Urgent

Can you tell me what are some good references to see if I have them available at this time, so this page does not get denied. Because I see on other pages that Youtube and Facebook are good ones. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hvccstudentofficial (talkcontribs) 07:51, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

@Hvccstudentofficial: First, please sign your messages (per my notice on the top of this page). Also, you don't need to make a new topic every time you reply.
YouTube and Facebook are both unreliable, self published sources. Please read the verifiability policy, this section, and while you're at it, the notability policy. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 07:56, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

I was able to add some information regarding the page hopefully it gets approved I'm hoping fingers crossed but I added some information when he helped start the business of Sneaker Pawn in NYC which is on the New York Post also there is a picture that was added of him being on the notary and a proclamation being of him in Albany state of NY hopefully that helps and get it approved. Does notary's work or an award from the state of ny or a proclamation I was able to adjust my work please tell me I did it right hopefully. I updated it again hopefully this helps it is from a trusted source dun and Bradstreet that shows every company such as Verizon, Apple, and Aaron Christopher's company click the link in the draft page to find out more Information before you approve it. Please look at each link it is a trusted source I know this one is for sure. Hvccstudentofficial (talk) 09:49, 15 January 2022 (UTC) Hvccstudentofficial

Please take a look, I know for sure Duns and Bradstreet is a trusted source because all business are on their.

@Hvccstudentofficial: I'll leave the review to someone else. It will probably be declined for lack of notability, though. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 10:04, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

I'm hoping it does not get declined please give a good word. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hvccstudentofficial (talkcontribs) 10:07, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

@Hvccstudentofficial: I'm afraid I can't. You added a google search and a supposedly reliable source. We generally need 3 of those for an article. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 10:16, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

Question from Aisha Waqas (17:01, 15 January 2022)

I know multiple business who are not registered online and they do not exist on Wikipedia as well, considering their efforts towards society they should be here. Is there any rule here for not adding their pages etc, I would like to know. --Aisha Waqas (talk) 17:01, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

@Aisha Waqas: First, Wikipedia is not a platform for advertising (if you were planning to do so, see this other page) Also, see the guideline on conflicts of interest, if you are related to the subject (e.g. you work for them). – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 23:46, 15 January 2022 (UTC)

@Timone13: It seems the formatting is broken. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 12:13, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

Thanks...

... for this edit, where you cleaned up a mess that I made misusing a template. Obviously one of the rare occasions when changing another editor's talk page post is the right thing to do. JBW (talk) 11:27, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

@JBW: What even happened there? – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 11:29, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

As you no doubt know, most user page warning templates are designed to be used like this:

{{Subst:uw-advert2|Such-and-such-a-page|an (optional) individual message... ~~~~}}

which results in this being actually posted on the talk page:

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Such-and-such-a-page. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. an (optional) individual message... JBW (talk) 12:18, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

but there's the alternative possibility of leaving the page name blank, like this:

{{Subst:uw-advert2||an (optional) individual message... ~~~~}}

with this result:

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. an (optional) individual message... JBW (talk) 12:18, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

I left out the page name, but accidentally just typed | instead of ||, like this:

{{Subst::uw-advert2|an (optional) individual message... ~~~~}}

The software interprets whatever comes after the first | as the page name, so in the example above it takes "+ an individual message about this particular page... JBW (talk) 12:18, 18 January 2022 (UTC)" as a page name, resulting in the following being the version actually posted to the talk page:
Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to [[:an (optional) individual message... JBW (talk) 12:18, 18 January 2022 (UTC)]]. While objective prose about beliefs, organisations, people, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you.
It's an easy mistake to make if you use the template without the page name but with the optional message, as I often do, but I have no excuse, because of course I should have previewed before saving, or failing that checked the page after I saved it. JBW (talk) 12:18, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

3 years

Huh? Th78blue (talk) 02:42, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

@Th78blue: It's one of the requirements for the service award – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 02:43, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
Oh, not edit count? I also thought that those were essentially voluntary? If I am in the wrong, I'll gladly move it back down. Th78blue (talk) 02:45, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
@Th78blue: I really don't care that much, but the page does say it has a 3 year requirement. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 02:46, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
I see, well I will move it back down then. My apologies. Th78blue (talk) 02:46, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
Done. Oh and by the way, I started a conversation around this on the service awards talk page. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I think the time portion should be an "and/or", not both. Now that I know of them. If that is unacceptable to people, then I'd like to suggest we keep "years of service" "requirements", but just halve them as they stand today. I think that would be good to entice new editors. I see you yourself have had your account since May of 2021, so that isn't too super old as well, and we would both "benefit" from this then as far as the "service awards" are concerned. Not that these are too super important anyway haha. Thanks again for the catch with the fine tooth comb! Wikipedia talk:Service awards#Edit count AND/OR years of service Th78blue (talk) 03:07, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
@Th78blue: Either way it's just some template. Also, why do you make so many edits instead of just one? – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 03:10, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
I edit this way because it calms my OCD and allows for me to get each and every edit exactly right. Sometimes, depending on my mood etc., I do bulk pieces in a single edit, but in those cases, I find I still miss stuff and have to go back... So I like my method if that is okay? Please feel free to comment on the page that I linked as well. Th78blue (talk) 03:14, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
@Th78blue: Have you checked out AWB for those bulk edits? – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 03:15, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
You did mention it once I believe after I sent you a cookie haha. I will need to dive back in and give it some real thought and attention.. Th78blue (talk) 03:19, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
@Th78blue: I did mention those bulk edits because it seems like a potential case of editcountitis. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 03:23, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
, thank you for your concern, but I think it is safe to say it is a much more traditional case of perfectionism to the Nth degree (OCD). I would rather not have to change that if possible. I do not particularly care about the actual edit count, as evidenced by my already moving the service award down per your initially raising the matter. Th78blue (talk) 03:26, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

@Mw1357: All I will say is that the subject must be covered by multiple reliable sources independent of the subject (read here), and since you have a conflict of interest, you should take care to write in a neutral point of view. Even if it is snowing at a TfD section, please let it run for the full week. There is zero harm in letting a discussion go to its full term. Primefac (talk) 11:44, 26 January 2022 (UTC)

No. Also, please make sure if you are going to be closing discussions as "delete" that there are zero transclusions before you G6 it. Templates with transclusions should be listed the Holding Cell in the appropriate location (in this case, "To orphan"). Primefac (talk) 11:46, 26 January 2022 (UTC)

AfD relist

Hi, this AfD has already been relisted twice. It's better to leave it to be closed by somebody than extend once more. hemantha (brief) 11:55, 26 January 2022 (UTC)

@Hemantha: I closed it, but reverted when I saw that there was probably still a discussion going on. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 12:22, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
Yeah (and no thanks for that 'keep' close, [just kidding]) but I was going by WP:RELIST, which says two relists in general are enough. Compared to that huge, contentious AfD which closed without a single relist recently, this one had run long enough for some admin to close today. hemantha (brief) 12:44, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
Looking more at the actual practice, it seems quite common to relist thrice. Sorry for bringing this up. hemantha (brief) 12:57, 26 January 2022 (UTC)
It appeared common practice from the 19 entries at Category:AfD debates relisted 3 or more times, but I see now that 16 of those relists are from you (other 3 being admins). While WP:RELIST is clear, I request you to clarify this with some experienced editors/admins if you wish to relist AfDs for longer than 21 days again . hemantha (brief) 08:45, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
@Hemantha: 16? I didn't even realise I relisted that many AFDs. I hadn't known about that 3 relist guideline beforehand. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 08:48, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. @Timtrent: When I was accepting it, I saw a few press releases, the company website, and 3 sources I wasn't too sure about. After being unsure for a while, I just accepted it. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 09:31, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the answer. Might I counsel against accepting drafts that are referenced by press releases? The fact that they are present tends to suggest that there is insufficient referencing that is not Churnalism. Our opinions may differ. Even so, experience has shown me that articles sourced in this manner almost inevitably fail subsequent deletion discussions. I see more PR material here than you do. i want to create my page with my information on wikipedia with my image. please guide --Artist Kumar Nishant (talk) 01:27, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

@Artist Kumar Nishant: Review Wikipedia:Your first article for guidance on writing articles. Note that it is very strongly discouraged to write about yourself, as it is a conflict of interest. Article subjects must also be notable. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 02:28, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi - I would respectfully encourage you to self-revert your closure at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ontario First Party. There was overwhelming consensus for redirect/merge. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 08:18, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

@Goldsztajn Before I do so, here's my reasoning:
!vote 1: Doesn't say anything about it being not notable.
!vote 2: Did they try to find sources?
!vote 3: no reasoning
!vote 4: Still nothing about notability
!vote 5: Why?
!vote 6: How so?
!vote 7: Still, why?
!vote 8: I guess that works.
Respond again and I'll revert it. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 08:28, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
Or DRV. Even though I don't want to go there, at least I feel it's a bit more complex than "6 people said redirect" – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 08:30, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
@AssumeGoodWraith: if you're unconvinced/unswayed by the arguments then it would be better to contribute yourself to improve the discussion or relist with a comment to the effect that current discussion lacks X or Y. But closing requires a summary of the arguments; it's not unreasonable to infer most of the comments are related to a lack of notability of a party that existed in name only due to the actions of a single person. We're not meant to be lawyers here, we interpret the spirit, not the letter. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 08:46, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello, AssumeGoodWraith,

For some reason, you moved this article under discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Meshroom to Draft space before the discussion had closed. Draftifying the article was one option proposed but the discussion was still on-going. Please either move the article back to main space or close the discussion. But don't do things half-way like this. It's disruptive. Liz Read! Talk! 06:44, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

@Liz  Reverted. (I had obviously seen the discussion, but) I hadn't draftified it as part of the discussion, and this comes to mind. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 06:58, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

Pursuant to WP:DPR#NAC, I have amended the closure of this AFD from "no consensus" to "delete".

I have done this because I believe your closure didn't correctly reflect policy, custom, and practice, which recommends that little to no weight be given to AFD contributions from new and unregistered users. Additionally, one of the contributors supporting keeping the article had a conflict of interest.

Please understand that this is nothing personal and merely aims to improve the quality of closures overall. Please leave a message or {{talkback}} on my talk page if you would like to continue the conversation, as I won't be watching here. Stifle (talk) 10:45, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

@Stifle Is this something like a soft delete? If you completely ignore the keep !votes, it is 1 delete !vote. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 10:52, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
We have the nominator plus another, which after 3 relists I think is enough for a full delete. Stifle (talk) 16:56, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

Brother can i remove my submission draft if Don't want to submitted ? Al-Sadr'chinbina (talk) 17:22, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

@Al-Sadr'chinbina: You can request deletion by adding {{Db-self}} to the top of the draft. ––FormalDude talk 17:35, 21 March 2022 (UTC) (talk page watcher)

Table of contents

Hello, AssumeGoodWraith,

It's a minor point but could you change the code so that your table of contents for this page is readable? It is so tiny, I can't read it which makes it useless for navigating and finding a discussion. There is probably a <small> tag that wasn't closed. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 02:59, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

@Liz Removed 2 small tags. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 04:23, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello. I've begun a deletion sorting page for articles about the Olympics which are nominated at AfD. Hope you find it useful. No Great Shaker (talk) 13:29, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

Question from SriSriChinmaya (02:44, 30 March 2022)

Hi, @AssumeGoodWraith I have written this draft https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Achal_Mishra. Can you review it?

Thanks --SriSriChinmaya (talk) 02:44, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

@SriSriChinmaya: May do that a bit later. Feel free to improve the draft while waiting. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 13:04, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

Are you planning to continue work on {{Userstats}}? There is a group of us trying to tidy up untranscluded template pages, and this one popped up on a recent report. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:16, 29 March 2022 (UTC)

Question from TheFuniMan (15:34, 1 April 2022)

How do I actually create my own article? --TheFuniMan (talk) 15:34, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

@TheFuniMan: If you were looking to make a proper article, Wikipedia:Your first article is a good start. If an article's subject is not covered by multiple reliable and secondary sources, an article on it cannot made, and all information on Wikipedia should be verifiable. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 12:40, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

Draft:Tapovan, Sri Chinmoy Peace Park

I have restored NPOV and tidied it up, please could you un-reject it? A 200-acre wilderness park is not something minor. Arrecife (talk) 19:51, 10 April 2022 (UTC)

@NorthWu: Add # ~~~~ to the end of the active participants section, I presume.

How do I publish an article --Oyama Ludo (talk) 04:38, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

@Oyama Ludo: See Help:Your first article. – AssumeGoodWraith (talk | contribs) 05:06, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

Please familiarize yourself with the above essay and refrain in general from relisting for a third time as that generally shouldn't be done by non-admins but especially not without an adequate explanation per WP:RELIST. It would be far more helpful for you to participate in said discussions rather than doing NAC/admin type actions as there are plenty of closers/more experienced relisters and not nearly enough participants. New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello AssumeGoodWraith,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 804 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 852 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Page mover granted

Hello, AssumeGoodWraith. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! Arbitrarily0 (talk) 06:24, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks again

I see you may be on a break. I hope all is well. Some moons ago you ranked this article a B.

I had never had a B article before and at first I wondered if you made an error. It massively boosted my confidence. I proposed it for good article status and expected a mammoth workload to get it there. I was wrong. It sailed through. I only did that thanks to your encouragement. It's a good day for me. Thanks. New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello AssumeGoodWraith,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 12583 articles, as of 00:00, 16 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.
