Upgrade of Yuanlin

[edit]

Looks like Yuanlin has been upgraded from an urban township to county-controlled city of Changhua County today. Do you have any reference/source for that? Preferably English language. I'll try to upgrade the other-related info regarding Yuanlin. Thanks a lot. Chongkian (talk) 01:15, 8 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Chongkian, here is the source I found sorry no English available (http://www.ettoday.net/news/20150729/542126.htm#ixzz3i5eN6kNz). — ASDFGH =] talk? 01:20, 8 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh thanks, I think it's enough to get the reference date of 8 August. Well, it looks like the English-version of Yuanlin gov office has changed its name already to Yuanlin City Office (http://www.yuanlin.gov.tw/en/know/main.asp), although not all of its content has followed the upgrade (it takes time to change all of these for sure, especially with the coming typhoon today in Taiwan). :| Chongkian (talk) 01:24, 8 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK, this helps a lot! Do you know if it is possible to extract vector data from that system? By the way, another such question: What is the source of File:1949 PRC map.png?--Antemister (talk) 13:43, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Antemister, the tiles are being served by a Web Map Service (WMS), so it may be possible to export them in another format. I have in the past tackled a similar vector-data extraction exercise, by requesting PDF/SVG from the WMS server—however that brings us to the question of the licence for the data. The chinadataonline.org/asp/agreement.asp doesn't look particularly Wikipedia-friendly (unless I've missed something). —Sladen (talk) 19:06, 8 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I do know as well. For the File:1949 PRC map.png it be on many history of China administrative units atlas maps similar to this one: www.668map.com/overview/china/china_pic/china_1.gif. — ASDFGH =] talk? 19:27, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New Map for THSR after 3 new stations have been opened

[edit]

Hi ASDFGH,

Do you know how to make picture for Wikipedia? Because I think the THSR map (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/File:TaiwanHighSpeedRail_Route_en.gif) in the Wikipedia article (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Taiwan_High_Speed_Rail#History) needs to be updated after 3 new stations have just recently been opened, making it 11 stations in total. The map still show 8 stations in operation. Thanks. Chongkian (talk) 01:20, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello ASDFGH, please try to choose a vendor neutral name when adding entries to Template:rail-interchange; for the moment I've reverted this[2]. When it a vendor/operator/franchise/sponsor name is added it defeats the point of why the template exists! Instead try to describe what the transportation system is, and the location of it. Then, as operators change, the logo and name can be easily updated without problem. —Sladen (talk) 00:18, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Sladen for the tips, okay would plain "mtr" or "metro2" work because many metro systems in China more then one operator per metro system? — ASDFGH =] talk? 00:26, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Try to choose things that aren't likely to change, so for the Shenzhen Metro, use {{rail-interchange|shenzhen|metro|1}}, {{rail-interchange|shenzhen|metro|2}}, …. This way you get the generic logo if you just add {{rail-interchange|shenzhen|metro}}, and the present correct colour/logo/operator (per table on Shenzhen Metro#Current System) if the number is also added at the end. And Bingo! when the operator for eg. Line 3 changes it only needs updating in a single location in {{rail-interchange}}, not hundreds of places across Wikipedia. —Sladen (talk) 00:34, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there

[edit]

Hi, ASDFGH:

I am Wishva de Silva and I have saw your substantial edits for articles related to the city of Shenzhen.

I know the following may sound a little weird but please read it through if possible...This is not a mass message

For quite a while I have been looking for Wikipedians that would like to help in editing Shenzhen-related articles. Which, as you probably might have knew, are in a terrible shape and are nothing close in being encyclopedic. I have set up a WikiProject particularly focusing on Shenzhen but due to the lack of local Shenzhen editors I am currently in touch with, this project is still very much stagnant. Thus, as you probably might have guessed already, I really want help from people like you! So see if you can join this WikiProject, then slowly but surely we will improve the coverage of Shenzhen-related articles. Thank you!

If you cannot attend in person, you are more than willing to work remotely, as we appreciate all help that you can provide. Finally, here is a link to the Facebook event, in case you want to invite friends, as we are always looking for new editors to help expand coverage of women on Wikipedia!

Proposed deletion of Democratic Party (Japan) leadership election, 2010

[edit]

The article Democratic Party (Japan) leadership election, 2010 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Vanishingly unlikely search term created by page move.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Citations for tables of prefecture-level divisions for each Chinese province

[edit]

When you updated the table of prefecture-level divisions for each Chinese province back on 11-12 December 2015, e.g. this or this, I noticed that you tried to add some references, which is great since it's not so easy to find good sources for these figures (as I discovered while cleaning up List of Chinese administrative divisions by area). But for the table of every province, the area column cites the Shenzhen or Baoding Statistical Yearbook, and the citation for the population column is also really messed up. Can you fix these when you have a chance? Thanks! Cobblet (talk) 07:46, 26 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dalian North Railway Station

[edit]

Hi. I'm writing to try to inform you that yhere may be something wrong with your edition of Dalian North Railway Station. {{Infobox station}} has som parameters that must be strongly noticed, namely symbol_location and symbol. You apparently removed the correct codes and replaced with incorrect ones. In other words, symbol = metro under symbol_location = dalianmakes no sense. As an alternative you may want to type symbol_location= cn |symbol = metro, however it would just ruin the livery that is meant to be shown to the right of the station's name in preview mode. Please consider restore the last version of that page, or I'm taking actions. Super Wang 10:45, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Forgive me for my spelling mistakes -- I am writing it on a smartphone rather than a PC. Hope you have a good day. Super Wang 10:47, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Super Wang: I believe the symbols are currently correct. Usually only the system logo is shown and not the line number. (There are some exceptions but this is mostly consistent in Mainland China.) Jc86035 (talk) 10:52, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Jc86035: Firstly I am not interested in TPS, and secondly, the current version by this user (ASDFGH) (off topic:what's that username all about?) does not show any symbols, let alone line numbers. I aim to make more people understand what a station is for, or in another way: if we are not using line numbers, why did they program them into the template? Super Wang 11:02, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Super Wang: The symbols are not displaying on the mobile website for some reason. Jc86035 (talk) 11:04, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Jc86035: You may be right on that... now tell me why using the Dalian Metro logo rather than line number. Super Wang 11:06, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Super Wang: I don't really remember (I last worked on this about two years ago), but it was something to do with the connecting lines already being in |lines= (so putting them in the header would be unnecessary), as well as preventing clutter in the infobox title for stations with multiple connecting lines. (I have also added {{rail color box}} to the infobox, as it is in e.g. Futian Checkpoint Station.) Jc86035 (talk) 11:17, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Line 1, Hefei Metro

[edit]

Hi. I revoked your edition in Line 1, Hefei Metro because of I found some mistakes. In Chinese railway system, the code of Hefei Railway Station is HFH and the code of Hefei South Railway Station is ENH. In IATA code HFE represent Hefei Xinqiao International Airport. In Hefei Metro system Hefei South Railway South Square station can not transfer to Hefei South Railway Station.

I am very glad to see you created the Hefei Metro page. But I also hope you thoroughly confirmed before editing. The English name of Line 1 in your edition was totally fault.

Please forgive my grammar mistake. My English grammar not very well. And wish you have a good day. - via User:Caoyuanlang2011 (User talk:Caoyuanlang2011) 14:07, 12 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dalian Metro station name moves

[edit]

Hi ASDFGH, May I ask that you take a pause from moving pages relating to China metro system articles unilaterally without discussion or a move request? You moved a bunch of pages for Dalian Metro stations to English translations over their Chinese names in pinyin. Do you have any official source for these English names? I'm afraid that if you introduce your own English translation of these station names where no official one exists this could be considered original research. Some of them are fine but other ones like Golden Pebble Beach could be up for debate. Could you point to a source or some other rationale for moving to these English translations? I feel that in the absence of English translations we need to have some discussion on which names to use. Thanks Heights(Want to talk?) 01:44, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Recently, Dalian Metro Corporation published their last revision on Dalian Metro station names. [5] They are not original research name of these stations. — ASDFGH =] talk? 01:53, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok great, just wanted to see where they came from because some of them are kind of weird. Charts of the Administrative Divisions of Chinese Districts and Counties

[edit]

Hey! I saw that in June 2016 you made a chart of the administrative divisions of Taishan. I am doing some of that work in Hubei Province now: List of township-level divisions of Hubei. Here's the one I did today: Yingshan County, Hubei. I'm mainly keeping it simple and focusing on getting the right Chinese characters and the right English translation with sources and citation for now. I sincerely welcome your corrections and advice! Here's the list of some other ones I have done: 1 Yonglong, Hubei 2 Hongshan District, Wuhan 3 Jingshan County 4 Liushuquan 5 Xincai County 6 Haiyang 7 Luonan Subdistrict 8 Yanta District 9 Wulian County 10 Qingshan District, Wuhan 11 Hannan District 12 Caidian District 13 Dongxihu District 14 Huangpi District 15 Xinzhou District, Wuhan 16 Jiangxia District 17 Hanyang District 18 Qiaokou District 19 Jiang'an District 20 Jianghan District 21 Wuchang District Wu-ch‘ang 22 Xiantao Hsien-t`ao 23 Tianmen T‘ien-men 24 Qianjiang, Hubei Ch‘ien-chiang 25 Echeng District E-ch‘eng 26 Huarong District Hua-jung 27 Ezhou E-chou 28 Liangzihu District Liang-tzu-hu 29 Huanggang Huang-kang Local Dialect template 30 Huangzhou District Township-level Divisions 31 Macheng Macheng City 32 Wuxue 33 Tuanfeng County 34 Hong'an County 35 Xishui County 36 Qichun County 37 Huangmei County 38 Luotian County. Pinyin inconsistency in railway station names

[edit]

Hello again, ASDFGH. Just wanted to ask about the inconsistency around using full pinyin, including the direction ("xi", "nan", "dong", "bei") for some station names while keeping others as English ("West", "South", "East", "North"). I saw that in some templates and in most of the infoboxes the name uses full pinyin (e.g. Shanghaixi, Beijingnan, Songjiangnan), but the lead is often a mix of the two (Shanghaixi is a railway station..., Songjiang South is a railway station...). In addition, some of the templates are mixed (like S-line for Shanghai-Nanjing Intercity Railway uses Songjiang South, but the navbox template uses Songjiangnan), and as far as I can see all of the actual article titles use the English direction (Shanghai West, Beijing South, Songjiang South). Any reason for these inconsistencies? I don't really care which one is used, but it may be confusing to the average reader who doesn't immediately link the association between the directions in pinyin and the English meaning of the directions. I would like to see some consistency applied at least between the infobox, the lead, and the templates.

From my recollection (and looking at some pictures on Commons), it appears that for most of the newer stations, that have English signage, they do use the English direction names, e.g. Beijing South Railway Station, "Songjiang South Railway Station" on signage. Not sure if that should influence how Wikipedia should use the name. Heights(Want to talk?) 21:50, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I just stumbled upon this [6], which makes sense now. I think in terms of for an English audience (on this Wikipedia), my preferred approach would be (I will use the example Beijingnan):
  • Article title: Beijing South railway station
  • Lead: Beijingnan (Beijing South) is a railway station...
  • Infobox: Beijingnan, but in other names: Beijing South
  • All templates and navboxes: Beijingnan

Heights(Want to talk?) 22:09, 15 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

These suggestions looks great. Yes, in late 2012 CR did a romanization revision on all of its stations. However, most of the metro systems stick with the former names. — ASDFGH =] talk? 18:51, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please come up with an actual English name for Template:Eastern Guangdong & Hong Kong transit. I don't care what it is, as long as it's English. Please mention that Mangshi(芒市) is one word, not Mang + shi. Mangshi is the proper noun of the city, not "Mang". The character of "市" is not only part of the proper noun, also is the administrative division name. The word "芒市"(Mangshi) was first appeared in 1443 as a place name, when the Tusi of 芒市御夷长官司 established. And there is a ethnic named 茫施 (Mangshi) in history, the name of 芒市 was evolved from 茫施. [7] here is the English website which established by Dehong government, you can see many of news and articles about Mangshi in English here, the official translation is Mangshi not Mang.--Xiliu※heshui · criticize me 11:39, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Nanjing 2014 Candidate Logo.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Nanjing 2014 Candidate Logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Removing 'county' from infoboxes

Hello. I noticed the dozens of changes you're making to articles, removing the word 'county' from infoboxes for places in China which are, according to the article titles, counties. This kind of mass change shouldn't be made unless there's been a request for comment with consensus to change them. I've searched recent RFCs and haven't found one. Would you please tell me where it is? Thank you, BlackcurrantTea (talk) 04:42, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Would you please explain your removal of the word 'county' from the articles about Chinese areas, and why you didn't add a reference to this most recent change? Please be more respectful of native languages

[edit]

You are doing great work on this website. But I have done a partial revert of your edit here ([11]). It doesn't matter that "Foochow Romanized is not the PRC standard". The language is spoken in that area and has been for thousands of years. There is a Wikipedia that is written in Foochow Romanized. I love the work you have done, but ask that you please be more respectful of the native languages of local areas in the future and never delete minority language information ever again. That deletion was very disrespectful to the people living in that area who speak their native language, and you need to be sensitive to these issues. Geographyinitiative (talk) 18:32, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Before you delete a local language's romanization system and put Hanyu Pinyin in its place, please read this sentence. "1. Linguistic diversity is a world heritage that must be valued and protected." -Girona Manifesto on Linguistic Rights Yes, by all means, add Hanyu Pinyin where Hanyu Pinyin is the official standard. But to delete the native language of a place-- oh my. Geographyinitiative (talk) 18:58, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Dear ASDFGH: you must not continue to seek to remove and/or replace native language-derived terminology, romanizations and other information in mainland China with Hanyu Pinyin derived forms. Your position on using Hanyu Pinyin forms goes well beyond that of Xinhua News Agency and the government offices of mainland China. [12] Geographyinitiative (talk) 22:01, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
When I see the type of edit in which a minority ethnicity or language group's romanizations and transliterations are overwritten by Mandarin Chinese Hanyu Pinyin, it reminds me of this passage from the 1984 novel:

'The Eleventh Edition is the definitive edition,' he said. 'We're getting the language into its final shape -- the shape it's going to have when nobody speaks anything else. When we've finished with it, people like you will have to learn it all over again. You think, I dare say, that our chief job is inventing new words. But not a bit of it! We're destroying words -- scores of them, hundreds of them, every day. We're cutting the language down to the bone. The Eleventh Edition won't contain a single word that will become obsolete before the year 2050.'

Geographyinitiative (talk) 00:00, 22 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Baidu Baike: 外文名称 Payzawat County The change you made in calling Payzawat Jiashi was making Wikipedia literally worse than Baidu Baike! I beg you to have mercy on the true culture of China rather than artificially forcing Hanyu Pinyin and Mandarin Chinese. Geographyinitiative (talk) 05:36, 22 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, I could be a little too severe in my criticisms here, so do keep up the otherwise good work you are doing. Thanks for your work. Geographyinitiative (talk) 09:56, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of administrative divisions of Zhejiang, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Longgang (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Russian Administrative District Lists

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you have started to re work a lot of these lists into tabulated forms. I have had a look at some of them and I would strongly suggest that you revert these as they're not really working at all for the following reasons:

  1. If you look at List of administrative and municipal divisions of Adygea, a featured list of exactly this kind, you'll see there is no tabulation at all. This is what we should be aiming for here in terms of structure
  2. I'm not sure if you are aware, but "administrative" and "municipal" have very specific meanings in terms of framework of divsions. These lists are solely about administrative divisions, but you have brought in information on municipal divisions which is a completely different thing and creates a clear disjoint between the main infobox, a lot of the maps and the tables you have created
  3. By bringing in the municipal data, as well as inherently confusing things for the lay reader, you have also introduced a large amount of unreferenced information across the board as the references in these lists are to the Russian census and that is done on an administrative basis only
  4. You're bringing in a lot of specific language which we just don't use for the sake of simplicity on enWiki. For example at Administrative divisions of the Sakha Republic you use terms "ulus", "national ulus" and "nasleg" without providing any frame of reference to the reader. Whilst nasleg is a more common word, ulus is a Sakha-specific word and was never included in the original listing
  5. Whilst in the vast majority of cases municipal and administrative districts contain the same settlements, this is not uniformly the case, by creating the tables you have, you have given the reader the impression that this is the case, just adding to the confusion
  6. You're also brigning in colours to signify hierarchy without being clear why which doesn't really align to WP:MOSCOLOR
  7. You have asterisks which go nowhere to highlight towns and in some instances, but not all, have brought in rural settlements but have not made clear what you mean by this nor been clear whether you are bringing them in as rural settlements or rural okrugs
  8. I'm not seeing any attempt to discuss this either at WP:RUS or The Human geography of Russia task force. Have you got consensus to make such widespread, significant changes to the structure of these lists?

If this was just a presentational change I wouldn't have any real problem with it, the original lists are a little cumbersome, but they at least work because they are uniform and try not to introduce specific language to individual lists. What you have done is take what is a deceptively complicated subject and further confuse things for the layman to my mind. Having seen the amount of changes you have made I didn't want to revert them all without discussing with you, but unless you can point to a clear consensus for this change, based on points 1-3 at least above, I see no other option. Dear friend : First I would like to thank you for the picture you made for Bohai Economic Rim, it is beautiful. But there are some mistakes I have to tell you, I will be much appreciated if you can make some fixes on it. According to 《全国主体功能区规划》and 《辽宁沿海经济带建设规划》published by the Chinese government (www.gov.cn/zhengce/content/2011-06/08/content_1441.htm)(www.gov.cn/xinwen/2017-09/05/content_5222729.htm), Bohai Economic Rim is a so called 优化开发区域,the cities mentioned in the government file including Beijing, Tianjin, Langfang, Tangshan, Qinhuangdao, Cangzhou, Dalian, Dandong, Jinzhou, Yingkou, Panjin, Huludao, Shenyang, Qingdao, Yantai, Weihai, Dongying, Binzhou(see 第五章第二节), so Dandong in your map should be blue, and Anshan, Zhangjiakou, Chengde, Jinan, Zibo should be pink. Hello
When you re-jigged the admin districts table here last year, you added an asterisk to the Urban-type settlement/district town heading; does that signify anything? Is there supposed to be a footnote linked there or something? Regards, Moonraker12 (talk) 20:34, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

LA to FA 2022

Dear ASDFGH,

You're invited to a zoom call, taking place on February 11, with the goal of improving the article on Los Angeles to Featured article status! I often find it daunting to approach the Big Subjects on my own—so if you, like me, want a time to sit down with fellow dedicated editors and tackle something important and complex, this is the zoom for you! I, unfortunately, have no way to transmit snacks over zoom; but I trust you to exercise good judgement and discretion in selecting snacks of your own. Hope to see you there—if you're interested, add your name here!

Notice

The file File:Guangzhou Metro APM.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Superseded by c:File:GZM APM Line icon.svg

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 09:49, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Guangzhou Metro succession templates indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Notice

The file File:FMetro Guangfo Line.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused, superseded by File:GZM Guangfo Line icon.svg.

--Minorax«¦talk¦» 04:15, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! NM 01:55, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Just a quick reminder that articles in navbox should "refer to each other, to a reasonable extent" and we avoid templates with a large number of links because they "can appear overly busy and be hard to read and use". It’s not reasonable to list out every single subway lines and train stations of 7 enormous cities together in one (or even a few) navboxes. Each transit system should use their own navbox.
