Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Catherine Lemieux. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Patrick Rampelotto, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template);

- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:32, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

- Hello,
- Can I please know why the subject is not suitable? Rampelotto has articles on him by two major Austrian media (Der Standard and ORF) plus one article only about him in a reference book by Thames and Hudson, plus reference to his work in academical papers? What do I need more? Thanks. Catherine Lemieux (talk) 13:51, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- The article about Rampelotto in the "Chair Anatomy" book by Thames and Hudson, about "A comprehensive design resource that reveals how the iconic chairs of the 20th and 21st centuries have been designed for mass production" written by Orrom, Professor for Product and Furniture Design at the Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences in Germany, does not show "The person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in a specific field." ? Catherine Lemieux (talk) 13:58, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- Rampelotto also b. has Catherine Lemieux (talk) 14:01, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry, that did not copy, but as to wikipedias criterias for notability, Rampelotto has them all. He was b. part of a major exhibition (had a solo show at the MAK in 2012, and was part of the major yearly exhibition of 2022), c. won critical attention (he has won a design price just last year) and d. he is in the permanent collection of the MAK and hofmobilien Depot). I put the linik to these collections, taht are transparently displayed online, but the first reviewer would not accept a main museums page as a source. Catherine Lemieux (talk) 14:04, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- The link to the permanent collection that I used was accepted, as it is shown, on the wikipedia page of the Museum of Applied Arts of Vienna https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Museum_of_Applied_Arts,_Vienna. The solo exhibition of Rampelotto is also referenced on this wikipedia page. I am confused as to why theses references were not accepted on my draft. [edit]Paid editing
[edit] As previously advised, your edits give the impression you have a financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. You were asked to cease editing until you responded by either stating that you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits, or by complying with the mandatory requirements under the Wikimedia Terms of Use that you disclose your employer, client and affiliation. Again, you can post such a disclosure on your user page at User:Catherine Lemieux, and the template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Catherine Lemieux|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. Please respond before making any other edits to Wikipedia. Theroadislong (talk) 14:59, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Theroadislong I am not paid for this edit. Do I need to state it somewhere else than here? Catherine Lemieux (talk) 16:01, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Theroadislong When was I asked to make a statement? I don’t understand. I also don’t understand why I am being accused of making a paid article. I invested all my time voluntarily as an academic. Catherine Lemieux (talk) 16:06, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Theroadislongi also don’t understand your last comment on my draft page. “I don’t know how they pass, etc…” what do you mean? Catherine Lemieux (talk) 16:09, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- In answer to your question
"When was I asked to make a statement?"
, you were asked two weeks ago, when I posted a query (see section 'Managing a conflict of interest', above) on this talk page. You have not responded to that query, and therefore the standard next step is to post the query which appears in this section. This is not an accusation, it is a request for information. HTH, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 16:25, 22 November 2023 (UTC)- @DoubleGrazing ok thanks for clearing that up. I thought I only had to make a statement if I was being paid, which is not the case. Anyways, I hope it is oboe clarified. Best Catherine Lemieux (talk) 16:32, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- Can I just clarify – you've stated that
"I am not paid for this edit"
, which is quite a specific thing to say. Paid editing can also mean other things, eg. where you're employed or contracted by an organisation which also employs the subject you're writing about, ie. your colleague of some description. Or you could be, say, an agent of the person you're writing about, with a financial interest in their professional success. Is anything like that the case here? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 16:40, 22 November 2023 (UTC)- In 8 months of editing, this is the only topic you have edited, which gives rise to the suspicion that you may have a connection with the subject, my comment on your draft was that Wikipedia articles on artists need to pass the criteria at WP:NARTIST. Theroadislong (talk) 16:48, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- No I am not at all working for or with Rampelotto. I am an academic, there is no conflict of interest. Catherine Lemieux (talk) 17:34, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- I am working solely on this page in order to get familiar with the wikipedia editing process, I planned integrating other artists profiles but sincerely, I figured out it is way too much work as a volunteer. I just want to finish this page because I already put so much time and effort in it. Catherine Lemieux (talk) 17:36, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- With respect, you can be an academic and still have conflicts of interest; the two are by no means mutually exclusive. If you write about your own work, or about a colleague, or about a competitor, or about the institution that employs you, or for that matter about a personal friend or relative, or about a book your aunt wrote, those are all things which would give rise to conflicts of interest, and the list is far from exhaustive.
- But okay, you say you have no conflict, and assuming good faith I shall push this point no further.
- And yes, writing Wikipedia articles is hard work and difficult. It is arguably the most difficult thing one can do here, and not something I personally would recommend one even attempts in the early stages of one's editing career.
- Anyway, I wish you well in getting this draft eventually published. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 17:47, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
- @DoubleGrazingthank you very much Catherine Lemieux (talk) 17:49, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
