Question from Anthony Louiz on User:Anthony Louiz (17:04, 21 April 2024)

Hello how do i share my knowledge here --Anthony Louiz (talk) 17:04, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

Check out the links at w-graphical! Aaron Liu (talk) 17:13, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

Question from Komidano (18:30, 28 April 2024)

Hi there, are you able to help me build a userpage? --Komidano (talk) 18:30, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

Sure! You can browse through Wikipedia:Userboxes/Galleries and the Wikipedia:User page design guide to get started. Aaron Liu (talk) 18:43, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

Question from ArthurTheGardener (12:32, 1 May 2024)

Hello there! I've created an article in my sandbox. Would you mind having a look at it, please? Any thoughts from you would be very welcome. --ArthurTheGardener (talk) 12:32, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

I'll take a look in a few hours, thanks! Aaron Liu (talk) 12:53, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you so much for this, and for your amendments. I'm not sure what to do now. Am I allowed to post it live, or does it need to be submitted somewhere for approval? ArthurTheGardener (talk) 15:21, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
I'm not done reviewing it yet, though I feel like the article would survive if you simply moved it into mainspace. Aaron Liu (talk) 15:23, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you - I wasn't sure what the process was. (And I'm sorry for my impatience - of course I'll wait until you've had time to look at it all!) ArthurTheGardener (talk) 15:25, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
Well, technically speaking, the process is just creating the page in main space and hoping it won't be deleted. But, as you've done, it is indeed best practice for new editors to ask someone else to look over their draft. Aaron Liu (talk) 17:14, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you: I appreciate your advice. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 17:16, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
I have some slight concerns over including the location in the bibliography, but there actually aren't any guidelines on using that parameter. I'd like to see some more actual reviews, but that can always be added after the article is created.
Wouldn't you like to do the honors of moving the article into mainspace? Aaron Liu (talk) 23:32, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
If you think it's ready, then yes, I'd like that. Thanks for all your help. Do I copypaste the code onto the new page, or is there a shortcut, please? ArthurTheGardener (talk) 07:20, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
Under "Tools", there should be a "Move" button. Aaron Liu (talk) 10:54, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you! ArthurTheGardener (talk) 11:10, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
One more thing (the very last one of this topic, I promise!): I've moved the page, but I'm not sure if I've cleaned up properly afterwards. Would you mind please checking at some point, please, and if necessary, telling me what more I need to do? ArthurTheGardener (talk) 11:24, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
You could find and add some real reviews (preferably reviewers and outlets who have their own article), and write up a WP:DYK blurb before next Tuesday. Aaron Liu (talk) 11:41, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
I'l certainly try, thank you. And thanks for all your help in this. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 11:46, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
Just one last question, please: I now have a redirect box to the article I put into mainspace in my sandbox. Should I delete this, or is it meant to stay there? ArthurTheGardener (talk) 14:35, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
You can do anything with your sandbox as you want. Aaron Liu (talk) 14:43, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
Okay, thanks: just as long as it doesn't affect the mainspace article.! ArthurTheGardener (talk) 14:57, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
Yep! Aaron Liu (talk) 14:58, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from ᎤᏁᎦᏓ (05:46, 2 May 2024)

Howdy Aaron. I'd like to know who wrote a specific line in an article. How can I do that? --ᎤᏁᎦᏓ (talk) 05:46, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

You've come to the right place! The easiest way would be mw:Who Wrote That?, an intuitive browser extension that only works on articles. Otherwise, under "View history", there's a "Find addition/removal" tool. Note to not hold the edit against that person too much! Aaron Liu (talk) 11:00, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from Sayeed30 (14:46, 5 May 2024)

Hi Aaron, Hope you are doing fine! I'm passionate travellers and writer experience of traveling --Sayeed30 (talk) 14:46, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

Thanks, I am indeed very fine! Did you have a question? Aaron Liu (talk) 15:13, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from ArthurTheGardener (14:58, 5 May 2024)

Hi Aaron, Concerning the photo on the Jendia Gammon page: one of my Facebook friends has a picture of her he took himself at a bookshop reading. He doesn't have a wiki account, though. If he gives me the rights to the picture, am I allowed to upload it and use it on the page, please? --ArthurTheGardener (talk) 14:58, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

That depends. According to c:Commons:Photographs of identifiable people, photographs of identifiable people only don't require their permission if it was taken at a public place.
So yeah, you're probably allowed to, unless the bookshop reading took place at a private place. You can ask your friend if he would like to publish under CC-BY-SA 4.0, then upload the image yourself as a freely-licensed file, and put your friend's name as the author. Aaron Liu (talk) 15:22, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you, I'll see if that works. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 15:21, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from R von Greyfork on Green Man (folklore) (21:05, 5 May 2024)

Hello there!!

How can I add an image or illustration under gallery?

Thank you

R. von Greyfork --R von Greyfork (talk) 21:05, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

Hey! If you mean adding an image Wikimedia already has under an actual gallery or gallery section, you can simply double click on the images inside the gallery. If you want to upload an image, check out the guide at Help:Upload or Help:Introduction to images with VisualEditor/1! Aaron Liu (talk) 21:46, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

Book page

Hi Aaron, I've been working on my first attempt at a book page (in my sandbox). I'm hoping it isn't too essay-like, and I've tried to include citations where possible, but when you have time, I'd love to hear if you think I'm on the right track. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 16:21, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

It doesn't seem essay-like to me, at least not at a first glance. Congratulations on that!
However, the first issue I've noticed is that the plot summary is wayy too long. MOS:PLOTLENGTH summarizes guidance; novels are recommended to not exceed 700 words, and yours is probably quadruple that. You also don't need to cite the plot, unless part of it is up to great interpretation as to what actually happened.
The "Structure" section is probably too short to stand alone; I'd say it should be merged into "Plot". Same goes for the pattern, which should probably be merged into "Themes". Yeah, it's not exactly the same kind of theme, but... hey. (Also, even if it were a separate section, I'd put it before the reception section to bunch the information about the book itself together.) Per MOS:NOBACKREF, the Scent section should probably just be called "Scent". I also want to merge it but can't find a good place to, so let's leave it alone.
I'd recommend you summarize the reception a bit (probably something like "praised for its prose and being 'evocative'" with certain quotes singled out (probably that of the Sunday and either Irish or Lancashire). I also wonder why you used a blockquote for the picture (‽) and used none of them for the reception.
Speaking of the picture... on Wikipedia, media is usually added right before the start of the relevant paragraph, so that you can look at it while reading the relevant information.
Now, let's talk about citation style. Not Wikipedia:Citation style, but stuff like WP:REFPUNCT. Citations should be put after everything they cover; don't put one before and call it a day; that makes the following part actually covered by the citation look unreferenced. The exception to this is blockquotes, where you put a citation after the colon. (Inline quotes still follow regular rules.)
Finally, for the purposes of user CSS customizabillytee or something, hatnotes should be made using some derivative of the hatnote template: in this case, for. Aaron Liu (talk) 17:38, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you: this is all very helpful. I have to say I was concerned about the length of the plot description too, but I'd read somewhere that it had to be a full account, and not just a teaser - and this book has so much plot! I'll have another try. And thanks for clarifying about the citations - it makes a lot of sense. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 08:59, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
Hi Aaron, I've pruned the Plot section of the Strawberry Thief page to bring it to about 600 words, added a hatnote and followed your advice about block quotes, citations and reviews, as well as amalgamating the Morris and Scent sections under "Themes." It feels tighter to me now, but I'd appreciate any further feedback you could give me whenever you have a moment to spare. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 16:15, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
Hi Aaron, Thank you for doing this; it feels a lot clearer to me now, and I appreciate your time. I've been trying to find a non-primary source for the author testimonials, but apart from the fact that they are printed in the book itself, and on some retailers' pages, including Amazon, I can't find anything I can use. Would it be better to just take them out? ArthurTheGardener (talk) 11:19, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
If we can't find sources, probably. Aaron Liu (talk) 13:41, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
I think I've found a couple that work, thanks: I have inserted them. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 15:10, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
Is it okay for me to transfer the article into mainspace now, please? ArthurTheGardener (talk) 08:42, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
Bold the first occurrence of the title and we should be ready to go. Aaron Liu (talk) 10:54, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
Will do, thanks. And once more, I appreciate all your help on this. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 14:39, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from ArthurTheGardener (14:51, 14 May 2024)

Hi Aaron, Sorry to bother you again, but I seem to have messed up my redirect - don't ask me how, I seem to have created a page called "The Strawberry" (novel) as well as the one I was meant to be moving into mainspace, and I don't seem to be able to revert it. Could you help, please? --ArthurTheGardener (talk) 14:51, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

No worries! Go to Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests, and ask to move The Strawberry (novel) to The Strawberry Thief without a redirect. Aaron Liu (talk) 15:03, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you: I'll give it a try. Completely my fault - I overlooked the typo in the submission box! ArthurTheGardener (talk) 15:10, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

One last thing

Hi Aaron, I'm aware that I've taken more than my fair share of your time, but I'm trying my hand at a different kind of page (in my sandbox) and I'd appreciate it if you could have a look whenever you can. After that I think I might have the confidence to go it alone! ArthurTheGardener (talk) 13:04, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Don't worry, as your mentor, nearly any requests are worth my time! Not sure why you're writing a flower article lol but I'll take a look Aaron Liu (talk) 13:10, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
As it stands, the article is maybe too technical and I can hardly understand it. Wikipedia articles are mostly written in prose. You also don't want to just copy text from a source.
Maybe the better people to ask are at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Plants. Aaron Liu (talk) 13:18, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you so much: I enjoy botany as well as books! I've been editing some of the other calendula pages, and I noticed this one didn't yet have an article. I'll take another look at the wording and simplify it (although the other calendula articles seem to be in much the same style). Thanks for the headsup about Wikiplants: I'll have a chat to them as well. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 13:40, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from Maphoka on User:Maphoka (18:50, 16 May 2024)

My beauty is my identity

Our skin is our priority Maphoka (talk) 18:54, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Erm, what is all this? What publishing? Also, you should come to expect processes on Wikipedia to take some time (though not more than a day). We're not an instant messaging service. Aaron Liu (talk) 19:11, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from ArthurTheGardener (16:08, 17 May 2024)

Hello Aaron, I've still not completely understood how to move a page from mainspace without making a mistake: in this case, I think I've somehow created a user page for a nonexistent user named after a species of lilac. Is there a way to change this, please? And I'm still not sure what to do about the redirect links: should they be on the page, too, please? --ArthurTheGardener (talk) 16:08, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

PS: I meant TO mainspace, of course. I think senility must be creeping in! ArthurTheGardener (talk) 16:09, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
Just like before, you should move the thing to the correct location using the same button and ask WP:RM/T if you can't. To delete redirects that would not be useful at all, you can use db-error or db-g7. Aaron Liu (talk) 20:51, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you. I'll try that. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 22:17, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from Robby Roeplall (13:41, 19 May 2024)

Hi sir Aaron Liu,

I want to make Wikipedia information page for mr. Robby Roeplall so that people can consult his page for information. Can you please help me to initiate this? --Robby Roeplall (talk) 13:41, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Hey, creating an article about WP:YOURSELF is an extremely bad idea per the link in this sentence. I really doubt that you meet our criteria for inclusion. Aaron Liu (talk) 13:46, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from ArthurTheGardener (15:46, 26 May 2024)

Hi Aaron, Today I came across an "invisible comment" for the first time (on a page devoted to the mulberry plant). I can't work out why it's invisible - or what purpose it serves. Can you please clarify? --ArthurTheGardener (talk) 15:46, 26 May 2024 (UTC)

In VisualEditor, you add one by selecting the option under "Insert". In source mode (which I vastly prefer, but you do you!), you add it like <!--this is a comment-->.
These are usually for warning editors to not to make a certain change. On the Morus (plant) page's citations, an empty |author= parameter is used to stop the citation templates from erroring, and a comment is inserted to inform the editors that this is not an error. Aaron Liu (talk) 01:36, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
I see; thanks for satisfying my curiosity! ArthurTheGardener (talk) 19:23, 27 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from ArthurTheGardener (18:58, 30 May 2024)

Hi Aaron, me again, I'm afraid. I've created a draft article Draft:Dogs of War and I realize that I need a disambiguation hatnote, but there are so many other uses of that phrase, and I don't know how to include them all. Could you help, please? ArthurTheGardener (talk) 18:58, 30 May 2024 (UTC)

You can use other uses with the first parameter set to The Dogs of War. Template:Hatnote templates has a list of every hatnote template out there. Aaron Liu (talk) 21:18, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
That's great; thank you. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 09:26, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from Holom07 (14:03, 3 June 2024)

hello --Holom07 (talk) 14:03, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

Hi, how could I help you? Aaron Liu (talk) 14:32, 3 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from ArthurTheGardener (06:42, 8 June 2024)

Hello Aaron, I've had one of my additions to the Joanne Harris page queried with several "failed verification" tags. I was trying to paraphrase the source, rather than quote it directly and risk plagiarism, but obviously I'm not getting the balance right. I'd really appreciate some advice on this if you have a moment to spare. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 06:42, 8 June 2024 (UTC)

The generally rule is basically that if the original source said it best and most concisely, quote it. Though also avoid quoting too much on the source. Looking at the individual tags:
  1. It's difficult to source "widely well-received". To source it, you need a reliable source that actually says she's "widely well-received", or something like that. An easy fix to this is to just change it to "was praised".
  2. I'd recommend replacing to originality part with something like "According to The Guardian, she has attracted 'admirers of Harris's astringent, highly original and often subtly fantastic mainstream novels.'"
  3. I'd recommend replacing "portrayal of 'impending doom'" to "'foreshadowing impending doom'". I also don't see where you got the thing about darkness within communities from. If the source says something like that, I'd recommend adding a quote of the relevant content through the |quote= parameter of the citation templates.
Also, Belbury is correct that you shouldn't use sources connected to the publisher for reception, as these aren't independent. Aaron Liu (talk) 16:10, 8 June 2024 (UTC)
Thank you: that’s really helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to look at it. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 18:18, 8 June 2024 (UTC)

The unprincipled WP:COI tactics got my goat...

...but this is not a newcomer. HyperAccelerated arrived here two and half years ago fully-armed like Athena. This isn't their first trip to the rodeo. Yappy2bhere (talk) 19:19, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

Almost forgot, are you satisfied with your own edit or were you asking that the entire comment be removed? Yappy2bhere (talk) 19:25, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm satisfied by just removing the PA part. They may have started editing earlier, but their second AfD was only in March 2024. Aaron Liu (talk) 19:29, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
Ahh, I see you left bait. Revised; don't want to attract flies. Yappy2bhere (talk) 19:58, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
what
Users are not things to be "baited" on. Your comment also has a link to a relevant policy page, and even if you made some inane pure joke I'd have no reason to remove it. Aaron Liu (talk) 20:11, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
Look pal, you "removed" the offending phrase but deposited a tell-tale that defined it without context as "personal abuse" (which is incorrect and which I vigorously dispute) and which remained as an impossibly enticing lure right back to the phrase that you claimed to want buried. Guess what? it worked. So yeah, bait, and for crissake work on your own WP:AGF. Yappy2bhere (talk) 00:01, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
Your rhetoric confuses me. See you later and thanks for your edits to AdaControl. Aaron Liu (talk) 00:10, 23 June 2024 (UTC)

Personal comment

Regarding this comment: I feel it is being unduly judgmental of the commenter. Perhaps you might consider rewording it? isaacl (talk) 15:57, 23 June 2024 (UTC)

Yeah, I kinda felt that too. I can't figure it out so I'll just remove that part. Thanks. Aaron Liu (talk) 15:59, 23 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from ProfessorMaccaroon on User:Isabelle Belato (15:54, 27 July 2024)

So do all member of wiki like Isabelle Belato delete peoples pages. Or is making a page about the history of jelly and ice cream against Wikipedias goals of global information on all topics? --ProfessorMaccaroon (talk) 15:54, 27 July 2024 (UTC)

Hello! It probably is. There are two things Wikipedians hate most: promotional content and a lack of sources. People usually care much more about the latter: if an article doesn't have many WP:reliable sources, its content may as well be made up. Meanwhile, a lack of secondary sources and an abundance of primary sources could indicate promotional content. These are the primary reasons Wikipedia:Notability exists.
Waqar has sent you a bunch of useful links, including Wikipedia's tutorial "Your first article". I think it would be really helpful if you read it! Cheers, Aaron Liu (talk) 21:40, 27 July 2024 (UTC)

Question from Sheikh Jahidul Hasan Fahim on User:1AmNobody24/CSD log (18:50, 15 August 2024)

How do I write my biography in Wikipedia ? --Sheikh Jahidul Hasan Fahim (talk) 18:50, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

Well, it's heavily advised against. See Help:Your first article § Things to avoid. First of all, you have to meet wp:notability, which means that you have to be the main subject of several articles from wp:reliable sources. Secondly, you have to be terribly unbiased about yourself. If you really want to do this, you can check out the instructions at Help:Your first article. Aaron Liu (talk) 18:57, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from ArthurTheGardener (16:50, 18 August 2024)

Hi Aaron, I wonder if you could advise me, please. I was working on a new page in my sandbox just now, but wasn't able to save it because of an editing conflict. Later I found the message "no cats in draft" from another editor. I'm not sure what this means. Is it because I'd already added categories to my unfinished article? And if so, are there any other restrictions to what I can do in the sandbox, please? --ArthurTheGardener (talk) 16:50, 18 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi! Yes, that’s precisely why. These categories are meant to categorize actual Wikipedia articles, and your draft isn’t an article yet. You can see [1] for an example of the draft categories template in action. Aaron Liu (talk) 17:03, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
I see. Thank you for clarifying that for me. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 08:57, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from ArthurTheGardener (08:56, 22 August 2024)

Hi Aaron, Sorry to bother you again, but I'm not sure what to do. I've received a request via template on my Draft page, which I think is about some early iterations of the page I'm writing, which are in violation of copyright (I was initially working from a convenient existing synopsis, which I have since replaced). I think the request is asking me to remove those early pages - but how do I do that, please? Isn't the fact that they have been overwritten since then enough? (I never meant to leave any part of the disputed material in the final draft). ArthurTheGardener (talk) 08:56, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi! You don't need to do anything except remove the bad parts from the article. The template has been added into the draft, and eventually an admin will come and delete the old revisions that contain the bad parts from the article, which is where they are currently still visible. So, sit back and relax, I guess! Aaron Liu (talk) 12:21, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Okay, thanks, I appreciate that. (There are still so many rules to get my head around that I think I'm just paranoid about getting things wrong!) ArthurTheGardener (talk) 14:38, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Haha, no worries. Good thing we all have people to help! Aaron Liu (talk) 14:58, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Hey man, I want to write an article about a game engine. How do I do that? Do I need to edit some stuff before or? Thank you in advance! --EggStudios0 (talk) 12:08, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

Hey! Help:Your first article has a pretty good guide for this. Like what it says, before you start, you should see if the game engine has good coverage in reliable sources. Aaron Liu (talk) 12:58, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from Ytg Olowo (16:08, 29 August 2024)

How do I create an article for myself --Ytg Olowo (talk) 16:08, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

Hmm, I'm getting this question a lot. Aaron Liu (talk) 17:41, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

Question from ArthurTheGardener (08:27, 30 August 2024)

Hi Aaron, I wonder if you could please explain to me where I've gone wrong. I was advised to stop submitting my articles for creation, and simply to move them directly into mainspace, but I seem to have messed up the process (again). I'd very much appreciate you looking at wikipedia:lupinus exaltatus, if you have a minute, to tell me what I've done wrong, and how to avoid it next time. ArthurTheGardener (talk) 08:27, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

This seems resolved by abductive. Just double check the contents of the "move" dialog before pressing "move page" and you should be fine. Note that the (article) namespace is where you want to move articles to; Wikipedia is for stuff related to contributing to Wikipedia. Aaron Liu (talk) 12:10, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
Thank you so much, Aaron.ArthurTheGardener (talk) 09:24, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from Jagadees puthramannil (12:23, 1 September 2024)

Hello,

My areas of passion include underwater electronics, such as underwater sensors, underwater data collection systems, embedded systems, and buoy development. How can I select these types of topics for discussion and editing purposes? --Jagadees puthramannil (talk) 12:23, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Ey! I'm not exactly sure what you mean by selecting topics, but we do have something called WikiProjects: task forces of editors who all want to contribute to articles about some topic. You can use Wikipedia:WikiProject#Finding a project to search for a Wikiproject! However, your passions are a bit specific, so maybe you'd have to settle for a broader project like WP:SCUBA. Then, you can go to a WikiProject's article categories by quality, such as Category:Stub-Class Underwater diving articles. Happy editing! Aaron Liu (talk) 12:31, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

If Ip doesn't produce anything, then I'd say they're just being disruptive. However, I strongly hope for Ip to produce something that they just misinterpreted. Aaron Liu (talk) 03:43, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
@Aaron Liu is being very useful here by pointing out ways forward and not carrying ill will. I also notice you are seeking all topics I might have been involved and actively posting against whatever I have written or suggested. You are currently now replying negatively to two current RfCs I proposed and have posted on both minutes away from each other.
You are also posting here, on what could be some sort of forum shopping/canvassing, perhaps? I hope I am wrong and that you are not asking @Aaron Liu to punish me just because that's what you wanted and didn't get.
Might I suggest, given you are a very experienced editor, to please Wikipedia:Just drop it.
Thank you for being civil. Have a good day @Objective3000.

I completely disagree with your aspersion assessment. I just re-read Wikipedia:Casting aspersions and it doesnt apply. Yet you keep replying to my comments or suggestions elsewhere, even on articles you havent seem to have edited before.
Please @Objective3000, Wikipedia:Let it go.
The above essay states:
"Discuss things to find consensus, but don't argue just for the sake of making a point. Just let it go." Be the better person, the more experienced and better editor, just let it go.

The articles are on my lengthy watchlist. Please stop these nasty posts. O3000, Ret. (talk) 13:25, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
It's not forum shopping if it's not a forum. It's not uncommon for new accounts' edits to be scrutinized when someone has a suspicion, and you shouldn't be implicitly assuming that other editors carry ill will either. "Just drop it" doesn't mean you should reply to everything telling the other person to drop it; it just means that (ideally both of) you should drop it. Aaron Liu (talk) 13:21, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
Got it.
To show that I can move on I will drop these issues with @Objective3000. I wont reply nor mention them after this message, ever. Like you said, ideally, as per WP established norms, he would do the same.

Question from Shadowfax33 (20:38, 2 September 2024)

Hello, I would like to ask you a question. I m currently working on translating the MS-20 Daglezja page. I have made a lot of progress in translating the page into English however I m stuck with translating the infobox part if you could guide me on how to translate the infobox that would be very much appreciated. --Shadowfax33 (talk) 20:38, 2 September 2024 (UTC)

Hello! Does double-clicking the infobox not work? Could you send me a screenshot? Aaron Liu (talk) 22:06, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
Hello, double-clicking the infobox does work however, I can't change the information or translate it. I m not sure how to send you a screenshot of this issue as I m still learning how to operate on Wikipedia, I m a beginner :)
Shadowfax33 (talk) 14:04, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
You can just upload the screenshot to any platform you'd like. I'd recommend litterbox.moe with a 3-day time limit. Aaron Liu (talk) 15:15, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
Hi, unfortunately, litterbox.moe is not working at my end, therefore I uploaded the screenshot into pinterest here is the link

Okay, I see that you have deleted the original template. Remember all the fields in the original article, then insert a template called infobox weapon. See Tiger I for an example of how to use it. Aaron Liu (talk) 19:48, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
Thanks, I was able to use the {{

I've submitted the page to Articles for creation and moved it. Just wait for a review from someone experienced now. Aaron Liu (talk) 15:24, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
From a quick scan, you probably want to fix the citation errors, make the lede grammatical, and back up "construction details" with sources. Aaron Liu (talk) 15:25, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
Also, according to the English Wikipedia Manual of Style, references should be placed after punctuation. Aaron Liu (talk) 15:30, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for the help. I would not be able to do this without you. Also, thank you for fixing the citation error. I have a question. I just created another article, and I would like to know what is approximately the duration time for a person to review the articles. Shadowfax33 (talk) 16:35, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
You need to submit it through WP:AFC for it to be reviewed. That said, the review time ranges from a week to four months. Aaron Liu (talk) 16:39, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
Okay, thank you for the information Shadowfax33 (talk) 11:16, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
I've moved it again. This time, you should probably try and put the references after punctuation yourself. Aaron Liu (talk) 16:44, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
Could you guide me how I punctuate the references? So in the future, I can do it myself? Shadowfax33 (talk) 11:18, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
Just move punctuation right after a reference to right before the reference instead. Aaron Liu (talk) 11:41, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
Also, you're in luck that you're creating pages for military history. That topic's associated WikiProject is one of the most active groups of editors on Wikipedia, and it seems that Utopes is a dedicated reviewer. Aaron Liu (talk) 22:00, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
That's great to hear, this is the kind of informaiton that will motiaved me to writer more artciles, I will keep this in mind when createing new articles also thank you for helping me out with the punctuation of references Shadowfax33 (talk) 11:29, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

Please undo VPIL bot idea move

Regarding this move of "Idea for a bot" at Village Pump (Idea Lab): A "bot idea" is not a bot request. The editor was proposing to make changes to people's comments and asking feedback on that. That is what people were replying to. Please revert your move. SamuelRiv (talk) 02:53, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

@SamuelRiv The editor said "If you can work it, go ahead.". That seems like requesting a bot to me. Even bots that make changes to comments are requested at bot request. Aaron Liu (talk) 11:58, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
@SamuelRiv I will be moving it back to the place where people who can create bots reside today. Aaron Liu (talk) 10:58, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
It has not the slightest thing to do with creating a bot. The discussion is not about bots. The user who created the thread has not requested this. Why would you do this? SamuelRiv (talk) 13:38, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
It literally says "Idea for a bot": So why don’t we have a bot, that sweeps edits for en.m.wikipedia links, and changes them to en.wikipedia? I’m not a coding guy, so I couldn’t build this myself, Aaron Liu (talk) 14:36, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Pinging @Matticusmadness. Aaron Liu (talk) 15:18, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Yo. Yeah, I remember this. I wouldn’t have a clue if there was consensus for it, or how to chuck together the code for it, so put it in the ideas section. If anyone can gather the consensus for it to exist, then build it, fire away!

Primarily on that I don’t know if Consensus exists for it (I had one person mention it, but that’s it), I’m not requesting said bot, per se, I’m making it an idea, hence, Ideas Lab.

Sorry Aaron, but I agree with Samuel. MM (Give me info.) (Victories) 15:52, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

Burnt toast theory deletion discussion - was my comment in the wrong place?

Hi, I put a comment in the delete discussion for the burnt toast theory, it was removed, I suspect because it was in the wrong place? It appeared to be the place to put it. I think that the deletion should go ahead, and I put this elsewhere, and here, to help the cause. I'm not adept at maneuvering the slightly arcane protocols of Wikipedia. Comments and/or guidance? Thanks for any help in advance. Dr.gregory.retzlaff (talk) 16:13, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi! Your comment was long, irrelevant discussion of the subject itself, which has no bearing over whether to delete, so I removed it per WP:NOTFORUM.
(It was also in the wrong place as it was not a reply, but that's really not a problem. If it were the only thing wrong, I'd just move it to the correct place (a new bullet point at the bottom) instead.) Aaron Liu (talk) 16:25, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
NO. It was relevant - you don't want a WRONG, BS article on Wikipedia do you?? It has all bearing on the deletion. The theory is WRONG. It can be relevant all it wants, but just being relevant is not a sole reason to put an article on Wikipedia; a article about a theory that is wrong. I don't think it was long compared to all the bloated, convoluted discussion and theorizing about whether the theory is "relevant". It appears to have come from a single ticktok posting. Talk about relevance???? Are you all just a bunch of 12 year olds "I must be true, one person on tick tok said it was!!!!!". Just a few days ago a lady from Wikipedia sent me a form email asking if I was going to make another donation. You are making that easy. Dr.gregory.retzlaff (talk) 17:33, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
Because nearly none of us know much about anything, we don't trust ourselves to know what's factual unless we're discussing a source's reliability or the fact in question belongs to a few extremely basic cases; instead, we rely on outside Wikipedia:Reliable sources to determine factuality. AFAIK, no source that repeats your argument exists.
While I half-agree with your opinion on the source, that's just an opinion and therefore falls under Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions#I don't like it, not to mention the extremely similar concept of Blessing in disguise, which I !voted to merge the article into instead of keeping.
Attempting to refute the subject itself is irrelevant to an article's notability (i.e. coverage), which is the only thing that determines whether an article should be deleted. You may notice that we cover hoaxes that have received significant coverage as well. Aaron Liu (talk) 21:45, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from اُسید محمود (12:30, 19 September 2024)

How do i cite in an article --اُسید محمود (talk) 12:30, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

Ey, welcome! I just dropped a bunch of links at your talk page, but for this specific question, you can see Help:Referencing for beginners. Aaron Liu (talk) 13:07, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

CSS class

Regarding this comment: I'm not really sure what you mean by "By query CSS class I mean all userpage links next to timestamps." From what I can see, user page links next to timestamps in signatures are not contained within an HTML element with a common CSS class. (Your favourite highlighting script, as well as the other one mentioned in the thread by name, parses the links on the page to find ones that point to user pages.) As Chaotic Enby stated, the point is that signatures themselves are not impersonation proof. isaacl (talk) 15:24, 24 September 2024 (UTC)

What I mean is that you walk backwards from the "ext-discussiontools-init-timestamplink" class and then do link detection with a heuristic like the scripts do. I agree with Enby that using someone else's signature would be too extreme and a bit unreasonable a case, though I do see what they mean now. Aaron Liu (talk) 16:11, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification. Guess it depends if the reader only wants to know about users whose names appear next to timestamps (usually when signing), or any users that are mentioned and linked in discussions. (Impersonation is an extreme and unreasonable thing to do, but if it's going to happen, that's how it will be done: someone will register a username that's the same except some minor change, like replacing a letter like an o with a nearly indistinguishable doppelganger, and then the signature will be mimicked.) isaacl (talk) 03:40, 25 September 2024 (UTC)

AFD demeanor

Hello, Aaron Liu,

While I appreciate all of your contributions to the project, I'd like you to participate less agressively in AFD deletion discussions. Sometimes you really go after editors whom you disagree with in a way that resembles bludgeoning. Some editors just want to review the nomination statement, the article and its sources and offer their opinion, not enter a debate about it. And editors are not required to respond to questions posed to them and they are less likely to respond if the comments are posted in an accusatory tone. While it is, of course, completely fine to ask an editor to clarify their AFD argument if it is less than clear, I think you need to not to consider AFD discussions as adversarial with a winning side and a losing side. It's a discussion about notability, policy and sources and because the atmosphere can get tense, civility is very important at all times.

I don't mean to discourage your participation in AFDs as I value reading your opinion. It's just I hope you don't pursue editors if you they don't offer an opinion you agree with. Let them have their say and they can move on to participate in another AFD discussion. Thank you again. Liz Read! Talk! 05:15, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Thank you. What do you think about the way I've responded to Clarinetguy after the relist? Aaron Liu (talk) 13:21, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
For one thing, it probably had little impact on the final outcome. Clarinetguy097 (talk) 15:43, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Shadowfax33 (17:28, 28 September 2024)

Hello, I have a question regarding the User page, how can I translate my user page into another language? Do I have to use the translation page tool which is used to translate articles? --Shadowfax33 (talk) 17:28, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

No, the translation tool can only be used for articles. Admittedly, information on translating user pages is somewhat obscure, but here's how to do it:
  1. Manually create your user page in the other language's wiki. We'll use plwiki (Polish Wikipedia, pl.wikipedia.org) here as an example.
    • That means you have to translate your user page manually, which is just like creating a normal page.
  2. Have your user pages link to each other. That means you'll put pl:User:Shadowfax33 on en:User:Shadowfax33 and en:User:Shadowfax33 on pl:User:Shadowfax33.
I'm not sure if that's clear enough. Feel free to ask if you have any questions! Aaron Liu (talk) 18:39, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
Hi, I did as you said, I added pl:User:Shadowfax33 to en:User:Shadowfax33 page and added en:User:Shadowfax33 on pl:User:Shadowfax33. Thanks for the help :) Shadowfax33 (talk) 16:01, 29 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi - just a comment on your closing of the discussion. While there's clearly a consensus to keep, I do not see that there's a consensus for speedy keep (numerically there were three SKs and four keeps). I made an explicit argument stating why speedy keep should not apply (referencing WP:CSK); ideally your close should indicate how you have assessed the arguments that produced a consensus for speedy keep as against keep. It's not that important an issue, as the result will remain unchanged, but consider that a WP:NAC which involves the application of WP:IAR (which WP:SNOW is a form of) should offer some detail of reasoning. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 04:24, 30 September 2024 (UTC)

Also, a gentle heads up, please be aware not to bold text in closing as it interferes with the AfD stats tool: [2]. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 04:36, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
Got it, thanks. Amended. Aaron Liu (talk) 10:53, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
Sorry to repeat myself, but please don't bold SNOW, it interferes with the AfD Statistics Tool. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 11:34, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification; I thought you meant how I manually unbolded "and". However, the tool correctly recognizes SNOW keeps (see "The wrong kind of snow") but lists them as speedy keeps. This is apparently intended behavior, and I do believe bolding the SNOW is a useful distinction. Aaron Liu (talk) 12:54, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
@Goldsztajn In fact, it was added like that because of a user request, despite Wikipedia:Speedy keep#What is not a speedy-keep. Aaron Liu (talk) 12:56, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
I became aware of that too just now! Unfortunately, it is out of alignment with the guideline. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 14:23, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
Well, that's an upstream bug. I'll revert this for now. One of their maintainers (apparently @0xDeadbeef, @Enterprisey, and @Legoktm) can add a separate row/column for SNOW later. Aaron Liu (talk) 17:19, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
Sorry, can you clarify what's wrong with the tool and what needs fixing? Legoktm (talk) 17:48, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
The tool currently treats "SNOW" the same as "speedy", which is out of line with the Wikipedia:Speedy keep#What is not a speedy-keep guideline. Aaron Liu (talk) 20:08, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
Aaron Liu, I just saw this AFD. You cast a "vote" here so you were involved. It was inappropriate for you to close this AFD. This closure could easily be contested at Wikipedia:Deletion review. This was not a good closure. Please do not ever close a discussion you are involved in unless you are the nominator and you are withdrawing your nomination. Liz Read! Talk! 06:17, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
Hi @Aaron Liu - I think this has become somewhat contested now, given that you reverted my edit to the closure which I did so that the AfD tools records the outcome properly. Can I request that you to vacate your closure and let it be done by an admin? Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 07:45, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
Fine by me. I was of the impression that overwhelming consensus can still be reflected per all the reasons for SNOW. Also, I still stand by bolding "SNOW"; we should not be altering clarity just because an external tool has a bug. Aaron Liu (talk) 13:37, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
Hi - thanks for reverting. I offer a small piece of unsolicited advice: be conscious that even times where something might seem obvious to you, reasonable people can reach different conclusions. This is particularly the case with NACs. And FWIW, while clearly there's an IAR element to SNOW, it's not something to be used to trump *all* gudielines/convention at the same moment (WP:NACD/WP:NACINV). Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 14:44, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

Accept reason: Based on WP:CHECKUSER technical evidence, I see no reason to believe you are related to that other account. I have lifted the autoblock. If this becomes a problem, please consider requesting WP:IPBE. Again based on the technical data I have in front of me, I think you'd be likely to receive IPBE if necessary. Question from Aman karnake on Mobile device (05:29, 20 October 2024)

An iPhone and iPad - two examples of mobile devices

A mobile device or handheld computer is a computer small enough to hold and operate in hand. Mobile devices are typically battery-powered and possess a flat-panel display and one or more built-in input devices, such as a touchscreen or keypad. Modern mobile devices often emphasize wireless networking, to both the Internet and to other devices in their vicinity, such as headsets or in-car entertainment systems, via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular networks, or near-field communication.[1] --Aman karnake (talk) 05:29, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

Hey, as said on that page, you need to add secondary sources, a.k.a. media coverage. The AfC help desk and teahouse as linked on your talk page can help you with that (as well as the various formatting problems)! Aaron Liu (talk) 11:46, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
Basically, the depth of coverage on everything on Wikipedia is determined by the amount of Wikipedia:Reliable sources available to source the coverage. If there's no secondary sources, then we do (sometimes only nearly) no coverage. The submission you wrote has excess detail and looks more like an advert than an encyclopedic article.
Also, I noticed that you have a previously-blocked account, User:Sdbhosale. Please don't do that. Wikipedia doesn't want blocked editors just escaping their block by creating a new account; instead, it wants them to appeal blocks and know why they've been blocked and what not to do next time. WordPress

Thanks for correcting my mistake, I somehow didn't see it was already covered in the history section. ColinWoodsPot (talk) 01:50, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

No, it's fine. I added that part in the history section after/while reverting your addition lol. Just keep in mind in the future that it's usually better to not have an entire section devoted to criticism! Covering it in an integrated paragraph under history is usually enough. Hope you like this place! Aaron Liu (talk) 01:53, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

Upcoming expiry of your ipblock-exempt right

Hi, this is an automated reminder as part of Global reminder bot to let you know that your WP:IPBE right which gave you the ability to bypass IP address blocks will expire on 16:57, 7 November 2024 (UTC). If your IP is still blocked (which you can test by trying to edit when logged-out), please renew by following the instructions at the IPBE page; otherwise, you do not need to do anything. To opt out of user right expiry notifications, add yourself to m:Global reminder bot/Exclusion. Leaderbot (talk) 07:14, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
