Welcome!
Interested in becoming a regular contributor to Wikipedia? Create an account! Your , so you might receive messages on this page that were not intended for you.To have your own user pages, keep track of articles you've edited in a watchlist, and have access to a few other special features, please consider registering an account! It's fast and free. (Note: Sometimes, due to vandalism, you may be temporarily unable to register). Applying an indefinite block to this IP is not appropriate, unless it is a soft block, because the IP address will later be reallocated to a different, unrelated, and unsuspecting user, thereby impairing access to Wikipedia in an inappropriate fashion. Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking. The best approach is to determine the CIDR IP numerical address range and make a higher-level decision to soft-block the entire range. http://www.arin.net/ (for approximately North America) and related sites can help to identify that range. Caution is advised when applying a range block as other Wikipedians, both registered and otherwise, may be affected.
Review contributions carefully if blocking this IP address or reverting its contributions. If a block is needed, administrators should consider a soft block using Template:Anonblock. Network administrators, to monitor this IP address for vandalism, can subscribe to a web feed of this page in either RSS or Atom format. |
Welcome!
[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions, such as the ones you made to GNA. I hope you like the place and decide to stay.

You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but if you wish to acquire additional privileges, you can simply create a named account. It's free, requires no personal information, and lets you:
- Create new pages and rename pages
- Edit semi-protected pages
- Upload images
- Have your own watchlist, which shows when articles you are interested in have changed
Note that in order for the first three features to be available, you must have had an account for a certain number of days and made a certain number of edits.
If you edit without using a named account, your IP address (70.51.45.46) is used to identify you instead.
I hope that you, as a Wikipedian, decide to continue contributing to our project: an encyclopedia of human knowledge that anyone can edit. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, or you can to ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. We also have an intuitive guide on editing if you're interested. By the way, please make sure to sign and date your talk page comments with four tildes (~~~~).

AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 16:48, 18 November 2018 (UTC)Dynamism
[edit]Are you sure your IP is "dynamic"? It geolocates as "static". FYI - wolf 07:34, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, if I reset my modem, I will get a new IP. The ISP also randomly rolls over the IP addresses at random intervals. -- 70.51.45.46 (talk)
- I have sent an error report to the geolocation site. FYI - wolf 03:17, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
BTW
[edit]If your IP is dynamic, why don't you create an account? You seem intent on being a contributing editor here, creating articles, etc. If your IP was static, I could understand remaining as an IP, we have some editors who have steadily contributed using the same IP for years. But your IP will likely change soon, and you will lose your WP identity and the credit for your creations, and any accolades you've received. Also, have you looked into the benefits of creating an account? Check it out... - wolf 15:10, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
- It doesn't seem much of a difference whether the IP is static or not, unless one wants to go collecting medals. Aside from a few protected pages / moving pages / creating pages / uploading without ERQ/WP:RM/WP:AFC/WP:IFU, there's not much use for an account in regards to content contribution, and ERQ/RMTR/AFC/IFU is serviceable. -- 70.51.45.46 (talk) 05:28, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
- A lot of people like it for the watchlist (I do). There are the x.tools and related stuff. The ability to get pinged is handy and there is a little more privacy. Plus email, that can be helpful. You don't find yourself locked from protected articles and you can post your new articles, all by yourself. There are some other advanced rights you can get, that can also be handy. And, it gives you something for others to refer to you as, instead of "the guy using 70.51.45.56". But, meh... think about it anyway. - wolf 05:43, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
- Added note; I noticed that when you changed the shared IP template from static to dynamic, you also removed (or chose not to re-add) the name of your ISP and the geographic location of your IP address, which I take it you did for reasons of privacy. Yet anyone can just click on the "WHOIS" or "Geolocate" links at the bottom of your page and view that information anytime. So opting to continue as an IP user instead registering for an account seems counter-intuitive to the want of privacy. Just sayin'... - wolf 19:24, 30 November 2018 (UTC)

This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
