My new user page

[edit]

I got tired of trying to make my own user page, so I copied the source code from yours. :-) I assume you don't mind since I've seen bits and pieces of your user page copied on other pages. Anyway, I've developed a pretty good draft in my sandbox. Feel free to leave any comments or suggestions on my talk page or even make changes if you want to. (Be prepared for some bright colors when you click that link.) Thanks. --TantalumTelluride 06:58, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your comments and for fixing the code. Of course I will give you credit somewhere on the page. I hadn't done that already because I wasn't sure if you might have copied it from someone else, in which case the original creator should have received credit. Anyway, I didn't realize there was a gap between the columns in higher resolutions; I should be able to fix that without too much trouble. I hope you have a good vacation. Thanks again. --TantalumTelluride 22:27, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
Hey again. I've implemented the new page. I think I've worked out most of the bugs. I've also given you credit in a temporary message box. I'll put it somewhere permanently when I remove the messagebox. Please let me know if the page is screwed up in your browser. Once again, thank you very, very much. --TantalumTelluride 23:54, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit]

Hi, got your welcome message, its the 2'nd time I'm getting a message from you: the first was when I registered here and that time too your post was immediate! (Which leads me ask: do you have a bot doing this?) anyway thanks for sending it.

You take breaks like a real Wikipediholic! Like me, you have to at least revert a few cases of blatant vandalism everyday. Sango, just thought I'd explain the above msg which was left on your talk page by 86.42.21.87 (and subsequently removed by Shanel. The IP has vandalized a fair number of articles this evening, for which I had warned them, and to which they had replied on my talk page. I presume the above message was referring to the image you left on my talk page when I gained adminship. Since they continued to vandalize despite warnings, I have given them a 3hr block. Hope that explains things a lil! UkPaolo/talk 22:07, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

Message from Pece Kocovski

[edit]

Hey ther Sango123, how are you, probably not good considering your stress level.

i know wiki is not a online chatline for people but i'm asking you simple questions:

1. what is that "esperanza" thing on you user page?

Esperanza is an association of Wikipedians dedicated to strengthening Wikipedia's sense of community.
See Wikipedia:Esperanza for more. Sango123 (e) 21:52, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

2. Can i ask, on my user page i added alot of userboxes, there is one which i;m not o sure of, its the one about "assumes good faith", does that mean i try to be as nice as possible.

Not exactly. Assuming good faith is about intentions, not actions. Well-meaning people make mistakes, and you should correct them when they do. You should not act like their mistake was deliberate. Correct, but don't scold.
See Wikipedia:Assume good faith for more. Sango123 (e) 21:52, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

3. what is school like in America?

Probably not too different from yours. :) Sango123 (e) 21:52, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

4. is there a page that teaches you how to decorate articles or your user page, etc?

Wikipedia:How to edit a page and Help:Table are helpful pages. Sango123 (e) 21:52, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

see you around. Pece Kocovski 09:15, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

ps: When you add an image, is there a way on an article to make it seem smaller, but it isn't, do you understand, is there a way to do it?

Yes, see Wikipedia:Extended image syntax. For example, typing will produce image #1.
#1
But adding 75px () sets the width of the image, as shown with image #2. Sango123 (e) 21:52, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
#2

also what is that Wikipediholic test thing? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pece Kocovski (talkcontribs)

See this link for the Wikipediholic test. - File:Ottawa flag.png nathanrdotcom (TCW) 07:01, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

what size are the userbox images? 100px or something?

Sango, hope you are doing well and enjoying your semi-break. I am getting ready for one because my mom is coming to visit and haven't seen her in awhile. I wanted to ask if you would take my name off the admin coaching so that the applicants can move up a space and not have to wait so long. It need not be there anyway. Again enjoy the break and thank you for being you.--Dakota ~ ° 07:27, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

Thank you. I would not have attempted to alter that template for fear of corrupting it and out of courtesy. The layout was because the page had grown stale and I admired that image. Thanks again.--Dakota ~ ° 21:39, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

I second that; lots of welcome coming back, even though you didn't really leave (the mark of a true Wikipedian; you take a break from Wikipedia by just working less). It's confusing, but welcome back to full time, at least. And thanks for the welcome into Esperanza; I was thinking, most of my work around here is as an aid and welcomer, so why not join? And here I am now :) Cheers! --M o P E! 21:44, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

I was wondering, would you know of any way to group a bunch of boxbox codes in a displayable manner? I was thinking something along the lines of a table, but no borders. Thanks! --M o P 03:27, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure; but basically the sections either seperate or in organized chunks. The way there are now is flung about the page, which isn't really purdy. Basically, I'm envisioning a "compact" look. Thanks!--M o P 03:46, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

The frak are you talking about? The article looked both like original research (which is against the rules) and a presentation. You provided no souces. The fact that it was deleted by an admin proves that it did not belong.--KrossTalk 18:54, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Improper Deletion

[edit]

Sango - Please help. I tried to start an article on Physical Reality, and posted the first few paragraphs. It was intercepted by KrossTalk while I was editing, followed by an extremely hostile message (later, on Sango Talk), and deleted without any discussion. His message claimed that the article "looked like original research" (which it was not) and a "presentation" (whatever that means), that it "provided no sources" (the post was merely an Introduction; the sources offered later would be Popper and Kuhn). He says that "The fact that it was deleted by an admin proves that it did not belong." That only shows the admin's opinion - which was premature and incorrect. How can I get my article going again? ~~~~

Hello there, Ms.123. I'm not sure how to address you formally, actually. I have some images I'd like to upload. They are licensed under CC 2.5, and I've spoken to the photographer and confirmed that they can be used. They have a small logo in the corner. Is there an official policy stating whether that is preferable? If the photographer is unwilling to provide me with original scans without the logos (large time commitment) can I upload them with the logos? Waarmstr 14:39, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

I have one with your beloved fox and your name on it; it's very simple, but I'm not sure on what to give you. Of course, it has to be green; I've figured that much out. -M o P 22:51, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
Testing.
Green!
I changed the font; however, feel free to ask anything you want for the picture, as I don't want it to look too simple. --M o P 23:04, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

P.S. I changed the font... I'm looking at it right here on my screen... but for some reason Wikipedia won't accept it. -M o P 23:08, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

I have two versions; one with green and one with plain colored. I added snow, which is, ironically, a mistake; I was trying to darken some shadows with the paint brush on Color, and I acidentally started painting the bevelled text layer; voila, snow. Hope it's good! --M o P 05:59, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Request your Help

[edit]

I hope I find you well, I have a request: I have been reverting entries made by a few new users on the article Romila Thapar. We have had a bitter dispute on the talk page of that article. The whole matter is a over a wording of a few sentences that would pretty much bias a reader into making a POV on the historian. Recently a user signed up with a counter vandalism unit, User:The Patroller, has reverted the article back to what is to me their POV edits. Could you, as an admin, please check this out. (I have asked one other admin User:Gurubrahma to help out too, hope thats ok) --hydkat(talk) 21:07, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Combining Wikipedia entries

[edit]

Thank you for the invitation to bug yuh about things Wiki. I like the new green you! It's a pleasant look, especially in the midst of this gray Michigan March!

I am sort of adopting the Burnt Church First Nation area as an especial spot of interest for working with all of you. I have noticed a few things and was wondering who I contact and how I go about requesting some combinations and modifications.

1) Burnt Church, New Brunswick should actually be an allowable separate article. It is a non-native community butting right up against the Burnt Church First Nation reserve, but is an entity in its own right.

2) It would be nice if "Burnt Church First Nation, New Brunswick" and "Burnt Church 14, New Brunswick" could get folded into the "Burnt Church First Nation, New Brunswick" article alone. They are one and the same. Could the phrase "Burnt Church 14" or the full "Burnt Church 14, New Brunswick" get cross-referenced or would that be taken care of simply by using the phrase in the Burnt Church First Nation article, thus being able to be caught by the search engine?

3) Am I allowed to change a "stub" label? Or is it best to leave alone? Although the Burnt Church First Nation article is indeed Canada based, it is more specifically a "New Brunswick geographical article" as I have noticed other New Brunswick articles labelled. (just curious - I'm learning...)

-- Esgenoopetitj-talk

(And why is the format of my signature attempt not posting the date and time once the article is saved? Sooooorr-eeeeee.)

Categories Question

[edit]

Thanks for your help with the image question posted a few days ago. I have another for you. Why is the order wrong on Category:Churches_by_city? I created the category Churches in Philadelphia, and put a few churches into the cateogry. However, it is listed under C for church, not P for Philadelphia (see Churches in Paris). Do I need to force the reordering? I was looking here, but couldn't understand what to change. Waarmstr 15:45, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

I wonder, but how does an administrater know so quickly that an user such as myself had made a change? By the way, I believe this is a discussion page associated with admin user:Sango123. Reeves 20:33, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

Yes, of course it is. They either watch the history of recently changed pages or they have users on their watchlists. - File:Ottawa flag.png nathanrdotcom (TCW) 21:10, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

The admin Sango123 explains briefly that the monitering program is based on the IRC channel. Reeves 22:51, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

That confuses me. *pokes Sango123 with a stick for a clearer answer* - File:Ottawa flag.png nathanrdotcom (TCW) 23:37, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
Hey... *pokes nathanrdotcom back* Reeves was referring to my reply here (on User talk:Reeves), where I mentioned recent changes and IRC, but thanks for bringing up watchlists as well. I hadn't thought of that. :) Regards, Sango123 (e) 00:42, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

I have a confession, I am probably never going to make an article, why, because I am lazy and I can't think of anything to write about that hasn't been written about. It has that effect on me as well, and considering I generally don't like people, it's a welcome change to come to a community such as this (I've gone from generally disliking people to disliking people who deserve it, which is progress) - File:Ottawa flag.png nathanrdotcom (TCW) 23:36, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

Oh, ok, thanks! I'm just wondering how to deal with such things. Also, if I have reasonable evidence that an IP is related to another vandal, can I put him up for blocking? (for example, the recent personal attacker, who has a new IP, 70.49.240.201) -M o P 19:12, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Wikiprojects

[edit]

I've got a question concerning WP, so I hope you could give some info.

Are there any restrictions concerning creating Wikiprojects? To be specific, I've got an idea of slightly organizing a number of editors interested in TES games and forming some decisions about articles structure and roadmaps. Not actually a community, just a common page for discussions.

Due to small number of such organizations in the lists I've seen, though, I'm not sure if this doesn't violate policies or traditions. Could you give some comments about how appropriate is it? CP/M 21:25, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your advice, I wasn't sure about the matter. I thought about common games project, but the issue is specific to linking and common style between many articles. I guess such a Wikiproject should just be made a subproject of CVG.CP/M 23:59, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Problems with IP-addressed vandal

[edit]

Hi Sango123, please could you help me, or at least advise, on this vandal? User:4.43.102.66 and User:69.249.66.73 keep editing the page on Geoffrey Fisher to change his middle name to "Worth". I don't know why, I really don't get the joke! The fact that it's always the same act of vandalism makes me think it's the same person. The first of those two IP addresses has also vandalised (or made silly edits to) various other pages, as you can see from the User contributions page.

Today, 4.43.102.66 added "Worth" in two places, then changed one of them back to try to hide the fact it was still in there!

Could you issue an official warning, with a view to blocking the IP address? I can't see that anyone has even made a useful contribution from those IPs!

Thanks, JRawle 18:22, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for blocking him. I could have thrown my iBook out of the window. Budgiekiller 20:40, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Since you so kindly started my talk page and offered help, I thought I'd take you up on it.

I'm having trouble getting the link in my signature to work correctly. I'm attempting to pipe a link to "User:Rholliday" with the word "rholliday" out of consistency vanity, however I always end up with a bold black non-link. I couldn't help but notice your impressively varied signature, but though I attempt to emulate it, it does not work. What I am trying is <i>rholliday</i>

Any suggestions?

Wow. As soon as I tried it on a page other than my user page, it worked ... very odd. Well, thanks anyway. :)

Well, that makes perfect sense, thanks for the update. I've change my signature to conform, I think. I did not see any mention on proper use of color, so I hope plain <font> tags are alright.

Also, will the time always display as UTC, despite what I set in my preferences?

ni hao Sango, how are you? I've posted my replies on the coaching page, thank you for your time and effort! with kind regards Gryffindor 19:52, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

xie xie. At the moment I can't think of any other topic. Do you think I should give request for sysop a shot, or is there anything else I need to know right now under all circumstances? Gryffindor 01:12, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
dear Sango123, thank you for your help. my candidature is up and running, I would love to hear your comments :-) xie xie Gryffindor 14:05, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

My edits weren't vandalism in any way. Starless and bible black 22:25, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

You think the above vandal user might be intended as an impersonator of you? --Syrthiss 23:59, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

I am not an imposter. I took the name Sanka123 becase the first thing that poped into my head as far as user names when I was regestering for Wikipedia was the coffee drink Sanka —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.178.194.34 (talkcontribs) 00:38, 26 March 2006

Blocker!

[edit]
On completing 500 blocks (& yes Nathan's not the only stalker "evil laugh"), I hereby award you this stop sign. May you stop many more villains besmirching our fair encyclopedia (yes I know I've been reading a lot of Shakespeare lately!)

Keep up the good work

Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 00:43, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

 • Yes, put that stop sign somewhere safe so nobody trips on it. ;) — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 01:38, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Subpages of articles

[edit]

I'm sure this isn't allowed, and indeed on Wikipedia:Subpages it says subpages can't be created for articles. But you can see how it's been used in the article on British Summer Time: there is a table of dates, and a link to view it reserved, which leads to British Summer Time/Reverse. I guess this is simply a page with a slash in the title, as it was created last August (after subpages were disabled). But surely this page should be at Start and end dates of British (and Irish) Summer Time or something?

(This is very topical at the moment as my computer's just skipped the necessary hour – I really should be in bed at this time...) JRawle (Talk) 01:23, 26 March 2006 (UTC) or 02:23, 26 March 2006 (BST)

Thanks yet again Sango123. I'd never have known how to do that hide/show bar – I'll look into it when I'm a bit fresher! Have a nice evening! JRawle (Talk) 01:48, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

My user page

[edit]

Thank you for the revert. tv316 02:49, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

I was going through my watchlist and came by a vandal. Checked his history, and it turns out he vandalized my page, and I didn't even know it. Thanks again. tv316 23:46, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

As you asked on his talk page, here's the mention that Gryffindor's RfA is up and running. I wanted to tell you before he did so there's no questions of him trying to advertise his own RfA. Great job again in those admin coaching sessions. Take care, JHMM13 (T | C) 03:38, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

80's night

[edit]

Why did you delete this page? Granted, the content was written in a somewhat flippant tone, but 80's night is genuine, national phenomenon and as such I think deserves cataloguing. Perhaps there is some other place you think it would be better described than in it's own page?

Thanks, Eric

Image Deletion

[edit]

Hi Sango,

Images I uploaded to Wikipedia when I was new at Wikipdia (*reminiscing* "oh those were the days!") are now mostly redundant. All but the nelson pic are orphans & should be deleted. I hope you can do it soon.

Thanks

Srikeit(talk ¦ ) 07:52, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

 • Actually, you can do this yourself. Just edit the image and add a delete tag and some kind admin will come along and 'speedily delete' them. — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 08:00, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks...

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1

[edit]
Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
 1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
 2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
 3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
 4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
 5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
 6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
 7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
 8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

Permission

[edit]

Hi! I have a question about the "creating your own wiki" thing. I want to make a Spongebob Squarepants fanstuff wiki, and maybe a Cheesemail wiki (It's like Strongbad email.exe) Do I have to get permission from the creators to do this? Cheesia EDIT: Hello? Cheesia EDIT: Umm... hello? Cheesia

My RfA

[edit]

My RfA recently closed and it was a success, passing at 84-02-00. I would like to thank you for taking the time to weigh in and on your subsequent support. And I know it's quite cliche, but if you ever need any assistance and/or want another opinion on something, grab a Pepsi and don't hesitate to drop me a line on my talk page. Thanks again. Pepsidrinka 05:15, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Well, it was kinda cute, so couldn't resist. But you caught me, eventually. --Andy123(talk) 06:14, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

A patronising welcome

[edit]

"Thanks for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do" was the "welcome" message I received from you. Unfortunately, I've no idea what you're talking about, having done no testing. Birdhurst 13:23, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Re: Geoffrey Fisher vandal

[edit]

I actually received an e-mail from someone claiming to know the vandal! Apparently they have a classmate called Geoffrey Worth Fisher, and thought it was funny to change the article to that. They seem to have given up on that now, but unfortunately have moved on to vandalising other articles. I'm keeping an eye on them. JRawle (Talk) 14:52, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Monobook

[edit]

Hey Sango, I was wondering if I was doing the javascript right on my monobook. I'm familiar with javascripts on HTML, but not on Wikipedia... —Mirlen 04:08, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Sango :). Instead of typing in &-mdash; , I can just type in -- and it's automatically suppose turn into —, right? --Mirlen 05:06, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
'Night, but slight problem. It's not working :P. --Mirlen 05:06, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
I get it now, yeah, it's working (and I'm learning). Also, where do I change my status? Is a tab suppose to appear somewhere on the page? Sorry if I'm asking a lot of questions, just bear with this javascript newbie of a girl! Oh, and thanks—I'm really honored that a great designer like you should like mine's :). (And I really do mean it with all my honor! Btw, I'm on Firefox right now, and your userpage looks way coole (not that it didn't look cool in IE, mind you)—I didn't know the edges wouldn't round off in IE). Oh yeah, may I steal your 'Show archived discussion' layout—except I'll use the headings I'm using on my userpage to keep it formatted with my layout... —Mirlen 23:42, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
Okay, that means I'll need the code for the toolbox as well. *looks over at unfinished homework* Better work on that first and then start with the js. Thanks, Sango for letting me steal ;). —Mirlen 23:56, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
Um, no, the status changer isn't appearing. Gosh, am I being a bit bothersome in my troubles? —Mirlen 03:42, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
Thank you, Sango, for your kind words, actions, and patience. And for bearing with this user with her lack of js knowledge and helping her through with it. 감사합니다 :). Mirlen
Thank you so much, Sango! It's working now :). Here's a rose your troubles:
Thanks for the chocolate as well. Anyway, I don't know if you can read the characters, but it's one of the ways to say 'Thank you' in Korean. —Mirlen 04:01, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Chocolates

[edit]
For Sango & Company

Hi Sango, thanks. After 31st March 2006, I shall request you to design my page, provided you are free – there is no hurry right now. And, I am sending some chocolates to you – let us commence the Anniversary celebrations right now. BTW, please do not use them all, please keep some for your friends. --Bhadani 16:15, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

Do I count as a friend Sango? Hehe ;). *eyes the white chocolate* —Mirlen 23:44, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
But Sango, you should have the first bite since it is your chocolate. Then I shall take mine's. :) *waits for Sango to eat first* —Mirlen 23:57, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
I'm afraid I'm a slow learner. Please, I really insist, you must take the chocolate first. (I'm doing this for politeness, y'know. It's because I feel that you deserve to have the first bite). —Mirlen 03:43, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:StatChanger-right.png. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 00:45, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Hmmm, thought the source would be clear from the image content. Fixed now, thanks for letting me know. Sango123 (e) 00:56, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
