Hello Aoba47,

Could you do a review of the article I linked above? It's a B class article with High Importance in the WikiProject A&M. I fixed a lot of broken references, and the over-linking. I'd like to have your opinion. I think it could be an FA. Thanks. -- 1989 (talk) 17:08, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • @1989: Thank you for the message. I will look through the article over the next week if that is okay with you. Aoba47 (talk) 17:32, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    Sure, that's fine. -- 1989 (talk) 18:26, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I was nominating this for Good Topic. It's not live yet, I just want to know whether it's acceptable before I do that. -- 1989 (talk) 19:43, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Everything looks ready to go. Great job to those who worked on the articles and list! Aoba47 (talk) 21:48, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well, unfortunately, it failed because they don't allow "cherry picking". It would of likely continued, but the two articles that the reviewer described were not GAs yet. I went on and nominated them. If you want to take a look at them to see if I made the right choice, you can. -- 1989 (talk) 16:48, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@1989: Oh, that makes sense actually. I have never read or watched this manga/anime and I didn't check to see if all of the characters were included so I apologize for this oversight. I am actually working on providing comments for your peer review right now. I will take a look at the character articles later today. I always wanted to try and do something with manga/anime articles so this is definitely a good way for me to start. Good luck with this and great work so far! However, I do believe that Jiraiya (Naruto) needs more work, specifically that it needs a section discussing the development/background behind the character. I would probably fail it on those grounds so I would suggest improving that. Aoba47 (talk) 16:51, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
     Doing... -- 1989 (talk) 17:00, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I can't really find anything based on his development, however, I see a lot of references based on "Uzumaki: the Art of Naruto" on here. I'm trying to look up the book now, but not getting any luck. -- 1989 (talk) 17:45, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@1989: If that is the case, I would recommend waiting to nominate this for GAN. The article will definitely need a "Creation and conception" or "Background" section of some kind in order to reach the level of a good article. This was pointed out in the last GAN and still applies here. Without a section like this, then the article has too much in-universe information without an adequate amount of out-of-universe information to balance it out. This means that the article does not comply with Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Writing about fiction. The "Appearances" section seems fine, though, I would double-check to make sure you covered all of his appearances in other media in the "In other media subsection". The "Reception" section seems fine, but could use some revision to avoid the "Critic A says X" sentence construction. You can leave this up for GAN if you wish as this is just my opinion, but I really do not believe that it is ready. I will take up your other article for GAN though. Aoba47 (talk) 18:25, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If the article Hinata passes for GA, I might be bold, and change the Jirayia article to a redirect. -- 1989 (talk) 21:04, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It may be best to make this a redirect if a significant amount of information on the character's creation and development cannot be located. Aoba47 (talk) 14:05, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The same thing for the Hinata article as well? -- 1989 (talk) 14:15, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Even though the Hinata article still needs work, it still shows potential as it seems to indicate that further information about the character's creation and development is out there so I would say no to that. You could always put it up for AfD to get responses from more experienced users, as I am not familiar with the manga/anime at all, but it looks like it has enough information to warrant a separate article in my opinion at least. It just needs work. Aoba47 (talk) 14:18, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't notice your ping. Nevermind. By the way, to your last question, not really, because the significant editors haven't touched the article since 6 to 10 years ago. [1]-- 1989 (talk) 22:27, 22 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am sorry, but I will not have enough time to do a review for that article, and I would prefer it a user more experienced with that subject matter (anime/manga) handle that instead. Thank you for your consideration though. Aoba47 (talk) 23:44, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @1989: I am not super familiar with this type of list, but here are some of my comments to improve it. The lead needs to be expanded to fully cover all of the content from the list. I would encourage you not to use an image in the lead (as seen in List of Dragon Quest media) as I do not believe an image would be necessary in this case. I would encourage you to go throughout the entire list to make sure that everything is cited and that all of the citations are in the proper format and that are still active (any dead links will need to either be found through a website archive or replaced with an active link; I always strongly encouraging archiving references to avoid link decay and all of your hard work going to waste). For instance, I see a few bare links (references 32 through 37 for instance. in the references, which need to be properly formatted. I would format all of the information in the list in tables (as done in List of Dragon Quest media) to make easier for the reader to go through the information (it also makes it easier for you to make sure everything is sourced and properly formatted). Remember that everything needs citations; for instance, the release dates need citations for the Japanese, American, and PAL region releases, and I notice that a few listings do not have a citation for these bits of information. On a more nitpicky note, I would replace the "Fiction" section title with "Novels" or "Books" instead as manga and anime are both examples of fiction so that does not make any sense in this context. I hope you find this to be helpful, and I apologize that I cannot be further help as I am unfamiliar with this type of list. Aoba47 (talk) 14:46, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @1989: Great work with this! I would still encourage you to add references to the release dates (you can use a vendor site such as Amazon.com something to support that sort of information so it should not be too difficult to pin down). I would also encourage you to put everything into the format of a table as it is confusing as why certain things (such as Rock Lee's Springtime of Youth Full-Power Ninja Chronicles and Naruto: Color Edition) are presented as subsections and other parts are presented with tables. I would also imagine that the novelizations need summaries (and I am still not a fan of the naming of a section as "Fiction"). There are still some bare links the works cited too. Such as reference 78. Overall, the structure looks good, but my primary concern is with the inconsistency of what is in a table and what is not in a table and I would encourage you to present everything in a table for consistency. Aoba47 (talk) 15:18, 1 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @1989: That is unfortunately the case for a lot of people, but that should be no issue during the GAN process or even the FAC process (if you choose to work to that level). I am not that familiar with working on articles on living people. I have tried it once in the past and it didn't end up going so well, but I will provide some pointers here: I would expand the lead to better reflect all of the contents (I would suggest doing this last once you have all of the article figured out to avoid having to repeatedly change the lead to fit the rest of the article). Instead of images of the person, you can include images of relevant places (such as her hometown or something along those lines). I think it would okay if you included non-free images of an example of her work (as long as you include a separate non-free rationale box in the image's page about it) as this FA on an artist Makinti Napanangka includes a non-free image to illustrate the subject's art and style. I would also move down the subsections listing her work from the "Works" section to a separate "List of works" section near the bottom of the article (as done in this example). I would also rethinking the title of the "Works" section. I would change it something like "Career" or something along those lines. The final sentence of the "Personal life" needs a citation and I would try to expand this section if possible, and there are other instances where things need citation. Overall, it looks like it is shaping up, but I would encourage you to work on the structure and citation and then focus on the actual prose before putting it up for GAN. I hope you found this helpful in some way. Aoba47 (talk) 18:53, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @1989: I would say that they are helpful for breaking up a rather long section of text. You can combine some of the subsections together (such as the "Mythology" and the "Confucianism" subsections together as they are only one paragraph for both). It is up to your personal preference though. If you do remove the subsection, make sure that there are transitions between each different topic. Hope this helps. Aoba47 (talk) 15:11, 14 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @1989: Almost everything seems to be in order. One main thing I would improve is that I think the 406 million copies worldwide sales figure should be present in the body of the article and not just in the lead. The "Events" section could use some expansion and work to make it a more cohesive narrative as opposed to a rather brief listing of items. The "Manga" subsection in the "Awards and accolades" subsection could use some work as single-sentence paragraphs are not a good idea as it makes the section choppy. These are the first things I have noticed from an extremely quick overview of the article so this is not an exhaustive list. Aoba47 (talk) 13:29, 22 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Finally, the Naruto Uzumaki article has been promoted, and I opened this one right away. When you get the chance, could you comment on it? -- 1989 13:00, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

March 2017 WikiCup newsletter

[edit]

And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. It would have been 5 points, but when a late entrant was permitted to join the contest in February, a promise was made that his inclusion would not result in the exclusion of any other competitor. To achieve this, the six entrants that had the lowest positive score of 4 points have been added to the 64 people who otherwise would have qualified. As a result, some of the groups have nine contestants rather than eight. Our top four scorers in round 1 were:

  • Scotland Cas Liber, last year's winner, led the field with two featured articles on birds and a total score of 674.
  • European Union Iry-Hor, a WikiCup newcomer, came next with a featured article, a good article and a tally of 282 bonus points for a score of 517. All these points came from the article Nyuserre Ini, an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh,
  • Japan 1989, another WikiCup newcomer, was in joint third place at 240. 1989 has claimed points for two featured lists and one good article relating to anime and comedy series, all of which were awarded bonus points.
  • South Australia Peacemaker67 shared third place with five good articles and thirteen good article reviews, mostly on naval vessels. He is also new to the competition.

The largest number of DYKs have been submitted by Vivvt and The C of E, who each claimed for seven, and MBlaze Lightning achieved eight articles at ITN. Carbrera and Peacemaker67 each claimed for five GAs and Krishna Chaitanya Velaga was well out in front for GARs, having reviewed 32. No featured pictures, featured topics or good topics yet, but we have achieved three featured articles and a splendid total of fifty good articles.

So, on to the second round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article candidate, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. [edit]

BTW thanks for your feedback here. Didn't mean to ignore your request for comment on the Sharon Stone FLC. Honestly I've never participated in FLC (from either end) in the past and just didn't feel confident giving advice in that format. Perhaps in the future. Looks like there's no shortage of support for it, though. :) — Rhododendrites talk \\ 05:19, 5 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Help with reviews

Yo Aoba, I was wondering if you could look into my nominations of Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei for FL-status or Final Destination 3 for GA-status. Whichever you prefer. If you don't have time to do a full review that's alright, just maybe a few pointers of what I can fix. PanagiotisZois (talk) 13:40, 5 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Stronger (Kelly Clarkson album)

OK, first of all, hi. Second, I nominated the article quite a while back, and right now, I'm extremely busy (with my studies), I would be very grateful if you could extend the period for another four days (i.e. Friday, when I'm no longer super pressed for time), or just re-evaluate it at a later date. I'm extremely sorry for my impoliteness in ignoring your messages, so I understand my inactivity might been really frustrating for you, but the timing was just off. I love your name, btw ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). Starting GA reviews

[edit]

Aoba47, I noticed that you've been editing article talk pages when you start a review to add the "onreview" status and transclude the review page, as you did here.

You don't need to do this. In fact, when you do it yourself, you short-circuit the bot that would normally do so, which prevents it from posting a notice to the nominator's page that you've started the review. Next time you start a review, just open the review page as you normally do, and let the bot find it and do the talk page update and the notification. It runs every 20 minutes or so; you won't have to wait long for it to do its job. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:05, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello:

The copy edit that you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article List of Eve episodes has been completed.

Not having seen the series, I had trouble figuring out for myself what had been written about Beverly's pregnancy in the introduction to season three. I went with what appeared in the episode summary which did make sense to me. You'll want to check this to make sure I haven't made a mistake.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

I have actually never seen the show either and cobbled together the introduction from the little bits and pieces that I could find about the series. Be Still My Soul

[edit]

Hey, I hope you're doing well. I am not sure if you actually follow the series, but, this was a pretty great installment. The entire cast at the top of the game ((Kelly McCreary and LaTanya Richardson were the highlights). Also, particularly impressive was Ellen Pompeo in her directorial debut. If you get a chance you must check it out. NumerounovedantTalk 11:06, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I can understand what you're saying, I think for me its just the fact that I stuck around through the lows of the show (and yes there were some very low lows), and now that the show has managed to breathe a new life into the characters (Meredith Grey had the most amazing evolution out of the batch, Kudos to Pompeo), I just can't seem to have enough. NumerounovedantTalk 20:16, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I am glad you enjoy it. I completely abandoned the show a couple years ago. I saw an episode earlier this season to see what it was like, and I strongly disliked it so I don't see myself watching it in the future tbh. Aoba47 (talk) 20:34, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats again on the pass :). Since the episode's 20th anniversary is next month, feel free to take to DYK so it makes the front page on that day, and you can specifically request a day in advance for it to be featured. Snuggums (talk / edits) 18:12, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you again for your help with the review! That is a great idea, and I will definitely take it to DYK. I didn't realize it was the episode's 20th anniversary next month; it makes feel super old now lol. Aoba47 (talk) 18:17, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Guess what

[edit]

Hey, I made some changes to Vincent's article, but there are still some more concerns. I think it'll be better if you take a look first. And guess what? I was so intrigued by reading so much about the show that I ended up watching it. And what better episode to start with other than the series finale. NumerounovedantTalk 12:24, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Numerounovedant: Thank you for your help; I greatly appreciate your edits and feedback. I assumed that there would be a lot of issues with the Vincent article in particular. I think it is a decent GA article, but it still far away from meeting the standard for an FA. I primarily just wanted to revise it and make it stronger. I will definitely take a more thorough look through it again when I have the time to do so. It is a completely ridiculous and campy show, and I really enjoyed how it was a complete parody of the soap opera genre in the beginning. I know at one time someone uploaded every episode to YouTube, but they were removed due to copyright violations. I stopped watching about half-way through the show as the central focus turned to a group of characters that I was not terribly fond of, but I think the series finale did a very job with the amount of time given to them and the amount of material that they had to wrap up. Thank you again and sorry for the long response back lol. Aoba47 (talk) 13:56, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it was a treat, I too loved the bizarre humor in the episode. Anyways, I have made some very basic changes in the article and will be happy to help as and when you decide to work on it further. Good luck. NumerounovedantTalk 17:43, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, I am glad you enjoyed it. I will definitely let you know when I work on it more in the future. Thank you for your help and kind words. I could use all of the luck that I could get lol. Aoba47 (talk) 17:47, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hannah Baker

[edit]

Hey, I hope that you're doing well. I need your help; i just started working on the Hannah Baker's article (from this tv series) and am not sure if the "Storylines" section reads in a manner that it should. Will you mind taking a look, as I would not want to proceed without being sure. It'll be really difficult to change the entire section, once its complete. Thanks a lot either way. NumerounovedantTalk 16:13, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for your message. I am doing well, and I hope you are doing well too. I would love to look through the article. I will try to look through it by the end of today if that is okay with you. Aoba47 (talk) 16:16, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot, though I am guessing that you haven't watched the series? It came out recently on Netfilx. NumerounovedantTalk 16:18, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No worries; I actually have not watched a lot of recent shows, and this is no exception. I have heard about it and it sounds interesting so I may check it out someday in the future. I will have to add it to my never-ending list of television shows to watch. A suicide storyline in a high school setting kind of gives me Life is Strange vibes lol. I am really behind on television (which is ironic considering I used to want to either be a screenwriter or a director for television and/or film). Aoba47 (talk) 16:30, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Here are my notes after giving the article a rather quick speed-read. I would focus your attention on expanding the "Development" and "Reception" section to support that this character has received significant coverage by third-party, reliable sources to avoid any attempts to delete it (either through reverting to a redirect, going through the AfD process, or anything else). As for the storyline section, remember to add specific citations for each individual episode that the events occur. I do not believe the quote at the end of the first paragraph is necessary, and I would suggest removing it as it does not illustrate much to the reader. You can paraphrase this in a much more concise manner. Other than that, it reads decently overall at the moment for a first draft. As you work through it more, it will definitely improve as some of the language could use some revision (people/revisions is a little awkwardly constructed and too informal for Wikipedia). I would just focus on making sure that everything reads cohesively and to avoid repeating names when possible (for instance, the name Clay is repeated a lot in the third paragraph). It could also use more expansion to clearly identify everything that occurred to the character as there appears to be gaps in the storyline as it currently stands; some aspects of it are rather vague. Also, it would be helpful to clarify this section is about the television series and it would be helpful to note if there are any changes between the book and the television series if you would like to work on this further in the future. Also, just as a word of caution, I find it odd that the main series article and this article said that this received "universal" praise when I have seen articles criticized this show (I saw one publication give a completely negative review of this show actually) so just be wary about that in the future. Hope this helps a little. Aoba47 (talk) 16:39, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your help, although on second thoughts I don't think that I have the frame of mind or the patience for taking this all the way, but I'll at least give it a shot. (Fictional characters can be hard and their story arcs become monotonous after going through them so many times.) I'll keep your comments in mind while working on it. NumerounovedantTalk 17:36, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It definitely takes time so don't be too hard on yourself. You can definitely work on this bit-by-bit if you would like; it is tough for a newer character that is still receiving a lot of attention. Good luck with this and your future projects. I am taking a break from working on articles about fictional characters for that very reason so I completely understand. Aoba47 (talk) 17:56, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Let's see how it goes. Oh and I hope that you reconsider your screenwriting/directing dream. I wouldn't mind making an article or two on shows/films that you write/direct. 😁 NumerounovedantTalk 13:24, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Good luck, and that would truly be awesome! Aoba47 (talk) 13:50, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
