Composite image for Kuching
Hi Cerevisae, do you have any idea to create a composite image for the Kuching article infobox just like in the Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Lumpur articles? Wakanebe Wizard (talk) 10:25, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry, I have no idea on how to join images into one. Maybe you can ask Azreey and Junchuann for it because Azeey seems to know on how to create a composite photo while Junchuann seems to know on how to add additional photos into it, as you can see on the file history here. Regards. Cerevisae (talk)
- It's actually quite easy since you can do it with most image editing programmes. Even mspaint works as well, since its just copy pasting images. Only problem is I don't think 2 photos will make a very nice composite. Maybe I might make one for Kuching if there are nice photos to use. @Wakanebe Wizard — Junchuann 10:53, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks Junchuann. Cerevisae (talk) 10:59, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

- Thanks guys, maybe we can search some free images on Flickr and focus to the main symbols (buildings, monuments, etc). But I don't know much about the main symbols of Kuching. Probably Cerevisae can listed some of it here and Junchuann join it together. Wakanebe Wizard (talk) 12:22, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- The main symbols of Kuching are: Cat statues, the state assembly building, The Astana, Sarawak state museum, and Fort Margherita. If you are able to include more photos, Kuching waterfront is also a good inclusion.Cerevisae (talk) 13:11, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- I made a pretty basic compilation with some of the things you included, feel free to point out if you think I should add/remove some things. Unfortunately the two pretty nice photos of the Kuching skyline were too pixelated to be used in the compilation so I had to use some less nice photos. If you find a nice free photo of Kuching's skyline that's over 1500 pixels horizontally please link it to me so that I can use it in the compilation. Here's the compilation: 1 and 2— Junchuann 15:49, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- Nice, but can you include this beautiful panorama? Wakanebe Wizard (talk) 16:22, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- For Astana, you can choose either this or this photo or you can choose to use the original photo.
- For Sarawak museum, you can use this photo
- For cat statues, you can use this photo
- For Kuching skyline, you can use this, this or this photo.
- For Astana, you can choose either this or this photo or you can choose to use the original photo.
- Nice, but can you include this beautiful panorama? Wakanebe Wizard (talk) 16:22, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
I would very much prefer that you include Cat statues and Sarawak museum also in the final combined photo. Pending bridge can also be fit in if possible. You can choose to crop certain photos above in order to fit in. But if the image is too wide to be covered by the skyline, you can left out the cat statues first. Regards.Cerevisae (talk) 17:44, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- Agree with Cerevisae, maybe Junchuann can take a look on the Nairobi composite image to fit more images. (: Wakanebe Wizard (talk) 18:32, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
- Is this fine? Or is there more that you would like me to change? — Junchuann 01:35, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
- Seems fine for me, but it's up to Cerevisae opinion. I think you can make a preview for the test image in this site without uploading it to commons. (: Wakanebe Wizard (talk) 03:39, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you so much Junchuann! It is an excellent work! I will be using this image on the Kuching wikipage.Cerevisae (talk) 05:48, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

- Hooray, now we have the main composite images for some Malaysian cities GA like Kuching, Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu. But can you fix this Junchuann? (hard to determine the correct size to fit in the infobox) ): Wakanebe Wizard (talk) 06:46, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
- Don't use your mouse to resize photos because it'll turn out distorted. You can try using mspaint's resize function to change all the photos to example 1024 pixels long then put them together. — Junchuann 08:14, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for updating the old composite. I just download PhotoScape and try to use the "page" and "combine" functions to fix it. Pretty good to use for composite image, have you try it out? (: Wakanebe Wizard (talk) 08:55, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Re : Vectorising complex logos
Hello Cerevisae, good morning. The most simpliest way to get a nice vector is to find any PDF file for the city/town logo you want to convert (the instruction can be seen here). May I see the logo you want to convert for? Anyhow, you can try to ask help or question on the Graphics Lab as there is many professional logo designer there. :) ~ Muffin Wizard ;) 02:32, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. I plan to convert the following files into vector images:
File:Sibu_Municipal_Council_Official_logo.png File:Official logo of SRDC.png File:Rimbunan Hijau group official logo.png File:Seal of Miri.png File:Official logo of Bintulu Development Authority.png
- Hmm, the first logo is quite difficult as it needs a redraw, similar like the Sandakan seal. Perhaps some professional user like Sodacan can draw it. About the Miri logo, I tried to find it before for any PDF documents that have the logo inside, but still can't found any. I think someone can draw these two logos ([1], [2]) in the graphic lab as it is the most simple logo. Probably EuroCarGT can help with that. ;) ~ Muffin Wizard ;) 05:38, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for your information :-)Cerevisae (talk) 10:12, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I am not an advanced SVG artist, logos like those are quite complex and take much time to do. As Muffin Wizard said, it would be ideal to find a PDF file with those logos, so it could be easily extracted with little work. Another thing is, the logos are non-free, which isn't a bad thing, but there maybe issues in the future regarding the file. Best, ///EuroCarGT 19:33, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

A new reference tool
Hello Books & Bytes subscribers. There is a new Visual Editor reference feature in development called Citoid. It is designed to "auto-fill" references using a URL or DOI. We would really appreciate you testing whether TWL partners' references work in Citoid. Sharing your results will help the developers fix bugs and improve the system. If you have a few minutes, please visit the testing page for simple instructions on how to try this new tool. Regards, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:47, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Hmm, seems most of the links have turned into a dead links, do you know any archive links for the 2010 statistics? (Feeling very bad when the government didn't even give any notice on the upgrading of their website) ~ Muffin Wizard ;) 03:44, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
I have archived several files of population statistics while I was working on the Sibu wikipage. I even saved several of them in my computer. Do tell me the files that you need so that I can post the archival links to you. :-) Regards. Or you may try to put the dead link into internet archive search to see if it has been archived before.Cerevisae (talk) 10:06, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Did you watch the Filipino news today?
Another funny propaganda by the terrorist group of Moro National Liberation Front in the Filipino media. :D ~ Muffin Wizard ;) 10:02, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for sharing. This is just ridiculous. MNLF declared independence unilaterally and now they unilaterally declared that Malaysian government is negotiating with them? lol Cerevisae (talk) 06:56, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah, and the most funniest thing is that the Philippine Star easily accept this story without checking more on the source and where did they get this from any Malaysian medias. The news even stated that "Cerveza said that prior to the creation of the Federation of Malaysia, the Sultanate of Sulu included Sabah and Sarawak". Include Sarawak? Never in history Sarawak are once part of the Sulu Sultanate. Even in Sabah, they only can have the eastern part after the Bruneian Empire give them. No wonder if they go the ICJ, the ICJs would also laugh and kick them. Now I understand why Filipino media cannot be trusted unlike the Brunei, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam medias. Their medias only professional on "inciting hatred, gossip and nonsense talk". I do hope that one day, all these idiot warmonger leaders will died just like how Osama, Saddam and Gaddafi been killed. Some of these idiot Moro leaders only know to make troubles and make their own peoples suffering to fill up their own pocket. If they really don't want peace then they should die. No wonder also why Mindanao and the rest of the Southern Philippine islands are so poor with this kind of leaders mentality. ~ Muffin Wizard ;) 10:11, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, it is hard to believe that a reputable Philippines newspaper is publishing factually incorrect news. I wonder how the newspaper is still interested in this piece of crap.Cerevisae (talk) 12:04, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
- That's why, their idiot politicians keep playing their false facts to get attention from their peoples without thinking some of their citizens here in our country will became a victims of "possible attacks" by some groups. Just look at the Manila Standard Today and The Manila Times, the news is full of "lies". ~ Muffin Wizard ;) 13:15, 12 May 2015 (UTC)

Serian Division
Hi Cerevisae, I have update the labelled map of Sarawak since there is a new division announced in April by Sarawak state government. But I still don't know if the border I draw is correct based from an old map from the Sarawak state government. Do you have the new map? Maybe you can help me here to correct it. The label is here → {{Sarawak Labelled Map}} :) ~ Muffin Wizard ;) 03:20, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Muffin Wizard. Thanks for producing maps regarding Sarawak. Actually I am also not sure about the borders defined for the Serian Division. Have to wait for the government to release a new map before we reach a conclusion. In the mean time, lets just stick to the current map. :-) Cerevisae (talk) 09:14, 15 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi Cerevisae, can you create an article like the Chinatown, Kuala Terengganu for Kuching? I see there is a Chinatown in Kuching too after seeing a paifang in this video. I think the beautiful gate can be put on the Kuching composite image with a link to Chinatown, Kuching. Perhaps you know more about that place than me as you are living in Sarawak. :P ~ Muffin Wizard ;) 02:32, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- But, before that. Have you seen any free image of the gate? I found one on Flickr, but the owner put it on a copyright licence. :( ~ Muffin Wizard ;) 02:38, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
- I am currently busy now. Will probably create the wikipage in Oct/Nov. I found no similar free image. Request mail sent to the author of the picture. Hopefully, he would grant the license compatible with Wikipedia.Cerevisae (talk) 06:06, 13 August 2015 (UTC)

Johor Bahru size area
Hi Cerevisae, did you ever see any source mentioning the size of the Johor Bahru city area? I can't find any sources mentioning that the city has an area of 647.63 km2 (250.05 sq mi) as originally stated on the article before I start to expand it. While when I type on the Google Search, it only mentioning an area of 71.43 mi². Feeling weird, I can only find the size of Iskandar Malaysia. If you can help, can you put some more in the geography area. Thank you! :) ~ Muffin Wizard ;) 00:55, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
- Hi @Muffin Wizard:, the Johor Bahru administrative area is 220 km2 according to MBJB official website. However, the English translation about the area is a bit weird. They translated the area as "Width" and the unit for the area as "km square feet" but the Malay translation is much clearer. Cerevisae (talk) 13:57, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Chinese name of Malaysian Monash professor?
Cerevisae,
I started an article on Bukak Api and found that a Malaysian Monash professor named Andrew Ng Hock Soon wrote a big article about the movie. I tried to do a Google search to look for Ng's Chinese name but it didn't find anything. Do you know some ways I could use to find the Chinese name?
Thanks WhisperToMe (talk) 14:28, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
- Hi WhisperToMe, I am not so sure how to find his Chinese name too. Unless Malaysian Chinese newspapers mention about him or if he publishes Chinese works, it would be difficult to know his real Chinese name because all official communications will be in romanised English name only. Cerevisae (talk) 17:30, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
- Okay. I'll see if there are any Chinese versions of his works WhisperToMe (talk) 00:26, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Bot automation at Wikipedia:Today's articles for improvement
Greetings WikiProject TAFI members!
Over the past two weeks, there has been extensive discussion on introducing bot automation to assist with maintenance of the Today's Articles for Improvement project. A bot has now been approved for trial and will carry out the weekly duties. The bots first run will occur around 00:00, 22 November 2015 (UTC) (midnight on Sunday).
If you have been assisting any of the weekly maintenance tasks, please refrain from doing so this week. The bot needs to be tested and proven it can do the job, and it only gets one chance per week. The tasks will include:
- Adding the new scheduled article to Wikipedia talk:Today's articles for improvement and removing the entry from Wikipedia:Articles for improvement
- Set up the schedule pages for the new TAFI, except the adding of an image and caption
- Adding {{TAFI}} to the new article for improvement, remove {{TAFI}} from last week's article and add {{Former TAFI}} to the talk page
- Notify relevant WikiProjects that the new TAFI is within their scope
- Send a mass message to everyone on the notification list of the new TAFI selection
Updating the accomplishments and archiving selections is still done manually, along with daily tasks such as adding approved entries to the articles for improvement page. These will become automated in the near future.
We hope the bot proves to serve well, and by carrying out the routine housekeeping tasks we can boost the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project. MusikBot thanks you for your service in helping with the weekly tasks in the past, and for your cooperation during this trial period :)
