New Page Review newsletter September-October 2019
Hello Arthistorian1977,
- Backlog
Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.
- Coordinator
A proposal is taking place here to confirm a nominated user as Coordinator of NPR.
- This month's refresher course
Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.
- Deletion tags
Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.
- Paid editing
Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.
- Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion
- Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
- Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.
- Not English
- A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.
- Tools
Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.
Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.
Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.
DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.

Your draft article, Draft:Leonard Fink
Hello, Arthistorian1977. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Leonard Fink".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply and remove the {{db-afc}}
, {{db-draft}}
, or {{db-g13}}
code.
If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.
Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! CASSIOPEIA(talk) 08:57, 19 September 2019 (UTC)

Hey I recieved your message! I did contest the deletion and explained there. I would like more time to add more notable references to the page. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abbycarroll (talk • contribs) 07:16, 23 September 2019 (UTC)
Landon Romano
Hi! I created Landon Romano, and would love your assistance/advice on how best to cite and make this page valid. He just filmed a movie with Machine Gun Kelly and starred on the upcoming series "Petty Court", but have not yet been released. He achieved viral fame and trying to best show that in his entry... he is a similar figure to Jenna Marbles. Thanks so much!!
Hello, I read where you marked it because you think the Variety story is not about him he is mentioned in it. He is the Star of the show, he is not only mentioned in the title in Variety yesterday as "Instagram Celebrity" but he is in the story as the Host of the show. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ginamrodriguez (talk • contribs) 18:32, 26 April 2019 (UTC)
Gavin Kostick
Hi, I created Gavin Kostick, on which User:Reddogsix has put a deletion notice. I see that you have reviewed the page but left the notice? Reddogsix seems to have a tendency to rapidly propose articles for deletion, many of which are subsequently retained and I believe that should be the case here.
- Non-notable individual lacking in-depth, non-trivial support. References are single entries and some do not even mention subject.
A careful look at the references does not, I believe, support this assertion. I am very familiar with referencing in Wikipedia and ignored the hundreds of blogs, etc. that mention the subject in favour of national newspapers like the Irish Times, books and websites of reputable national organisations. The only references that do not mention the subject (other than the Gerry Kostick one) are references to the awards won by subject's plays, which are crucial for notability. I would contend that anyone who wins either the Irish Times best new play award, or the Steward Parker Trust Award or the Spirit of the Fringe award is notable. Let alone all three. So could I ask you to look again at the page and consider removing the notice? Thanks JimHolden (talk) 11:26, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
- Hi JimHolden, thank you for noting this to me. I've declined BLP, but opened a discussion to see what other members of community have to say. Cheers, Arthistorian1977 (talk) 11:44, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
Hello! Many thanks for your attention on the page. However, I believe you placed the tag before I could add more on the page. I am in fact further working on it. Would it be possible to remove the tag meanwhile ? I have also added the reasons on the talk page.

I am creating a category, not an article. Atelier 17 was a famed art school in NYC and Paris where everyone from Picasso to Miro studied. Does a category have to have content in the article space? Thanks! Skistud (talk) 15:32, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Green Lotus
Hello Arthistorian1977 this page should not be speedily deleted because Green Lotus is a real estate brand and this information should be there in encyclopedia. Moreover I am still collecting sources for this article so I need some time to fully curate the article if it gets deleted at once I won't be able to add citations in it. Requesting you to please don't delete it speedily.
Requesting to please help me to develop the article as this is my first article and I am still learning. Your feedback is also welcome Regards (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 05:52, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
Deletion, Sir Eyre Massey Shaw
Not a problem as someone else has contacted me to say that they had merged and just deleted the 'Sir' bit.[1]. Speedy deletion nomination of Shishir Kumar
This page should not be speedily deleted because Shishir Kumar is India's renowed Paranormal Investigator, Journalist, Politician and Founder-President of Team Pentacle,an Indian Paranormal Research Organisation and I feel this page should be on Wikipedia and I'm yet to work on this page. He did his paranormal certification from IMHS, USA and founded the first Indian online school on paranormal research and investigation on 2012 – Institute of Paranormal Research and UFOlogy joined. In 2013 he formed Team Pentacle under the banner of Pentacle Paranormal Research Society. Prior he has been working with his team on various projects including many horror shows like Sony TV "Bhoot Aya". Recently he's working on the biopic on Late Gaurav Tiwari, famous paranormal investigator from India who earned international reputation for himself and his team after establishing India's first scientific paranormal research association, Indian Paranormal Society. Kumar, served as Director of Indian Paranormal Society and has worked closely with Gaurav Tiwari before establishing Team Pentacle. Currently he's authoring two books, one being a handbook for the upcoming paranormal investigators and other being his extensive study of the left hand tantra and Aghora practice in India. He has investigated almost all the claimed top haunted locations in India that included Bhangarh Fort, Kuldhara Village, Mukesh Mills, Goa Cottages, Jamali Kamali to name a few.

Speedy deletion nomination of Treegle
Hello Arthistorian1977, I personally feel that dictionaries and reference materials are extremely important and valuable. I believe all dictionaries should have wikipedia articles because of their significance and impact on society. Treegle is an online dictionary/reference material that is used and it is different from other online dictionaries because of its use of the concept of a definition tree. What more are you looking for? If you still feel that there is a lack of significance, I really hope to get some feedback on what exactly you would further need to justify its significance or the significance to other dictionaries and reference materials. Thank you very much! Sharewithme (talk) 06:34, 18 June 2017 (UTC)
Sadly, the page was deleted. I hope you have a nice weekend and I still welcome your feedback. :)

Speedy deletion nomination of Omar Albertto
Hello Arthistorian1977, thank you for writing me the note. I was really just getting started on the Omar Albertto page and had no intention of leaving it as incomplete as it is at the moment. Mr. Albertto was instrumental in introducing the 'real people' style of model in the late 80's that absolutely revolutionized the industry, the original GAP ads that Herb Ritts shot most of were largely influenced by his contribution to the modeling world. They even used him in one of the ads as a cameo to illustrate this. He was also Tyrese's first agent who introduced him to Hollywood, now he is starring in one of the biggest box-office movie franchises in history, The Fast And The Furious. Please reconsider the deletion. Much appreciation and have a good day. Maxadamia (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 15:24, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for editing Johny ML page and need help in Prof. R. Nandakumar page
Thank you for editing Johny ML page. Appreciate your efforts. I have a challenge with this page https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:R_Nandakumar R. Nandakumar has received prestigious awards from the Government of India and Kerala and his works have been extensively referred by National and International authors and writers. However, he has very limited online reference. I came across his information from a research library and did quite a lot of ground work to bring out this extensive page - but it is being rejected again and again. Need help in this, actually do not know how to proceed from here. Any support or guidance will be appreciated. Thank you. Tirutirutiru (talk) 10:56, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

Im sorry but I don't understand how it is a a duplicate it's not even close to being a duplicate it's barely a duplicate. Im just adding the stuff that the website and the State of Jefferson says will happen if they are allowed to become the 51st state. New Page Review newsletter November 2019
Hello Arthistorian1977,
This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.
- Getting the queue to 0
There are now 812 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.
Want to join? Consider adding the NPP Pledge userbox.
Our next newsletter will announce the winners of some really cool awards.
- Coordinator
Admin Barkeep49 has been officially invested as NPP/NPR coordinator by a unanimous consensus of the community. This is a complex role and he will need all the help he can get from other experienced reviewers.
- This month's refresher course
Paid editing is still causing headaches for even our most experienced reviewers: This official Wikipedia article will be an eye-opener to anyone who joined Wikipedia or obtained the NPR right since 2015. See The Hallmarks to know exactly what to look for and take time to examine all the sources.
- Tools
- It is now possible to select new pages by date range. This was requested by reviewers who want to patrol from the middle of the list.
- It is now also possible for accredited reviewers to put any article back into the New Pages Feed for re-review. The link is under 'Tools' in the side bar.
- Reviewer Feedback
Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.
- Second set of eyes
- Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.
- Do be sure to have our talk page on your watchlist. There are often items that require reviewers' special attention, such as to watch out for pages by known socks or disruptive editors, technical issues and new developments, and of course to provide advice for other reviewers.
- Arbitration Committee
The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.
- Community Wish list
There is to be no wish list for WMF encyclopedias this year. We thank Community Tech for their hard work addressing our long list of requirements which somewhat overwhelmed them last year, and we look forward to a successful completion.

Help with declined Draft:Anton Smit (sculptor)
Hi User:Arthistorian1977, Given your interest in art, could you please take a look at "declined" Draft:Anton Smit (sculptor) ?. The article is rejected by User:Theroadislong for not meeting WP:NARTIST. In my view, the artist´s work meets the requisite of being a "significant monument/part of a significant exhibition" as required thereby. Would you be willing to give us an opinion? Thanks. Neuralia (talk) 10:06, 15 November 2019 (UTC) Hi Neuralia, I would reject the article by myself as well. The issue is not meeting criteria for WP:NARTIST is that any criteria are required to be supported by independent reliable sources and most of the sources I see in the article are either from artist website or blogs. You have to provide better references for an article to be accepted. Cheers. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 14:50, 16 November 2019 (UTC)

New Page Review newsletter December 2019
- Reviewer of the Year
This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.
Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.
Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.
Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

- Redirect autopatrol
A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.
- Source Guide Discussion
Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.
- This month's refresher course
While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020
Hello Arthistorian1977,
- Source Guide Discussion
The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.
- Redirects
New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.
- Discussions and Resources
- There is an ongoing discussion around changing notifications for new editors who attempt to write articles.
- A recent discussion of whether Michelin starred restraunts are notable was archived without closure.
- A resource page with links pertinent for reviewers was created this month.
- A proposal to increase the scope of G5 was withdrawn.
- Refresher
Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Redirects
Thank you for reviewing my redirects. I appreciate the efforts of new page patrollers like you. However, I was recently put on the redirect whitelist, so patrolling my redirects happens automatically by bot. This happens eventually, but not usually instantly, which is probrably why you're able to review some of my redirects. Hi, I noticed that you marked Diana Kent as reviewed, but it is a BLP with no sources. I have tagged it for lack of sources, but you should be checking references when you review new articles. Schazjmd (talk) 15:35, 22 March 2020 (UTC)
Question About Notable Academics
Hey so how heavily sited do Virtual Museum's have to be? I have seen several real world museums that have one or two sources but it is hard to deny brick and mortar, giant museum buildings so I was wondering how credible the Virtual Museum needed to be online? Deletion of Larry Wheels
Hi, you deleted the Larry Wheels page a while back, but I am wondering if you'd like to discuss WP:SIGCOV or other conflicts. He recently set a 2,370 pound powerlifting world record.[1] I plan to work on a few articles for the duration of the Covid-19 pandemic to keep me busy. Pilot333 (talk) 13:57, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
Neutrality template for Alex Johnson
Hi Arthistorian1977, I'm a little puzzled by the neutrality in dispute template you've just popped on my new article on Alex Johnson. This is directly related to the VisibleWikiWomen challenge we run every year, as a Wikimedia user group, in partnership with a number of Wikimedians and organisations across the world. Given Wikipedia's unfortunate gender gap in content and contributors, we bring the images of notable women on to Commons, and write their articles if they don't already exist. We've done this for many years, as have many partners across the movement.
I'm also an experienced editor, and would never write an article without following Wikipedia norms. Could you let me know why you've popped that template on? Happy to improve the article if there's something that didn't feel appropriate, but I'd love some more rationale, please. Many thanks! Anasuyas (talk) 10:54, 26 March 2020 (UTC) Hi Anasuyas, the language of the article does not adhere to neutral POV. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 11:50, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, Arthistorian1977, but can you tell me specifically what doesn't adhere to NPOV? Without a substantive argument, I'm afraid it feels like it's you who has the POV, not me. Please give me a more detailed reason. Thanks Anasuyas (talk) 15:55, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
Kung flu history
Hello Arthistorian. I was monitoring the older pages in the WP:AFC/R queue and created the Kung flu redirect to Kung-Flu. After checking back on the creations that I had made, I noticed that my redirect that I had just created had already received 1.3k pageviews. I did not notice that the page had been previously deleted, but I could not find an AfD or RfD anywhere logging it. I just assumed that the presence of a Kung-Flu disambiguation page implied that it was judged to be notable, but perhaps it was previously deleted under the name "Kung flu"? Should I not have created the redirects? Hopefully you are able to put my curiosity at ease, as I don't want the creation of those pages to overrule a previous decision made on the existence of the redirects and disambiguation page. gimme5
Gimme 5 is one of the few innovative Italian apps in the savings sector, also for small amounts of money. For this reason, it is something new on a technological level. This is evidenced by the fact that it was awarded "best app" at the FintechAge Awards 2019, a recognition given to the most dynamic operators in the sector (https://www.bluerating.com/ banking-and-networks / 593207 / ITForum-2019-all-the-winning-the-Fintech-age-awards). More than 250,000 people have used it, for a total saving of over 50 million euros. The app also has international relevance, as evidenced by the following references: https://craft.co/acomea-sgr-spa and https://www.finextra.com/pressarticle/77685/italian-asset-manager- AcomeA-successfully-tests-direct-to-consumer-distribution-using-blockchain Can I do something to improve the page? For example, can I add these sources in English, or insert internal links to wikipedia from other pages that can refer to this page? --D.mircoselliro (talk) 11:34, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

I see you nominated Palak Periwal for speedy deletion just one minute after it was created, when it didn't even contain enough information to tell if it was a valid subject for WP:A7. Please give editors time to actually add enough content to judge an article by. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:00, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
New Page Reviewer newsletter June 2020
Hello Arthistorian1977,
- Your help can make a difference
NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.
- Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate
In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.
- Discussions and Resources
- A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
- Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
- A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.
- Also ending with no change was a proposal to change how we handle certain kinds of vector images.

Regarding Deletion of Page.
Why it is important for you to delete that page? Do you have some biases or investment in some other competition startup? Isn't Wikipedia is a fair platform which provides information regarding everything. And since Alphonso Inc. is part of that universe this page should not be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lifeisshubh (talk • contribs) 23:50, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Resolving notability of Anibal Velasquez article?
Hello, Recently you posted a template on an article I created today on Anibal Velasquez, saying that the article may not meet Wikipedia's notability guideline for biographies. Velasquez was/is a fairly prolific and influential musician in Colombia; a television series was recently made on him by Telecaribe, which was reported on by numerous publications including El Espectador (a national newspaper in Colombia). His work has also been reviewed by the New York Times. Both of these sources are now cited in the article, along with other news/media sources. Is this enough to establish Velasquez's notability and possibly remove the template? Thanks for any input you can give.

New Page Patrol December Newsletter
Hello Arthistorian1977,
- Year in review
It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

---|---|---|---|

9 | Hughesdarren (talk) | 4,520 | Patrol Page Curation |
10 | Utopes (talk) | 3,958 | Patrol Page Curation |
- Reviewer of the Year
John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.
- NPP Technical Achievement Award
As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.
