- Ok, that's fine. However, please note that it's not actually based on consensus. The other committee members provide some nominations and I pick one. It's actually helpful to have more people making nominations as it gives me more options, but if you'd rather not, that's perfectly alright. AutomaticStrikeout 16:46, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Protection
Protecting Don't ask, Don't tell was a poor decision, as I haven't edited in 24 hours, and wasn't going to until the discussion was over. Frankly this is offensive, the user assuming I can't control my editing. Vandals are only blocked for recent abuse, as should be followed on RPP. CTF83! 10:29, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
- You were not blocked; instead, the article was fully protected from all editors, due to multiple editors' changes on the same theme. If you believe a consensus has been reached or wish for a second opinion, feel free to request unprotection at WP:RPP. Alternatively, {{editprotected}} can be used to request specific edits.—Bagumba (talk) 17:33, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Lakers–Clippers rivalry
On 9 November 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Lakers–Clippers rivalry, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the Hallway Series is named after the 70 feet (21 m) separating the locker rooms of the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers in Staples Center (pictured)? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lakers–Clippers rivalry. Jays/Marlins trade protection
The protection you put on Yunel Escobar and Jose Reyes' articles expired, and trade is still pending, leading IPs to start making changes again. Sounds like trade may not get finalized, assuming it is approved, for a couple more days... Echoedmyron (talk) 16:04, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
College football edit notice
Would you be able to help set up an edit notice for use on the pages of college football head coaches? There has been some instances of IP's only partly updating the win-loss record info. I'd appreciate it if someone could make an edit notice advising IP's to update all the information that requires updating. AutomaticStrikeout 21:23, 17 November 2012 (UTC)

- Not being an active participant there, I personally wouldn't be comfortable as an admin placing notices that haven't been discussed. Well, I'd even have a problem if I was active too. Tiki Barber article
I heard Barber's interview this morning on the Howard Stern show, where he mentions some biographical information that I added to his wiki page today. All of my additions have been removed; is citing a radio interview not acceptable? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.202.136.189 (talk) 20:42, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- Radio interviews are fine; however, specifics need to be given so that it is verifiable so that anyone can access the interview. See Wikipedia:Citing sources on how to cite your sources. Using {{Cite episode}} may be appropriate in this case. It would be easier to cite an online text source that mentions the facts in the interview (which I was unsuccessful in finding), but radio interviews are fine too.—Bagumba (talk) 21:03, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Yahweh Saves at ANI
I am also a Wikiproject Baseball member and take part in the talk page discussions. This is just a request, but in the future if you take someone to ANI over something involving the project, could you please put a notice up on the project talk page. I knew nothing about it till I looked at Yahweh's contributions history and learned he had been blocked. FYI, I've posted to Yahweh's talk page asking him to sign, and I've been blocked myself in the past. Take care and happy holidays....William 02:44, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
- It was a consideration. However, given that the complaint of signatures is fairly generic, and I did not think it required involved editors for the community to understand the issue, I decided not to leave anything at the project. In some cases, having projects involved is viewed as canvassing; I wouldn't buy it in this case, but did not feel it was worth the drama. I have no problem if you want to publicize it. Thanks for bringing this here.—Bagumba (talk) 02:55, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Infobox coding
Bagumba - do you know how to make the basketball infobox automatically display NBL (Autralia) team colors? I am in the process of converting the NBL player infobox to the standard basketball infobox and I think it would be nice to be able to display those team colors as we do with the NBA and Euroleague as a benefit to the NBL editors who might feel like they are losing something moving from the old infobox. There are only 8 teams so I am hoping this might be sort of easy. I don't mind trying it if you can point me to a resource that explains how. Thanks for any help you can give Rikster2 (talk) 20:02, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
- From what I can tell, {{Infobox NBL player}} doesn't currently have colors, so it wouldn't be a loss. I think you would need to modify {{Infobox basketball biography}} to add {{NBL colour}} and {{NBL colour cell}} in the headers where other "color" templates are called. You might also contact User:Frietjes who has merged in other leagues in the past.—Bagumba (talk) 23:25, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Chris Culliver
I restored Culliver's verbatim gay bashing quote to the article because I think the way he expressed his sentiments is almost as important as the sentiments themselves. There's a lot more in his statement than, "He would not want a gay teammate." Among other issues, his language raises the implicit question of what kind of an education did this guy get after three years of college?
I think the same is true of his apology, because "apology" is not the same as, "... a reflection of thoughts in my head, but they are not how I feel." But I did not restore it, hoping that you will instead.
The standard I always use is, "Is the article better off with or without the material in question?" In this case, I think the quotes make it better.
Cheers,
Lahaun (talk) 18:45, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note. My biggest concern was people not as fluent in English being even more confused by the quote, and the style putting him in perhaps a non-neutral light. I somewhat addressed neutrality with some good excerpts from his apology today. I'd like to use excepts instead of the original quote instead, its a bit long, but will leave for now.—Bagumba (talk) 21:39, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

I got a better set of pictures for Alley-oop (basketball) from a basketball game this weekend where Jabari Parker's team played Jahlil Okafor. Two of Parker's teammates (Tate and Nunn) who have committed to Illinois were on a 2-on-1. I have it starting with Nunn holding up 1 finger (to signal he wanted an Alley Oop) as he got to the three point arc. However it is 9 pics in landscape. I can probably crop it to portrait. I started with over 11 hundred pics and haven't even eliminated 200 of them yet. I also have the whole game on video. I hope to get my pictures winnowed down within a few days, but I will be pretty hectic. It may take me a few weeks.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 04:29, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
- Parker threw a more spectacular alley oop on an inbounds pass to a guy streaking down the lane, but I did not catch the throw part. I think it was to Kendall Pollard who has committed to Dayton. I know I don't have the whole play though. I should have hashtagged it for sportcenter top 10. It was a beauty.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 05:00, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
- Here are the original images. When I get around to it I will crop them and cut it down to 4 or 5 images for the article. I'll probably go with 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 since they are equally spaced and should be near perfect encyclopedic illustration of the play. However, I am not sure if without 6 it is clear he catches the ball in the air. It will be a few days though. I have only eliminated 400 of the 1182 images I started with.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 00:17, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
- Might be able to do without 1 and 6. I'm wary of a row of pictures spanning over half the width of page. Another thought would be to shoot video and upload the snippet.—Bagumba (talk) 00:34, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
- I did video this game as well, but since I can't man the video camera and the photo camera, I set it up on wide angle to capture the whole court. Also, since I don't want to use a lot of storage, I shot at 640 instead of 1280 or 1920. This is my first attempt at action video with this setup so I am not sure how that will look.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 00:40, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
- P.S. I am not sure if a two-second video highlight clip would violate a copyright. I have a request in at Wikipedia:Media_copyright_questions#Chicago_Public_High_School_League_video. - My computer has problem with video lately, so I might not be the best judge. Is it the resolution you find as a problem? I dont have much experience editing video (as an aside, was looking for a way to convert .mov to .mp3)—Bagumba (talk) 00:43, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
- Both are 640x480 I believe so the resolution is identical. However the conversion was very lossy in terms of detail. The original is not that sharp because I was not really trying to produce a video. It was just to give the appearance of doing big things so I could retain such a prime perch while just shooting photography. I don't know about .mov->.mp3. I can go to .mp4 with the free Moyea Video4web converter, which can crop portions out of an .mov and convert them or just convert the whole thing. The lossyiness seems to be occurring in the conversion to .ogv by the other software that I use.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 04:45, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

- Might be able to do without 1 and 6. I'm wary of a row of pictures spanning over half the width of page. Another thought would be to shoot video and upload the snippet.—Bagumba (talk) 00:34, 29 January 2013 (UTC)
I have added new images to the article. I tried presenting a 5-image sequence (as shown here to the right). P.S. I was in The New York Times (in the background a little out of focus) [ http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/29/sports/in-chicago-security-shares-spotlight-at-high-school-basketball-game.html here] to the left of my tripod setup.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:41, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Well, if we had to cut it to four, we could, but to see the whole play, this is the best we are going to do in pictures. It shows both players through the 5 shots. I don't know what percentage of alley oops are called by a signal from the dunker, but it is less tha 100% so the dunker signal is, of course, optional. If we had to do it in one picture, the original from before my two additions was as good as you could hope for. However, we are not limited. Someday, I may add a video and then we will be all set.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 19:32, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- Your last edit summary confused me.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 09:41, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- I didnt like the look of the sequence of 5 pictures broken up into two rows in the lead. The sequence is easier to follow in one row, so I chose to move it to the Examples section. It's also a good place because there is prose about the alley oop there, so it's easier to reference the picture while reading that section. The alternative is to have fewer than the original five pictures in the lead, which might satisfy User: Myasuda's earlier objection.—Bagumba (talk) 09:57, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- Would it be any better if we made a collage like the municipalities do?--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 22:36, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Also, what size should I use for the three-image version at Assist (basketball)? I tried 180, but three times 180 is 540. If you want you can reduce them to like 140 or 150.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 02:56, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Another one
Here is another AfD on a basketball player on the grounds of WP:NBASKETBALL who already meets WP:NBASKETBALL. It's stuff like this that makes me protective of that standard - people use it incorrectly all the time for AfD justification and that is what I fear more than a couple of non notables getting articles. Rikster2 (talk) 21:13, 15 February 2013 (UTC)
- "similar major professional sports league" already exists in NBASKETBALL, so the wording didn't prevent an AfD in this case. In all fairness, the version at the time the AfD was nominated didn't note he was a pro player in the prose, and the nominator probably just assumed it was another article created based on news of a murder. There was the external link to Liga ACB, which may or may not have been taken into consideration, but someone who doesnt know basketball in Spain wouldn't know if it qualified as a major league per NBASKETBALL either. BTW, I will get to those French sources you provided.—Bagumba (talk) 01:15, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- Although they could have read my edit summary that said "Note - subject meets NBASKETBALL as he played in the Spanish League - will add more later," or maybe sought to understand what leagues were covered before nominating for AfD while citing NBASKETBALL. Rikster2 (talk) 01:22, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
- Understand the frustration. We can always look at every failed AfD and ask why wasn't WP:BEFORE followed. I looked at their track record and seems to generally know what they are doing. I know it's a cliche sometimes, but AGF.—Bagumba (talk) 01:39, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi. I suspect Easy4me logs out and makes disruptive edits as an IP adress, 76.111.139.137, which would be a form of sock puppetry. - I've reviewed some FLs, which I have found time consuming enough. Admittedly, Howard is not a topic I'm too knowledgeable about either, not that it is required. Hey, B. I've got a couple of IPs who are determined to add a one-day retirement contract to Jeff Saturday's infobox: here. - If you are suggesting admin action, it's not really a policy or a guideline violation, so I would not do anything now. Perhaps an embedded comment in the Infobox, and maybe a link to the discussion in the talk page might establish consensus for editors who are unaware. Hells Bells in Fallujah
I contributed the info about the use of Hells Bells in the Battle of Fallujah the other week. Thanks for catching that the Marines' rationale was OR.
Since I'm new to editing, I'd like your advice on how to revise the submission. You're right that the precise rationale wasn't given in the book I cited, and it could just have easily been to intimidate, offend, or demoralize the fighters in the city, or simply to inspire the Marines. On the whole, websites (such as Democratic Underground and Free REpublic) do seem to confirm that that rationale was to draw out to the troops, but the websites and articles are themselves poorly sourced and seem speculative. And there is a book (No True Glory) that implicitly suggests alternative rationales.
I'd like to revise and resubmit the edit I made. In your opinion, would it be better to mention that there is debate concerning the rationale(s), or simply ignore that particular issue altogether? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kamandash (talk • contribs) 18:18, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for discussing this. I'm not familiar with the websites you mentioned, but WP:RS may be of help. Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard is also a place to pose questions about specific sources. Reliable sourcing aside, a larger issue I would have with its inclusion in Hells Bells (song) would be whether it is an important enough pop culture reference to mention. As with any popular song, there are lots of instances where the song was played. Personally, I would like to see multiple reliable sources that discuss the rationale or impact of its usage to warrant mention in the article. Otherwise, it would seem trivial to mention it in Hells Bells, and it might be more relevant to mention it in 2003 invasion of Iraq or some related article.—Bagumba (talk) 18:46, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

- For any or your own comments on my talk page, I don't mind if you use <del> as presecribe at WP:REDACT to strike any comments you would like to retract. As a courtesy to others, please leave a brief explanation, e.g. "redact", in your edit summary.—Bagumba (talk) 23:03, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
Apologies, not quite sure how to do that. If you could please remove it would be greatly appreciated.
NOT SURE HOW TO START NEW TALK The article seems to have been stripped of a great amount of detail. Not sure I understand the rationale behind this? Removing the entire Community Work section seems especially strange: almost as if there were a personal campaign against Mr. Moorad by some editors... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.155.80.248 (talk) 23:05, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
Honestly, I am done editing this article. Over the past months I've tried to add detail to the article, much of it coming from an MLB.com biography and some from more recent news articles, etc. I feel cheated as a Wikipedia user that my edits have been stripped in the name of mere technicalities. For the record, I'm not in contact with Mr. Moorad but in reality just a Padres fan. My apologies for the fib. But even that, it seems, gives no protection from the tyrrany of Wikipedia editors. Pretty interesting that when the community tries to get involved in editing an article, there is this harsh a response from Wikipedia editors. Of course, I understand fully: you editors have your niches here on the baseball sections of Wikipedia, and someone trying to change that would take some of your power. Everything said yesterday is taken back. Please remove all my comments immediately rather than directing me to the welcome page. I will not view the welcome page, so please cease sending suggestions to my IP address at Wikipedia.
By the way, is there someone I can talk to about this? Wikipedia management/higher up editor, etc.?
Thank you.

Thank you very much for your work on Alan Gendreau Bearian (talk) 19:11, 24 April 2013 (UTC) |
I guess I'm trying to figure out, "What gives?" I attempted to add a picture that I took of Magic Johnson yesterday to his article and you removed it and said it was "grainy" and you replaced it with one that was merely his head without a body, just his head. There is no way a reasonable person would have found the floating head picture to be superior to the grainy picture. However, I replaced the floating head picture with a second picture of Magic which is not "grainy" in any form or fashion. You just moved that picture from the left side of the page, the exact same spot you placed the floating head, and moved it to the right side of the page. That's fine but you added a cryptic message "FWIW, ExclusiveAgent, is uploading his own work in the article." I have no idea why that is important. People take pictures of people, objects, and places all of the time and place them in articles. So I repeat, what gives? What was your point with that comment in the Edit Summary?--ExclusiveAgent (talk) 20:59, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for discussing this. MOS:IMAGE suggests that a person's eyes should look toward the text, which is why I have been moving the images. As a sign of good faith, I left the picture though I thought he looked "funny"; no fault of the photographer, it's just the nature of snapshots and timing i.e. luck sometimes. I left it for others to decide, though disclosing that you were also the uploader so people can decide on their own if there is any conflict of interest in determining the "best" picture to place in the article. For an FA, I would rather have the "floating head" over a picture of him with a grin taken out of context. However, I wasn't going to edit war over it. Apparently, I erred on taking the shortcut of leaving a short edit summary over starting a discussion. Apologies, as no offense was intended. Regards.—Bagumba (talk) 21:16, 26 April 2013 (UTC)
MLB team season articles
Per your message on my talk page, if you ever want me to do what I did on the Minnesota Twins article, after games have been played and needing to "catch up" with basic summaries of season highlights, I can do that. I have been keeping up with some teams, such as the Kansas City Royals. I don't like just seeing or working on "charts" myself, so I don't mind expanding an article when I have time. Thanks! :) 99.129.112.89 (talk) 17:17, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Request for copyedit
Hi, I recently created an article Saradha Group financial scandal, the largest ponzi scam in India. One of the editors has tagged it for copyedit. As I have been substantially involved in the article, it would be difficult for me to 'see the mistakes', it would be great if you can copyedit the article. Thanks. Reply to your "unsolicited advice"
That's just it, I really haven't done anything wrong. They just test my patience and try to provoke me. If they don't get their way, they want me to pay. I am remaining distant and have ignored them, but since they "wikihound" me (including talking about getting me banned which I have documented for my records), they come back around to give their input which is usually wrong. It's all smoke screens. But thanks for the "advice" and best of luck on your article(s). I am staying away from the ones those listed on my talk page work on all together, which means you'll have to keep your baseball article current if you want. I've decided to resign from them except KC. That is not giving up or pouting, I just feel it best to ignore them since they are toxic and cause me to be counter-productive. I already knew he/they were wrong. That is what upset some of the editors I think, although they won't admit it, in addition to me doing such a great job on the baseball articles which made them jealous maybe. That and because I use an IP and won't create an account for their benefit perhaps. I don't know for sure, I'm speculating, but I think my contentions are accurate. Oh well... Life goes on, I've already forgot about them and "brushed 'em off"! :) 99.129.112.89 (talk) 17:57, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Oops, per your "tag" above, sorry I replied here. I didn't have anything more to contribute to the topic, so we can leave it at that. 99.129.112.89 (talk) 17:59, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Even if you are right and they are picking on you for being an IP, it's only encouraging them to increase their scrutiny by accusing them of such. We all want to be "right", but sometimes it's better to either WP:DISENGAGE or post to the appropriate Wikipedia:Noticeboards if you are convinced that there is a problem that you have exhausted all options, and get a final resolution to your concerns. As you wanted it "leave it at that", I will not notify you of this response, nor do I expect a response. All the best.—Bagumba (talk) 18:09, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
AGAIN, I was leaving him/them alone! They are the ones following me and disrupting me. Please don't make this about me, you should be telling them. Let's part ways now, bye. P.S. Per "disengage", I'm the one who told them to slow down or wanted them to back off. HIAB was way too aggressive. Not sure why I'm being "schooled". Poor reflection of those who are actually wrong. I won't return, no use replying. 99.129.112.89 (talk) 18:47, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

Dubious vs. Disputed?
Is that right?[3] I usually just tag things with {{fact}} when they are wholly unsourced. You might have a point though; my understanding of the tags, that "dubious" is just a low-key version of "disputed", would make them overlap in a lot of cases.... -- Kendrick7talk 00:19, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Maybe I had too much time on my hands :-) I take "fact" to mean its likely true but needs a source, "dubious" to mean its unlikely, and "disputed" as being partially true. At a high level, it all means more work is needed. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 04:27, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hmmm. Well, anyway, good job with mentioning this over at WP:LGBT; I am satisfied that there's some good discussion at least, and I'm sure it will all get sorted out. -- Kendrick7talk 01:47, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

NBA article flag icons
I noticed that you reinserted the flag icons at NBA, because I hadn't linked the discussion that I referred to in my edit summery. Yet you took part in that discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Basketball Association/Archive 19#Flags on All-Star Game articles and agreed with their removal. you also enforced the consensus at that time. My guess is that you forgot about the previous discussion. Hey Bagumba
I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).
So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.
What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.
The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

Hey Bagumba, I've gathered that you're a UCLA fan. I was wondering if you'd want to tackle any of the UCLA players who appear on national championship templates who don't have articles yet.
