Nikon D3000, before it was a Nikkormat of the '70s. --Elisa.rolle (talk) 23:03, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
@Elisa.rolle: Ok. I'd really recommend upgrading, especially considering all the places you're going, it'll definitely be worth it to get something like the D7200. I upgraded from a 3100 (same essentially as the 3000) to a 5100 and then the 7100, and it's way better. If you don't already, I'd also recommend shooting in RAW; that allows you to later go into Photoshop or similar programs to get rid of distortion (happens with almost every building photo) and correct overexposed or underexposed photos, as well as other things. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 00:02, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Hudson River, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Fort Montgomery. Comment

Hi, I saw you recently reverted my changes to the New York State article. Reason for the change was that the article describes the growth patterns in the state, but a simple perusal of info found on other wikipedia pages showed it wasn't accurate. For example, it listed Rochester as an example of a city whose growth is not stagnant, but in fact the Rochester metro has barely grown since the year 2000 and the metro has actually shrunk since 2010. It also listed Saratoga county as well as the capital district as 'growing considerably' when in fact the capital district outside Saratoga county has actually been shrinking in recent years. Did you disagree with the change? If so then why? Reversion diff: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=New_York&oldid=prev&diff=777029279 --Jmcdon10 (talk) 07:44, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi Jmcdon10, can you provide figures and sources to support your claims here? Also, I believe Ithaca and Rochester were added as areas that are declining in population, though it is tricky to come to that given the current wording. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 18:33, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
Sunday May 21, 10:30 am - 4:30pm: Metropolitan Museum of Art Edit-a-thon

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Edit-a-thon: Met Open Access Initiative is the Metropolitan Museum of Art's first edit-a-thon, being hosted on Sunday May 21, 2017 in Thomas J. Watson Library at The Met Fifth Avenue in New York City.

The Met is excited to make available over 375,000 images of public domain artworks for contribution to Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons from the museum’s collection spanning 5,000 years of art. The event is an opportunity for Wikimedia communities to engage The Met's diverse collection onsite and remotely. The event is a key marker too of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's first Wikimedian-in-Residence program, with resident Richard Knipel (User:Pharos), along with Wikimedia NYC. We invite you to help enhance Wikimedia communities and platforms with open access images from The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The event requires pre-registration. To register, 1) please sign-up with Eventbrite via The Met's website and 2) add your Wikipedia username to the #Participants on the wikimeetup page. Please check-in with museum staff when you arrive at the Thomas J. Watson Library within the museum.

Recommendations for journalism training

First of all, any, if not all of what you learn about writing in Wikipedia is not about journalistic writing. If you have not started college, but you are planning to do so, there are several websites that list schools, or programs you might be interested in. If you are still in high school, my advice would be to make an appointment with a career, or guidance counselor there. Otherwise, I can not endorse any path for you to follow being that I know very little about you. Good luck! —→StephenTS42 (talk) 14:26, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

@StephenTS42: I am past the stage that I would be pursuing it as a major at a school; my field of study is business and the culinary arts. However I was curious to see if you'd recommend any online resources or similar, or if you'd like to see some of what I've written and provide advice? ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 14:49, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you mean by 'sources'. There are a variety of style-books such as the AP style-book ( https://www.apstylebook.com/) out there, but again, I want to point out there is a distinct difference between what you can learn from them and what you may have already learned from the ongoing group-think philosophy of Wikipedia. If you are looking for a mentor from the news-writing industry as a source for advice...especially if it involves writing for Wikipedia...it might be best to write a letter to a particular editor for suggestions, as I believe most take Wikipedia with a grain of salt. ––→ StephenTS42 (talk) 16:02, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

Reversal of auto-archive

The material that had been auto-archived was not "very old" (between 30 and 60 days) and contained unresolved issues; I therefore reversed the archiving per WP:ARCHIVE. Could you please undo your edit? Newimpartial (talk) 16:44, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

@Newimpartial: The bot is actually set to only revert that old of discussions. The last comment was actually 49 days ago. And yes, those conflicts have been settled, on the article itself and subsequent conversations. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 16:48, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
There was an edit conflict there; I meant to say "60 to 90 days"; my bad. Newimpartial (talk) 16:50, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
And 30 days is more than enough, it's actually the default setting, used across many articles. And that talk is waaay too long, it's necessary. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 16:54, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
Well, I'm less confident than you are that the issues raised there are all resolved, but if you feel strongly about that, then could you also restore the equivalent section to Archive 2? Newimpartial (talk) 16:59, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
We're definitely done. We agree upon the demographics section now, and the archives have been set up and are working. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 17:05, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
OK; it was the demographics I was concerned about. The archiving is clearly working fine. ;) Newimpartial (talk) 17:11, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

i did not think it was silly, and that's why I suggested it. It's highly irregular for a user to create pages like that one, which is so obviously not notable and promotional.
Hi there User:Ɱ, getting back to you on this. I added citations showing growth rates in NY counties. Ithaca and Rochester in the old version were listed as places that were growing, new text makes it clear that Ithaca is growing, doesn't make sense to cite Rochester as 0.4% for Monroe County is unremarkable in the up or down direction. If they were examples of decline then they were poorly chosen, counties like Niagara are declining much more. Additionally, the new text clarifies that Saratoga county specifically, within the capital region, is growing. The rest of the capital region is growing below the state average so the verbiage "growing considerably" is hardly appropriate. Link to new edit Before you revert this again, I'd appreciate it if you would consider the guidelines for reverting commits established by the community in Wikipedia:Reverting, specifically the language "Reverting is appropriate mostly for vandalism or other disruptive edits. The Wikipedia edit warring policy forbids repetitive reverting. If you see a good-faith edit which you feel does not improve the article, make a good faith effort to reword instead of reverting it. Similarly, if you make an edit which is good-faith reverted, do not simply reinstate your edit – leave the status quo up, or try an alternative way to make the change that includes feedback from the other editor." I'm working to incorporate your feedback. If you don't believe my edit is abusive then please give me the benefit of the doubt and let's work together to improve the article. --Jmcdon10 (talk) 20:46, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

Your username

Hi Whateveryournameis, please consult the relevant information to ensure that your name complies with the project guidelines on usernames. This is a courtesy message before I take up the matter at the appropriate forum for the attention of admins. Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 18:24, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

@Rui Gabriel Correia: One of the pillars of Wikipedia is civility. Calling me "Whateveryournameis", as well as the general tone of your messages here, fails that. I have been editing as long as you, and at a much higher volume. I know the rules through and through. I've had people complain about my username many times before, and it was adjusted slightly and complies fully. I have administrators that can back me up again with that. I am well-engaged personally in the Wikimedia community, where nobody has issues with it, and many close friends can back me up that it's within policy, and that this may very well be a personal attack. Kindly back off now. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 18:33, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
It is not a question of civility at all; I simply have absolutely no other option but to refer to you as "Whateveryournameis" or some such, as there is no way for me to guess what your user name is - in some places I see a blank square, in others I see two very faint grey vertical paralell lines. As for tone, I am an equally engaged editor, taken seriously wherever I edit, and so I expect to be treated as such and not like a vandal by being reverted just because I removed a large swath of text. If the next has no merit, it has to be removed, regalrdless of how much of it there is. This too is recommended in the project guidelines. Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 18:44, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
As a completely disengaged editor, not taken seriously whatsoever, and commanding no respect, I can definitely say that per WP:NONLATIN, there is no requirement that usernames be in English. TimothyJosephWood 18:49, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
Thank you Timothy. Rui - you could simply omit a direct address, you are, after all, writing to me on my own talk page. I and many others would take your address as rude. If you only see a blank square, that's honestly your problem - switch browsers or change your default font to one that supports Unicode characters. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 19:04, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
Hey , I would like to inform you that this "Rui Gabriel Correia" thing happens to be the only thing that has a problem with your name as far as I know. Everyone else here are fine with your name. In fact, I'm jealous of your name, :'D, I would really love to steal it! ;) In all seriousness though, your name is completely fine. Uniqueness is great, and be proud of it! And to +Rui Gabriel Correia, Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia, not a place to be salty and releasing your anger due to your hard times. Buy a stress ball instead. And before you accuse me of being disrespectful for calling you a "thing," remember that "treat others the way you want to be treated," therefore I'm doing my part, you already did yours. I rest my case. --M.W.B.A.B. (Click here to talk to me!) 00:15, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
Hey Ɱ. How does one type your name besides doing a cut and paste. SlightSmile 01:17, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
Hi Slightsmile. There's very few times this is relevant, especially because you could always address me as M or m (or copy-paste in order to ping). I usually stay logged in so I don't have to type it at all. There is a keyboard shortcut for the characters, though I don't remember it right now... ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 01:29, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

High line

Sorry for the clumsy edit, but I think that a stronger link is needed to both Rail trails, Linear parks and maybe also (and Greenways). Might they be linked as the "main articles"? Rwood128 (talk) 15:08, 25 August 2017 (UTC)

That's not how the "Main" template is meant to be used either... Though I agree that it could be more prominent, perhaps in the first sentence of the lede. I'm away for the extended weekend, perhaps ask Beyond My Ken about this, take another shot, or wait till Tuesday, idk ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 17:23, 25 August 2017 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:BrickFairbuildingstrains.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:BrickFairbuildingstrains.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:48, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

Salmagundi Club

Hi! I was just going by the wiki article, but it's the other way around, the Sketch Club was one of the predecessors of Salmagundi. There is no article for New York Sketch Club. Perhaps you're right. Peter Flass (talk) 20:28, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

@Peter Flass: Yeah but it seems Century was also a predecessor of Salmagundi. Complicated relationships. But yeah the article for the Sketch Club should be created. I would if I had time. But for now, the Sketch club redirect should definitely not go to the Salmagundi article, in my opinion. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 20:34, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

Although this is jointly operated by Metro-North and Amtrak, I have removed the Amtrak header again. The signs at the station are predominately Metro-North signs, and the Amtrak header was only added recently. epicgenius (talk) 18:21, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

@Epicgenius: Was just gonna do this again actually. Thanks for the heads up. I still don't like referring to it as "Poughkeepsie". Nobody does. They may say Harlem-125th St, but they wouldn't say Poughkeepsie - that's the name of the city and the town around it. They call it "the Poughkeepsie (train) station". ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 18:40, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

PbCrO4

The quote is from a WP:TERTIARY source. It is a book series that is super-heavily quoted in the chemistry project. I really dont know what else one could do. If that source is disconcerting, you might take your concerns to a broader forum. We probably have a couple of thousand articles where Ullmann's is the cornerstone ref. I am no fan of lead chromate, but I respect the source. Cheers, --Smokefoot (talk) 03:15, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

@Smokefoot: Did you not do any other research? It seems your source is misleading and inaccurate. Don't respect one source while ignoring the consensus opinion based on heavier research; don't blindly revert and make health claims without actually doing the work. I'm surprised an editor of your experience still would. And please, these discussions are more appropriate on the article talk page. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 03:21, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
How can you possibly ignore a boatload of evidence? Just search for Lead(II) chromate on Google, nearly every result describes it as a carcinogen among other things. I can add refs if you're too busy (I am at the moment). ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 03:26, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
You can do a "boatload" of research on NaCl on Google or dihydrogen monoxide and, for a nontechnical person. The problem is that the results would misleading unless one thinks they already know the answer perforce of their lack of knowledge. Tertiary sources are powerful vehicles of information. One could question any tertiary source to death until the submitting editor caves to the preconcieved judgement of a nonknowledgeable editor. And please do not simply erase statements because you dont know better. --Smokefoot (talk) 03:38, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Jesus Christ. I'm trying to work through this, and you're just insulting my scientific knowledge?!?! Yes I know about all the beauty of tertiary sources, just like any Wikipedian. Wikipedia is one. Stop being so patronizing and do the proper research. Ignore the one book written in 2006 and actually find me other sources that support that uselessly hidden-behind-a-paywall book. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 03:41, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Listen, Wikipedia barely has enough sources for most articles. Unless one is dealing with Elvis. You have somehow located an article with a statement that you dont like that is backed by a tertiary source. Yes, it would be lovely if every statement had multiple tertiary or secondary sources, but Wikipedia is not there yet. Look at the articles in my chemistry area. We are barely hanging on. And when we get an article with multiple references including a tertiary one, we are feeling mighty good. Then we move on and find articles with no good cites or shitty cites, and we upgrade them. But to have someone who apparently knows little about a topic to jump and start demanding multiple support for a statement they dont like? Yes that action ticks me off. So that is where I am coming from. I am building up my sliver of this frigging project with great sources, so yes, I am kind of sensitive.--Smokefoot (talk) 03:52, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Jeez, if you think the chemistry articles are bad you should look at food and beverage articles. Even the most basic ones are horrendous. You could easily pull up multiple reliable online sources I'm sure, but could I on St. Louis Cuisine or Jus de' Volaille Lie? Not a chance. You're not alone, buddy. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 03:55, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
I have done a lot of editing in the food area. It is a problem partly because of sourcing (like I was just ranting about). Hair dyes, deicing, shampoo, toothpaste, baking soda, carbonated drinks, on and on. The intersection of consumer goods and chemistry/physics is a real gap. BTW, Ullmann's is a good source for info on that stuff. But what is really needed are some basic textbooks on food science. The food articles are probably more important than chemistry because readers want to know what they are eating. Well, I need to sleep. Good luck.--Smokefoot (talk) 04:01, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

Hello; I have deprodded Hudson River Watershed and turned the article into a redirect to Hudson River#Watershed. Polyface Farm

Why did you remove my edits on Polyface Farms? My edit summary may have been POV, but the edits were accurate.70.190.102.49 (talk) 23:31, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

@70.190.102.49: Slaughter is a POV term; "killing" works just fine. And the other portion of the quote isn't necessary there. And the source given seems to have him as a strong opponent; that seems fair. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 23:46, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for your response. I am a meat-eater, and I do not think slaughter is POV at all-it is a common descriptor of killing animals specifically for food. The fact that he might justify (or rationalize) "slaughter" of animals on grounds of soullessness does not prove that he would approve of, say, the "killing" of roosters in cockfights. To mention what soullessness means to him (that humans, not animals, will live after death) is to understand what he means when he mentions the "souls" of humans that animals lack. It also sheds light on the way he thinks-one can see how he might see it as OK to slaughter animals but not engage in factory farming (at least in its grossest forms) in view of eternity and the animals' mortality!

Please let me know if you still feel that my edits in this regard were unwarranted.-70.190.102.49 (talk) 05:16, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
