Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Where are you now? I'm waiting for your map. :) — иz нίpнόp ʜᴇʟᴘ! 10:55, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. That's a lovely "card"...
Sorry, been busy with urgent, unexpected, real life stuff that had to take precedence over this place - have hardly had time to hear myself think for weeks...
Hope to be back sometime (relatively) soon in the New Year, and haven't forgotten your map - just don't hold your breath at the moment.
Apologies to anyone else reading this who I neglected too - that pesky real life stuff has to come first I'm afraid.
Happy holidays to you and to all - I'm just reaching the end of a quiet but extremely good Xmas day with family, full of food and drink. Hope you enjoyed yours as much as I enjoyed mine. Begoontalk 12:33, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
You're welcome and thanks too for the holiday wish. I'm glad to hear you are OK right now. :) — "ʀᴜ" ɴᴏᴛ ʀᴜssɪᴀɴ ᴡʜᴜᴛ? 17:18, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

Steamtown

Hi, I wanted to share with you the news that Steamtown, U.S.A. is going to be a featured article on 1/16. --Ishtar456 (talk) 22:46, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

well, it might not be. I did a couple of edits and the person who was slicing it up before noticed and strated slicing again. So I am going to ask that it not be featured. --Ishtar456 (talk) 00:43, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Thanks for your support. --evrik (talk) 15:25, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
You're welcome. Mistakes happen when people are busy - I think and hope that was all that happened. Hope to see you around again, and hope it didn't disillusion you too much. Cheers. Begoontalk 15:02, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi Begoon

This is User:kevjonesin.

I noticed you weighing in at User talk:John Reaves#Protection of Abby Martin. User:LaurentianShield and I have been discussing the Abby Martin situation—and it's implications—a bit on my talk page. Others are welcome to weigh in. --Kevjonesin (talk) 05:52, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi kevjonesin. I looked at the discussion on your talkpage, and I don't really think I could add a lot at the moment, sorry. Viriditas talks a lot of sense, though - you could do worse than to listen to him. Begoontalk 15:14, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

On regards to a new Sasanian Empire map!

Dear Begoon!

I just took a look at the Sasanian Empire talk page and I believe that a consensus has finally been reached!

https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:Sasanian_Empire#Revised_RfC_proposal

https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:Sasanian_Empire#RfC_reply

3 editors agreed to have with my proposal and one editor opposed my proposal. Kinda funny, the editor that opposed my proposal is the very same editor that I had that edit war with. Oh well.

I left a note on the Map Workshop section telling you and Yug that you guys are free to make the map now! :D Keeby101 (talk) 05:41, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

I answered you over there. Cheers. Begoontalk 11:35, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello again Begoon. Hello again Begoon, I saw what you had to say on the Sasanian Empire talk page. Your right that I should not personalize it and I didn't mean to do so. I'm sorry for not taking your advice. :(

Anyway, I will do my best to reach a consensus. Even if it means going along with other editor's ideas. Cheers! :D Keeby101 (talk) 01:01, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

P.S.

You mentioned that you didn't like the original research that was in the discussion. Personally I didn't know what you were referring to when you said that. All of the sources that I have provided in the discussion except for Encyclopedia Iranica are books written by authors and scholars. Which is why I ask if you were referring to Encyclopedia Iranica as original research?

Please let me know. :) Keeby101 (talk) 01:01, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Keeby, keep the discussion there, where it belongs, please. I explained there: we are a tertiary source, and it's not really our business to be picking the primary/secondary sources we agree with to synthesise a paticular result. Begoontalk 01:07, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Voiceovers

Saw your comment on the Wikipediocracy forum about recording and laughed. There are a few articles that I've recorded under a previous username (a while back) and the comments were that I sounded like Alec Guinness. Were I to do that, I'd have every Star Wars nerd asking me to do their answering machine and voicemail messages, or worse reciting Star Wars articles--something I don't have the time or interest for.--ColonelHenry (talk) 16:50, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

Lovely to be watched. Glad you laughed - that's good endorphins, right there. There's worse things than sounding like Alec Guinness. Wish I did. Watch out for that milk, though - it pours itself all over you when you least expect it - serially. Thanks for stopping by, it was genuinely good to hear from you - just note that, whilst I don't insist you bring beer, I couldn't help noticing that you didn't. The cheap Aldi kind of crap will be ok next time. It's the gesture, not the item itself. Begoontalk 17:08, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
lol. milk is only good for coating the stomach after its lining has been worn out by cheap liquor. I've been thinking of creating a satirical barnstar-type thingy with this File:Oldfashioned-cocktail.png. I prefer a stiff drink and loose women...but next time, you can count on me for at least a case of PBR.--ColonelHenry (talk) 17:19, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
coincidentally, I was eating Froot Loops while writing you.--ColonelHenry (talk) 17:21, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

Cool. Have you always been a Colonel, or did you start out as PrivateHenry or something? We have some Lord xxx's here, which always makes me smile (in a "grimace" sort of way), and I just wondered. Begoontalk 17:39, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

  • We all start as a bear cub somewhere. I did serve in uniform, years ago, but the username isn't a reference to that or an attempt at self-aggrandizement...the ColonelHenry username is a reference/homage to Rutgers where, many years ago, I started as an awkward freshman trying to find my way in the world.--ColonelHenry (talk) 18:01, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Cool again. I've been trying to find my way in the world for a ridiculous amount of time. Stubborn world. Refuses to show me my way. You've been a breath of fresh air (truly - I mean that). I'll be here all week - try the veal, it's awesome, I'm told. Begoontalk 18:17, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
We never find our way...we just keep searching. We'd be disappointed if we ever found anything that resembles a conclusion or otherwise there'd be no reason to get drunk to wash away the misery of falling short. To indulge in a little Kipling: "we are poor little lambs who have lost our way...little black sheep who have gone astray...gentleman rankers out on a spree, damned from here to eternity. Lord ha'mercy on such as we." All the best. It was good crossing your path today.--ColonelHenry (talk) 18:44, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

Since you don't have e-mail enabled, I'll make this objectionable, cynical and WP:BEANS-y remark here

You wrote "Time to wake up to that if you really do want to continue editing" on the talkpage of a blocked editor. Considering the background., I don't see much realism in your advice. How about "Time to create a sock if you really do want to continue editing"? And another sock when that's blocked, etc. Or "Time to learn about open proxies". One can continue editing while blocked, as one obvious case currently editing Newyorkbrad's blog has demonstrated. In fact it makes me tired how easy Wikipedia makes editing while blocked. I feel a little sad for the blocked users who think they have to bother with the whole "request unblock" hoopla. Just thinking out loud here. Bishonen | talk 16:49, 3 May 2014 (UTC).

No, that's fine. Firstly I don't see them as sophisticated (or malevolent) enough to sock as a solution. If they are either, then they're already trolling and I lose anyway by getting sucked in. Secondly, I said there I only replied because I was pinged. It's more to do with trying to help the child by yelling at it when it yanks my chain. Oh wait, that never works at home, either... Fair point.
Seriously, though, if there's a possibility they are one of those people who, when you finally say, "this is it", will change and ask for help, I wanted to give that chance. If they're not then I don't see what I lose, apart from your theory they may take it as advice to sock. I might even learn more or find closure by forcing it to a head. Perhaps you're right, and it was ill advised - but that's not my assessment. Anyone who would read that "advice to sock" into it would likely do that anyway. I'm very comfortable with what I said, for the reasons I said it, and I'd do so again - which is not, of course, to say that I can't see your concern, you have experience I don't here - I'm wiser for having heard it. Begoontalk 16:58, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

MOSFLAG

Don't worry, I'm not offended at all! GiantSnowman 16:10, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

Good. I'm pleased. You can never tell in this place, and it's a very emotional discussion. Whatever side you're on I think you have to smile at this, from John: "Next we'll hear that every time we remove decorative flags from a Wikipedia article, a kitten dies." Or maybe not... Thanks for the note. It's good when folks take the time to do that. Begoontalk 04:57, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Thank you. I never function properly before my first coffee. (or after my eleventh beer)

The annoying "ANI silent edit conflict" bug has bitten me 2 or 3 times in the last couple of days, removing bits of my comments, and lots of people are unaware it happens, so they assume someone has removed stuff. Nothing to worry about at all (except I wish the bug would get fixed). Good you stopped by, and enjoy your editing. Cheers. Begoontalk 15:45, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Precious

encouragement
Thank you for your contributions to quality articles such as Malaysia, for a clean user page, for "this wonderful reduction of arbitrary criterion application to the absurdum it truly is.", for wisdom and encouragement, - repeating: you are an awesome Wikipedian (5 July 2010)!

--Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:00, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Thank you - and thank you for the time you spend doing this.

Your messages are deeply thoughtful, poignant and often very welcome reminders. I had forgotten one of the edits you link, one made me smile, and one makes me sad, but with hope that situation may not be forever.

You are the awesome Wikipedian, Gerda - and this place would be much poorer without you, and the joy which you spread. Take care. Begoontalk 16:39, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Thank you! The time spent doing this is quite enjoyable, which can't be said for every other minute ;) - I realized that my best way of mourning - and I practise for a long time already - is spreading bright images around the world, a cremation first, then a blue duck, now the lambananas (top of my talk, look for the links). I can't replace language precise as this, but try to keep its spirit alive ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:09, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
As always, you link to something which says it all. You're doing a damn good job, and I'm in awe at the concept of following every cremation with a blue duck, so long as it's not a Blue duck, huh? There's some poisonous, vindictive crap goes on here all the time, for some reason "being right" and "winning" has come to matter more than it ever should (i.e. not at all), and anyone who sets their mission as helping us rise above it, as you have done for so long, has my undying respect. It's good to hear you enjoy it, too, since it makes it less likely you'll stop. Begoontalk 17:19, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
Chin up + Walk lightly and remain yourself, above the fray, were things that I took to my heart, - It's not easy to stop me ;) - I have a red category on my user page, DYK? - Have one more absurdum, for another smile, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:35, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
Heh. Gorgeous, and yes, I smiled at the absurdum. I saw your red-linked category, and added another for you. You may not remove it. Enjoy. Begoontalk 17:42, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks with duck attack, the most gorgeous sad pic and the lambananas, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:32, 5 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi Jim. I replied there. Thanks for the "heads up". Begoontalk 16:48, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, would have restored it myself had I known about the block. I did link Amit Agarwal as there is an article. The note at Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics didn't seem to generate any interest... Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 21:50, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
