The Untold History of Japanese Game Developers
Im looking into sprucing up the Mega Man (DOS) page and one article said that there is an interview with the developer in one of the volumes. Since you declared to have volume 1 and 2, can I get it from you to source? GamerPro64 23:00, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

WP:COMMONNAME
After searching the internet, specifying as much as possible to avoid reviews and articles of the Ace Attorney series mentioning the word "great".
- The Great Ace Attorney 2015 nets 23,600,000 results;
- Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2015 nets 142,000 results;
- The Great Ace Attorney 2017 nets 26,400,000 results;
- Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2017 nets 154,000 results;
- Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2 2017 nets 188,000 results;
- The Great Ace Attorney 2 2017 nets 12,000,000 results;
- Dai Gyakuten Saiban on its own nets 270,000 results;
- Naruhodō Ryūnosuke no Bōken on its own nets 17,300 results;
- Naruhodō Ryūnosuke no Kakugo on its own nets 65,700 results;
Like with Ace Attorney Investigations 2, I would say The Great Ace Attorney and 2 are very much the WP:COMMONNAMEs in English and a few other non-Japanese languages.
How can I officially have this determined? KMWeiland (talk) 15:46, 29 April 2020 (UTC)
- Essentially, what we wanna look at is how it is referred to in English-language reliable sources independent of the game and its developer - we have a list of such sources on WP:VG/RS - and see if one variant is clearly more common. As an aside, your search results seem off compared to mine, and I must ask if you made sure to enclose the titles in quotation marks, to only search for them as phrases - when I google "The Great Ace Attorney", I get 53,300 results, and when I search for "Dai Gyakuten Saiban" I get 198,000.--AlexandraIDV 17:15, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
- @KMWeiland: (forgot to ping you)--AlexandraIDV 17:16, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

I was wondering if you would want to review either Yoichi Wada Or Ryuji Sasai as we get ever closer to 100 Final Fantasy GA’s and 200 Square Enix GA’s! If you have time. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 02:07, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Judgesurreal777: I'll take a closer look at them tonight, but I just wanted to point out that Sasai's article uses his VGMO biography as a source, which WP:VG/RS calls an unreliable portion of that site.--AlexandraIDV 10:44, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
- Sigh, thanks for catching that. I’ll probably withdraw that and nominate a different one then. So Wada if your interested. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 14:25, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

Re: Dogeza de Tanondemita format
Read your feedback in Revision History; the formatting doesn't reflect serialization, hence my initial edit. It's the "perfect storm" of a volume=1 + first param in the animanga infobox without a corresponding 'magazine' and/or 'last' param. That combo shows up in the which is what I'm currently working my way through. Feel free to handle as you see fit, but if you have an entry in the 'magazine' param, the flag should go away - the other way to get rid of it is to shift the whole thing to 'published' and leave first, last, magazine all blank. Would the original article title serve as the magazine? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lawaspirant5580 (talk • contribs) 03:52, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Lawaspirant5580: Well - it wasn't published in a self-titled magazine, and I don't want to be misleading to readers for the sake of a pretty back-end. I think that if we cannot change the template to "allow" the current format used in the DdT article (as the correct data for that manga has been entered), we should add another parameter, titled something like "web serialization" (only for web originals), that checks the same box as the magazine paramter. I am not an expert on editing complex templates, so I don't know if I'm the right woman for the job, but I think that might be a good option.--AlexandraIDV 12:07, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- Oof, now you're talking way above my knowledge base. One of the reasons I was working through these flags was to get more experience in complex/nested templates; adding new bits to one is intimidating. I note from the article that the manga release(s) could be interpreted as two-fold: the initial webcomic, and then the print (MF Comics) release. Since the infobox reflects the webcomic, perhaps the 'magazine' could just be Twitter. Alternately, if the manga infobox should more propertly reflect the paper release, then the magazine could just be self-titled. I guess there's another easy "fix": if this is no longer an ongoing release then the "last" parameter could be filled in and that should also resolve the flag. I intend to play around with more articles in this sphere for the next few days. I'll watch for other web-generated content and see how those references are handled - maybe there's another way to code it that doesn't hit that combination. Lawaspirant5580 (talk) 13:41, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
- "Unfortunately" it is still an on-going series, although I imagine a second volume will be released soon-ish to coincide with the anime adaptation, so maybe it won't be an issue on the backend regardless for very long.--AlexandraIDV 20:01, 6 August 2020 (UTC)

GA?
I don't have too much experience with gaming GAs with the exception of The King of Fighters XI and the conomination I had to make .hack//G.U.. I aim to make The King of Fighters XIV GA but I'm not confident about it. If you had the time, could you give it a look? I am more used to making GA characters like the ones from Devil May Cry or Sega's Takayuki Yagami. By the way, I tried assisting in the Megaman 8 review but I can't find that other Capcom Unity source. Anyway, happy editing.Tintor2 (talk) 16:54, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

- @Tintor2: I took a quick look, and I think it looks pretty good overall; one thing is that DualShockers is considered unreliable per WP:VG/RS and should be replaced with another source.--AlexandraIDV 00:21, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

Help with Swedish
Hey, Alexandra! I was told you're Swedish and could potentially help me with this. I'm preparing an article for Serious Sam's Bogus Detour and stumbled over a podcast[1] with Jochum Skoglund, the game's designer. The entire piece is in Swedish, which I don't speak one word of. It appears that the relevant bit begins at the 40:00 mark, so there would be about 13 minutes of audio to evaluate. Do you think you could extract the relevant information about the game and its development from that for me? Regards, IceWelder [✉] 11:43, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- Sure, I'll give it a listen tonight.--AlexandraIDV 16:27, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- @IceWelder: So this begins ~5 minutes before the time code you mentioned (I listened through the entire thing from the start):
- Skoglund and Crackshell have a game design philosophy of making games where you can learn how the game and its levels are set up and become increasingly good and fast at it as you replay the game over and over. He contrasts this with roguelikes, a genre he dislikes for their randomly generated levels.
- They got the opportunity to work on a Serious Sam game through an Easter egg in the desert expansion for Hammerwatch: Skoglund liked to put references to old media that he likes in the games he works on, so they put in "one of those headless kamikaze guys" from Serious Sam. When examining the possibility of turning the Easter egg official, he got hold of the Croteam CEO [Skoglund doesn't mention the CEO's name] through friends at previous game studios he had worked at. The CEO had played Hammerwatch and liked it, and gave Crackshell free reign to use Serious Sam multimedia assets for this. The Croteam CEO liked the crossover, and while talking about it Skoglund asked if he could pitch a game idea to Croteam.
- Skoglund and one artist at Crackshell put together a tech demo titled "2D, Seriously?" featuring a top-down Serious Sam character and some basic environment details. Other working titles it went through included "Serious Top-Down" and "Serious Sam 2D".
- Skoglund sent a screenshot of the demo to the Croteam CEO while working on it, who "loved it" and sent them a contract to develop a full game based on it.
- Skoglund thought it was fun to work on someone else's IP and to have access to all the Serious Sam and The Talos Principle assets in the development including audio, visuals and the Serious Sam game engine, and liked how material and ideas from The Talos Principle, which was made as an experiment during the Serious Sam 4 development, could be used in another Serious Sam project.
- Skoglund notes that the Serious Sam series has a lot of hardcore fans, especially "older gamers" in eastern Europe, which made it fun to pepper Bogus Detour with fan service/references to previous games
- Skoglund wanted to show Croteam that Crackshell had taken the project seriously and wanted to deliver a good take on the series that feels substantial. Hopes to be able to use the game to get to work on other IPs he's a fan of in the future such as Syndicate. Notes that the Syndicate IP holder EA is too big to work on small projects like a Syndicate game, where game planning on their scale could alone outweigh what one could hope to make on a small game, and that small indie studios could work on those IPs more efficiently. Names The Chaos Engine, Commandos and Hexen as other IPs he'd like to work on.
- Crackshell also wants to create their own IPs and makes a lot of prototypes. Skoglund wants to expand the company a little bit so they can develop an FPS, but not by too much (at time of recording, there were 5 employees). He wants to remain hands-on with the development and not take on a producer role, which he thinks might be inevitable if they grow too much.
- --AlexandraIDV 23:12, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- Amazing, thank you so much! I added most of what you provided to the development section. I left out the first and last bullet points, as I'm not sure how relevant they are to Bogus Detour specifically. They would be a perfect fit for an eventual Crackshell article, though. I've been editing the series' article in the past weeks and got the mc [Kamui Shiro]] to GA. Now I'm trying with Subaru Sumeragi and if possible, could you also give it a look if you have the time? Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 16:03, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Tintor2: I'm completely unfamiliar with this series, but I'll look over the article later (feel free to ping me if I'm not back in a few days).--AlexandraIDV 16:06, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Technocracy: Void Engineers
Technocracy: Void Engineers had a review in Arcane #7, but was deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Technocracy: Void Engineers because no other reviews were found; it could be restored if there were more reviews, though. BOZ (talk) 23:22, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
- @BOZ: Mm, there's a brief preview of it in Casus Belli #93, but that's all I've been able to find so far, which isn't enough to satisfy the GNG. Unless we find more coverage (which would unfortunately probably be in print magazines that I don't have access to), the way to go might be to write an article about the Technocracy / Convention Book series as a whole (which I wouldn't be opposed to).--AlexandraIDV 23:32, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

The Deletion to Quality Award | ||
For your contributions to bring Pretty Princess Party (prior candidate for deletion at: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pretty Princess Party) to Good Article status, I hereby present you The Deletion to Quality Award. Congratulations on this rare accomplishment, and thanks for all you do for Wikipedia's readers! (Oinkers42) (talk) 18:09, 30 December 2020 (UTC) |
- Seconded, I stumbled upon all that well after the fact, and was quite impressed with how you turned it all around! Sergecross73 msg me 18:11, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
- Haha, yeah, it's the kind of limited-scope article that is quite easy to write to GA level - it was completely unintentional, and just sort of happened while I was demonstrating how it meets GNG.--AlexandraIDV 18:31, 30 December 2020 (UTC)
