Sean Strickland
https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Sean_Strickland&action=history this new user is posting about Sean and putting "Strickland has made a number of comments disparaging women and women's rights, as well as LGBT people and their rights." in the first paragraph with additional ones disparaging his name. I feel this is more opinionated than factual and not necessary. Thoughts? Marty2Hotty (talk) 16:50, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- Marty2Hoty Good day and thank you for the question. The section indicates what Strickland "said which is Stirland's own believe or opinion" which is supported by sources . When you are public figure, what you said/opinions at times will be recorded which in this sense it has which he said to the media and what he said was published to the public. We as the Wikipedia editor adhere to Wikipedia guidelines and the most important guidelines and also the policy of Wikipedia is info added or changed need to be supported by independent, reliable source for verification. In this case, the content is made the guideline and policy. Of course, not all sourced content are added to the body text, but whose are relevant. In this case, Strickland has always been comfortable voiced his opinions/believe in many topics, some are less interest by the media and some are recorded and published. In this case it is recorded in Wikipedia.
- RE" UFN 249 - I am one of the mentor for editor who would like to be a new page reviewer in Wikipedia and I am the one who set up the New Page Patroller School program for editor who want to participate in the program - see here Wikipedia:New pages patrol/School. I am not only the mentor for NPPS and teacher for counter vandalism unit - see [[1]] , but also a mentor for new editors and reviewer for the new page and draft page. Since you are here and I saw you submitted UFN 249 for review after I have stated in the draft page why the article did not meet the GNG guidelines. I know you dont like you dont like when I stated something of your edits are not accordingly to the Wikipedia guidelines and feeling that I am against you; however, in contrary I am here to help you just like all other editor in regardless what is their interest topics to edit in Wikipedia. Most mma editors, even thought edited before me, only interest to edit and do not care or know some of the Wikipedia guidelines and just use their own judgement and want to get the info out in Wikipedia. I have mentioned to you many times, and I hope this will make it clear to you this time. To have a page in Wikipedia, the subject needs to have significant coverage by the independent, reliable source where by the the sources talk about the subject in length and in depth and not passing mentioned for verification. So UFN 249, source (MMA junkie) even thought it is an independent, reliable source, it does not talk about the subject in length and in dept. Secondly, the is only one source and not supported by significant coverage by he media. Thus fails the GNG guidelines. X or any social media are considered not reliable sources as anyone can write what ever they want. Any private company governments of any country (UFC, Microsoft, AT&T, Samsung, US government sites, German government sites, Mastercard and etc.) are considered NOT reliable sources for published sources need to be with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. So the question is that who is checking source that is published private company governments of any country since they are the one who provide the source? Not the company nor the gunmen because they can said what they want. And further more, it is NOT independent, when the source stated about their own company/country. Remember, Wikipedia is an enclyopedia and not a plaftform, not a news papaer. We do do breaking news and need to get the info out to public asap but we recorded the subject if they meet Wikipedia GNG guildlines and of the content meet independnent, reliable sources verification guidelines.
- I want to thank you for the time you spent on editing Wikipedia. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 02:25, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information. I felt the 249 article could have been published earlier but a few days later is not a problem. I kind of disagree with you on the official source like UFC/ESPN, because all the "third party" sources do is quote what those official sources say. Some journalists on X are very reputable, but I understand we cannot draw the line between who is reputable or not. Many third party sources end up just linking to the X post anyway, so it is a little strange, but I understand.
- Anyways, UFC 307, a 2008 editor put "This will be the first UFC PPV to take place at the same time as a WWE PPV and livestreaming event—Bad Blood—since the two companies merged under TKO Group Holdings in September 2023." on the title. He is an active WWE editor and they feel this is relevant information to be put. I think it should be written lower due to the significance. Thoughts? Marty2Hotty (talk) 13:52, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- Marty2Hoty Good day. You are not disagree with me but disagree with Wikipedia policies and guidelines. All social media is considered not reliable. If journalist post on X then they should have an article on their websites. RMEMBER Wikipedia is not a newspaper to publish breaking news but record what is relevant of the subject. So we dont add/change or create an article based on social media sources but independent, reliable source. Even some of the reliable source we can not use for GNG requirement if the source is reliable but not independent. Remember to have a page on Wikipedia the subject needs to have significant coverage from independent, reliable sources where by the sources talk about the subject in length and in depth and not passing mention for verification. (note the highlighted words here which need to be met).
- Secondly, (for example) We also dont post other Microsoft subsidiary/sister project/product for other products for the subject of the article is only for the subject itself. So same as UFC 307 with WWE. Remember, we are not newspaper or writing a book or media site here, but Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia. Have a good ay. Cassiopeia talk 22:54, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- Are you going to edit UFC 307's page. Someone added that in the beginning. Some journalists do not add everything they post on their social media on their websites. I also do not think a company like UFC/ESPN would lie about any of their events or fighters/bouts. That has not happened since UFC existed. All journalists do is use the official source and post it on their website. For example, a bout is mentioned on UFC's broadcast. So MMAJunkie just publishes it. It's the same as using the official source, is it not? Marty2Hotty (talk) 02:08, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- Pls note that not all published content is inclusive as per guidlines. It has not directly relevant and important enough to be added. Cassiopeia talk 03:48, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Tech News: 2024-34
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Feature news
- Editors who want to re-use references but with different details such as page numbers, will be able to do so by the end of 2024, using a new sub-referencing feature. You can read more about the project and how to test the prototype.
- Editors using tracking categories to identify which pages use specific extensions may notice that six of the categories have been renamed to make them more easily understood and consistent. These categories are automatically added to pages that use specialized MediaWiki extensions. The affected names are for: DynamicPageList, Kartographer, Phonos, RSS, Score, WikiHiero. Wikis that have created the category locally should rename their local creation to match. Thanks to Pppery for these improvements. [2]
- Technical volunteers who edit modules and want to get a list of the categories used on a page, can now do so using the
categories
property ofmw.title objects
. This enables wikis to configure workflows such as category-specific edit notices. Thanks to SD001 for these improvements. [3][4]
Bugs status
- Your help is needed to check if any pages need to be moved or deleted. A maintenance script was run to clean up unreachable pages (due to Unicode issues or introduction of new namespaces/namespace aliases). The script tried to find appropriate names for the pages (e.g. by following the Unicode changes or by moving pages whose titles on Wikipedia start with
Talk:WP:
so that their titles start withWikipedia talk:
), but it may have failed for some pages, and moved them to Special:PrefixIndex/T195546/ instead. Your community should check if any pages are listed there, and move them to the correct titles, or delete them if they are no longer needed. A full log (including pages for which appropriate names could be found) is available in phab:P67388. - Editors who volunteer as mentors to newcomers on their wiki are once again able to access lists of potential mentees who they can connect with to offer help and guidance. This functionality was restored thanks to a bug fix. Thank you to Mbch331 for filing the bug report. You can read about that, and 18 other community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week.
Project updates
- The application deadline for the Product & Technology Advisory Council (PTAC) has been extended to September 16. Members will help by providing advice to Foundation Product and Technology leadership on short and long term plans, on complex strategic problems, and help to get feedback from more contributors and technical communities. Selected members should expect to spend roughly 5 hours per month for the Council, during the one year pilot. Please consider applying, and spread the word to volunteers you think would make a positive contribution to the committee.

Question from YouthChangemaker (19:34, 22 August 2024)
Suggest steps so I can start writing articles that get published on wiki --YouthChangemaker (talk) 19:35, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- YouthChangemake Good day and thank you for the question. To have an article in Wikipedia, the subject needs to pass WP:GNG guidelines. To meet the GNG guidelines, he subject of the article needs to have significant coverage from independent, reliable sources such as from the major newspapers and books where by the sources talk about the subject in length and in dept and not passing mention for verification. All social sites, including utube, X, any sources that are related/affiliated/associated with the subject are considered either not independent or reliable. Pls read WP:Your first article for further details. I suggest you to complete WP:TWA, a 90 mins program, so you could understand some of the Wikipedia guidelines for editing. Let me know if you have further questions as I am here to help. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 22:45, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Feature news
- Administrators can now test the temporary accounts feature on test2wiki. This was done to allow cross-wiki testing of temporary accounts, for when temporary accounts switch between projects. The feature was enabled on testwiki a few weeks ago. No further temporary account deployments are scheduled yet. Temporary Accounts is a project to create a new type of user account that replaces IP addresses of unregistered editors which are no longer made public. Please share your opinions and questions on the project talk page.
- Later this week, editors at wikis that use FlaggedRevs (also known as "Pending Changes") may notice that the indicators at the top of articles have changed. This change makes the system more consistent with the rest of the MediaWiki interface. [5]
Bugs status
- Editors who use the 2010 wikitext editor, and use the Character Insert buttons, will no longer experience problems with the buttons adding content into the edit-summary instead of the edit-window. You can read more about that, and 26 other community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week.
Project updates
- Please review and vote on Focus Areas, which are groups of wishes that share a problem. Focus Areas were created for the newly reopened Community Wishlist, which is now open year-round for submissions. The first batch of focus areas are specific to moderator workflows, around welcoming newcomers, minimizing repetitive tasks, and prioritizing tasks. Once volunteers have reviewed and voted on focus areas, the Foundation will then review and select focus areas for prioritization.
- Do you have a project and are willing to provide a three (3) month mentorship for an intern? Outreachy is a twice a year program for people to participate in a paid internship that will start in December 2024 and end in early March 2025, and they need mentors and projects to work on. Projects can be focused on coding or non-coding (design, documentation, translation, research). See the Outreachy page for more details, and a list of past projects since 2013.

- Editors who use the Special:UnusedTemplates page can now filter out pages which are expected to be there permanently, such as sandboxes, test-cases, and templates that are always substituted. Editors can add the new magic word
__EXPECTUNUSEDTEMPLATE__
to a template page to hide it from the listing. Thanks to Sophivorus and DannyS712 for these improvements. [6] - Editors who use the New Topic tool on discussion pages, will now be reminded to add a section header, which should help reduce the quantity of newcomers who add sections without a header. You can read more about that, and 28 other community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week.
- Last week, some Toolforge tools had occasional connection problems. The cause is still being investigated, but the problems have been resolved for now. [7]
- Translation administrators at multilingual wikis, when editing multiple translation units, can now easily mark which changes require updates to the translation. This is possible with the new dropdown menu.
Project updates
- A new draft text of a policy discussing the use of Wikimedia's APIs has been published on Meta-Wiki. The draft text does not reflect a change in policy around the APIs; instead, it is an attempt to codify existing API rules. - We are analyzing which percentage of current queries are better served by other systems like the REST API or search.
- Wikimedia projects integration:
- We have worked on moving the Wikidata Item link out of the toolbox section of the sidebar of an article. It has been rolled out to the first wikis: ukwiki, hewiki, fawiki (phab:T66315)
- We are working on decreasing the amount of irrelevant changes from Wikidata in the watchlist and recent changes on Wikipedia and co by correcting the tracking behaviour of the Lua function mw.wikibase.entity:getSitelink() (phab:T295356)
- Wikibase REST API: We continued improving errors and error messages.

Mistake, I think
I don't think User:RadicalUranium was vandalizing the article Old Ephraim. He's been working on it for a while. I think the blanking was just a goof. Joyous! Noise! 04:28, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Joyous! and RadicalUranium: Hi Joyous! Thank you for the message. Hi RadiccalUranium, kindly state that in edit summary next time, so we the counter vandalism fighters would know and will check back of the edit as you stated in your talk page I made a massive copypaste error while adjusting the article and it duplicated sections of my work. I’m attempting to fix it.. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 04:38, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- That was absolutely my bad, I greatly appreciate you standing up for me @Joyous! and I sincerely apologize for not being clear with my edits @Cassiopeia. You both are wonderful, thank you. RadicalUranium (talk) 04:51, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- RadicalUranium Of about more than 80K counter vandalism work I have done, I could not count more than a hand full of editors who something nice to me who I place a warning(s) message on their talk page. Thank you for your clean-up efforts
Thank you for reverting vandalism at Condottiero and other articles related to Italian-Turkish conflicts. If you see any similar vandalism, please make sure to mention User talk:2A01:E34:ECAC:93E0:D5D6:C1ED:39BC:EB85 in your WP:AIV reports, as that will include the history of the interactions this morning, plus you can escalate the report immediately to block evasion. —C.Fred (talk) 10:24, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- C.Fred Good day and no worries. I have reported the ip editor on AIV and also (not related to this editor - 2A01:C23:91A0:F000:8CC3:E4DE:2CB3:CED but both of the ip editors are still on AIV report even they have been blocked. I will do as your advice of the above if I see anything of the sort. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 10:28, 7 September 2024 (UTC)

- C.Fred I think so but I am not sure. 2A01:C23:91A0:F000:8CC3:E4DE:2CB3:CED was blocked by Oshwah. Since you are here can you see if 65.192.20.6 deserves a block (warned twice) , I think the editor might be the sock or meat sock of 108.24.196.46 as 108.24.196.46 was blocked for similar edits on talk pages of Palestine and Gaza/Israel pages as both IP users are from VA and same town/city. Requesting NPP school
I just recommended to attend NPP school so, I would like to attend one. Please be my trainer. Thanks. I already done the essentials Warm Regards, Miminity (talk) (contribs) 03:57, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- Miminity Sorry for the late reply. I saw the ANI and understand the issues at hand. Pls note that NPPS program do require a lot of you time as it is comprehensive and have 9 assingments and 1 final exam. Most participants finished the program in 3 months but there is no time frame to finish it. You work on your own pace as we are all volunteers and at time we have other more important commitments in our personal life. If you want work on the assignment due to exams or other things require your attention in your life for the 2 weeks then just leave a note at the "communication section" of the assignment do I may know. If you still want to proceed then let me know and I will set up the program for you. Be safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 05:34, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- Idk, Let's see. I tried to become a good NPP and slowed my pace and actually follow what people from ANI told me to do. So, I think I pass FOR NOW. But, I will learn more and more since I continue to review and read instruction carefully. Warm Regards, Miminity (talk) (contribs) 07:45, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

AIV report
Are you sure that you listed the correct IP for this report? I only see one edit that might be mildly problematic, and no warning on the talk page. Is there something I'm just not seeing? Joyous! Noise! 02:57, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

Double draftification
Draft:Krikor Bogharian has already been draftified before, so you cannot draftify it again. Furthermore, it has sources listed that fully support the content and notability. Please be more careful when patrolling. (t · c) buidhe 04:18, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- Good day. I dont know anywhere guideline states it can not be double dratification and if you know then send me the link as I dont see in WP:DRAFTNO unless I missed read them. Kindly add inline citation as per your sources. Cassiopeia talk 04:39, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- This is WP:DRAFTNO#8. Another editor moved it back to mainspace, so you cannot draftify again. Inline citations are not required. (t · c) buidhe 04:51, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- I see, so it is not about double dratification but object by you which you move it to the main space. Inline citation would help for reviewer to know which sentence is as per which source but since that is only one sentence in your sub class article guess you dont want to do it. Could you please update Aljamain Sterlings picture?
The current photo is from 6 years ago so it’s quite out of date, could you update it to his appearance from UFC 300? CoyPandora (talk) 11:35, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- CoyPandora, Good day. Photos/Images uploaded in in Wikipedia need to be free of copyright from the copyrighted holder - this means whoever took the photos/created images allow anyone in the world to use the photos/images by "by irrevocably agree to release their copyrighted images/photos under the CC BY-SA 4.0 License". So there are thousands of Sterling photos in the internet but we can only used them in Wikipedia pages if the copyright holder allow it on their website or they took the photo and uploaded to Wiki Commons. As such, I would not able update Sterlings' photo without the said findings. Be safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 22:35, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

Tech News: 2024-37
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Feature news
- Starting this week, the standard syntax highlighter will receive new colors that make them compatible in dark mode. This is the first of many changes to come as part of a major upgrade to syntax highlighting. You can learn more about what's to come on the help page. [9][10]
- Editors of wikis using Wikidata will now be notified of only relevant Wikidata changes in their watchlist. This is because the Lua functions
entity:getSitelink()
andmw.wikibase.getSitelink(qid)
will have their logic unified for tracking different aspects of sitelinks to reduce junk notifications from inconsistent sitelinks tracking. [11]
Project updates
- Users of all Wikis will have access to Wikimedia sites as read-only for a few minutes on September 25, starting at 15:00 UTC. This is a planned datacenter switchover for maintenance purposes. More information will be published in Tech News and will also be posted on individual wikis in the coming weeks. [12]
- Contributors of 11 Wikipedias, including English will have a new
MOS
namespace added to their Wikipedias. This improvement ensures that links beginning withMOS:
(usually shortcuts to the Manual of Style) are not broken by Mooré Wikipedia (language codemos
). [13]

CVUA
Hi, unfortunately I am in school right now and I have made the decision to temporarily take a break on Wikipedia for the sake of my education (and somewhat for my mental health). Thanks for being a great mentor for our short time together. I may return occasionally and work on my assignments but I'm just letting you know that I will mostly remain inactive on Wikipedia (although I still will frequently check my talk page). Thanks, GoldRomean (talk) 01:49, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
- GoldRomean Good day and thank you for informing me. You are always welcome to continue when you school break starts. Stay safe and best. Cassiopeia talk 01:51, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
