My sandbox
May I know why you edit my sandbox while I am still editing it, before I have released it to the article level? This causes my to have to go over all my edits since my last save. Jzsj (talk) 21:22, 12 September 2017 (UTC)
- Jzsj, I assume you are referring to this edit, which did nothing more than substitute {{lien web}} with it's English-Wikipedia counterpart {{cite web}}. Your subsequent edit to "replace what was lost" had almost nothing to do with that edit. Bot accounts work automatically, and this particular task (substituting templates) is done regularly whenever specific templates are used. If you encountered an edit conflict, that is unfortunate, but even though it's your sandbox it's not "protected" from anyone else editing.
- For future reference, if you do not want bots to edit a page while you are working on it, please place {{nobots}} on the page, but please remember to remove it when you move/copy the draft to the Article space. Primefac (talk) 13:36, 13 September 2017 (UTC) (talk page stalker)
- Thanks for the explanation and advice. You must know that when the bot kicks in while I am editing the article it's not easy at all for me to recover all my edits, and I usually only save after every several minutes of editing. I haven't had this happen much before, but will consider using the nobots thing in the future. Jzsj (talk) 15:33, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
Invitation to Admin confidence survey
Hello,
Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.
The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.
To take the survey sign up here and we will send you a link to the form.
We really appreciate your input!
Please let us know if you wish to opt-out of all massmessage mailings from the Anti-harassment tools team.
For the Anti-harassment tools team, SPoore (WMF), Community Advocate, Community health initiative (talk) 20:56, 14 September 2017 (UTC)

I ended up almost edit-warring with AnomieBOT because this diff had the same citation to a Guardian news piece about her, that was defined as <ref name="Guardian">
in two separate places. Attempting to resolve all references to the source, leaving just one definition in place, cause both of us to get royally confused. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:43, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
- It looks like you got confused by the fact that someone commented out (using HTML
<!-- ... -->
comments) the "death_cause" parameter in the infobox, which had included a copy of that reference. Since it's commented out, neither MediaWiki nor AnomieBOT sees it. Anomie⚔ 19:17, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
Wikipedia:In the news/Candidates archiving
When archiving In the news Candidates, your bot is adding code as below:

- The addition of divs like

- The loss of some empty rows.
- The addition of

- Orgideee, unfortunately AnomieBOT is an automated bot account, and has no brain of its own. It merely put a date tag on the {{COI}} template that had been added to the page. It was Shev123 who added the template, so you are welcome to go to User talk:Shev123 and ask them for assistance. Primefac (talk) 15:45, 17 August 2017 (UTC)
Bot malfunctioning
- It keeps replacing this bad link:<ref>{{cite book|last1=Ҫengel|first1=Yunus A.|last2=Boles|first2=Michael A.|title=Thermodynamics: An Engineering Approach|date=2006|publisher=McGrawHill|isbn=9780072884951|page=925|edition=Fifth|url=http://www.mhprofessional.com/product.php?isbn=0077366743}}</ref>
The link is in the Propane article, section: "Energy content". The link takes the user to a dead page. Now the bot is reverting my reverts. I'll leave the bad link there for now. I'm tired of fighting with a Bot. :-) → Pocketthis (talk) 21:09, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
- You deleted one use of the reference but left others in the article. But deleting the reference seems to be incorrect anyway, since the reference to the book would be valid even if that particular website no longer works. But I also note that the reference you attempted to remove from Propane is not the one you pasted above, and all the links in the one you did remove appear to be valid. Anomie⚔ 15:40, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
- You removed the bad part of the link after I left you this message, and you left the good book reference. That would have been a sufficient reply to my comment here. Your BOT isn't perfect my friend. Neither are we.→ Pocketthis (talk) 16:13, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

Template Книга
Hello! There is a problem with template Книга substitution: in this Russian template, parameter страниц means a total number of pages, but it is substituted by English page which means a referenced page, and instead страница should be replaced to page (while страницы correctly redirects to pages). I believe that the English template has no appropriate parameter, so it should be just forgotten. SmesharikiAreTheBest (talk) 22:48, 13 October 2017 (UTC)
- You should bring that up on the template's talk page. The bot doesn't do anything special, it just substs the existing template. Anomie⚔ 22:17, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

Template maintenance
Hi,
Anomiebot attempts to insert date parameters to the {{use dmy dates}} and {{use mdy dates}} templates where the recognised date parameter is absent. I have just noticed that the bot inserts dates even where the date parameter is present but the syntax is incorrect, thereby causing a number of related errors. Could you perhaps tweak the bot code so that the syntax errors are picked up and eliminated when inserting dates? Regards, -- Ohc ¡digame! 21:00, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
- The bot does account for some errors. But there's no way it can sanely do anything about "true" or "dateWee 2013". I think it should be safe to extend its fixes to account for things like "date April 2016" though. Anomie⚔ 00:18, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
AnomieBOT causing duplicate reference definition problem
AnomieBOT continues to cause duplicate ref def errors. The most recent was this edit in the Blue Bloods (TV series) article. By "rescuing" the definition, the definition becomes duplicated and causes an error. The definition actually comes from a transcluded article source. Because AnomieBOT choses to ignore alternate sources (templates, transclusions, ...) for refdefs, it ends up causing duplicate reference definition errors.
This isn't the first time I've reported this problem. Can AnomieBOT disable this feature, or parse templates and inclusions so that it won't undo correct work of other editors? -- Mikeblas (talk) 23:32, 20 October 2017 (UTC)
- There is no error in the revision you link. The error was introduced in the following edit. Anomie⚔ 00:16, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
- I see that the other time you complained about this sort of thing, one of your examples was the same thing: AnomieBOT's edit was correct at the time and a subsequent edit caused a duplicate ref error. The other example was fixed. Anomie⚔ 00:23, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

Bot disrupts me, how to prevent it showing up?
Many times when I'm editing an article and I use the template "citation needed" the bot appears at a random time while I'm editing so it creates and edit conflict which I have to resolve by copying all the things I was editing and pasting them again or by having to start over again. How do I prevent this? I put the date in the template like this (see source code): October2017. Is that wrong? How am I supposed to write it if so? Thanks! Thinker78 (talk) 15:30, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
- Thinker78, the date parameter in templates like {{citation needed}} is in the "Month Year" format, so if you were adding a template today it would be
{{citation needed|date=October 2017}}
. Primefac (talk) 16:14, 30 October 2017 (UTC) (talk page stalker) - @Thinker78: In this edit, I see you added
{{Citation needed|date={{October}} {{2017}}}}
rather than{{Citation needed|date=October 2017}}
. Leave out the extraneous braces. Anomie⚔ 17:22, 30 October 2017 (UTC)- I used the visual editor so when I select the "citation needed" template and click on "add template" I fill out the field of "month and year" which appears with
{{subst:CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{subst:CURRENTYEAR}}
so I assumed that I had to substitute what is inside the braces with the month and the year and leave the braces be. In short I don't know then how to fill out the template using the visual editor. Thinker78 (talk) 04:48, 31 October 2017 (UTC)- Thinker78, if you see {{subst:CURRENTMONTHNAME}} that's all you have to do. CURRENTMONTHNAME is the template that returns the current month, and by subst'ing it you replace the template call with the actual value. In other words, if you're using VE to insert the citation needed template, you don't need to do anything else! Primefac (talk) 12:47, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
- What I now did was to put month and year and delete the braces, is that how is it done in the visual editor? Thinker78 (talk) 21:49, 31 October 2017 (UTC)

What is the design logic behind deletion of name = userEnteredTag?
If one is expanding an article and intends to use a reference twice or more, why should the bot remove the userEnteredTag that an editor chose to type in? Rhadow (talk) 00:58, 1 January 2018 (UTC)
- The bot does not do that. Chances are you made some sort of syntax error that made it unrecognizable to the bot as an attempt at "name = userEnteredTag", or you got confused and it wasn't actually the bot that made the edit. Since you didn't bother to link to the edit in question, I can't guess better than that. Anomie⚔ 03:50, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of 2018 BWF World Tour (Level 2-4)
Hello AnomieBOT,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged 2018 BWF World Tour (Level 2-4) for deletion in response to your request.
If you didn't intend to make such a request and don't want the article to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.
Xx236 (talk) 12:55, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
- User:Primefac removed this section with comment "bot didn't G7 a page...."; I'm undoing that and writing this explanation because that's not entirely accurate.
- When creating redirects for en-dash titles, AnomieBOT sort of does preemptively G7 the page. More specifically, it applies {{User:AnomieBOT/Auto-G8}} to the page, which nominates the page for G8 if the intended target of the redirect gets deleted. The reasoning it uses points out that G6 or G7 could apply too, if for some reason the deleting admin isn't comfortable with the G8 rationale. I had the bot start doing this after a few RfD discussions where people didn't think any speedy criterion would apply.
- But in this situation, it doesn't look like that's what happened. Instead User:Bromalayan blanked the page, then User:Xx236 came along and either incorrectly assumed Bromalayan's blanking validly triggered G7 or saw the bot's template and applied {{speedy deletion-author request}} using a script that made it look that way, including the automated notice that started this section. Then User:RHaworth deleted it as a G7, hopefully after checking the history and finding the bot's note rather than relying on the apparently invalid application of {{speedy deletion-author request}}, but the deletion reason supplied in the log doesn't reflect that.
- In the end the article was correctly deleted, although the "paper trail" makes it look like an invalid G7. Whether it was an actual invalid G7 deletion that happened to be a valid deletion for other reasons, or just people going ahead with script-default reasons after verifying that it was in fact a valid deletion for other reasons, I can't tell. Adding nonessential "cn" tags to the lead
Isn't it kind of a crap shoot to add {{citation needed}} tags to the Lead automatically? If the page was correctly constructed, then the lead should be a summary of material already properly sourced in the body, and placing the tags would be a mistake, as it was in the case of Sexual objectification which was tagged recently. And it if wasn't, it would be very difficult for a bot to determine that. Seems to me that bots should avoid citation-tagging the lead. Mathglot (talk) 05:48, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Mathglot:
Please check again. AnomieBOT only added the current date to a maintenance tag added by another editor in a previous edit.

Malformed template calls (from an April 2017 run)
FYI I found some malformed template calls, created from a run ~9 months ago. I went through the January 2018 data dump and found/fixed ~160, which should be the vast majority, if not all, of them. Just thought you'd want to know ffr. ~ Tom.Reding (talk ⋅dgaf) 15:47, 21 January 2018 (UTC)
- It wasn't anything specifically to do with the bot. One of the bot's functions is generically substing templates, and someone had such a template set up in a way that substed incorrectly. They had thought they fixed all the bad substitutions, but apparently they missed some. Anomie⚔ 16:52, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

- You wrote the following and I don't know how to fix it.
Hi there! I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. Recently, you reverted one of my fixes.
If you did this because the references should be removed from the article, you have misunderstood the situation. Most likely, the article originally contained both <ref name="foo">...</ref> and one or more <ref name="foo"/> referring to it. Someone then removed the <ref name="foo">...</ref> but left the <ref name="foo"/>, which results in a big red error in the article. I replaced one of the remaining <ref name="foo"/> with a copy of the <ref name="foo">...</ref>; I did not re-insert the reference to where it was deleted, I just replaced one of the remaining instances. What you need to do to fix it is to make sure you remove all instances of the named reference so as to not leave any big red error.
If you reverted because I made an actual mistake, please be sure to also correct any reference errors in the page so I won't come back and make the same mistake again. Also, please post an error report at User talk:AnomieBOT so my operator can fix me! If the error is so urgent that I need to be stopped, also post a message at User:AnomieBOT/shutoff/OrphanReferenceFixer. Thanks! Bunco man (talk) 01:38, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
- Bunco man, there is no error, the bot is doing exactly what it should. Based on these edits it looks like you figured it out too. When you removed the original named refs you didn't remove the other callings of that ref. The bot was simply restoring the orphaned refs. As a minor note, I've put
<nowiki>...</nowiki>
tags around your<ref>...</ref>
tags, since I'm pretty sure how it's supposed to be displayed. Out of curiosity, where was that text posted? I don't see any edits by the bot on your talk page. Primefac (talk) 02:42, 7 March 2018 (UTC) (talk page stalker)- Bunco man probably got it linked from the edit summary of Special:Diff/829151693 or Special:Diff/829165929. The bot didn't post to the user's talk page recently because User talk:Bunco man#OrphanReferenceFixer: Help on reversion was still present on the page since 2012, and the bot doesn't repost if the same section title is already on the page. Template:AfDb
I don't get the point of this substition of {{AfDb}}. Not only is it inconsistent to substitute the footer template and not the header, but it also makes it more complicated to remove when the discussion is finally closed. Because of the way these templates are used, the transclusion is only going to be there for a very short time in any case. If they really need to be substituted, it should say so in the administrator instructions. SpinningSpark 20:59, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
- The issue is that {{AfDb}} is also the companion template to {{Afd top}}, which should be substed. This is potentially the downside of having one generic "bottom" template for a host of specific tops, but maybe that means that there should be some sort of {{AfDhb}} for the "hold bottom" that wouldn't be auto-subst. Primefac (talk) 21:41, 6 March 2018 (UTC) (talk page stalker)
- That's not correct. The companion template is {{AfDh}}, not {{AfD top}}. The administrator instructions clearly indicate not to substitute these templates. As I said above, substituting makes no sense. I have also just noticed that {{AfDb}} was redirected fairly recently to {{AfD bottom}} without explanation. It is that redirection that seems to have caused the problem, so the solution would seem to be to revert that edit (no need for {{AfDhb}}. Do you agree? SpinningSpark 10:32, 8 March 2018 (UTC)
- If the redirect was not in place, you would be correct. I've reverted the redirect. Primefac (talk) 13:31, 8 March 2018 (UTC)
- I went ahead and changed the wording of it to match {{AfDh}}, rather than being a copy of an old version of {{afd bottom}} which might have been behind the mistaken redirection. I also replaced a few existing uses of the template to incorrectly match {{afd top}}. Anomie⚔ 13:59, 8 March 2018 (UTC)

Dating maintenance tag error?
Please see recent edits to Spontaneous human combustion article. An inquest was due to take place in March 2018 and Tisquesusa wanted to draw my attention to the fact that there has not been an update since then, so appended the tag {{update needed|date=May 2018}}
This showed up in the text as: ...an inquest was called to further examine the circumstances of his death (due in March 2018).[28][29][needs update]
Your bot came along and changed the tag to {{update needed|2018|5}}
This tag doesn't show up in the text at all: ...an inquest was called to further examine the circumstances of his death (due in March 2018).[28][29]
Is this intentional? It doesn't seem very productive because no-one can see that the tag exists unless they check the edit history.
I reverted the first bot edit but of course the bot came around and made the same change again! So now I'm appealing to you directly. Thanks, Rodney Baggins (talk) 11:20, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
- The bot is working properly. {{Update after}} does not take a

Hello, AnomieBot! You made an edit changing {{As of|April 17, 2018}} → {{As of|2018|4|17}}. That's really pretty neat! However, that ended up displaying 17 April 2018

Possible Error
AfD discussion (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jasmine Directory) archived before it's closure. I mean it was closed as keep but reopened due to non-admin closure WP:NACD. Because the closure was reverted the bot got a bit confused. Any chance of being relisted in some form on Wikipedia:WikiProject_Deletion_sorting/Websites? Robertgombos (talk) 05:16, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
- Robertgombos, I know Anomie will be able to comment more, but the discussion was re-opened a fortnight after it was initially closed. Also, the bot doesn't add the AFDs (just archives them), so I don't even think there's anything to tweak in the bot code; the delsort will have to be re-added to the list manually. Hello bot,
I am a human, and I noticed that when you write a message on a page, you start with "I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors", and you continue to write almost as if you were a human; only in the end of the message can the reader see that you are in fact a robot. Now don't get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being a robot, you robots are awesome, but for some reason some of us like to know from the beginning whether we speak to another human or a robot. It's just a human thing, you know. So, to make us even happier with your excellent work, I would kindly suggest that you start your messages by introducing yourself, for instance by saying "I am a bot that check pages listed in…". Thanks in advance, happy continued botting, and may you always have all the electricity, memory, and CPU time you can ever dream of. --Jhertel (talk) 17:43, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
OrphanReferenceFixer: Blacklisted orphaned reference in Dorina Lepp - Fixed
When trying to fix orphaned refs in Dorina Lepp, MediaWiki's spam blacklist complained about angelopedia.com. This probably means someone didn't properly clean up after themselves when blacklisting the link and removing existing uses, but a human needs to double-check it. The attempted changes were:

- Pinging Wikid77, who made the change - I see you've converted the template from a redirect into an actual template - does it work, and should it be substituted? Primefac (talk) 00:24, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- I just saw this thread. The Template:Webbref works, and lists all parameter names in the documentation section, but I haven't tested the wp:subst yet for accuracy. There are only 236 pages using it so far, and most forgot to reset name {webbref} as {cite web}, but need other punctuation fixes when edited. The Swedish Wikipedia had a massive creation of pages, now over 3.5 million in svwiki, which I think were mostly obscure species pages, using perhaps 1-2 {webbref} per page, so I see no need to subst them in that minor usage, despite the potential cross-wiki creation of thousands of such pages. I am worried that translating Dutch cites might be more important at this point, such as {{Citeer web}} where Dutch "taal=" is language (I think) and users need a template to translate the Dutch parameter names. -Wikid77 (talk) 15:15, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

Xinyuan Real Estate edit
Hi, this edit to Xinyuan Real Estate was not correct - introduced an extraneous reference rather than simply adding another quotation mark. I took a look at the log and didn't see any similar issues recently so didn't shut off the feature, but it seems that the "<ref name="foo> → <ref name="foo">" feature was in this case superseded by the "Copy content for orphaned named refs from linked articles", whereas it should be the opposite. Long or short citations
I cannot help wondering what's the point of replacing long citations with short citations when the short version omits important bibliographic information such as the name of the publisher and the year of publication, (as has happened twice now on the article Iraqi art)? Obviously, these omisssions are like the proverbial "red rag to a bull" to the members of the tag team who will be poised to swoop on the incomplete reference tagging it with Year? Publisher? - However, that is about as far from what actually happened that it's completely irrelevant. You broke a named reference call. The bot fixed it. End of story. Feature request for the edit-request tables
It would be great if the edit-request tables showed if something is cascade-protected. This would particularly help with the template-protected table, since a couple of the requests are full-protected despite the table indicating that they're template-protected. The checks shouldn't be that expensive, since they're only being run on a few pages at a time, and even fewer if the results of the check are cached. Thanks for all the work you've put into the bots! Pulled a ref with the same name from a different page?
Just wondering if this is a bug or something but in this edit the bot "rescued" an "orphaned reference" from a completely different page because they were both named "2.02"? TheDoctorWho (talk) 01:57, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
- It's intended behavior when the reference name can't be found anywhere in the article's own history, approved in Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/AnomieBOT 6. The theory is that people copy content between related articles, so if exactly one linked article has a reference of the same name it's reasonably likely it was copied in that manner. It does skip certain vague reference names, including the ":1" style used as a default by VE.
- In this case, it found the link in the edit summary of this edit. If the bot got it wrong, feel free to remove or replace it. Anomie⚔ 12:52, 4 October 2018 (UTC)

Likewise "archiveurl=" or "archivedate=" (as added by IABot) will skip Swedish "arkivurl=" or "arkivdatum=" as being overridden by IABot's generated equivalent parameters. I generally dislike the tactic where some parameters will auto-eclipse others, but these Bot updates are overwhelming, and so Webbref will attempt to autofix for duplicates, by treatingAnomieBotIABot data as being more recent than the Swedish data parameters. Beware these Bots (such as User:InternetArchiveBot) can generate hundreds and hundreds of cite errors per month, or per week, because of the "robot reasoning" as when automobile robots in the 1980s had "robots painting robots". It goes with the territory, that our templates must be strengthened to become "bot-tolerant" to autofix cites which have peculiar parameters. - Should we worry about flooding Category:Redirects from remote talk pages with doc subpages so any human-applied members are lost in the flood? Anomie⚔ 11:41, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
- Good question. Based on the documentation, no. Certainly to the extent the purpose of the project is to categorize redirects between printworthy and unprintworthy, the automated versus manual distinction wouldn't be relevant. The redirect template could always be edited to put the standard template subpages into a subcategory for convenience of categorization, but again, it seems to me that the distinction is one of classification by purpose or target and not by whether automatically or manually created. --Bsherr (talk) 12:15, 1 November 2018 (UTC)

CategoryCleaner.pm/metadata - wording
Hi Anomie. Recently, I semi-boldly rephrased the wording of this task description, here, because imo it was poorly phrased. Today, the bot reverted me when “Updating published sources”, leading me to suspect that this wording is embedded somewhere else, and only copied to this page. If you wouldn't mind relooking at the wording of the talk, I'd be grateful. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 00:30, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
- It comes from the bot's source code, which is mirrored at User:AnomieBOT/source/tasks/CategoryCleaner.pm. IMO the current wording is slightly unusual but not incorrect. Anomie⚔ 17:39, 7 January 2019 (UTC)
- Also, I think that User:AnomieBOT/source/tasks/PERTableUpdater.pm/metadata should include User:AnomieBOT/IPERTable, which it currently doesn't. --DannyS712 (talk) 05:33, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

Non-empty pages from the past seven days are listed at WP:DRV#Active discussions, non-empty pages from 7–14 days ago are listed at WP:DRV#Recent discussions, and pages with all closed discussion have had their headers removed as expected. Looking at the history of Wikipedia:Deletion review/Recent I see Dec 17 stayed around a bit longer than expected thanks to a missing {{subst:DRV bottom}} that was finally added in Special:Diff/877259449. Hello AnomieBOT,
Could you please explain to someone from another planet (me!) the problem with List of Bulbophyllum species that you noted on its Talk page? When I click on the first part of each note (eg. Bulbophyllum boonjee) I am taken to the article where I see the WCSP reference. When I click on the WCSP reference, I see the listing. When I click on the italicised link in your note (eg. Bulbophyllum boonjee) I see the same WCSP listing. I'm keen to make any fixes but need a bit more help working out what's needed. Gderrin (talk) 22:47, 10 January 2019 (UTC) (and watching)
- (talk page stalker) @Gderrin: In this edit you added a reference named "WCSP" but didn't define it. Sometimes when this happens, the bot can find the same reference name, say, "New York Times 24 May 2003" in a linked article, and the bot makes a good guess that the definition from that article can be safely copied to the article that lacks it. In this case the bot found dozens of different references all named "WCSP" and couldn't safely copy any of them; since each one is about a single species, I think that's correct. The fix is to dig out the page at the World Checklist of Selected Plant Families that has the list of Bulbophyllum species, and add that to your list article as the reference for your lead section. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:33, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

You(bot) have recently made some changes in the article 2R (group). I have removed some of them as they comes to the category of Template programming element which is part of Check Wikipedia project. - Pppery, Why not add it to User:AnomieBOT/TemplateSubster force? Hhkohh (talk) 12:54, 8 February 2019 (UTC)
- My guess is that the "some reason" is that a human editor removed enough of the transclusions to bring it under the 100-transclusion mark. For example, these 6 edits shortly before AnomieBOT started processing it might have brought the total from 102 down to 96, which would allow AnomieBOT to proceed. The bot's logs tell me it substed 90 pages, and there are currently 6 left according to [16]. Anomie⚔ 13:39, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

A few TfDClerk suggestions
- AnomieBOT should say "Module does not exist" rather than "Template does not exist" when closing a discussion for a non-existent module.
- AnomieBOT should handle the case of a template (or, more commonly, module) being moved without leaving a redirect.
See Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2019 January 19 for an example of both cases. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 03:22, 19 February 2019 (UTC)

Anomie: I might be mis-remembering but does AnomieBOT have the ability to clerk CHUS? –xenotalk 00:52, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
- I don't think I ever implemented it. If there are details as to what exactly would be needed, I'll probably have some time next week to implement it if it's needed. Anomie⚔ 22:38, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
- I think I was thinking of Chris G Bot. Cyberpower678 could you let us know your thoughts - whether you'll be able to get the CHUS clerk back up and running soon or would you prefer Anomie modified AnomieBOT to do the job? –xenotalk 14:17, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
- Anomie: I think Cyberpower678 does not have cycles to repair this task. @K6ka and 1997kB: if you guys had the ideal CHUS bot, what would it do? –xenotalk 18:28, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- An ideal CHUS bot would probably do what it currently does now... except I'd probably also like the bot to be able to check for AntiSpoof conflicts (that would be very useful). —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 18:40, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Xeno: Note an overview of what the current bot does (particularly in comparison to what AnomieBOT already does at CHUU) would also be helpful. Anomie⚔ 23:11, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- Anomie: Does this help at all? User:Chris G Bot 3/Source Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Chris G Bot 3 (3rd Request) ? @K6ka and 1997kB: I'm a bit indisposed at the minute, if you could help Anomie with the question above and any other questions, that would be most helpful and hopefully pay dividends in your ongoing CHUS efforts. –xenotalk 15:15, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
- Currently the CHUS bot does the following:
- Checks requests made at CHUS for the following:
- If the requested username already exists (by checking Special:CentralAuth). If it already exists and has made no edits, it will also provide a link to WP:CHUU.
- If the requested username contains any characters that cannot be used in usernames (per Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(technical_restrictions)#Restrictions_on_usernames)
- If the requested username is the same as the current username
- If the requested username is the same as the current username, except for the first letter of the username being in lowercase (in which case it will make the recommendation that users use {{lowercase title}} on their userpages and change their signatures to reflect their preferences)
- If the requested username is the same as the current username, except for underscores in place of spaces
- If the current username does not appear to exist
- If the requesting user had already made a request on CHUS that no human clerk or renamer has responded to
- If the user who made the request is different from the current username used in the request
- Checks the global rename log to see if the request was already done by a renamer who had forgotten to mark it as {{Done}}, and mark it as done appropriately.
- If it doesn't find any issues, the bot leaves a message on the request saying that no technical issues were found (removing the bot message causes the bot to check it again).
- The bot archives requests marked as done 24 hours after they've been processed, and archives requests marked as {{Not done}} 48 hours after the template was added, to the appropriate archive pages. Completed requests are added to incremental archives (e.g. Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple/Archive237) while rejected requests are organized by month (e.g. Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple/Unfulfilled/2019/January). The bot creates a new incremental archive page for completed requests when the archive pages reach about 75,000 bytes in size. The bot also checks to see if it was a global renamer or steward that marked the request as {{Not done}} (it won't archive requests if anyone else adds the template).
- Checks requests made at CHUS for the following:
- Off the top of my head, this is what the current bot does. Of course, if possible, the bot can definitely be improved to better handle the changes to the rename process. Two things that will be of great help to renamers (and requesters) on the page is if the bot could:
- Check for AntiSpoof conflicts with the requested username.
- Check for any previous rename log entries from the requesting user.
- These aren't hardline issues that would for sure prevent a rename from occurring, but it will help if a bot could make note of them. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 16:25, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
- Also if bot automatically notifies on user talk page (using Template:CHU note, which we do manually now) on conflicts on requests, it will be helpful for requesters as many of requests goes to not done without response. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 17:55, 15 January 2019 (UTC)

- Just to close the loop, Cyberbot seems back in working order so I guess this can be placed on the back burner. –xenotalk 18:35, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
- Ok. Sorry I didn't get a chance to code it. Anomie⚔ 01:09, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
Minor edit request table suggestion
I suggest that the bot wraps the "count" in <section begin="count" /> ... <section end="count" />
(see WP:LST for a description of what those tags do) tags on the edit request tables, to make the count machine-readable. I currently have three edit requests open at Template talk:Protected page text, which is confusing the navbox into thinking there are two fewer requests than there actually are, and this would fix that. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 20:46, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
- To be clear, that would mean implementing this edit. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 22:08, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
- LST uses somewhat ugly syntax. But whatever, Done Anomie⚔ 22:27, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
SourceUploader: Please fix Template:Editnotices/Group/User:AnomieBOT/shutoff - fixed
To display the proper editnotice on shutoff pages for the AnomieBOT bot User:AnomieBOT, please ensure that Template:Editnotices/Group/User:AnomieBOT/shutoff contains the following text:
{{ombox | type = delete | image = [[File:Shutdown button.svg|40px|link={{fullurl:Special:Block|wpTarget=AnomieBOT&wpExpiry=indefinite&wpHardBlock=1&wpAutoBlock=0&wpCreateAccount=0&wpReason=other&wpReason-other=Bot%20malfunctioning:%20}}|Emergency block button]] | text = To disable the task {{SUBPAGENAME}}, enter your reasoning in this page. If the task is currently running, the bot may make one more edit before noticing that it has been shut off, but rest assured it ''will'' notice. }} {{ombox | text = To re-enable the task, blank the page. }}
Thanks. When you have fixed this issue, please change the section title (e.g. append " - Fixed") or remove this section completely. I will repost the notice if the page is still broken or is re-broken. Thanks! AnomieBOT⚡ 00:40, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
- Apparently, making bold improvements to pages related to bots isn't allowed. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 00:45, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Pppery: I like your change! I just had to copy it to the rest of the bot accounts' edit notices and update the bot to check the new version. Anomie⚔ 00:56, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
TfDClerk is too exclusion-compliant
I just excluded the bot from Wikipedia:Templates for discussion, and now it isn't updating Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Old unclosed discussions even though a discussion was closed. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 21:58, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah, that'll happen. Don't exclude the bot. Anomie⚔ 01:08, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Anomie:, per WT:TFD#Page Size Exceeded, can you update bot code like CFDClerk: updating discussion section with a wikilink instead of transclusion. Thanks, Hhkohh (talk) 07:23, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Hhkohh and Pppery: You don't seem to have things structured like CFD though. And looking at the linked discussion, it's not clear you've even reached a final decision, versus
but if the mass TfD goes closed, we should back to previous version
. - My best guess at what you might want at the current moment would be for the bot to stop editing WP:TFD#Current discussions entirely, and to update WP:TFD#Old discussions with basically what it posts to WP:CFD/AC#Discussions awaiting closure currently. Or you might instead want to create Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Awaiting closure exactly like CFD has, so the bot doesn't have to edit WP:TFD itself at all. Anomie⚔ 22:38, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

I choose option C: code up a Lua module that synthesizes the table at WP:TFD#Old discussions from Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Old unclosed discussions and cuts the number of bot edits in half. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 22:48, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
@Hhkohh and Anomie: Coded at Module:Sandbox/pppery/summarize page. Using CfD as an example:
Extended content
|
---|
and that requires no bot updates beyond those already happening to the "/Old unclosed discussions" page. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 23:31, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
- *shrug* Sure. I'll have the bot stop editing WP:TFD entirely then. Anomie⚔ 00:34, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
Behold the end of the era of bots and the beginning of the era of Lua! {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 01:02, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
@Anomie: I proposed using the same Lua module for CfD, and got one two users in support and no opposition in two days, so could you have the bot stop editing Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Awaiting closure as well. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 01:54, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
May I point out that the documentation for the AccidentalLangLinkFixer task still refers to the old category name, which has now been renamed and is a redirect. Pppery 20:54, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
This still hasn't been fixed. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 00:24, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
