Your signature

My guess would be that you've not checked the "Raw signature" button in your preferences. Try that and see what happens. :) GlassCobra 05:56, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Right, I forgot to mention that. It should come out really pretty. Pink and gold. BoL 06:04, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks to both of you, it seems to work now ;) AmandaT/C 21:05, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Not a problem. Feel free to ask me if you have any more questions! GlassCobra 21:07, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Well as you can see, User:Phaedriel is actually the genius behind my userpage; I myself have no coding ability whatsoever, haha. Unfortunately, our dear Phaedriel has been missing since September. In the meantime, I would highly recommend you take a peek over at Wikipedia:User Page Design Center. Good luck! GlassCobra 22:02, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Hey, really quick, Phaedriel's not a big fan of swearing. Again, she's gone, so she likely won't see your message for a while, we still like to respect her talk page. Would you mind fixing it up just a little bit? :) GlassCobra 06:32, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Looks good, thanks a lot. :) Okay, I'm off to bed as I have work first thing tomorrow, but my door is always open if you need help or have a question. Good luck with everything! GlassCobra 06:38, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi Jameson, I saw you put some tags or whatever they are called here on the page I just created about Leif Lampater. Those tags basically all said that the information I provided was not sourced, but I guess you didnt see the external links I added to the article. All the information is from those websites and thus it is sourced. Sorry I am pretty new here and I have only been checking Wikipedia out for a few days before I signed up, but I think I did a pretty good job there as well as in the other articles I edited and created so far. If I am doing something wrong, please let me know. Amanda AmandaPirato (talk) 03:08, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Amanda, don't worry about that. I don't believe the article was marked for deletion, and the tags are only "pointers", if you want to call it that, for other editors so they can focus on fixing those problems. Please check out Wikipedia's policies on external links (WP:EL), citing sources (WP:CITE), and (WP:RS) for further reference.
Now that I get the standard "just read blah blah blah" message out of the way...lol, I think you did a pretty good job with the article myself. However, you need a "Reference" section, an automatically generated reference list {{reflist}}, and in-line citations. An article with only external links and no reference sections generally come off as either a self-promotion article or some form of advertising, rather than a meaningful display of facts. Think of it as writing a term paper (yeah... unfortunately...) and you have to use those little flash cards from when you were in high school to summarize the facts of the paper with where exactly you got the information from in MLA, APA, or some other proper citation format.
Another thing, the list of career highlights looks very professional, but I'm going to tag it with {{prose}} because the list of accomplishments can be easily broken down into written sections, so it looks less of a timeline and more of an encyclopedia article! :-)
I hope this helps, let me know if you have any further questions. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 08:55, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Your userpages

I also have userboxes available over at my old account, as well as here. Cheers, BoL 01:47, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey, thanks again. I have been doing some research and just created myself a menu. Those userboxes I will add later on I guess. I think these are the most relevant menu options I saw on other profiles that I will probably going to use in the upcoming period, what do you think? I am not really sure what the other things are you added to my user page, so a small explanation would be interesting :) AmandaT/C 01:51, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
You may want to check out my userpage, it's kinda crappy with a very small minibrowser that doesn't do much. Other's userpages are pretty interesting, and if you need help, you can go here. It's still under construction, but I think that's better than nothing, but the Userpage design center's better. Check it out! BoL 02:07, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
I've also helped you set up automated archiving, so a bot'll come here and move all these talk to an archive in 14 days! Happy editing! BoL 02:12, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for that, I will check it out... I was checking yours before indeed, I guess it's a bit messy ;) BTW I tried to sign your guestbook (Nice idea), but I wasn't able to as I could only view the source, but not able to edit the page. AmandaT/C 02:13, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
The servers are back up. Sometimes this happens because there may be maitenance issues, especially because Wikimedia Foundation's moving to San Francisco, so I have a feeling this'll happen more often. BoL 02:16, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Allright, so I should be doing that later on then? No problem. AmandaT/C 02:18, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Doesn't really matter. If you want, you can go improve something, or go hunt for vandals. BoL 02:27, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm actually working on a first start on my own biography, so people know who they are dealing with. AmandaT/C 02:29, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Yep, more power to you.
importScript('User:AzaToth/twinkle.js');

importScript('User:Ioeth/friendly.js'); These'll be available for use in 4 days. One reverts, warns, CSD, PROD, and ARVs. ARV means to write people up and have them blocked by a sysop. The other one's a tagging and welcoming template. BoL 02:34, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

OK, thanks again, I guess ;) I don't know why I would like to delete something? AmandaT/C 02:41, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
There are spammers who'll try to promote themselves here. You can nominate them for deletion, not actually delete them. And to install the scripts, go here. BoL 02:50, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
OK I understand. Well, I will be checking it out in a few days then, when I'm able to use it ;) AmandaT/C 02:56, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
There is one tool you can use: importscript('User:Lupin/popups.js'); . I'm busy right now because most of the users are mediating about this new rollback feature, so no one's looking for spamming or vandals. BoL 02:58, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Checking in

Hey there, just wanted to drop by and see how you were doing. Everything going alright? :) GlassCobra 16:26, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Hey, yes everything is ok actually. Well there was this user that was placing a tag on an article that I created and I asked him for a clarification about what and more specifically why he did that. I also told him that if like in his opinion there were these "peacock terms" the article was small enough that he could have changed them himself instead of adding such a tag. Anyways, he deleted my question from his talk page and after I asked him the question again and additionally told him in a friendly way that he was being rude to delete my question he did it again. I removed the tag from the article and he did not place it back, so I guess all is just fine by now, but it was an unpleasant situation I guess. AmandaT/C 18:11, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Alright, well glad to hear that the situation got worked out. :) Let me know if you have any more questions or problems! GlassCobra 17:31, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

...you're welcome. i'm glad i met the guy but who would've known it was gonna be the last. RIP :(

i have my own database on certain fighters. originally i was gonna run a website like www.boxrec.com for kickboxers but got involved in promotional level of the sport. so i just edit here once awhile, add stats etc. u take care. (Marty Rockatansky (talk) 22:34, 10 February 2008 (UTC))

Omnium

Hi there. On Wikipedia:Categorization and subcategories, it says, In straightforward cases an article should not be in both a category and its subcategory. As such, articles don't tend to need to be in Category:Track cycling and Category:Cycle racing as Category:Track cycling is a subcategory of Category:Cycle racing. Hope this helps, if you have more questions don't hesitate to ask. SeveroTC 10:31, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Wiki software

I'm sorry, I wasn't ignoring you, I haven't been active much the past few days. In regards to your question, Wikipedia uses a type of wiki software called MediaWiki. You can see that several other large wikis use it as well. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if this type of software can be run offline. What you should probably do is ask for a bit more information at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Computing, they'll most likely be able to help you. Sorry if you thought I was ignoring you. :) GlassCobra 21:22, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Baseball

Hi Amanda, to my delight I saw you added several Dutch baseball players here. I have done a lot of work on baseball and softball on wiki-nl and like to notify you of the Dutch articles you might enjoy translating perhaps. An extensive list of Dutch baseball internationals can be found here; the category of baseball players on wiki-nl is here. Let me know if you need more links. Kind regards, MoiraMoira (talk) 11:22, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I just worked on those who qualified for the Olympics, but perhaps in the future I will have a look at others too. AmandaT/C 11:34, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Well done

Awarded to Amanda Pirato for hard work on 2008 Olympics articles. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:11, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Award

The Working Woman's Barnstar
I, Darwinek, hereby award you this barnstar for your hard work during the 2008 Olympic Games. Your devoted work in creating new Olympic articles, as well as updating the old ones was a major help to the project. :) Darwinek (talk) 12:24, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Baseball ref bullpen

BTW, did you have a specific article in mind when you asked me about Baseball-Reference bullpen? I'm happy to work with you if you want to rebuild an article I might have stubbed. —Wknight94 (talk) 13:30, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

You stubbed the article of Bryan Engelhardt, but in that case it would be about pretty much all the Dutch Olympic baseball players that can be found at Netherlands at the 2008 Summer Olympics. I think most of the info can be found at the Honkbalsite website, however it is in Dutch though, so probably hard to understand for you. AmandaT/C 13:38, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Well, by all means, if any or all of the content I removed can actually be cited by a reliable source - Dutch or not - please feel free. I've been removing massive amounts of content cited by baseball ref bullpen, and I'll admit that I haven't looked for better sources. As long as baseball ref bullpen isn't inside the <ref> </ref> tags (and I've been removing it as an external link as well), I'm happy. —Wknight94 (talk) 15:16, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Got it, and that's why I said I would give it another look at some point, but right now I am working on some other things first, so we will see what happens and when ;) Thanks for coming back to me though. AmandaT/C 15:20, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey there :) I left the guy a final warning; if he adds the link again and I don't see it, drop me a another line, okay? Hope everything's going well for you. :D GlassCobra 14:24, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Edits reverted and IP warned. :) GlassCobra 15:51, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
You know it. ;) GlassCobra 15:54, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Athletics

Hi, when creating athlete articles please use the IAAF profile. It is rendered by writing *{{iaaf name|id=athlete number, for instance 179795}}, you'll find the bios via the IAAF site. Athlete bios should really link to the IAAF profile, because it's the most comprehensive, standardized and good source. By the way I submitted Ronald Pognon for DYK. Punkmorten (talk) 07:46, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

See T:DYKT (cryptic link, yes). It's some kind of an honor :) Punkmorten (talk) 12:42, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Dariusz Kuc

Thanks for the heads up. The deleted content concerned an unrelated and less notable cinematographer which was actually created over a redirect to the sprinter which is clear what should be there. Thanks for fixing it. Eluchil404 (talk) 07:00, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

The IP's been blocked for a while. Hopefully that'll keep him from coming back. :) GlassCobra 00:11, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Haha! Well you can email me if you like. :) GlassCobra 02:05, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Birthplaces

Hi Amanda! :) It is an eternal problem here. Many times during my years on wikipedia I saw this double-birthplace confusion. It is one of just a few cases I often trust unsourced wiki. Why? The global portals like the IAAF, Olympics or other sport federation websites often give the nearest large city as a birthplace. Most notoriously I witnessed it with Russian sportspeople, who've been actually born in some smaller town, village, but the Beijing or IAAF portal gave Moscow and other big cities as their birthplace. I would recommend deeper search on the internet whenever some doubts will appear. Cheers. :) - Darwinek (talk) 09:32, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

I referenced it and will surely believe more the French Olympic Committee, than the global IAAF. :) - Darwinek (talk) 09:46, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
I've noticed that, too. :) I have my own schedule by which I check the Olympic articles. By the way. When you will create new articles, remember to check always what-links-here link. Some athletes competed at the previous Olympics, too, but they don't have it on their record on Beijing2008 website. - Darwinek (talk) 13:58, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

DYK

Updated DYK query On 3 September, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Ronald Pognon, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Élodie Ouédraogo

Hi AmandaPirato, you placed an image on wikimedia commons which you defined as 'Élodie Ouédraogo', taken from an original picture with Belgian athlete Hanna Mariën on it. In reality this picture you started doesn't show Élodie Ouédraogo, but French athlete Thélia Sigère (see also the discussion page of Élodie Ouédraogo on the Dutch wikipedia). Please take steps to correct this mistake. Thanks in advance.--Piet.Wijker (talk) 21:16, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
