- I've deactivated the highlighted code in the first box's "Renders as" section above as it contains one case of Wikilink in External link, a tracked syntax error. If anyone needs to see it as a live case, either see it here in a previous version of this page or copy the highlighted section and temporarily preview it in your sandbox. Thank you. [edit]Thanks for uploading File:Livas.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.
If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.
Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 20:29, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of File:Livadas English publications.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Livadas English publications.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted content borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Majora (talk) 03:33, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
Permission for republication of book covers?
[edit]Hello! Your recent upload File:Covers of English publications of Yannis Livadas.jpg doesn't qualify as public domain, and it will be deleted within 7 days if a proper license isn't added. You noted that the publishers of these books have given permission for these covers to be republished. This may be enough to keep them, Do you have a source, preferably a URL, that verifies this authorization? Rebbing 14:10, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
- I will upload more links as soon as possible! Beatboy16 (talk) 16:32, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
- The links you added don't help your cause: the Austerity Measures page says nothing about copying, and the terms of use page clearly states that copying is forbidden: "You may not copy, post, transmit, store, publish, download or otherwise use our . . . content . . . in any way for any other reason without our prior written approval. You must not use any part of the content on our site for commercial purposes without obtaining a licence to do so from us or our licensors." Why did you say that these publishers "allow []images from the covers of their books to appear in [W]ikipedia and everywhere"? Rebbing 16:40, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
- You are correct. I will delete the image from the page that is connected to and I will also try to delete the file immediately. Beatboy16 (talk) 08:34, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for being a good sport about this. However, the party's not over yet. I did some research, and I think this may be an acceptable fair use case under Wikipedia's non-free content policy and fair-use rationale guideline. If you're able to make the section on notable translations match up with the image, either by adding entries to the section for all the book covers shown in the image or removing book covers that aren't discussed, I think we can use this rationale:
Non-free media information and use rationale true – WARNING:Yannis Livadas
does not appear to exist!Check capitalization. Enter only the exact title of a single article with no [[link brackets]] or other formatting. It is also possible the indicated article was deleted.Description A collage of covers of English publications of Yannis Livadas's works.
Source It is believed that the cover art could be obtained from the publisher.
Article Portion used The entire front covers. Because the source images are book covers, a form of product packaging, the entire images are needed to identify the products, properly convey the meaning and branding intended, and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the images.
Low resolution? The copy is of sufficient resolution for commentary and identification but lower resolution than the original book covers. Copies made from it will be of inferior quality, unsuitable as artwork on pirate versions or other uses that would compete with the commercial purpose of the original artworks.
Purpose of use This is used in a biography of the author. The image is used for identification in the context of critical commentary of the works for which it serves as cover art. It makes a significant contribution to the reader's understanding of the article, which could not practically be conveyed by words alone. The image is used in a discussion of the author of the works, for purposes of commentary on the author and how it relates to these works. The discussion of the author would not be complete without referring to these works. Use for this purpose does not compete with the purposes of the original works, namely the book covers creators' ability to provide book cover design services and, in turn, marketing books to the public.
Replaceable? As book covers, the image is not replaceable by free content; any other image that shows the packaging of the books would also be copyrighted, and any version that is not true to the original would be inadequate for identification or commentary. There is no free image known, or reasonable possibility of creating one, that would convey the necessary information about the author.
Other information Use of the book cover in the article complies with Wikipedia's non-free content policy and fair use under United States copyright law as described above.

Cheers. Rebbing 13:05, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
- @Rebbing: I can guarantee you that no rationale you would be able to produce would allow for the use of this many copyrighted book covers on the article about the author. Since the article is not directly about the books it would be very difficult, nigh impossible, to make this work in a way that would not end up with these images at FFD and deleted anyways. Please let this image die. --Majora (talk) 13:41, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. A tag has been placed on Yannis Livadas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about something invented/coined/discovered by the article's creator or someone they know personally, and it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time.

A tag has been placed on Yannis Livadas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.
