Cicero's letters to Atticus (Epistolae ad Atticum)

Hi Angela. I notice that you deleted a stub on this three years ago. It's not clear to me why. It's an immensely important book. Cooke (talk) 12:15, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

the Sydney Journal

[edit]

Hi there, Just thought I'd drop you, and the other sydneysiders who came to the meetup, a line and mention that the first edition of the Dictionary of Sydney's online, peer-reviewed journal is now live.

The Sydney Journal is the first (and most academically rigorous) "product" of the Dictionary. It will be a quarterly publication with a variety of texts from upcoming Dictionary articles and is hosted by UTS E-press. This edition features 4 thematic articles, 6 ethnicities and 5 suburbs - all specifically related to Sydney.

I hope you find it useful and interesting - If nothing else it's essays are eminently referenceable for their corresponding articles here on WP.

User-Rename

Hello Angela,

I am zh:User:Wing on the chinese Wikipedia. In en-Wikipedia I use the user name user:Philopp because user:Wing here is already occupied. But this user has not been active since 2003, so can you rename my user name so that I can make it identical with my other accounts? Thanx.--Philopp (talk) 08:54, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Angela. You may not remember me. I am user Davichito. I was seeing my talk page and I remembered you. I just wanted to say Hello, and I wanted to say that I have come back to edit articles. And your picture is really good, if that is really you. hehe. I hope to hear from you soon (if this message does not get deleted for being just nonsense). If you like it I will send you a chapter of a sci-fi tale of mine. Bye.

Me again. David (talk) 02:52, 28 March 2008 (UTC). Just testing this button. Bye.[reply]

G'day

[edit]

G'day esteemed person who has expressed interest in Sydney based meetups at this page (I hope that's the correct wording for the formal greeting!!). You may have heard that Australia is to have its very own 'chapter' of the Wikimedia Foundation - and further, there's a meeting coming up to discuss / enact the chapter's incorporation (details here). I'm afraid that I don't know too much about the details of what this entails, other than having a private hope that we might get a secret handshake, and maybe cheap coffee at wikimania (this is a poor attempt at humour - I'm sure that the Chapter's do great work, and it's a good thing that Australia is to have one).

If you're interested in meeting up this weekend (the set date is the 20th) - or later, then please do head over here and sign up, or make a comment at the talk page... the drive to create the chapter has largely come from another town in Australia that I'm afraid I haven't actually heard much about.. and anything they can do.... right? - cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 11:11, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Drinks and a wiki chat?

[edit]

G'day sydneysider - fancy a 'not quite a meetup but a few drinks' sort of thing? - We can chat about the new aussie chapter, the price of eggs and have our very own 2020 Wiki Summit! - or just sink a couple of cold ones and gass bag about the good 'ol days of wiki, when an editor could get some repsect (not a typo)! I've suggested something here so take a look and sign up if you're up for it... cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 02:29, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bramashri swami Sivanandha

Why was this page deleted? Swami Sivanandha is one of the Gurus who is generating the importance of Hindusim.

It didn't cite any sources and there was no evidence in the article itself that the person was notable. Angela. 04:22, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean the article I deleted in 2006? If you created one yesterday, I didn't delete that and I can't see that it existed. You don't have any deleted edits. Are you sure you saved the page? Template creation policy (HasSpoilers deleted for no reason)

[edit]

I did a template called {{HasSpoilers}}. As you are from Wikia.com too, you should know why we use them for. An admin deleted it here and called me a vandal! I am very sensitive and I am sending a copy to you of what I answered to him. Maybe you can explain me Wikipedia policy different from Wikia.com policy.

The vandalic template content was:

Wikipedia contains spoilers

to be included in The Celestial Plot. I should have pasted there instead of creating a template, but I am lazy... I prefer templates. And he put this on the template:

This includes blatant and obvious misinformation, and redirects created during cleanup of page move vandalism.

Misinformation? It is a template to be included in articles, I am not claiming that Wikipedia is a spoiler or something as that admin seems to think... Strange, no? I did not understand the thing about cleanup of move, I understand Wikia policies, it seems that Wikipedia policies are harder for my poor brain.

And I paste here my answer to him:

>Sorry, I did not know about policies here. I come from Literature Wikia and >there we have a template {{spoiler}} to include the >warning. I don't think which is the case for deleting, explain to me, >because I will just include it in some short stories articles that contain >spoilers. > >*Isn't it the same than just pasting the whole sentence? >*Which is the policy? Please say the policy in words me to read a 100 >paragraphs article about wikipedia policy. I don't have much time. If you >won't then don't even bother to answer. >*Is creating a useful template being a vandal? Then we should not create >them? >*I was not "testing" but you said me to use the sandbox. It was to be >included in articles. >*Check http://literature.wikia.com and see that there it is not considered >spoiling. And don't answer me that wikia is wikia and that wikipedia is >wikipedia because I already know, I am not so idiot.

>If some of this sounded rude to you, I felt someone was rude by deleting it >so fast. You could have said that to me first then deleting it.

>And I am not a vandal, please stop harassing me. Being ignorant is not >vandalism. Vandalism is deleting articles and including nonsense. My >template was not nonsense, I think, it is useful.

>David (talk) 01:38, 4 May 2008 >(UTC)

My questions to you are: Am I right or not? Or that template was the devil itself in ways that I cannot imagine?

I am not right, I think I should go back to Wikia.com. At least there, I am not called a vandal for unknown reasons. I am not weeping, but I claim to be treated like a user; I am not a vandal for creating a simple template that everyone in Literature Wikia uses, am I?

I hope you could help me, I admire you since your first welcome to me here back in 2003...

Hi there. I suggest you link to a news about an earthquake in Colombia, 5.3 Richter in the Main page, in section news. If you please, link to Earthquake on Colombia 2008-05-24. I don't know the format of news here, so everybody can help with data. In Colombia, we do not have much data about the event; I took it from a US earthquake website. You don't need any special access to be a MediaWiki developer. You can submit patches to mediazilla: and through that gain the trust needed to have direct SVN access if you need it. I recommend you join the #mediawiki IRC channel if you're not already there. Angela. 14:14, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For want of a better forum

[edit]

I like to think I have a good idea of where to go for just about any question or discussion on en.wiki, but this one really does have me stumped. Over at Wikipedia talk:Text of the GNU Free Documentation License#Standards we're having a bash at playing a little (emphasis on little, don't worry :D) with this page. I've come to realise that there's absolutely no reason whatsoever why we need to have a local copy of this page at all: would it be a good idea to move the page, and presumably all its companions on every other wiki in every other language, to a central page, possibly foundation:Text of the GNU Free Documentation License. What do you think? Good idea? If so, how do we go about doing that (do you have an account at foundation:?)? I'll be watching here, or at that discussion - wherever's most convenient. Happymelon 20:50, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I expect the reason it's here is that some people interpreted something in the license to suggest a local copy of the text was needed. You'd need a wider discussion (and/or legal advice) before removing it from here. Angela. 06:04, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Obfuscated Perl Contest

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Obfuscated Perl Contest, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. B. Wolterding (talk) 12:06, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I've moved them all to Wikia:Programming:Category:Programming contests. We're developing a couple of tools to make it easier to preserve free content which would otherwise be lost in situations like this, so this is a nice opportunity to try it out. A Sydney Meetup

[edit]

G'day all - I'm dropping this note in to let you know that there's to be a Wiki Meetup the week after next, on Tuesday, 21st at 18:00 at The Paragon in Circular Quay. If you've ever thought about popping along to one of these, but haven't had the chance - now's the time! If you love the idea, but the time and / or place don't quite work for you, please do feel free to wiki edit away at the meetup page and I'm sure we can sort something out :-) Meetups are a great way to share wiki-thoughts, meet wiki-friends, and generally learn how to prefix all areas of your life with wiki- :-)

It's a very friendly bunch, and we're hoping to be able to formally collect membership fees and details for the Australian Chapter (did you know that we're the only current english speaking chapter? Join now for kudos and future bragging rights!) - as well as just generally have a good 'ol time. I look forward to seeing you there :-) best, Privatemusings (talk) 07:48, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

About Meta Projects on Macedonian language

[edit]

Hi. I'm Kiril Simeonovski, administrator on Wikipedia on Macedonian language. I want to propose and ask for something which, for me is good to implement using wikia. My idea is to create a chess server, which can be used by the users on Wiki. For me there are good oportunities to introduce something like this. I think, this would be a big step for the wikia goals, and for me, the most important question now is how to make wiki remarkable in other non-encyclopedic fields as soon as possible?

But, actually, the most important thing is that wiki lives of Wikipedia.

Please, think about this, and answer to me. Regards.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 00:15, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean playing chess on a wiki or something else? That used to exist on Wikipedia but was deleted (see this discussion and this archive). The same thing on Wikia was hardly used (wikiasite:games:chess). Angela. 00:25, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's ok. Thank you for the information. If the deletion was voted, then it's ok. I just wanted to know more about all wikia projects. Can you send me a list of all active or non-active (deleted) wikia projects. Regards.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 00:40, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. Do you mean wiki or Wikia? If Wikia, then can you please email me instead since this is Wikipedia which is not a Wikia project. Angela. 00:55, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whilst it's quite likely you'll have heard this news on the grapevine, in your email inbox, or even in person - I thought that it was sufficiently exciting to warrant giving each of you a 'new messages' orange bar! This particular orange bar has been brought to you to let you know that Wikimedia Australia is now open for members!

I'm not on the committee or anything, and that's where the credit is due in getting everything to this point, but I think it would be absolutely fantastic for folks who wish to support the australian wiki community, to go ahead and sign up - we're quite likely to be the world's fatest growing chapter at the moment! Join Us :-)

Here's a little more about membership, and the mailing list in particular is well worth signing up to as well, and is a good forum to get answers to any questions answered, or to share any ideas. I've dropped these notes in under my own steam, and you've received one because you're on this list - feel free to ask me any questions, or anything - I can certainly point you in the right direction :-) cheers all, Privatemusings (talk) 04:03, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

I saw this!

How did you get the SUL checking tool to work? --Dweller (talk) 12:27, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't. Having just read the archives of the last time the toolserver was down, I probably should have added a note that renames couldn't be done currently, instead of assuming that the 3 names just weren't in use (they're not common usernames and show no results in a cross-wiki search). If it turns out to be a problem when the tool is working again, I will fix it, but I'm expecting it won't be. Angela. 14:16, 3 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What a smart girl you are! Did someone have to contact one of you devs over the phone or something? And ha ha will this work next time someone registers an account starting in User:WP:?Magog the Ogre (talk) 06:02, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! That was getting worrying. --Closedmouth (talk) 06:08, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Seddon pinged me on Skype about it, but you could have found me or another steward to help just as quickly on the #wikimedia-stewards channel on IRC. Kylu is helping out too. In about half an hour, the issue will not be able to occur again, but until then, either she or I will be available for emergency renames. Angela. 06:09, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks also - that was quick work. Nick-D (talk) 06:16, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nice job of dealing with that user. Thank you! :) I didn't notice the user name got changed. Versus22 talk 06:35, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
30 minutes, that quickly? I guess the devs are getting up at 3AM to fix this... Magog the Ogre (talk) 06:58, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It wasn't 30 minutes from when I was told about it. In emergencies like this, please go to the stewards IRC channel where you're very likely to find someone within minutes at any time. Angela. 09:11, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

First, I just saw that you married Tim. Congrats! (Better late than never) Best wishes to the both of you.

Second, re: your interview with World Net Daily here - if I were doing that interview, I would have told them that Wikipedia is not a venue for conspiracy theories. I think that's a better answer than simply defining what an administrator is. Raul654 (talk) 13:01, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the congrats. :)
I did not do an interview with World Net Daily. They've picked up some quotes I said somewhere else years ago. They did the same to Cary in December when they wrote about the IWF issue. I expect no one sane will actually talk to them, so they pretend to have interviewed people by copying things said elsewhere. Angela. 14:28, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Prekmurian dialect move Prekmurian language

[edit]

Hello! Please help me. I cannot move the article Prekmurian dialect moved in the name Prekmurian language. The prekmurian is a great slovene dialect, but have literary standard, hence essentially regional language. Doncsecz 06:48, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please discuss it at Talk:Prekmurian dialect first, or leave a message on WP:RM, as changing a title from dialect to language can be controversial in some cases. Angela. 08:06, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiAtlas

[edit]

Why aren't you interested in developing our own WikiMapia system? Wouldn't a WikiAtlas sister project be useful to wiki media? Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:57, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm interested, but it is not up to me.--Jimbo Wales (talk) 17:55, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I did mention it at the Meta Wiki before but any discussion seems to get overidden with other discussions underneath and in the end it ends up being only two or three people commenting on it! I think that a WikiAtlas sister project would be a great idea and whereas with WikiMapia it is just a map with names, our own Atlas project could have the articles on wikipedia wiki linked on the atlas or at least a summary comes up when you hover over a place name etc so we take the maps a step further by actually providing information about these places by linking to wikipedia. Like WikiMini Atlas but obviously more professional looking maps and details, showing highways, towns and villages, evne landmarks like notable govenrment buildings and churches, airports etc with labels like wikimapia when you zoom in on them. It would also fit in with standard encyclopedias which always have a proper atlas for reference usually in the center. I just thinking that the information provided on maps should be part of our overall project goal to provide knowledge and the goal which WikiMapia is trying to achieve, "with the aim of describing the whole world" is pretty much our own philosophy within reason. I think the wiki project is large enough in scope to make it successful eventually. I know a great deal of people look for maps on the web of places for a reference but where we could differ from google and wikimapia in this respect we would have info summarised about these places too rather than just location. If given time to develop it might even help generate more traffic towards the site and project in the long term if more and more people use it for a reference when looking for maps too. I would very much like to help make something happen in this area, could you mention it to anybody on the board or suggest how we might start a fuller discussion on it? Thanks. Dr. Blofeld White cat 11:32, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you are genuinely interested could you please mention it or suggest a way we can work towards making it happen? Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:29, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The only way to really make this happen is to get enough people interested working on it. It's very unlikely that the board would be the ones to start this. In most cases, new Wikimedia projects are proposed and started by the community. Talking to people already working on compatible projects such as OpenStreetMap may be a good starting point. There are lots of pages about Wikimaps on meta where you might find interested people. Angela. 15:56, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all, it's Meetup time again :-) - Hopefully you'll be up for meeting on April 22nd at about 6pm at The Paragon, a pub in Circular Quay. It'll be the usual round of drinks and chit chats, with no particular agenda, just some friendly faces, and a shared interest in Wiki stuff. If you've thought about coming along before, but haven't made it - we'd love to see you - it'll be a relaxed, social chin wag about all things wiki - bring anyone along you fancy, and I hope you can make it :-)

Please do sign up on the meetup page, and do also feel free to nominate an alternative time / date / location if for whatever reason the 21st doesn't work for you - we're an accommodating bunch :-) cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 04:11, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're an admin, so I thought you would know this. Where can I find a list of the 100 most frequently viewed articles on Wikipedia? Wiwaxia (talk) 05:58, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not Angela, but I don't think she'll mind me answering for her. You can find the list here Raul654 (talk) 06:08, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmmm . . . that's a nice list, but it seems biased towards right now. I'm looking for a list of the 100 most viewed articles of all time. Wiwaxia (talk) 07:49, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The stats haven't been running for all time, so there's no way now to ever find that out - even the old server logs are long gone. The best you could get would be most popular since stats.grok.se was set up. Angela. 12:55, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Then the next obvious question: where can I find the most viewed sites since stats.grok.se began running? Wiwaxia (talk) 02:14, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The archived stats are at dammit.lt/wikistats/archive/ which you could collate to find the most popular articles since the stats began. I don't know whether anyone has already done that. Angela. 11:27, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request (SUL account)

[edit]

Hello Angela,
Pleased to meet you! I would like to request your assistance concerning a universal account. My (user)name is Atlantia, and I'm an active contributor to the greek wikipedia. I have recently created a SUL account, and everything went fine, but it seems to me that there is a user conflict in the english wikipedia. Using the "SUL username collisions detector" I have discovered that another user has a created an account with my username (earlier than me to be honest). However, it seems that he or she has not a user page nor discussion page nor contributions. If that's the case, would it be possible for me to use the username "Atlantia" in the english wikipedia as well?
Thanks in advance for your help. Please, feel free to contact me in my discussion page. 22 April 2009

Having noticed a comment you have made to another user above, I have left a message here. If there is nothing more to the process, I wish to thank you and apologize for the false alarm! Atlantia, 23 April 2009

Hello, I was registered on cz.wiki as Aum since 2006 and I have an account Aum-cz on en.wiki too. I createed an unified account Aum recently but I've found about 10 Aum users on different wikis. Since there are only 4 apparently inactive AUM accounts (http://toolserver.org/~vvv/sulutil.php?user=AUM), I asked for renaming my cz account to AUM. Walloon Wictionary

[edit]

I made an announcment to the "community" (here). In fact, I am the only worker on that Wiktionary, and I am still in the "apontiaedje" phase.

I did not succeed in re-asking for manager on the adequate page.

Is it possible for you to provide me a definitive manager status (and ask it for me in the right place) ?

I did not succeed neither in recopying the set of special characters available under the page when changing it (as the "ahessåvès letes" in Walloon Wikipedia).

Also a general Model from Wiccionaire to Wikipedia (I invented some very simple ones Wikipedia, Wikipedia2, 3, and Wikipedia4 a little better). But they could be better !!!

Thank you if you can help me (the first manager on Walloon Wiki, Mr Sarachaga, has not leisure time for the moment to work with me on Wiktionary; he provide the most parts of the interface of Walloon Wikipedia. I am rather a provider of content.)

Thank you in advance

Original fair-use rationale discussion

[edit]

Hi Angela. I am wondering if you can kindly point me in the direction of the discussions that brought about the usage of fair-use images here on enWP? I'm really interested in the rationale that was used to permit the upload and usage of non-free images here as there have been some efforts to get it going over at simpleWP. I understand that a lot was discussed on mailing lists initially but I don't know which or when. Dear Angela, I've been told by the portuguese wikipedia bureaucrats that I should ask all the other wikipedia bureaucrats to change my account name in their wikipedias so I can unify my acount all over. he.wiki

[edit]

There is a ideological censorship about porn in the Hebrew Wikipedia, this is the current policy: here translated to English. You cannot create an article about a porn star unless she or he became famous for something else (like Traci Lords because she is a singer/actor or Ilona Staller because she is a politician). "Character's life there is another aspect to meet the criteria of encyclopedic value. Action porn is not enough to win about Hebrew Wikipedia." "Not displayed pictures of her body except the portrait of the character, even if the figure wearing a Catholic nun.", "There will be no external links to sex sites." and etc.

You can talk to User:Yonatan or User:Amire80 to confirm this.

I think it's a strong violation of the global Wikipedia (The Free Encyclopedia)/Wikimedia rules and of WP:NOTCENSORED policy.

I think you should force them to change this policy.

Sorry for my bad English.

Thanks.

[edit]

Hi, I'm wondering why you've removed a paragraph from the page Penny (Australian) for the reason "removing likely copyright violation" ? How can you know that this text violates some copyright ? DeepPurple46 (talk) 18:53, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It had been pasted in directly from part of another page in this edit. I don't believe they copied it from Wikipedia but that the Wikipedia user copied it from them because it was only part of their page, and because it's not the usual encyclopedic style of Wikipedia but instead a style that matches the rest of the site it was copied from. Angela. 02:43, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for this explanation. It is sure that the style isn't the encyclopedic one, and that the added value of this paragraph was very low. DeepPurple46 (talk) 04:55, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all,

It's meetup time again in Sydney - hopefully you'll be able to come along for friendly chat and drinks about all things wiki - topics will no doubt include the Chapter - perhaps with planning for the upcoming AGM, the general state of wiki-play, and the traditional candle lighting to encourage the mythical flagged-revisions extension to make its way on to the wiki. At this point, I usually mention that sitting wiki arbitrators are compelled to buy everyone a drink, but one of our number has taken a rather extreme route in avoiding this duty - if you have no idea what I'm talking about then you're probably busy writing and maintaining articles - but come along anyways on the 21st October, from 18.30 til late, to find out :-) cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 21:32, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Translators

[edit]

Any chance you could contact some language schools and colleges to help practice their language skills by translating from Wikipedia:WikiProject Intertranswiki? For this to be a success we need numbers. Publicizing that we need translators in any language I think is an important step to make. Have you browsed French, Spanish and Italian and German wikis for instance. There are several million articles which we could benefit from having them translated into english... Himalayan 09:13, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have any contact with any language schools. Perhaps the people at translatewiki.net could help to promote this instead? Angela. 13:05, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK thanks for letting me know. Do you not think though that wikia has a responsibility to try to meet its goals, one of them "producing an encyclopedia of the highest standard". Given that well over half of our existing encyclopedia and million of missing articles need instant improvement by translating from a different language whether it is Italian municipalities which have remained one liners for years or German castles or whatever don't you think we need to be doing something to publicize this need for translators? I think we should be doing more to publicize the need for this sort of work on wikipedia and we are missing thousands of potential contributors who are unaware of this demand for translators. I think that if the people who run this site are serious about improving quality we should be doing a lot more to contact schools and universities and any other potential contributors to raise awareness. I mean I know that wikipedia is one of the most popular sites on the web and used by millions of people, the problem is that it is not edited widely by a similar number.. For instance see Wikipedia:WikiProject Intertranswiki/German. At present we have just 4 German-English translators. How many people in the world speak German and English and how many quality articles are there on German wikipedia which are in urgent need of translation..? How do we attract the mass of people needed to translate if we don't do anything to make potential translators in schools or whatever aware of it?. Himalayan 13:24, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Expanding Article on Hendrik Frensch Verwoerd

[edit]

There appears to be a group of individuals who consistently impede any constructive additions to the article in question. Undoing and blocking all editions pertaining to users outside their nest of selections.

The editing recently done to this article has been referenced to credible sources, some already available on other related articles, regardless of the fact of the neutrality displayed in the additions manifested in the facts and phraseology in use.

It would be detrimental to Wikipedia if a consensus is not reached on this question pertaining to all articles not only this one. If the material being added is not significant it would be understandable, yet where the facts could be correct and the community interested in the subject at hand are in conflict with the manner of its publication, the rational and professional solution would be to offer an alternative to the edition being proposed. Simply deleting and blocking any attempt to contribute to this and any other article in a constructive manner can only be viewed as autocratic in the least and a hypocrisy of what the globally renowned Wikipedia stands for.Wsa1 (talk) 22:22, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Constant harassment against me by a small group of editors

[edit]

Can you please do something about this? There are a small group of editors that keep harassing me by constantly insulting me and then requesting that I be banned. It has gotten well out of hand and I feel that the bureaucrats as a whole need to step and tell them to stop it. Here is an attempt by them to get me banned Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#User:Wiki Greek Basketball. I am 100% confident that there must be some kind of site policy that is against trying to wrongly get people banned and doing it simply out of some sort of hatred or personal issues. I don't know what exactly to do about this other than to report it directly to a general group of people. That is why I am telling you and all the others directly about it. Because reporting it on the noticeboard is not working and does not work. As long as only a small group of people are involved they are able to harass you and get away with it. Please kindly tell these editors to stop harassing me and to not bring any false abuse reports against me again and please tell them to not attempt to wrongly ban me again. I thank you very, very much if you will help me with this. Thank you sincerely for any help as it will be greatly appreciated.Wiki Greek Basketball (talk) 09:46, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Angela! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 3 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. In the months since I created Teachable moment, the topic has taken on an unanticipated personal relevance. I wonder if you might consider joining other co-mentors in a mentorship committee for me?

Perhaps you might consider taking a look at an old edit at Wikipedia:Mentorship#Unintended consequences? In the search for a mentor deemed acceptable by ArbCom, I cite this as a plausible context for discussing what I have in mind.

I am sending you an e-mail as well. Please contact me by e-mail or on my talk page. --Tenmei (talk) 04:57, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's been a while since the wiki folk of Sydney had the chance to meetup - and there's quite a lot going on. If you've never been to a meetup before, you're especially welcome, and if you're an old hand, then please do make an effort to touch base :-) You can sign up here, or drop a note on my talk page if you have any questions or anything - hope to see you there! cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 02:57, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's a pretty arbitrary date (as usual co-inciding with me being in the city) - no-one's signed up as definite yet, so does a week earlier or later mean you guys might make it? - worth a thought anywhoo.. Privatemusings (talk) 03:19, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe if it was later, but I can't guarantee it so it's not worth changing the date for us. Maybe just have another in April, as long as it doesn't clash with the MediaWiki / Chapters meetings in Berlin. (I realise those pages are unhelpfully blank for now, but I believe it's happening sometime around the 14th.) Angela. 07:34, 25 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit war in the article of prekmurian dialect

[edit]

Angela! I need to help, as User:Doremo keep at edit war in the article of prekmurian dialect. Doremo constantly constrain to the names Prekmurje dialect, Prekmurje language, and Slovenian language, Slovenian dialects, Hungarian Slovenians. In the english wikipedia Slovene language, Slovene dialects, Hungarian Slovenes articles is legibles, accordingly the Slovenes the received name. I know account for the prekmurian language, prekmurian dialect also received, grammatically convenient names. Doremo allude to the tractate of the american linguist Marc L. Greenberg, where Greenberg use to the Prekmurje language name. But yet Greenberg and the dean of University of Maribor, Marko Jesenšek also accept to the prekmurian norm. See also: STYLISTICS IN ADVERTISING TEXTS IN PREKMURJE. My mother tongue is the prekmurian, and few speakers be for to the name prekmurian language, prekmurian dialect. Besides i care to shortly presentate to the prekmurian in SIL international, that enrol this language with name prekmurian. Doncsecztalk 16:50, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please solve the vandalism problem at this page, user http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Squash_Racket is erasing comments on the discussion page, he violates the facts on the article even if the other concensus is achieved on the discussion page. Can you please check it out, if not, who should i address with this problem? Thank you.188.2.97.229 (talk) 18:00, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

User:Iadrian yu (above IP) evades his block he received for edit warring. Squash Racket (talk) 18:04, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Lol, he follows me. User:Iadrian yu we live in the same city, i am not registered but i am trying to prevent page valdalism after i saw that user banned. Just because we live in the same city means i can`t edit wikipedia? And the fact that http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Squash_Racket is manupilating even the discussion page is outrageous.188.2.97.229 (talk) 18:12, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Again: User:Iadrian yu (above IP) evades his block he received for edit warring.
They live in the same city and happen to edit extremely similarly. Squash Racket (talk) 18:11, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Again: User:Squash Racket is vandalizing the discussion page and the article.188.2.97.229 (talk) 18:13, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Blocked user's (User:Iadrian yu) edits SHOULD be removed. Squash Racket (talk) 18:15, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If there's a problem with vandalism, please report that at WP:AIV. Angela. 19:17, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

An Admin power abuse question

[edit]

Hi, Angela I am writing to you because you were one of the first in the list of bureaucrats. My user name is Lilit Gabyan. I used to be an admin in Armenian language wiki in 2005 as user Lilith. Then I stopped being active because of some personal problems. Quite recently I decided to return back and was astonished to see that for Four years so little has been done in the site as compared to other language sites. So I felt somewhat excited and responsible for doing something. I am an educated adult and hope I do not sound as capable for indecent and offensive behaviour, violating Wikipedia ethics because these were exactly the charges for banning my IP for three days. I had dared to ask the admin HOW MANY OPINIONS ARE MAKING THE VOICE OF COMMUNITY and something like WHO IS THE CLEVER GUY that has broken the links in all articles to other language wikis without cleaning up so as the word is blue but linking to nowhere. Whatever I want to regain adminship because I see I have a lot to do in the Armenian wiki but I feel that the current admins are very prone to abusing their power and I am afraid that there is some sort of admin brotherhood conspiracy so they will resist by all means the entry of a new admin through community voting, as long as they are the most active participants pushing away all newcomers with different viewpoints. I understand the adminship acquiring and regaining processes in each wiki are internal affairs. But in this particular case there is no bureaucrat in the Armenian wiki and 6 young male admins are going astray without a balancing voice. The community is not active and there is a danger of continuous collective power abuse. The statistics of the Armenian wiki are quite eloquent. Would you please be so kind as to advice me what can I do to regain adminship. I had more than 1500 edits in the course of the first two weeks of April. And my IP closure came like a bucket of ice water in the middle of saving an article that I had worked on for several hours. First I was so disappointed that I had decided not to return. I have had enormous emotional stress in the course of these three days. Now I am determined to stay and work for regaining adminship as long and as much as it takes. I will highly appreciate your advice --Lilit Gabyan (talk) 20:04, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what the local policies on the Armenian Wikipedia are, so I can't really advise what you should do about this. Is there any process like WP:RFC or WP:ARBCOM there? Would it help if you just edited without adminship for a while first in order to rebuild trust within the community? Angela. 01:26, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That is the biggest question. All references for adminship are linked to the English wiki files they have not been even translated. The majority of Wikipedia files existing now are those that I personally have started to translate back in 2005. Which has been not more than 15 percent of all. Now for the beginning I started to edit and translate whatever files where missing for the Help functions, even the History of Wikipedia was unfinished. The only file complete and done after me is 5 pillars which these guys are quoting in answer to any question. All the other answers and justifications they give are references to either selectively and erroneously translated sentences with very subjective interpretation, like: It is forbidden to link to other language wikis. Give it with ref tags because it is an unpleasant surprise when a visitor is pushing on the link and it takes him to another language page. And later another admin is making a statement: It is forbidden to give references to the articles of other language wikis. We have already discussed and made decision and you ought to abide to the decision of the community. I brought this examples because they were the latest. Or: It is forbidden to translate articles from other language wikis period. And there is an ominous template in all articles promising to erase all translations because it is a violation of copyrights however there is no explanation to the English language referenced Commons attribution circumstances with no whatsoever corresponding translated clauses. I started to make a list of Wikipedia files to be translated ASAP which I think was exactly what frightened them. All internal policies are orally agreed upon in personal meetings and to any objection the reference is made: look in the discussion in the Archive.
There is very obvious discrimination. Like in the course of two weeks I was not aware that under three names one and the same person is participating in the discussions and doing it so masterfully changing the style of writing and even orthography and wording that I was answering to each of his statements thinking I am talking to three different persons. All the others in the admin community were actually having fun watching my multilateral dialogue. Nobody even hinted the fact of puppetry. However when I made an attempt to object against my banning using my other account with my own name, the banning of my IP was extended to a week with a very loud accusation of puppetry and bringing erroneously translated clauses again from articles which do not exist in the wiki as reference. There were even such ridiculous statements as I have a hide IP soft here if you need which where preferred to be neglected. When one of the other participants said what if she is disappointed and decide not to come back, she has done in two weeks more than others in their whole wikilife time. The answer was good riddance. I had translated already the new version of About WIkipedia, however instead of referring the already existing files the admins again prefer to make quotations from English wiki, shutting down any attempt to object with such demagogy and stormy statements taking almost as long paragraphs as this one is, that anybody watching from aside will loose the logic of sequence of statements.
In the discussion forum have been me and three admins only, whereas they claim everybody, community community. When two other participants started to object for my points and demand to reopen my accounts they were also been shut down.
There are open statements in the discussions about censorship, about deleting articles which they think do not deserve to being, about not allowing or the undesirability of stupid newcomers, because FINALLY we are on our own and if more people come in then the quality of articles will AGAIN go down. But WE DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH RESOURCES for clean up. Last summer they had organized what they call a COMMUNITY CLEAN UP WEEKEND erasing articles which they think have no right to exist and obviously people coming back and not finding what they had started once are disappointed and pushed away.
My confrontation began when I protested against some of the articles that I had started being erased. I know the rules I cannot be cheated but the templates placed under the erased articles are so offending and threatening like THIS ARTICLE HAS BEEN ERASED BECAUSE OF INCONSISTENCY WITH WIKIPEDIA OBJECTIVES AND STANDARDS. YOU SHOULD RECONSIDER THE EXPEDIENCY OF RESTARTING IT. which even for me sounded frightening. I could bring pages of such facts but I do not want to bother you more than I have already done. So there is neither policy nor even corresponding article for applying for adminship and all references and links are bringing to the English wiki. So you see it is a vicious circle. --91.103.31.11 (talk) 06:40, 15 April 2010 (UTC) --Lilit Gabyan (talk) 12:02, 15 April 2010 (UTC) (Sorry for taking so much of you time)[reply]
I am really sorry I have bothered you with this. This way or that way I will have to edit for a while without adminship. I will simply shut up and continue doing what I have planned and in a couple of months we shall see. In any case thank you very much for reading all this and sorry for the bother.--Lilit Gabyan (talk) 20:19, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: An Admin Power Abuse question

[edit]

Thank you very much Angela. Now Zara_arush is launching a true Salem witch hunt or public enemy number 1 campaign against me and another editor with whom I have barely exchanged a couple of sentences in the site and who has dared to express opinion against possible admin power abuse. Frankly I am giving up for now and I will need a lot of strength to overcome the disappointment,if ever.Lilit Gabyan (talk) 23:00, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
