiaanse or FAT, all the ones on flickr for FAT weren't suitable for Wikipedia... Scapler (talk) 01:47, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Wow! Thanks Scap. That was very generous of you. This one might be easier. Can you illustrate my latest piece de resistance Dessert bars? ChildofMidnight (talk) 02:31, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
CoM, love the articles. Suggest you use {{cite book}} and {{cite news}} templates when adding references--it's super-easy to get into the habit, and much easier to do when they're first written rather than after the fact. Bongomatic 03:09, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Agreed, I used to use MLA format, but even though it is an acceptable format here, it confused people, best to standardize, hooray! Scapler (talk) 03:18, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Sorry about the edit conflicts Bongo. Did you notice that I at least "named" my references? My personal preference is for all articles to have the notes and then references format. That way multiple quotes can be included. I like quotes and extra tidbits. What is Scapler hooraying at? ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:20, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
You guys have convinced me to use the system I employed here Bill Scott (author). No wacky out of order citation numbers. I can add as many quotes as I want to. I don't have to put comma in out of order names. You have inspired me. Scapler where are my seven-layer bar photos??? ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:35, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
That's just horrible. You may have to be blocked. Bongomatic 03:46, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Dr. Deletion...

Hey CoM, what do you think of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Max Magnus Norman? I'm having a bit of a dispute with the nominator, which I hope I explained well enough in the AfD--s/he has deleted a bunch of the references, I restored some of them, but not a contentious one, which you'll find in the AfD and in the article's history. Please have a look and tell me I didn't try to beef up the article in an underhand manner. If the article is to go because all the coverage is too local, I can live with that. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 20:45, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm going to follow it. Hopefully other people will weigh in. What do you make of the efforts to scrub or kill this Phone Call to Putin article? ChildofMidnight (talk) 23:15, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
I've seen that AfD once or twice and read the comments, but didn't care enough, or didn't feel knowledgeable enough...but I'll have another look. Drmies (talk) 04:41, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

DYK

Did you know...That Black president in popular culture (United States) was created on 17 January 2009, and therefore doesn't qualify for Did you know?--kelapstick (talk) 00:51, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

or is it eligible since it was moved to your user space, deleted and recreated...I am not sure...--kelapstick (talk) 00:55, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Roger that good buddy. I checked with Dravecky. It should qualify as a new article. The history was maintained per GFDL and we should spell that out in the nom. But as that article was deleted, this is a new article (George Orwell are you listening?). So I'm pretty sure it qualifies. And indeed it has some of the old article's content, but it's not the same article and has been expanded so I think we should be good. Nice move by the way. OK, well you are going to have to put it up as I am out the door to get some pizza, and go home, but the UTC clock looks like it is the 31st, so I don't know if you get under the wire!--kelapstick (talk) 01:01, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Make sure to get some pasta with it. Better yet put the pasta right on top of the pizza. It's a Canadian specialty adaptation of Pizza-ghetti. You can mix in poutine too if you want. Ummmm and, you've been working? ChildofMidnight (talk) 01:05, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Not very hard.--kelapstick (talk) 03:18, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah well, I would say it pretty much goes without saying... ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:34, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

What two monographs are you referring to? (I ask for tweaking...) Drmies (talk) 04:40, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

The ource doesn't mention their names. Did I forget to include the link? ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:45, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
No, I see the source now. I'll browse Google Books again, in order to add a brief, or selected, bibliography. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 04:52, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Problem with Gbooks, too much crap! So the Library of Congress to the rescue. I don't know if these are the two, but it's all the LoC had. Hey, if you don't like the headings (I wanted a bit more organization), feel free to change them. And pictures would be great... BTW, you should come to Amsterdam with me. I'll show you around, esp. these yuppie areas, former industrial sites or ghettos, where KC and W8 put up all these spectacular buildings. Drmies (talk) 05:00, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
I have a good friend living over there. I contacted a Dutchian guy on Flikr about hooking us up with photos. We'll see. Where's Scapler when I need him??? ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:04, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

New articles

If someone wants to check out the new articles [26] created by this user that would be great. Thanks. ChildofMidnight (talk) 09:23, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Gratin

[27]. I've reverted this edit. One speaks to the origin of the dish itself, the other to the origin of the name for it. Because cultural borrowings in Europe are common, I think we should be clear that both the dish itself, as well as the name for it, are of french origin. It's may look redundant, but it says two different things. Often Stranger Than Fiction has been found to be a sock of the Other Hand/Believe It Or Not, and can be disregarded, as he's using socks to advance the same agenda he previously used socks for. ThuranX (talk) 12:22, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the statement of support on my talk regarding this article; the socker is already back with yet another contribution. What a royal pain in the ass. If he'd use talk like a normal human, instead of alternating between bizarre sock conversations with himself and imperious declarations of 'you're all wrong and idiots' things would go much better there. Now if only I could find a way to really prevent all his 'classism' based edits there. ThuranX (talk) 21:51, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Since you've neutrally contributed to it in the past, I thought you might want to look in once more on the article's present state and current RfC. arimareiji (talk) 14:50, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

New DYK template for nominations

Hi,

I've been working, somewhat at Gatoclass's behest, to develop a new version of {{DYKsug}} that doesn't leave so much junk on the nominations page (partly just to be tidier, partly to reduce the page's byte count and, hopefully, its load time). The new template is complete and located at {{NewDYKnomination}} ({{NewDYKnom}} also works). It is used in almost the exact same way as the current template (the only difference being that |creator= and |expander= have been merged into a single |writer= parameter, since there seems to have been confusion in the past about the difference between these two); there is more discussion of the new template at Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Archive 39#New template for nominations--please provide feedback if you have a moment and Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Archive 39#Working on a better nomination template.

Since you do a lot of work vetting nominations, you are one of the people who will be most affected by the template change (although the effect shouldn't be very big...the main difference is just that this template is less complicated and the format will look a bit different), so I am hoping to hear your thoughts before I go ahead with making the switch from the current system to this one. The links I provided above have permalinks to examples of what the template will look like when used; you are also free to experiment with it in a sandbox.

Thank you, Politizer talk/contribs 15:53, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Oops, sorry...the old examples are bad, since I have made a change since then. Here is a new, better example (and here is what it looks like in the edit window). Politizer talk/contribs 16:02, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Your comments on the Next Generation 9-1-1 article

Thank you very much! I appreciate all the links and suggestions, and will use them. I had read a bit about the mentoring thing, but went back and looked more closely after you suggested I seek a mentor. Thanks - I'm going to take advantage of that. I do have some questions, but will ask my mentor when I have one. I think I can make some contributions with some help, and would feel honored if I could do so. Again, thank you for your input and help, and for your considerable contributions to this excellent Wikipedia concept! NextGen911 (talk) 18:18, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Mmm

Christmas roast

Thanks for trying to save the Dutch Christmas dinner! Maybe we would need a Dutch expert on adding some typical Dutch Christmas food. There is basically nothing mentioned about it. I know Dutch like more Sinterklaas, but surely they celebrate Dutch Christmas somehow? Warrington (talk) 20:33, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

We do, Gourmet (gross as it may be) is a Dutch christmas tradition. However, the list added with beef, glazed ham, duck etc. lacks any connection with my experience in the Netherlands (I have lived there more than 35 years). I have not seen these products especially prominent in December ever; so I seriously doubt that these products are indeed typically Dutch Christmas food.
Whether it does or not, does not matter at all however, as by deleting the addition I have implicitly (ad now explicitly) asked for a reference supporting the list, as I have every right (and even obligation) to do following WP:TRUTH. So please do not place these products back without a reliable reference as that would go against one of the core policies of Wikipedia. Arnoutf (talk) 21:44, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, I was not the genius who come up with this list, it was in the Christnas dinner article. And adding references – there is no point in that, either you are eating it or not, you should know that better than me, I never spent any Christmas in the Netherlands.

Warrington (talk) 21:58, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

I think we should not discuss this on a user talk page, thank you for notifying me where you got this from; I think it is not true, so asked for references in that article. Arnoutf (talk) 22:10, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Anyway, this one says: h ttp://dutch-history.suite101.com/article.cfm/christmas_in_the_netherlands Christmas Eve. For a main course at Christmas dinner, roast goose may be served, or turkey, or perhaps venison or rabbit.

This one says: http://dutchfood.about.com/od/dutchholidayrecipes/a/Kerstfeest.htm These meals could include game meats, roast pork, fondues or gourmetten. Turkey is not part of the feast in Holland. Typical Dutch Christmas treats include: • Kerstkransjes (Christmas wreath cookies) • Kerststol (fruited Christmas loaf) • Kerstkrans (a wreath shaped pastry decorated with glace fruits and filled with sweet almond paste) • Banketstaaf or banketletters (pastry logs or letters filled with sweet almond paste) • Jan Hagel cookies (a fragrant and flaky Christmas cookie) • Speculaas (spiced cookies) • Marzipan • Advocaat

Now do they eat turkey or not??????

Warrington (talk) 23:20, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Merry Christmas, or as the Dutch say, Vrolijk Kerstfeest.

Hello, ChildofMidnight. You have new messages at Ikip's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
Went setting back text, please make sure that you read the reference so the text faithfully reflects the source (none of the sources mentions duck, beef, or glazed ham) AND add the reference to the main text article. Sources in the talk page are not worth anything in relation to verifiability of a claim. Thanks Arnoutf (talk) 11:02, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
    • Hey Warrington, I think your answer is right there--no turkey. Traditional (though this is often wishful thinking) is game, like some of the things mentioned up there. Who would want to eat turkey in the first place? Drmies (talk) 17:03, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi Child of Midnight. We may have gotten started on the wrong footing with this Dutch Christmas dinner issue, but let me assure you, my itention is always only to improve Wikipedia; not to make my point, remove content, vandalise articles or such kind of things. Considering your own edits (I have been looking around a bit) you are a good editor, not out to make trouble. This is also clear from your recent tweaking (tnx) on Dutch Cuisine you seem not to be having hard feelings about my changes. So let's this wrong starting not stand between us if we ever meet again. Cheers Arnoutf (talk) 17:30, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

No worries. I'm not a grudge holder. I understood your point. But I also thought giving examples was useful and that it gave an idea that the dinner main dish was variable. I thought this was better than nothing and if someone wanted to change the wording or eliminate it they could source their change rather than asking others to source what was already there. It's tough to play defense a lot... If you have a chance could you have a look at the 1980s and 1990s articles and see what you think over the wordings beings pushed back and forth? ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:40, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Re the 1980's. You could strengthen your point with a reference calling Ceausescu a dictator....... but how hard can that be ;-) These ref from the Ceasescu article may help:Juliana Geran Pilon, The Bloody Flag. Post-Communist Nationalism in Eastern Europe. Spotlight on Romania, ISBN 1-56000-062-7; ISBN 1-56000-620-X / John Sweeney, The Life and Evil Times of Nicolae Ceauşescu, ISBN 0091746728 / Stelian Tănase, "Societatea civilă românească şi violenţa" ("Romanian Civil Society and Violence"), in Agora, issue 3/IV, July-September 1991. But please check them as I pulled them out without reading!.
Re 1990's The other editor doubts your reference and wants to say "according to REF" this happens. That is not enough, you provided a reference; to show opposing POV's now the other editor has to provide (an at least equally reliable) reference saying the opposite. In that case, of course, something interesting is going on. Good luck there. Arnoutf (talk) 17:56, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Dravecky (talk) 14:09, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Details details. I was trying to use their Governor's Island project as the hook, but it wasn't deemed impressive enough... As all the sources are in Dutch, who knows what they've done. Is it true the Dutch traditionally eat McDonalds for Christmas? Ve spreet de heelberflau! ChildofMidnight (talk) 16:19, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Why did the Dutch give a nickname to a bridge that wasn't built? Who do we ask to tweak that hook so it says designed a bridge for instead of whatever it says now? ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:36, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Did you see the picture of the bridge on that Archned page that's footnoted there? That explains it well enough. And I don't know about tweaking--it's all water under the bridge now, isn't it. The article says they submitted the design for the bridge; the problem with DYK is that it said "designed the bridge"--but that's not the one what was built, as far as I could ascertain. Ah well. Listen, the one DYK I got before, for Miracle of the roses, didn't just screw up the factoid--someone rewrote the lead and totally screwed up the account. So...what's next? Dutch Christmas? ;) Drmies (talk) 21:09, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Now I have. Which one got built? Or are people stuck on the island and can't get off? Is there at least a ferry? All I see is a bunch of stuff about "slag" and "Papendorpse". Do these things go well with pompelmous? ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:23, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Haha, check this one out: [29]. And he got blocked indefinitely for that??? Tsk tsk... Drmies (talk) 05:16, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Best to AGF and that he thought those people wanted to change their decision. ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:20, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, you know, I can understand people getting frustrated, but I can't really understand frustration in those terms. Then there's a whole bunch of FUs he put on his own talkpage... But maybe you're right, maybe he knows me better than I know myself. I'll go change my vote to neutral... And maybe I am a former "servicer" and don't know about it? Wow... OK, I'm getting silly (though not as silly as you), it's getting late. Drmies (talk) 05:23, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Ha, after being blocked he came back as a sock, and let me express the words I didn't dare say myself: [30]. Charming! Oh, look at his sock's talk page, User_talk:George6495. Remember I was involved in that running man AfD? That was nothing! OUCH! He had two socks: [31]. Busted by Kelapstick--woohoo! Drmies (talk) 04:33, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
OK, this is way worse than running man--look at the sock getting nasty. Drmies (talk) 04:37, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

No problem

Sorry that those photos were late in coming; I was not near a computer for most of the weekend. Of course, on Sunday I had to watch my Steelers go all the way! Yes! Oh, and my work on The Green Bible was mainly because I heard something about it on the Glenn Beck program, decided to find out about it here and, after finding no article, I created it instead. Cheers! Scapler (talk) 21:00, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

I trust you can provide a logical explanation of why you were watching Glenn Beck. ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:55, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
I wasn't watching at all, I was listening. His radio program is way more entertaining anyway. Scapler (talk) 21:59, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Flickr photos

AWESOME! Thanks! Bongomatic 06:40, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

I have uploaded two more photos: for Wiel Arets and for, well, Bacon explosion. I plan to crop the Bacon explosion picture with photoshop later to cut out that annoying knife and focus on the dish, but, at least for a few days, that one is it. Scapler (talk) 02:55, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Wow Scaps! Thanks a lot. That photo for Wiel Arets is great! My next project is Tony Fretton if you can find anything... I really appreciate your help. Bongo will be thrilled with the photo for his bacon project. He seems to fancy bacon and pineapple, some kind of polynesian thing? I saw there's some kind of photo lab project within Wikipedia that might be willing to do some tweaks. If you know how that works can you get them to rotate some of the photos I've uploaded? When I rotate them on my computer it wrecks the image quality, but maybe I can figure something out. I try not to mess with my CPU too much because the gerbils running the flywheel are finnicky, so I'm reluctant to muck around too much with software. ChildofMidnight (talk) 05:29, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Reed Cowan

At my request, the closing Admin userfied it to User:MichaelQSchmidt/sandbox_Reed_Cowan and suggested I contact the delete votes who had no opportunity to comment before it was deleted. I should have been faster, as it went onlt 25 minutes after I had addressed concerns at the AfD. I removed the DRV tag from Adam Cowan after the closer suggested I ask those others to comment on what they had missed seeing. I do think that taking this to DRV will be the likely result... but the closer is wiling to listen before I do so. A genial situation. What is your own advice.... as I have never had to take something to DVR before. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 04:55, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Understood. I will have no problem recreating the article... and will expect an "AfD of a recently deleted article"... and look forward to comments at a new AfD. Though editors are encouraged to improve articles during the course of an AfD, if no one comments on the improvements, and the article gets deleted 25 minutes later... it kinda makes that "encouragement to improve" seem quite hollow. With respects to the closer, I might at least have hoped for a relisting since the article had been improved to meet the AfD concerns. By looking at the discussion only... and not the article's improvements 25 minutes before deletion... the closer acted in complete good faith. I have no expectation that a closer will review the article to see if opinions have been addressed or not. An honest and well intentioned error perhaps... but very much nade in good faith. However, I do not expect any of the delete comments to reverse themselves, as they have gotten what they wanted. A DRV is likley within the next few hours. Actually... I wil wait 25 minutes from my last request for review from those who opined delete on the earlier version. 25 minutes is a nice fair length of time. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 05:26, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Oops... I forgot to watch the clock. My request for input from Arbiteroftruth was at 4:17. My request for input from Carlossuarez46 ‎was at 4:25. And my request for input from Bongomatic was at 4:50. The only response was from Carlossuarez46 who suggested I have the closer review the article. I cannot assume that Carlossuarez46 actualy looked at the improved version or not, as the response only addressed an issue that had already been addressed before deltion... the Emmy's... and not the other multiple assertions of notabiloity. I goind to walk through the DRV process now. Wish me luck. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 05:36, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Okay... I'll bite. Just who would I ask permission of? The deletists??i KNOW their answer. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 05:48, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
I hate the idea of trying to bumble through a DRV as a newcomer to the process. And I have great respect for MBisanz who advises that his policy is to not review an article and only the discussions: "I hate judging content, since I'm not supposed to when I'm closing an AFD." However, I asked him to now take a look and offer opinion on the article and on advice I have recieved to simply recreate it. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 06:11, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
I did not want to dwell on the child's tragic death... and then give detractors a notion that the article was about the child rather than the father. There was a set of "monkey bars" in the backyard upon which the child was playing. From the underside of these bars were hanging hoops and trapeze types devices to a child could swing and play from underneath. Wesley was crossing above these and slipped and fell through the bars. Rather than a short fall to the ground and perhaps a scraped knee, his head caught in the inside corner of one of the trapese bars and snapped his neck[32]... just like an old time western gallows. You can imagine her distraught terror when Wesley's mother discoverd her toddler son hanging like a suicide... pale and lifeless when moments before he was in joyful play... now perhaps swaying in a light breeze or slowly twisting in the wind. Worse, you can imagine the horror of the newscaster father Reed Cowan when he came to the scene and found his son's death being treated as just another news item... with cameras and microphones being shoved in his face by a dozen yammering reporters all wanting the exclusive quote. Having himself been guilty of exactly those actions at scenes of other's tragedies, it kinda put his life into a grim perspective and started him on his mission to make a better world rather than just report on a bad one. If a bit more information is included about the child's death, the facts are not likley to be challanged and can be taken directly from the report on the Wesly Smiles Coalition website.... as a primary source verifying facts sourced elsewhere in secondary. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 17:09, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Let's chat!

Thanks for your comments at my talk page. I don't mind Rx's message too much, since I'm sure she's not aware of the history.

As for the "chatty" comment...yeah, I'm not sure where that came from, either. Sure, we exchange the odd joke, which takes what, like 2 minutes out of our busy article-developing day. That user pointed out that I had 'lots of thanks, congratulations, barnstars, and holiday greetings," apparently not noticing the hundreds of of messages about articles, DYK issues, content discussions, and god knows what else. And, I was tempted to ask, if I'm wasting my time Myspacing and not building the encyclopedia, then where did the thanks and congratulations come from? Beats me. Anyway, I can't really tell what's up with that user's comments, so I figured it would be better just to let it drop.

Hope all is well with you, Politizer talk/contribs 14:56, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

No worries. I appreciate your good efforts. As for my bad jokes, I can only hope they encourage a little sanity and perspective. You're probably right that Rx means well. Cheers. ChildofMidnight (talk) 16:48, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
By the way, this is now one of my favorite subsections of any article. Politizer talk/contribs 17:34, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Fair and balanced to be sure. The wording could probably be tweaked, but the whole article probably needs a COI tag as Kelapstick has admitted a close relationship with an involved milk vendor as well as having an attachment and enthusiasm for cutting edge milk container technology. As he has admitted his wife spilled the milk, the dangers of this newfangled packaging need to be made clear. The truth must be told! ChildofMidnight (talk) 17:40, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Not a vendor, a bottler, or since they are in jugs, a juggler I suppose. I am surprised it is only tagged as low importance in WP food and drink, I thought it would have ranked at least high....My admiration for square milk jugs is only surpassed by my desire to photograph them in poor lighting.--kelapstick (talk) 18:02, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
You are going to have to increase the length of the criticism section so that picture will fit in between the two line breaks, I would but as you know I can speak no ill of the SMJ.--kelapstick (talk) 18:34, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
It fits just fine on my monitor Richie Rich. I thought it was weird to have the traditional jug next to the criticism section. Also, I thought the idea was to provide a comparison? While I agree with the subtle message of having the traditional jugs next to the benefits section, it still seems wrong. It looked bad the way I had it? Can we merge the photos for a side by side? I still think the individual jug photo would be better so there's a level playing field. ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:42, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
The consumer reports story says the wide mouth is easier for dairies to fill and reduces spillage. Although I wonder who's going to explain to the milk truck drivers why there are so many less trips to make? These are tough times and they're just trying to put food and milk on the table. ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:51, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm not sure, now, after looking at it in a maximized screen, the top one is the only one that fits, although I think the picture should be under a line break and if it goes through another that is fine(ish), the ideal situation would be a joint photo shoot between a square and bell jug. But when will they ever be seen together? In the meantime the individual bell photo might be worth using. The wide mouth advantage might be worth a mention, not sure how to explain it to the truckers though. (note every time I leave a message on your talk page I copy it before I save because I know I will be in an edit conflict ya tweaker...twice pasting this message)--kelapstick (talk) 18:59, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
A shadowy image that embodies corporate interests putting cost savings, profit and the environment over practicality.
Looks to me like the way to go with this is a {{Double image stack}}. (With the smj as the top image, since it is after all the article subject.) Politizer talk/contribs 19:54, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. Best to check with K-stick. He may be afraid of a fair comparison. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:00, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Sounds good to me. The container category is redundant as the newly created Category:Milk containers is within both Category:Milk and Category:Containers--kelapstick (talk) 21:13, 3 February 2009 (UTC) At some point today

It's not redundant because people looking at the containers category would be helped by finding it there. There's no problem that it's in a more specific category too, there is overlap. Please remember to sign your posts. Do you want me to put a welcome template on your page with a reminder so you don't forget? ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:59, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
I don't think my user page can handle the size of welcome template that you usually dole out, and if someone were in the container category, they would just go to the milk container category (which is at the top so they would not have to take the trouble to look for the "S" section in the list of 166 different containers). If a square milk jug contained anything other than milk (with the exception of any uses after you purchased it), I could see having it in both but since the reader is actually looking for something that contains milk, they should have no trouble navigating to the proper refined category (wow I got a varient of contain in this post 5 now 6 times... impressive).--kelapstick (talk) 21:13, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Yes well I'm working on Bacon explosion. You know, improving the encyclopedia? Have you doubled up the image yet? Your logic fails to account for serendipity. Best not to hide the monstrosity you've created. The more people are made aware of this distortion, the sooner we will be able to put a stop to it. ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:25, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Square milk jug (top); traditional American bell-shaped milk jugs (bottom)

How does this look? The top image might need cropped and stuff (or you could find a different milk jug image for the bottom) so that they are both more or less the same size. Politizer talk/contribs 22:40, 3 February 2009 (UTC) Looks great to me. I think it's telling that the "square" is in dark shadowy loneliness. Maybe I'll try rotating my jug photo later and see how it looks. Thanksfor putting the photos together. I'm interested to see the formatting. ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:57, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

I prefer the bias of having a larger square milk jug, so people automatically assume it is the superior of the two, all kidding aside, CoM, you still can't rotate your picture? That would probably be the best fit.--kelapstick (talk) 23:10, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Here's the formatting:

Promotion of impractical design, dark photographs, and an enthusiasm for novelty no matter what the risks... Hmmmmm, coincidence? ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:57, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

They do make snowbags in Reno...but I am claiming zero association with Snowbagging (other than the original prod, which was taken down with no explanation or justification.)--kelapstick (talk) 19:01, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
How funny. I had forgotten you were the one to prod it. It looks to me like the most logical explanation for the article's continued survival is a very complicated conspiracy that could only have been concocted by an evil genius or a Canadian. What is a snowbag? Can you get a photo? ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:09, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Note the article is word for word from here.--kelapstick (talk) 19:06, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Is it a real sport or not? If there's a way to keep it, it seems kind of cool. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:09, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
I can't find anything on the net. But surely people have put bags on their feet and tried skiing... Hmmm... ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:21, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm on the fence, I have never heard of it, although that doesn't mean anything. If there are some reliable sources that can be cited that would be great, however it does look like it was made up in one day, which was the reason I prodded it (again removed with no explanation). I invented a great game this weekend of shuffleboard using Little People and our coffee table, but it doesn't belong on Wikipedia (or does it....) I looked and found no "news sources", hell I haven't found any unreliable sources for it. I am thinking I am going to take it to AfD, which is too bad because like you said, it looks pretty cool, I looked at the shop section on their page and they are sold out of snowbags (sort of suspicious, we have a sport but you can not get the equipment to participate in it).--kelapstick (talk) 19:22, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
I am putting a note on the two editors pages to see if they have any insight, but they have both only edited this.--kelapstick (talk) 19:24, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Can we at least AfD it so people have the fun of seeing it as it's put down or should we go ahead and have it speedied? ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:27, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

I would say AFD, I don't think it qualifies under any speedy category and the prod was removed (although with no explanation) so it can't be re-added, also an AfD has more staying power if it is kept, also if it is deleted and recreated with the same lack of sources it then falls under CSD for recreated material.--kelapstick (talk) 19:31, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
If you find me a set of bags though let me know, I can take them when I (finally) go to Tahoe!--kelapstick (talk) 19:33, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
You should use Twinkle for AfD, it automates the whole process, unless you have a fear of robots.--kelapstick (talk) 19:37, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Manhattan Beach just outlawed plastic bags, but at least for the time being I think I can scrounge up a couple for you. Do they have to be matching? Target bags are pretty deluxe...
Don't vote on it yet. Let's see what neutral eyes determine. I suspect it won't be around for long... Goodbye snowbagging!
At least for now...
The good news is that vestival is hanging in there. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:41, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
I was thinking I should stay out so you (or we) don't get accused of teaming up or forum shopping, I may have to go to Boston for Thanksgiving. I wouldn't dream of snowbagging if the bags didn't match, this is starting to get awkward.--kelapstick (talk) 19:45, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Only if your mind is in the gutter Kelap, only if your mind is in the gutter. I feel bad about AfDing it. Should we have just left it? I think we were duty bound to follow through. :( I fear that even M. Q. Schmidt can't save this one. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:48, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
My mind is always in the gutter, it makes conversations more interesting when you snicker when an innocently intended statement can be twisted. Speaking of Snickers, did you see who their "sponsor" is, and on the Czech website they actually have the snickers logo on it. This looks to be a well played and well documented hoax, I give them top marks. Their tour schedule takes them to <snicker>Red Beaver, Nevada</snicker> Bespin, Colorado and Late Acid, New Jersey, the major hot spots of any fictional city tour. Also did you see the gallery, with the yellow garbage bags marketed as "Snowbags" that are only manufactured in three places in the world in action, you can see that in the shop page but they look especially awesome in the Gallery. If you hadn't AfDd it I would have, although I would be interested to see MQS take a stab at it. The "sport" looks interesting (if it ever snowed here I might try it with some knock off snowbags) and I wish there were some sources for it.--kelapstick (talk) 23:06, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Dinner is ready

Ichecked that stuff. But what about this? http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Image_use_policy Removal of galleries? Dicouraging galleries? I strongly belive that the policy needs rewording., as discussed now on the policy talk page. Why? People want to se photos about dogs, paintings, gemstones, whatever. You can not explain things by words- only! Warrington (talk) 19:51, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

I think the puppy and the portrait would be good to add. Galleries are discouraged, so choosing ones to illustrate points would be better. I tried to add one, but it was the wrong one, and before I could even revert someone had taken it out. I suggest moving to another article. Those peeps may be a bit rabid. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:44, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
I would add that there are cases where a gallery would be okay. For a complicated architectural building there might be too many significant perspective to include with the text, for example. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:46, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

There is a discussion now about changing that policy, or rewording it. I think that it would be a very good idea. There is no good reason or a real need to, no need to be restrictive with galleries or pictures, They add to the articles quality and style and make them more interesting. Look at your own talk page! full of nice pictures!

Really? Thought I found the lit. reference you were meaning. What was than than the other one? Warrington (talk) 22:51, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

There are many of us...

I found Jah Roots when I was new page patrolling, very interesting, 6-7 white guys from the Missouri singing reggae with one of Bob Marley's old guitarists playing with them now. I did a lot of cleanup and now my eyes are crossed, there are quite a few sources, including one that is an external link still. Maybe take a look and see if you can improve it any more (you always seem to fix my mistakes), quite a few options for hooks too.--kelapstick (talk) 17:26, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

also thoguht that you would appreciate this edit summary--kelapstick (talk) 18:01, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Don't tell anybody this, but by the time I get to saving my edits and doing the edit summary I usually have forgotten what I did in the first place. :) It's a fun article. Can you do a DYK hook for it? Something like DYK ...that Jah Roots is a reggae band from Missouri whose albums include More Herbs for the Youth on their GanJah record label? Or you could focus on their giving away albums, but that's not really THAT unusual. ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:08, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

... that the fifth album released by Missouri based reggae band Jah Roots on their GanJah record label features former Bob Marley & The Wailers lead guitarist Junior Marvin?--kelapstick (talk) 18:58, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Fine if you want to leave out all the perfectly good marijuana references. I tweaked it so at least one is maintained. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:42, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Unfortunately I don't have any Marijuana references in the article though, maybe they should be added and have an alternate hook. I suppose they are followers of the United States Marijuana Party. The last time I voted there was an option for the Marijuana Party of Canada in our riding, it took all I had in me not to vote for them.--kelapstick (talk) 19:47, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
One of their albums is called More Herbs for the Youth and it was released on the GanJah record label? That's not good enough? You want more? ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:02, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
They could mean oregano, basil or thyme...--kelapstick (talk) 21:07, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Did You Know

...that the proposed stimulus package will forever be known as a Bacon explosion? ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:45, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

God I hope so...--kelapstick (talk) 18:48, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
That is funny (but sad). Bongomatic 18:57, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
My suggestion for the hook is: Did you know ...that the true meaning of the sausage and bacon dish containing 5,000 calories and 500 grams of fat known as the bacon explosion isn't discovered until the day after eating it? ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:18, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Oh that one is good, but in that case wouldn't the article properly be called Bacon assplosion?--kelapstick (talk) 19:29, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for that vivid clarification. Of course leaving it ambiguous it could mean a coronary or just an actual explosion. Five hundred grams of fat? You need to do a lot of snowbagging to burn that off... ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:35, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

...that a Kosher, Halal or vegetarian version of the bacon explosion has yet to be developed? Although I think everyone would know that...I love that it was worked into the article though.--kelapstick (talk) 19:42, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

There was also a bit about using turkey bacon and fakon, but sadly it was cut out. I don't think anyone should be excluded from pigging out on a version of this international delicacy. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:56, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
I've been shopping this thing around at work, but no takers so far. I mean, making one is one thing, but actually eating it... Drmies (talk) 03:27, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Query about flagging of Anello & Davide article

Hi,

I just wondered why the Anello & Davide article was flagged. I'm working on at least elucidatory entries for all the (mainly British) designers whose work was chosen for the 1963-2005 Dress Of The Year awards, and wondered what exactly was wrong with this particular entry, especially as I took great care to avoid appearing to be "advertising" in any way. (their official website is vomit inducingly back-slapping enough in that respect as it is.) I'm just trying to understand why being chosen twice for a quite significant fashion award doesn't make them noteworthy, so would appreciate your insight. Thanks v.m. Mabalu (talk) 02:43, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Edited to note, I've added a bit more to the article. It's really tough because Anello & Davide (as with so many British brands!) get mentioned in passing quite often, and exist in a certain sort of public conscious, but they're rarely ever written about. However, I was able to track down a couple of useful published references, and will keep my eyes open for anything useful. Thanks for your advice! Mabalu (talk) 03:57, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Hamsters love fruitcake too

Since 1995, Manitou Springs, Colorado has hosted the Great Fruitcake Toss on the first Saturday of every January. "We encourage the use of recycled fruitcakes," says Leslie Lewis of the Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce. The all-time Great Fruitcake Toss record is 1,420 feet, set in January 2007 by a group of eight Boeing engineers who built the "Omega 380," a mock artillery piece fueled by compressed air pumped by an exercise bike. Was your adding of {{refimprove}} here a mistake? It didn't seem to have any refs at all which would call for {{unreferenced}} - Mgm|(talk) 00:52, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Indeed the unreferenced tag was called for, but I thought refimprove provided enough impetus and indication for what was needed. Also it doesn't need to be changed after a single reference is added. But I have no objection to the unreferenced tag being used. Are there advantages I'm not considering to using it? ChildofMidnight (talk) 00:56, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Art?

Sorry, CoM, what art project was that? BTW, Altin Kaftira emailed me--I got a stack of almost twenty articles and reviews in my bag to be added to the article... You know I've never met an Albanian before? I'd love to have a cup of coffee with him in Amsterdam. BTW, I self-nominated that piece of real estate for DYK, but there seem to be not enough words in it. We'll see; if they don't take it, tough ****, though I think it's a bit silly. Drmies (talk) 04:02, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for removing the speedy and expanding the stub. You'll see I did a little more work on the article. While the article isn't a gem (yet?), the subject certainly is. And the link to pizza is hard to ignore. I'm thinking of getting the book (and dreams of building a brick oven have already entered my head). Bongomatic 15:41, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

Turrible deletist...

Inre this [34]. Thanks for the smiles. Best, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 00:33, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Can you tell me what exactly was wrong with my edits, that you found it necessary to delete them all?--Sloane (talk) 02:50, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

It seemed like a lot of content was cut out. I could see how portions of the article might benefit from being rewritten into paragraph form and made more encyclopedic, but it wasn't clear to me why so much was removed. I tried to restore the obvious improvements from your version such as a category and wikification. Is there some part of the current version that needs to be modified? ChildofMidnight (talk) 02:54, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
There are two reasons why some of the content was left out, first of all, some of it, I simply didn't see in the movie (I skipped through it while editing, so I might well have missed some things), some of those parts were also referenced with sources completely unrelated to the movie. Secondly, it was all terribly slanted. I thought giving a broad description instead of propagating any point of view served the article much better. It's actually not all that much that was cut, I just counted in Word and it went down from 564 words to 411. It just seems like a lot is gone, with the titles removed.--Sloane (talk) 03:10, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
Maybe do it in smaller edits with clear edit summaries? Explaining what the movie depicts doesn't seem biased to me. It is what it is. ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:20, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
Been doing it over, are you liking what you see?--Sloane (talk) 04:32, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
Let's continue the discussion on the article's discussion page. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:45, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

As soon as you're done hooking Sauerbruch Hutton you can hook this one. I'm confident it will be long enough. There's so much to say about this important subject... By the way, Sauerbruch Hutton's massive skyscrapers and office buildings are supposed to be very environmentally friendly. And as far as I know they haven't gone into insolvency like a certain Dutch firm (Mecanoo). Is anyone else in favor of testing carbon capture techniques in the Netherlands before trying it here? I'm sure it will be safe. Really. No worries. And I noticed the milk bag article says it uses very little plastic and is environmentally friendly. So is it like paper/ plastic bag debate when you compare it to square milk jugs? Apparently "It's all yours, boys..." is Dutch for: prepare to be edit conflicted. :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:10, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Only if you want to. I'm unconvinced there is any advantage to the use of giant citation templates. I view them the same way I do semi-colons and government housing projects. :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 02:01, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Well, I'll repeat what I've said before: it makes the References section look a whooooooooooole lot cleaner. Also, the good folks who decide on FA status may care for it, and I'm all about sticking feathers in your (blue) cap. On a different note, I grilled steak, mushrooms, bell pepper, sweet onion, and then a 4 lb. chunk of pork butt, which is now in the oven at 275, until midnight or so. And there's a loaf of raisin-cinnamon (from Vietnam) bread baking. Hungry yet? Drmies (talk) 04:04, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Midnight you say? Sounds good. You live (or at least eat) like a king! And here I keep hearing about how times are tough and we're living through another great depression. I guess some are more depressed than others? You must be one of these rich people I keep hearing about on TV who are taking advantage of the rest of us. In the words of Flavor Flav: Fight the Power! We're coming for you Drmies. Equality is paramount. ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:40, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Could you alter your reasoning on this AFD? I specifically nominated it for lack of sources. I'm afraid that any mention of notability would lead to a spurious flurry of keep votes from school article fans. And at the end of the day notability and verifiability are two different things. - Mgm|(talk) 10:29, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

No. My reasoning is sound. :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:10, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

OK, I haven't found the penguin yet, but will fulmar porridge do? It was real easy too--[38]. This offers a couple of snippets, including (on the second page), "As Macaulay was in St Kilda in 1759 (or says he was), it is almost certain that ... and made into gruel and porridge. Meat is often cooked along with these. ..." Drmies (talk) 15:39, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Interesting. Thank you for the links. I get the impression he is of the Mark Twain/ Marco Polo school of exaggerated travel writing. ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:14, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Standard Hotel

You did great work on the Standard Hotel Article. Excellent!! Minnaert (talk) 18:44, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. I just now went back and tried to mess it up. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:15, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Renzo Piano

I removed some of that stuff from the article because it was unsourced. I won't remove it again, but keep WP:V in mind MrShamrock (talk) 21:32, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, a lot of stuff from older articles isn't sourced. But it seemed pretty legitimate and worth including. Thanks for the note. ChildofMidnight (talk) 23:34, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

What's up with Tich?

Hiya Childo. What's going on with Titch Tucker? What buggers is he speaking of? GoodDay (talk) 00:02, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Is it, what I fear it is? GoodDay (talk) 00:06, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Sounds like it. But hopefully whatever it is, he'll get it out of his system. I'd take it to AfD if it would help. But some things can't be speedy deleted I suppose. ChildofMidnight (talk) 00:11, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Indeed. GoodDay (talk) 00:19, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Honors

I just couldn't sit by while your honors page did not mention one of the awards you received, so I populated it. Hope you don't mind; if you do, feel free to revert. Cheers! Scapler (talk) 03:30, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

No worries Scap. Much appreciated. I'm a bit modest actually, and I thought it was funny to have my honors page be blank. :) But I appreciate the recognition, kind words, and comraderie of the people who have been so kind to me here. Not you of course, but the others. I was planning on eventually going through my archives and copying awards over, each one was appreciated greatly. While I'm shy about displaying all my medals, I do enjoy being a Four-Star general and Commander and Chief. I've yet to be honored for my civility, but I guess Peace through superior fire power (which I see is some kind of DVD?) and the best offense is a good defense aren't included in Wikipedia's five pillars. ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:32, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm glad we can be honest with each other about that, hate is such a strong word, so I prefer "my demon smileys chew on your eternal soul", cheers! Scapler (talk) 03:45, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Always remember your place coward! For you speak to the General of the Armies and world ruler! Scapler (talk) 03:47, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
I would borrow one of user:Ecoleetage's peace signs, but I'm pretty sure he's been banned indefinitely for stalking. (Seemed like a nice enough guy to me.) You should know there is a Demon Hunter band and a Demon Hunter (film), and I looked into setting up a force field and calling in the Ghostbusters. It's a good thing I employ an army of blue helmetted Dutch soldiers who are sure to protect this safe zone! They have a mandate. ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:52, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Bacon barnstar

The Bacon Barnstar
Awarded to Child of Midnight for extraordinary effort in writing, rewriting, providing in-line citations, supplying references, proofreading, etc. etc., of, of, for, to, of articles devoted to the smoked porcine delicacy known and loved around the USA as bacon. More specifically, awarded for tirelessly promoting such expressions of Americana as Bacon explosion and Chicken fried bacon. May the applewood be with you. Drmies (talk) 19:27, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Thank you Drmies for recognizing my important contributions to this collaborative effort. Without the teamwork shown by you, Bongo, Scalps, Kollapseit, and others, the English speaking world would remain ignorant about these important subjects, without access to this critical knowledge. ChildofMidnight (talk) 18:46, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
See the revised bacon barstar on your honours page...I thought it was an appropriate addition for such an important subject...--kelapstick (talk) 19:28, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Rock on CoM, you the man! Speaking of which, I had a chunk of pork in the smoker for an hour or three, and then three more in the oven. It is delicious. Drmies (talk) 19:37, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Say, anyone care for some bacon shrimp? Drmies (talk) 19:40, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
I"m partial to bacon scallops. But some of these lesser dishes can probably be covered in the bacon and relevant food articles... ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:52, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Can someone with more knowledge on the subject than I have check if Kelapstick's bacon star is an anarchist symbol? It looks familiar. Should we form a Bacon cabal? ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:45, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

I am in full support of a bacon cabal.--kelapstick (talk) 20:32, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi

I'm creating a section here. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:38, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Thank you. No barnstar?

I reworked the bacon article. There is now a section for dishes there. I also cut down the nutritional section as much as I could. It was mostly misleading propaganda. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:55, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

So...it's healthy now? I added the bacon shrimp sources from above--it's never gonna fly independently... Drmies (talk) 21:17, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Congress appears to be trying to make pigs fly as we speak! If a trillion dollars can't make it happen, maybe it's not meant to be... ChildofMidnight (talk) 21:34, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
I'm still waiting on my percentage of the Iraqi oil revenues, so I wouldn't hold my breath! Hey, pigs don't fly here, but I just shredded a significant part of one. I'm waiting for the girls to come back from their walk, so they can choose between Memphis, Alton Brown (sort of low country South Carolina), and Kansas City style barbecue sauce. I made all three, just to play safe. Hmmmm... Drmies (talk) 23:23, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Memphis wins (my wife's from North Mississippi...), but I like Alton Brown's best. Bon appetit! Drmies (talk) 23:59, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

I ain't begun working on it yet. Wait for the magic...... Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 23:33, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

You know Schmidty, I thought of you as I voted on that one. I thought to myself, no sign of Schmidty, hopefully this one will get quietly deleted before he latches on to it. Life is tough being Don Quixote my friend. For you and I both. ChildofMidnight (talk) 00:39, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Wow, I'm a keep and you're a delete, didn't think I would see that coming...Good luck MQS!--kelapstick (talk) 00:50, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
I guess that leaves me as the Don Quixote and MQS as a heroic Guy Montag or is it Superman? Vaclav Havel? Who is a famous freedom and hero of free speech advocacy and the preservation of literature? ChildofMidnight (talk) 01:05, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

The Baconator

Wow! I'm just getting around to updating the DYK Stats page, and your Bacon Explosion hook drew an astounding 40,500 views. That's the third most of all-time. Congratulations! Cbl62 (talk) 04:17, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

  • Ha, who needs a Bacon cabal when you're already a Baconator??? Great work, Bongo and Child. You know what's funny, this is really just a continuation of the internet buzz signaled in the article. Hey, what do you make of this edit? I can't say I like it. A bit weaselish, and silly to boot. Drmies (talk) 04:45, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
