Moving Page
Hi Cassiopeia!
Responding to your message. When I attempted to simply move the page, I was unable to because the article with that title already existed. So I transferred the information from “UFC Fight Night 197” to the article “UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. Rodriguez.” I then added a redirect on the “Fight Night 197” article to the named article. I thought this was the way to do it when an article with that name already exists. How can you move a page if new title is already being used? Wikipedia prevents me from doing so.
Thanks! Sdpdude9 (talk) 02:16, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Sdpdude9 Good day. Did you mean " I was unable to because the article with that title already existed." the article name UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. Rodriguez already existed prior your first move? Just to clarify before I respond to your question. Cassiopeia talk 02:22, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Correct, the article name “UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. Rodriguez” was already in use and thus I couldn’t move the page. Thanks! Sdpdude9 (talk) 02:24, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Sdpdude You can do a round robin move that would involved multiple articles; however, that is a more complicated move. The most easy ways to do it are as follow.
- Target move page name already existed - say "UFC Fight Night: YYY vs. ZZZ" where by page had been moved then somehow redirected page to UFC Fight Night ###
- (i) you can moved the existed page "UFC Fight Night: YYY vs. ZZZ" the associated name page "UFC on ESPN+ ##" or "UFC Vegas ##" or "UFN XXX" whichever that is article name is available (not yet been created). Make sure when you do the move, 'UNcheck' (very important) "Leave a redirect behind" on the move page - this mean the existed page "UFC Fight Night: YYY vs. ZZZ" is removed and the name is free to be used for new article.
- (2) Once the page name is available then we could move the UFC Fight Night XXX to the the previously existed UFC Fight Night YYY vs. ZZZ and make sure (very important) to CHECK "Leave a redirect behind" when you do the move and which that UFC Fight Night ### will be automatic redirect to UFC Fight Night YYY vs. ZZZ and all the history from UFC Fight Night ### will be in the UFC Fight Night YYY vs. ZZZ history log (all edits info of the page).
- (3) If all the "UFC on ESPN+ ##" or "UFC on ESPN+ ##" or "UFN XXX" have already existed, which is very unlikely as UFN XXX is always available then there is another method besides the round robin move.
- I know the above might be a little confusion, if you need me to explain again, let me know and be specific when section/area you need me to elaborate a little more. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 02:43, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Sdpdude I have since added a few moth phrases above. Kindly re-read. Thank you. Cassiopeia talk 02:49, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Very much appreciate the help. I think I understand. Only thing is I do not see a “leave a redirect behind” box on the move page. I assume it’s supposed to be on the first page when you click “move”? Again, I appreciate it. Sdpdude9 (talk) 03:01, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Sdpdude I am not sure what is the first page you meant here. I will give an example say an existing page name "UFC Fight Night: Till vs. Weidman" and we would like to move "UFC Fight Night 300" also name "UFC on ESPN+ 90" to the page.
- (step 1) We first go to "UFC Fight Night: Till vs. Weidman" page, click move from "Page" under the menu on top of the article and input "UFC on ESPN+ 90" (if it has not been created) and UNCHECK “leave a redirect behind” box and move the page - this will make the name "UFC Fight Night: Till vs. Weidman" available for a new page.
- (Step 2) Move "UFC Fight Night 300" to "UFC Fight Night: Till vs. Weidman" and CHECK “leave a redirect behind” box and move the page . This means "UFC Fight Night: Till vs. Weidman" is created and "UFC Fight Night 300" is redirect to "UFC Fight Night: Till vs. Weidman".
- (Step 3) Make sure make a redirect "UFC on ESPN+ 90" to UFC Fight Night: Till vs. Weidman. At the end / this means "UFC on ESPN+ 90" and "UFC Fight Night 300" both have been redirect to "UFC Fight Night: Till vs. Weidman" page.
- Note: To find the existing name redirect page- say example UFC Fight Night 191 is redirect to UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Till.. Click on "See full page statistics" on top of UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Till, a new page of UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Till log will appear - see here-1. Click on the number (8) under "link" and a page will appear shows all the pages link to UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Till -see here--2. Find "UFC Fight Night 191" and you will see (links/edit) next to UFC Fight Night 191 and chose edit - you have found the redirected page.
- Hope this helps. Cassiopeia talk 03:24, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for the thorough explanation. I think I understand the process. I just don’t have a “leave a redirect” box anywhere on my move page. Only boxes are “Move associated talk page” and “Watch source page and target page.” Perhaps because I’m mobile? I don’t know. Appreciate all your help. Sdpdude9 (talk) 04:14, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Sdpdude9 However, if there is no such existing article existed, then we would wan to have (check/tick) the “leave a redirect behind” box (very important). Glad I can help. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 08:58, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- iOS 15 has a new function called Private Relay (Apple website). This can hide the user's IP when they use Safari browser. This is like using a VPN in that we see another IP address instead. It is opt-in and only for those who pay extra for iCloud. It will come to Safari users on OSX later. There is a technical discussion about what this means for the Wikimedia wikis.
Problems
- Some gadgets and user-scripts add items to the portlets (article tools) part of the skin. A recent change to the HTML may have made those links a different font-size. This can be fixed by adding the CSS class
.vector-menu-dropdown-noicon
. [1]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 28 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 29 September. It will be on all wikis from 30 September (calendar).
- The GettingStarted extension was built in 2013, and provides an onboarding process for new account holders in a few versions of Wikipedia. However, the recently developed Growth features provide a better onboarding experience. Since the vast majority of Wikipedias now have access to the Growth features, GettingStarted will be deactivated starting on 4 October. [2]
- A small number of users will not be able to connect to the Wikimedia wikis after 30 September. This is because an old root certificate will no longer work. They will also have problems with many other websites. Users who have updated their software in the last five years are unlikely to have problems. Users in Europe, Africa and Asia are less likely to have immediate problems even if their software is too old. You can read more.
- You can receive notifications when someone leaves a comment on user talk page or mentions you in a talk page comment. Clicking the notification link will now bring you to the comment and highlight it. Previously, doing so brought you to the top of the section that contained the comment. You can find more information in T282029.
Future changes
- The Reply tool will be deployed to the remaining wikis in the coming weeks. It is currently part of "Discussion tools" in Beta features at most wikis. You will be able to turn it off in Editing Preferences. See the list of wikis. [3]

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- A more efficient way of sending changes from Wikidata to Wikimedia wikis that show them has been enabled for the following 10 wikis: mediawiki.org, the Italian, Catalan, Hebrew and Vietnamese Wikipedias, French Wikisource, and English Wikivoygage, Wikibooks, Wiktionary and Wikinews. If you notice anything strange about how changes from Wikidata appear in recent changes or your watchlist on those wikis you can let the developers know.
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 5 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 6 October. It will be on all wikis from 7 October (calendar).
- Some gadgets and bots that use the API to read the AbuseFilter log might break. The
hidden
property will no longer say an entry isimplicit
for unsuppressed log entries about suppressed edits. If your bot needs to know this, do a separate revision query. Additionally, the property will have the valuefalse
for visible entries; previously, it wasn't included in the response. [4] - A more efficient way of sending changes from Wikidata to Wikimedia wikis that show them will be enabled for all production wikis. If you notice anything strange about how changes from Wikidata appear in recent changes or your watchlist you can let the developers know.
Future changes
- You can soon get cross-wiki notifications in the iOS Wikipedia app. You can also get notifications as push notifications. More notification updates will follow in later versions. [5]
- The JavaScript variables
wgExtraSignatureNamespaces
,wgLegalTitleChars
, andwgIllegalFileChars
will soon be removed frommw.config
. These are not part of the "stable" variables available for use in wiki JavaScript. [6] - The JavaScript variables
wgCookiePrefix
,wgCookieDomain
,wgCookiePath
, andwgCookieExpiration
will soon be removed from mw.config. Scripts should instead usemw.cookie
from the "mediawiki.cookie" module. [7]

Do you see that your changes are listing the NCAA conferences twice and deleting pro leagues that have been there for 8 years? Ejgreen77 rightly updated to the current NCAA Div I conferences with this edit (they should have used an edit summary though). The WCHA men's hockey ceased this offseason with many of its teams re-forming the CCHA (as I explained in my edit summary). I agree with EJ, re-organizations that contain the same set of players and teams do not need a discussion as the consensus is simply NCAA Div I men's hockey conferences. Please kindly revert yourself. Thank you, Yosemiter (talk) 00:54, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Yosemiter Pls wait for other editors opinions and the discussion is closed and updated, if any, as per closing statement for any changes to the notability guidelines needs to go through discussion prior changing. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 01:03, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Your edit is flat out wrong though. You are duplicating the NCAA conferences and deleting a list of pro leagues that we have discussed (and has been in place) over several years. Please look at the lists above. Yosemiter (talk) 01:06, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Yosemiter I just simply reverted your edit. The point is that if any changes to the notability guidelines needs to go through a discussion and get consensus agreement by editors which is the standard procedures. You might want to post a message on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ice Hockey about this discussion so the interest editors would respond to this discussion. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 01:11, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- And I reverted your first because you made a clear mistake in deleting a long used list of pro leagues that has been there for 8 years. The consensus of th hockey project is the current of list of NCAA Div I. I know, because I am involved there. Please review your first edit that I reverted or just look at the changes today in this diff. It is pretty clear your edit is the most significant change. You made a mistake, I corrected via revert, and you then reverted back. Yosemiter (talk)

Counter Vandalsim Training
Greetings — I hope you are doing your best. I noticed that you are a trainer at Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit and It would be my honor if you also teach me because I always try my best to revert obvious Vandalism but unfortunately I made a mistake and got called out on my talk. If you are interested in teaching kindly let mw know. Thanks:)) GeneralIntrovert (talk) 14:24, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- GeneralIntrovert Good day and thank you for interested in CVAU program. You revert on this was a correct one and I am sorry to know that you received a death threat as a result of it. It is extremely common for the counter vandalism editors to receive abusive languages, personal threads and trolling messages and all we could do is not to engage wit such a message and keep out cool and continue to work on the counter vandalism work. To join the the program, the editor needs to have at least 200 main edits and currently you have 37 - see here. Once you reach min 200 edits and you still want to join the program then pop back here. At the mean time pls complete WP:TWA (about 60 min) to understand the Wikipedia fundamental guidelines. Lastly, since you are new to Wikipedia, my advice to you is to do some copy edit (grammar, reword etc) edits first instead of working on vandalism edits. Stay safe and best. New pages patroller admission
Hey Cassiopeia! I saw you listed in the trainers' section of WP:NPRSCHOOL. I'd love to become a new page reviewer, it'd be great if you could point me in the right direction :-) Thanks, WikiLinuz (talk) 12:05, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- WikiLinuz Good day and thank you for interested in joining the NPPS program. Pls note that the program is very comprehensive and it covers many topics related to New page requirements. There are 10 assignments and one final exam. Reading material and links will be provided and do expect a lot of reading time and time spend on working on the assignment. Many participants abandon the program even after being informed of the above for they didnt anticipate the amount of time is needed. There is no time frame to complete the program and participants usually would take about 3 months to finish it. If you are still interest then pls complete WP:TWA first (only takes an hour) then pop back here and let me know so I could set up the program for you. Stay safe and best. AFC academy
Yo cassiopeia since your a cvua and npps instructor I think you can also be a WP:AFC/A instructor. I don't think you know that there's an afc academy so I'm informing you. The academy is basically dead but you can revive it with the help of some experienced patrollers. 223.223.140.178 (talk) 10:05, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
