Walkern name origin is wrong There is no evidence of fulling at the time of the foundation of the village.
Historically the name was believed to have been a reference to "wal-cera" a strangers(welsh) dwelling possibly a celtic hermit monk? .
It might also be named from
"well-crowen" Well of crows as this is where the River
The etymology For Walkern proposed " Well of Crows " is based on local wildlife habitat, topology, adjacent place names and local folklore (which should not be dismissed)
