60.229.61.197 - the guy who you told me off for abusing - re-added the racist abuse to Marlon Harewood's page. I removed it, but I seriously think you should block that idiot. You guys really do not want him around.

L'Arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat

Hey, you reverted my changes to the 'L'Arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat' page. Why? That film was not, repeat NOT, first screened at the Lumière's 28th December 1895. You can consult the programme of films shown that day on the Institut Lumière website (institut-lumiere.org/francais/patrimoinelumiere/premiereseance.html), and you will see that this film is not one of the ten listed. If you know something the Institut Lumière doesn't, please provide the source. As it is, it looks as though you've simply overturned a correction without cross-checking first. And that's pretty irritating. SJC

Hi. Thanks for the message. You removed
without a reason. It's sourced info. You also used the dash (--) which is rarely used (somewhat), per Wikipedia's Manual of Style. Thanks A8UDI 21:10, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Sorry about the n-dash - my computer puts it in automatically. I'll avoid it in future. As for removing the quotation, I had an excellent reason - it doesn't refer to the film in question. 'Les tramways, les voitures' - these are road traffic, not rail traffic, and thus irrelevant in a discussion of 'L'Arrivée d'un train'. It may be useful in another page discussing the Lumières' method or reputation, but it adds nothing here. Thanks. SJC

That's what edit summaries are for silly! :) Had you put one, I would not have reverted, although I probably shouldn't have in the first place. So I apologize, although I recommend that you make an account and please use an edit summary. Thanks, Tom :) A8UDI 21:22, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Ah! Right, my mistake. OK, will create an account next time I feel the need to change something! Thanks. SJC —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.125.30.171 (talk) 21:25, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

You reverted a page blanking, but I believe that the author's blanking of a page implies that G7 goes into effect. Hi. I appreciate the heads up about the anti vandal stuff, but I'm not entirely sure what I am missing. Could you please explain? I've read through the page link left, but am not sure what I need to do differently. Thanks Paralympiakos (talk) 02:23, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Ok, so I only add {{subst:uw-vandal3} } (without the space) and then I'll be correct? Thanks Paralympiakos (talk) 02:35, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Yes sir. Another hint for you: <nowiki></nowiki> is another syntax tool that basically tells wikipedia to ignore any markings. (ie, '''bold text''' is not bolded with <nowiki></nowiki> around it) A8UDI 02:39, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for that too. I just had a look at how you did that on my talk page, so I'll utilise that in the future. Sorry for bombarding you with messages anyway; it's incredibly late in my timezone, so I'm a little slow on the uptake, through fatigue. I've had a look at the link you left in the second message and don't see much in the way of difference, but if that is the recommended method, then I'll endeavour to do that in the future. Thanks for the heads up. Paralympiakos (talk) 02:42, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
You should request for rollback rights too... then you can patrol recent changes with me and some of my friendz. haha A8UDI 02:44, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
I've just had a quick look at that page. Is that really any better than the undo process? It just seems like it takes one quick, minor step out. Would you really recommend it or is it just a really minor change? Paralympiakos (talk) 02:49, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Oh my god it is 100x faster. One click and the edits are reverted instantly. However, it should be used only for obvious vandalism, considering that when you rollback an edit, you cannot provide an edit summary why. A8UDI 02:51, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Ok, well thanks again for the various heads up on different matters. I've applied for rollback rights, so it's just a wait and see moment now. Thanks! Paralympiakos (talk) 02:57, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
I look forward to reverting vandalism on the recent changes. I've been doing it for only about a month and I already got some tips and pointers of what to look for :) A8UDI 03:01, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
BTW are you from Greece? I know the Greek alphabet :))))) lol A8UDI 03:29, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
England, actually and I am English, so not a foreigner in England. The story behind the name is that Greece have football (soccer) clubs ending in -lympiakos and the "para" is a poor taste joke. Think Olympics and Paralympics. Same thing basically. Paralympiakos (talk) 03:32, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I so would love to go to Europe... A8UDI 03:34, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
I wouldn't advise England in all honesty. The country is going to hell with the violence of the random man. The most recognisable places to most would probably be Manchester and London. Well Manchester wouldn't be enjoyed by many as it's too industrial looking (despite the fact I love it) and London is far too overcrowded and overhyped. Any other country (outside the U.K/Ireland) is fair game, but I'd avoid U.K. like the plague. As soon as I get some money, I'm headed to the Pacific Northwest. Paralympiakos (talk) 03:37, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Like seattle/vancouver? :S lol.. it rains everyday there.. 03:39, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Seattle is the plan. As for the rain, I love it. Where I live, it rains A LOT, so I'm totally used to it. I'm not a fan of hot weather at all. But yeah, can't wait to leave this country, sadly. I love the city I live in, a lot, but can't stand the people anymore. Paralympiakos (talk) 03:41, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Awesome. I'm thinking nyc or san fransisco myself. well good luck on getting rollback. I think you'll get it. :) A8UDI 03:44, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Bloody hell! That's the complete opposite sides of the country if my patchy knowledge is correct. Anyway, once again, cheers for the heads up and nice speaking to you briefly. Paralympiakos (talk) 03:46, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Can remove them? That's mental! That confuses me because admins cannot see that they have past warnings, meaning if they recommit the same problems, admins will only give them a first warning as opposed to a banning. This guy has been hounding me all day and if he gets a first warning due to admins not seeing past warnings, it's going to be very annoying. Also, I'm unsure now because another user has also been reinstating the warnings alongside me. Paralympiakos (talk) 02:07, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

I warned him too. Yes they can. And it's not hard, all you need to do is look at the history and Twinkle and HG have automatic edit summaries for that reason. A8UDI 02:10, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
Not really sure what the Twinkle and HG things are, but if an admin glances at his talk page and sees no warnings, would they not just place a ug:vandalism 1 warning? Paralympiakos (talk) 02:22, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
Twinkle is a handy little warning tool that I strongly recommend every user utilize. You can "install" it in your prefs under "Gadgets" with 2 clicks. Does that happen? Yes, absolutely. But they can't run forever, and again, when someone does blank their talk page, it is very obvious. See the discussion at the very bottom. A8UDI 02:25, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism

Hello Tom ! The denigration attacks against the Tomahawk Blues Band still continue and now 82.81.45.189 & Astronaut are starting denigration attacks against the Luc Hensill page also (because the Tomahawk). They really like the use of the terms "minor" and "shorts" ;-). Respectful Greetings ! Raoniz (talk) 08:01, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello there. First and foremost, it's very difficult to see which changes are made to what because there are little edit summaries. Especially when trying to fix an article, using them helps people like me try to see what's going on. On the Luc Hensil article, except for the external links and refs, that user was right- it wasn't formatted correctly (except for the 35mm camera- but that doesn't really need to be mentioned). The Manual of Style will clear things up for you-- such as when to bold or italicize. Thanks :) A8UDI 12:48, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tom ! 82.81.45.189 & Astronaut made me laugh a lot with this Tomahawk comedy. With them, Wikipedia became very funny. If it is OK for you then it is OK for me. "Okie doke" as you wrote it ;-). Greetings ! Raoniz (talk) 14:36, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello. I need help. I created an article called De musica ligera and as I am not an expert on Wikipedia, for my error, the article is with the wrong name and is now called De musica ligera and the correct way to write De Música ligera. Now, Wikipedia will not let me change the name and wanted to know if you can do something to change the name and put the correct one. It seems a little mistake, but I want this well-written. Sorry if I wrote something wrong, because I do not know English well. JGabriel ar (talk) 14:46, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Absolutely! Lemme check it out A8UDI 15:09, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Done -- please note that the article needs charts or more significance to be mentioned or it may meet the requirements for deletion. A8UDI 15:13, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Thank you very much. Although it would be better named "De Música Ligera", without "(song)". It's rare that something more is called "De Música Ligera". JGabriel ar (talk) 16:13, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

I had to put it there due to a redirect. However, I do hope you plan on expanding the song's significance, such as Lovegame for example. Thanks A8UDI 17:17, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

I do not understand what you say. But I think it means that the item can have different meanings. When I tried to rename the article says that an administrator can help me or something. know who to talk?. Because I still think it is better to be without "(song)" JGabriel ar (talk) 00:07, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

"De Musica Ligera" is an article about a song. The article does not explain why it should be noted, WP:MUSIC guidelines (i.e.- it needs a "chart" top spot or so). Do not worry about the title for now, we can fix this another time. If you do not add content about why the song should be noted, the article will be deleted and the page will be redirected back to Soda Stereo. Okay? A8UDI 00:34, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

The new user User:Gfs6gradeB has been making unconstructive little edits to Flamingo, and nobody seems to have noticed this yet (it's been an hour since this user last made an edit there). Can you revert his last three edits? And do you think Flamingo should be semiprotected? This vandalism is making it hard for me to work on editing the page. innotata (Talk | Contribs) 19:52, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello there. Well first, you may request rollback, given that you have some anti vandal experience and knowledge of the user warnings (WP:UTM) with at least 200 edits here. Semi protected? no way. semi-protection requires a lot of vandalism in a short period of time where rollbackers and other users cannot keep up or it is occurring several times per day. Second, how is that vandalism? He added a sentence and cited it. That's exactly what he's supposed to do (although that requires a login to view....) A8UDI 19:59, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
He did change one thing, but I wouldn't worry about it.. A8UDI 20:08, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. No, I don't need rollback rights, and I don't know what the criteria are for semi-protection. I saw this user's contribs page, and the flamingo page, and that is not what I saw. First this user added an awfully done citation to an unreliable source with membership requirements, and this user started another account and made useless little changes to two existing cits. I just edited an old revision of the article, to undo this. innotata (Talk | Contribs) 20:14, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
okie doke. ya, semi-protection (to be really specific) is for: "highly-visible pages" (ex penis), sockpuppetry (by blocked users), or highly vandalized pages (ex Jedward-- I requested protection for it this morning. The history was out of control.) But if you'd like rollback, it's much faster than Twinkle's rollback feature. If you need anything else feel free to shoot a message A8UDI 20:18, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your warm welcome. I hope to contribute a lot here ;).

I have got a question for now, I ask how does Wikipedia work with all these forms and edit controls? The bots here must have super artificial intelligence, but as a community admin, I've no doubt you add to that functionality :).

I have always gone by Wikipedia only for information. May be it was about time I contributed back, though it looks like my personal life may be a bit busy to keep up with your commitment here.

How do you do it :P? I am a philosopher, so I should think the contributes I have in the short time I have will be good ones.

Regards, James —Preceding unsigned comment added by James D Smith (talkcontribs) 22:18, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi James and thank you for the message. When I was new here's what personally propelled me to learn more about Wikipedia & contribute:
  • First and foremost, you can sign your name with the date by simply typing ~~~~ after your messages on talk pages, such as here.
  • Utilizing talk pages. That way, the community (or at least a few other wikipedian editors and even IPs!) can help perfect the article.
  • The manual of style: the proper format of writing.
  • Dealing with other users when one gives you a hard time and assume good faith, which means unless obvious otherwise, assume that most people try to help the project, not hurt it.
  • The 3 revert rule: avoid undoing or reverting another user's edits that are not vandalism.

There's a lot more but I don't want to bombard you (I'm still learning myself)! A philosopher! :) Excellent! I look forward to working with you. Regarding your "robot" inquiry, I don't deal with that and I am not an admin, but I can help you out in someway :). Tom A8UDI 22:29, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Altered Speedy Deletion rationale: The pelican movement of christ

Hello A8UDI, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. I am just informing you that I have deleted a page you tagged (The pelican movement of christ) under a criterion different from the one your provided, which was inappropriate or incorrect. CSD criteria are narrow and specific to protect the encyclopedia, and the process is more effective if the correct deletion rationale is supplied. Consider reviewing the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions or problems, please let me know. Thanks again! GedUK  09:59, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

I should do that... *goes to study* A8UDI 10:02, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Ahh, don't worry about it too much! You tagged it as advertising, I deleted it as non-notable (A7). It's a minor difference really. GedUK  10:08, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

CSD

Deletion, possibly, but I'm not sure about speedy. It does appear to be the longest word in Greek; the question is whether it qualifies for its own article, or should just remain as a part of Assemblywomen, which it already is. I'd say it'd not a candidate for speedy. But as to whether it's a candidate for deletion at all, I'd ask editors who are knowledgeable about Assemblywomen. Happy Thanksgiving. - 15. Your bright green $300 air filter is bigger than your engine.}}</ref>[2]

was removed? If so, the word "you" is never used in an article and that is just a laundry list... not encyclopedic. A8UDI 13:05, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

It is a quote from a semi-humorous piece attempting to explain the usage of "rice burner". The point of the quote is to illustrate the attitudes of those who use the term do disparage cars they don't like. It appears the reason that you think it is not encyclopedic is that you misunderstand what it is. In short, quotes from the original work inside of footnotes are perfectly acceptable, and can be encyclopedic. That's why {{Citation}} has a |quote= field. Sometimes you put things there.

If you come up with more valid reason for this deletion, please explain it at Talk:Rice burner. Thanks.--Dbratland (talk) 16:51, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

  • Also: If you're going to delete parts of references, would you please refrain from deleting the closing </ref> tag, as well as deleting an entire separate reference that followed it? If you preview a page and you see giant red letters with an error message, that means you broke something and should not click Save Page until you fix it.--Dbratland (talk) 16:59, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
I have no idea what the problem is, I reverted my own edits. A8UDI 03:31, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Your first edit fixed the page, and your second edit broke it again. After you reverted yourself, the article looked like this. Note that a whole section and paragraph are swallowed up by the broken ref code. But it's fixed now and I'm sure you meant to help. All I'm saying is, sometimes when you revert you need to preview the outcome and make sure you understand what your edit is doing. Also, because I reverted you, I think that caused Drdisque (talk · contribs) to think that I was vandalizing the page, and so they went and borked the page yet again and accused me of vandalism on top of that. Confusion all around. --Dbratland (talk) 17:48, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
I typically do look at the diff link.. but occassionally if I see a (Tag) of blanking or a huge negative number i may just revert. It was probably one of those. Sorry :P A8UDI 17:51, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello A8UDI. I removed the speedy from this article because I felt it doesn't meet the criteria of db-person. Db-person doesn't require notability, it only requires there not to be a claim of fame or notability. There are a few things on there that I feel disqualifies it, 1) the award, 2) the book, and 3) the controversy. I strongly recommend this go to AfD, but I cannot set that up right now. If you haven't done it by the time I get home, I will. I explained this all on the talk page. Thanks and happy editting.--TParis00ap (talk) 07:52, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

OH now I remember why I CSD'd it.. I saw "In 2007 when Christopher entered middle school, he was dumbfounded, confused, and puzzled. He have always seen the world through innocent eyes- everything was perfect, everyone had a job, a house, family, people were nice to other people, everything was in peace. When he entered middle school, he realized the world was not peaceful. He would see students bullying other students in the halls, cursing, even worse. He wanted change" and that was enough to make it read like an essay or COI etc. Probably should have read it more.... but I assumed just based on that it'd qualify A8UDI 13:11, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
Haha, trust me, the same thing crossed my mind. This should probobly be oversighted as a 13 year old outing himself but it doesn't give specific location details so it's borderline. I don't think I'll request oversight but the page defintely deserves to be deleted. I just am a stickler for CSD criteria and against my best judgement, felt it shouldn't be CSDd.--TParis00ap (talk) 17:36, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Oh, you may not have known but you actually made an article. The sandbox is here: WP:SANDBOX or you can practice in mine (less busy) if you'd like: here.

I'm having a bit of a problem getting the links to show up in the reference section at the bottom of my page. I thought I followed the directions. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks

I made some fixes. Did I fix what you were asking? A8UDI 02:21, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tom,

I need to get the references in the reference section to link. I am not quite sure how to do this. Do I to in and enter them in the references section by clicking on that section? I did that and there is no text. I don't want to goof it up.

Dwalkerus (talk) 12:56, 28 November 2009 (UTC)Dwalkerus

Hi Tom,

I know my edits were scrappy, I am fan of wikipedia and new to editing. What was the problem with the rv so I can try and fix it.

ThanksPalacehistorian (talk) 02:58, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi there and welcome! I probably shouldn't have reverted, but I did so because it wasn't sourced properly. So I'll walk you through it. We'll use Diplomatic Missions as the reference. Here's what you do:
1. Next to the cited sentence put <ref>http://www.centrafricaine.info/flags/index-francais.html Diplomatic Missions</ref>.
2. Make a reference section by making:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
3. that's it!
If you need anything else please let me know and welcome! Tom A8UDI 03:04, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tom,

I appreciate you advice but could you do it please? I am afraid I am going to mess it up again and look like an idiot. I am not, just html looks a bot like chinese to me. Thanks for getting back. :-) Palacehistorian (talk) 03:08, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

yup. and oh do not worry about lookin' like an idiot. I've been there I promise you ;) What sentence where am I citing it? PS you can practice in my sandbox here: User:A8UDI/sandbox. A8UDI 03:09, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tom. Thanks. It was the emblem I was citing, not sure about sentence? I appreciate your help. Seriously, html is like zeros and ones to me at the moment, maybe in over my head trying to edit something. LOL Palacehistorian (talk) 03:14, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

It's ok. I don't do computer stuff either, trust me. However, Wikipedia (if you don't count doing tables or knowing the difference between <div> and <span>) is not very hard to get the hang of. There some things you'll learn but it is overall not complicated. I think I know what you're asking.. hold on. A8UDI 03:18, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Actually that link is not a reference. It does not contain any information and is in French. To cite something, it must contain info relevant to what is being talked about. Nous sommes le Wikipedia anglais monsieur ;)... il n'y a pas trop personne qui parlent français ici! ;) See WP:CITE A8UDI 03:24, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tom,

True, don't know how I ended up on the french version of that page. It was the english version I wanted to use.

http://www.centrafricaine.info/flags/index-english.html

The reference was to cite the emblem, not the written content of the page.

Thanks Palacehistorian (talk) 03:29, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tom.

I think that the article on the diplomatic corps should have a diplomatic corps emblem in it. I know more or less how to add the emblem, but don't know how to make it on the right side of the page with the article text wrapped around it. I am also having trouble trying to work out how to cite the emblem by using the reference link. http://www.centrafricaine.info/flags/index-english.html Any help would be appreciated. Palacehistorian (talk) 14:39, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Ahh... I see... Well to upload images, go to Special:Upload. However, It will need to be tagged, and it is probably copyrighted, meaning that it cannot be uploaded here on Wikipedia. Lemme do some research for you on WP:TAG. A8UDI 14:45, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tom.

I see in wikimedia commons, there are lots of examples of that emblem that are not copyrighted.

I think it would be best if you decide which is acceptable, as you have more experience as an editor. Thanks Palacehistorian (talk) 14:48, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

I looked at this search to see which one was the same on the Central African Republic website. There are lots of examples. http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search=diplomatic+corps Palacehistorian (talk) 14:54, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Awesome! Use the Wikimedia commons image, then. Do you know how to incorporate them into an article? (ex: File = .....jpg) A8UDI 14:55, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi, No, I don't know how to, well I do more or less, but really, any example image placed there should be dressed to the right I imagine? Better on the eye, plus should the text of the article wrap around it so that is doesn't use up tons of space? Palacehistorian (talk) 14:59, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi there. I am not familiar with the 2 bands (really). However, I looked through iTunes and indeed a good chunk of "Dream Theater"'s discography appears to be correct, in terms of album titles. Furthermore the Korn history is different than that of Dream Theater. Could you explain further about the mixup? A8UDI 13:39, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

I swear yesterday instead of dream theatre history it was korn history! but now it's correct, anyway sorry for trouble and thanx for quick reply. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sepehrmm (talkcontribs) 17:48, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

About this edit

Oh how wrong you are. Why just yesterday they predicted the sun would come up (I lost 20 bucks on that bet too). Soxwon (talk) 19:28, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

lol. Although, I will say that a future trends/speculation may be written in an encyclopedic way. I mean, you had an extremely unpopular Republican president for 8 years, then you have a nominated moderate Republican, who chose a very controversial VP. If you look at the raw data, just looking at the raw data, a "future trends" section ... is up in the air, especially considering that generally speaking more and more americans are becoming libertarian and liberal I think. (From the 20s > 30s, > 40s > 50s > 60s > 70s (very liberal) > 80s (conserv) > 90s (liberal) 00s (conserv) '10s ? A8UDI 19:34, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
I think that the US will always have a conservative side (if the entire country becomes liberal then Massachusetts will become conservative just to be different). That being said, the section is a magnet for the two sides to predict either doom and gloom or suns, roses, and puppies (or kittens if you're allergic) depending on which side they support. I want to see long term views and trends from neutral sources put into the section, not that Bob McDonnell winning means the Republicans are on the upswing for the next election. Soxwon (talk) 19:39, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Hahahah MA just to be different... Honestly, I think we're down the same path Europe is. How was Europe in 1600? Was Amsterdam gay-friendly then? (No, they were actually the most homophobic country)... how is Europe today? Why are they liberal? How did they become that way? Is/can the US be any different? ... A8UDI 19:44, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Yes, but you still have that conservative side, and it's actually quite a lot less liberal than they used to be. The pendulum always swings center eventually... Soxwon (talk) 19:49, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Agreed A8UDI 19:50, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Heck, I'm a Republican (though reluctantly, more Southpark republican), I've even managed to stop thinking of liberals as communist, hedonist, transvestites :). Soxwon (talk) 19:55, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
That's good, cuz youre talking to a gay Democrat, who happens to be able to be able to think logically, is not a transvestite, likes pretty cars, has some conservative (male) friends and actually has a fairly low voice :) A8UDI 19:58, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Re: talk pages

Thanks, it would help more if you could give a hint on which pages is it about. Did you mean if a user wish to have their talk blanked, it should be kept so in any situation? Regards. Materialscientist (talk) 02:12, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Nope. If you warn a user for vandalizing or whatever and they blank their talk page, do not revert their edits. Leave it blanked. If they continue to vandalize (which is very often) then continue warning them as if they hadn't. Twinkle and HG leave automatic edit summaries for that reason, and once a page is created, it is always there to view the history (unless an admin deletes it). A8UDI 02:17, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I'm watching, no need for talkback. Regarding user:Mwarcn I hear you - that is an edit conflict with both involved parties lost patience at some point. How about anons and vandals who black their talks just to seem "clean" and go on? Materialscientist (talk) 02:21, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
Oh it's very obvious, believe me. In fact, when I see an edit summary that says "blanked the page" on one's own user space, I almost expect trouble and view the history. I usually see a warning and then they'll do it again and then I just give them a level 4 warning. They're not fooling anyone ;) A8UDI 02:23, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

:But don't think that you're "cleared" of any wrongdoing. If you continue to vandalize or whatever, you will be blocked. That said, please avoid personal attacks and try (at least) to focus only on the content, not the person. A8UDI 02:19, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

That part is very much understood. I simply wanted to make sure that the users in question were on even ground as far as the rules are concerned. Thank you for your participation and guidance. Mwarcn (talk) 02:28, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Tim Ellis page

Regarding your decision to assume this person is editing in "good faith". I will accept your judgement even though I know who this person is and why they are continually changing things with this page. (I corrected the title of an Award claimed by James Galea on his Wikipedia page in October, as he was using one of my websites as a reference. He changed the title of the award to suit his purpose, I corrected it, and user 123.243.53.233 reverted it back three times more then proceeded to target TIM ELLIS http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Tim_Ellis ).

All I ask is you check JAMES GALEA's page http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/James_Galea, specifically the title of the award (Australian Close-Up Magician of the Year.[1]) and self publicity text in recent entries ("Part mystery, part coming-of-age story, part demonstration of the finer arts of trickery, Lying Cheating Bastard is the story of Jimmy's induction into the murky world of gangsters and grifters. Featuring close-up projection of Jimmy's card scams live on stage, James Galea performs astonishing feats of skill with cards and sleight of hand to match."), and keep an eye on the TIM ELLIS page. User 123.243.53.233 has already, somehow, had the photo removed from the page for no reason and it needs to be replaced. 60.242.139.6 (talk) 12:10, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

How do you know who the person is? And if you know who she/he is, why are the vandalizing? Regardless, I looked through their edits to the article and it didn't look overly unconstructive. Could they be better? yes absolutely, but nothing worthy of a block or even a warning I see. In any regard, if they are vandalizing, you need to talk to them directly via their talk page and then start warning them per WP:UTM if they give you a hard time. Regards, Tom A8UDI 13:30, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

You both need to talk it out in a calm and orderly fashion. Even if you are right, your comments all over that talk page are overly confrontational and any constructive edits or comments will be hindered. I'm also confused on how you know who that IP is in person. A8UDI 15:53, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Greetings

Hi Tom: Thanks for the welcome!

I was speaking to a class of graduate students, and we were discussing the utility and accuracy of wikipedia. In my straw poll, they all used it in their coursework, all found errors sometimes -- but they confessed that only one of them had ever taken the time to correct the error. So I decided, in the interest of practicing what I preach, to contribute.

No need to answer, this is just a friendly hello.

Hi - thanks for your work patrolling new pages. Just a note - for pages that are purely in a foreign language we usually tag them with {{Notenglish}} rather than a A1,A3, or G1 tag. However, in this case, it was actually a cut and paste from another project {{db-a2}}. Regards.  7  07:11, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

It is my only time editing a wikipedia article and i was wondering if you could help me understand the edit history page so i can report back on the professor. There were a few revisions and un-revisions, so are my original revisions good, bad, un-referenced? Any help you could give would be awesome!! Thanks

--Wjv1023 (talk) 15:48, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Absolutely. Ok, here's how it all works in a nutshell. When you view an article, anyone may look at the page's history by simply clicking the "View History" button at the top left* (if you use the monobook [default] skin). In any event, it will be at the top, next to edit.

You can compare various versions of the article by the various users and IPs 3 different ways to view the changes in the history of a page:

1. You can use the (prev) button. The prev button appears to the far left on the version history. You can see that there is a prev button for every line. Plain and simply, the prev button compares the edit's with the current version with the previous version.
2. You can use the (cur) button next to the prev button. The cur function simply compares any edit with those of the current version of a page.
3. Lastly, and the most custom, is the use of the various bullets. By default, they appear at the top, next to each other; with one is a left column and one in a right column; with one slightly lower than the other. Click so you have a bullet in columns next to each other next to the various edits you want to compare. When you got the 2 edit versions you want to compare, click the "Compare selected versions" button to view the difference.

For more information on this, you can see Wikipedia:History_tool for images and more hints and tips.

Your changes can be seen in this diff link here and they look exceptional. Great job. -Tom A8UDI 16:04, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

igloo

Hi A8UDI, and thanks for your interest in igloo. Before using the program, please read the following information carefully - failure to do so may result in your test access being revoked.

igloo is a JavaScript-powered, browser-based anti-vandalism tool, which means you do not have to download or install anything on your computer and it will work on multiple operating systems. However, it does mean that the performance relies on that of your browser and it may operate more slowly than downloaded programs. You must have either Mozilla Firefox 3+ or Google Chrome to use igloo, as it is currently incompatible with other browsers.

igloo relies on a system called iglooNet to assist you in finding and reverting vandalism. It is this system that transforms the program from a pretty version of recent changes to an actual anti-vandalism tool. Naturally, this is beyond the power of a client-side program, and igloo will regularly communicate with an external, non-Wikimedia server. Because of things like server logs, and the iglooNet abuse tracker, this may allow your IP address to be attached to your username - something which is otherwise impossible on Wikipedia. If you do not want this to happen, you MUST NOT USE IGLOO.

If you decide that you do want to test igloo, please keep in mind that it not wholly stable, and you may experience problems where it performs an invalid edit, or other unwanted action. If this happens, fix any mistakes you've made, apologise to anyone you've offended, and let me know. I don't take any responsibility for your use of the program - if you aren't willing to fix any errors, don't use it.

igloo is already quite powerful. The following is a simple guide to using the program:

  • The igloo interface is similar to that of other software, including huggle. Recent changes appear on the left, and diffs appear on the right.
  • igloo sorts diffs based on iglooNet data so that edits most likely to be vandalism are displayed first. You can press spacebar to view the top diff, or click on any diff to view it directly.
  • When you find vandalism, press 'Q' or click the revert button to revert the change, and issue a warning to the user. igloo automatically issues the correct warning. It will ignore existing warnings that are more than 5 days old, and restart from the beginning.
  • The iglooNet assertion system tags clean and dirty edits with colour coding - if it suspects an edit is vandalism, it will be flagged as red, and if it believes it to be clean, it will tag it green.
  • At any time, you can re-review diffs you have already seen by pressing backspace or using the icons to move through the diff history.

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or other feedback, I'd love to know. If you hate it, and won't be using it again, please let me know why - and I'll remove you from the test whitelist. If you now try and use igloo, you should find that it will allow you to use the program. Thanks, and good luck! Ale_Jrbtalk 15:09, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Reverted a crazy IP edit, and then realized that the IP was undoing the crazy edit? I do that all the time. --King Öomie 19:47, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice. Didn't know if I had the authority to add that template. I'm not an administrator.THD3 (talk) 20:41, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Anyone may use the templates. That's what they're there for ;). However, installing twinkle in ur prefs is *much* easier-- does all the work for you. A8UDI 20:44, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

See my message here. -- Europe22 (talk) 21:04, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Ya, consider that a mistake. I was trying out igloo. Now I see to get the hang of it. Apologies. :) A8UDI 21:05, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
No problem. Cheers, ;-) -- Europe22 (talk) 21:08, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

I have requested semi-protection for The Little Orphan. Since you have reverted several times already, you may wish to chime in here. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 22:13, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Not necessary; the protecting admin will review the history and make an appropriate block or semi-protection. A8UDI 22:51, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Henri de Parville, in: Les Annales, April 28 1896, quoted by: Chardère, B.; Borgé, G. and M.
