I nominated your Wildlife of South Sudan for DYK. From what I can see it is no longer compulsory to review another article. I've asked Tony. If this is the case then nominating now is actually easier. Not happy with the current environment though, it can only get better now...♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:36, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Miscel. its a bit weird to write about such diverse habitats. I mean it makes no sense to talk about the Wildlife of Anguilla in the same article as the Wildlife of Antarctica for instance. We'd be better off doing a Wildlife of Antarctica (including the southern islands) and a Wildlife of the Caribbean.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:52, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Online Ambassadors: Time to join pods

[edit]

Hello! If you're planning to be an active Online Ambassador for the upcoming academic term, now is the time to join one or more pods. (A pod consists of the instructor, the Campus Ambassadors, and the Online Ambassadors for single class.) The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) explains the expectations for being part of a pod as an Online Ambassador. (The MOU for pods in Canada is essentially the same.) In short, the role of Online Ambassadors this term consists of:

  • Working closely with the instructor and Campus Ambassadors, providing advice and perspective as an experienced Wikipedian
  • Helping students who ask for it (or helping them to find the help they need)
  • Watching out for the class as a whole
  • Helping students to get community feedback on their work

This replaces the 1-on-1 mentoring role for Online Ambassadors that we had in previous terms; rather than being responsible for individual students (some of whom don't want or help or are unresponsive), Online Ambassadors will be there to help whichever students in their class(es) ask for help.

You can browse the upcoming courses here: United States; Canada. More are being added as new pods become active and create their course pages.

Once you've found a class that you want to work with—especially if you some interest or expertise in the topic area—you should sign the MOU listing for that class and get in touch with the instructor. We're hoping to have at least two Online Ambassadors per pod, and more for the larger classes.

If you're up for supporting any kind of class and would like me to assign you to a pod in need of more Online Ambassadors, just let me know.

Update on courses and ambassador needs

[edit]

Hello, Ambassadors!

I wanted to give you one last update on where we are this term, before my role as Online Facilitator wraps up at the end of this week. Already, there are over 800 students in U.S. classes who have signed up on course pages this term. About 40 classes are active, and we're expecting that many more again once all the classes are up and running.

On a personal note, it's been a huge honor to work with so many great Wikipedians over the last 15 months. Thanks so much to everyone who jumped in and decided to give the ambassador concept a try, and double thanks those of you who were involved early on. Your ideas and insights and enthusiasm have been the foundation of the program, and they will be the keys the future of the program.

Courses looking for Online Ambassadors

[edit]

Still waiting to get involved with a class this term, or ready to take on more? We have seven classes that are already active and need OA support, and eleven more that have course pages started but don't have active students yet. Please consider joining one or more of these pods!

Active courses that really need Online Ambassadors:

Good morning, Char. It's finally happened... I've finally caught up with you with my 505th DYK, Val-Saint-Lambert Abbey. I dedicate it to you. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:06, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

Rosie, my heartiest congratulations for your 505th DYK. My deepest appreciation and thanks for dedicating it to me. I am now in San Diego since the 30th August and will be here till 7th November. I will start editing on new DYKs shortly. Warm Regards.--Nvvchar. 14:32, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

Great to hear from you. You might be interested in collaborating with us on some articles on Alcatraz including Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary, Alcatraz Cellhouse and Alcatraz Citadel.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:03, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

I can't wait to collaborate with you again! --Rosiestep (talk) 01:27, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, Rosie and Dr. Blofeld. I have started adding to the articles on Alcatraz suggested by DR. B. I will be posting more articles shortly. The delay is due to my laptop crashing after coming here.--Nvvchar. 01:37, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Welcome! Yes if you could google/google book search Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary/prison history the history needs work. There's a wealth of info on http://www.alcatrazhistory.com/rock/rock-027.htm, just keep clicking "Next" at the bottom although I've added mostly what I thought relevant. But there's more details on prison life here. List of Alcatraz escape attempts most notable ones can be added to the escapes section of the history I think. The lower sections will be condensed later.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:55, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

The citadel is pre 1933, it didn't become the hole with D-block etc until 1934. You're confusing the penitentiary with the citadel. The information you added is entirely about the penitentiary!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:12, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

The Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary article needs most work on escape attempts and notable inmates. I've sorted the reference with sfn notes so if you find more book sources please add them to the bibliography. I intend nominating this for GA once we are done as I think it will reach GA once the escape attempts and notable inmates sections are fully written.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:15, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

I have found new references and will add more text on the issues raised by you.--Nvvchar. 21:35, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Thankyou, its terrific to have you back! You might find more on Stewart Iron Works.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:01, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Yes if you could add a table for the notable inmates like I've done for the wardens this would be ideal. If photos are needed I can crop the montage into individuals like the wardens.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:20, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Rufe Persful might interest you, needs more sources.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:35, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

I also started Fakanau which you might find enough for DYK for and can go towards our A-Z!.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:00, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! A couple of things though. Can you format dates as 8 September 2012 etc and can you avoid ref bunching at the end of paragraphs. A lot of my GA reviews reviewers have said to avoid ref bunching and to add citations after facts in sentences throughout the paragraphs rather than just the end. The notable inmates section is good but they'd be best researched in google books which is likely to contain better quality info. I always turn to google books first.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:19, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

Agree... quite an experience... but actually a bit creepy for me the couple of times that I've been there. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:43, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Creepy to say the least! I got a terrible feeling about the place even approaching it by boat! Thanks for your edits Nvv, we can nom later. Can you though have a browse of http://www.historyarchive.com/az1212.pdf and try to extract info from it. It has a lot of stuff on the rules and regulations, info which could be added to the prison life section.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:49, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Yes, although it might not be until tomorrow. I don't think its a good idea having a UK territories one though as the fauna will range dramatically around the world. I think it would be better splitting and having a Wildlife of Bermuda, Wildlife of Belize, Wildlife of the South Shetland Islands etc.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:15, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

And three more cheers from me! Welcome back amigo! Can you check the spelling differences of Kerevat and Keravat Airfield? Thx --Rosiestep (talk) 15:05, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

Google book search by far show Kerevat to be the most widely used spelling, although the US spelled it Keravat.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:57, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

I've completed my inputs to Vacha Dam. Couldn't find much in English. I've invited User talk:TodorBozhinov, our resident Bulgarian to join in. I've made a start on Palacio de Velázquez. Lots of red links; I sniff a multiple DYK with the 1883 exposition and the main architects perhaps, all of which have articles on Spanish wiki.

something like DYK that the Palacio de Velázquez was built by architect Ricardo Velázquez, engineer Alberto del Palacio, and ceramist Daniel Zuloaga, in time for hosting the Exposición Nacional de Minería of November 1883?♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:21, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

Are you enjoying the editing Nvv?♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:11, 11 September 2012 (UTC) Of course Dr. B.--Nvvchar. 20:50, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

I think the town and the airfield should be changed to Keravat (from Kerevat) based on ghits. Your thoughts? --Rosiestep (talk) 14:37, 12 September 2012 (UTC) I agree.--Nvvchar. 14:53, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Government of Papua New Guinea spells it Kerevat.[1] UNESCO spells it Kerevat [2] Look again in google books. The actual hits for Keravat are much less than that of Kerevat despite what it appears bring up in the figure?. Not to mention Kerevat is the spelling used by google and formal geonames entries on it. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:42, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Hehe, Nvv remember our Phallus paintings in Bhutan article? You may wish to add to Phallic architecture which I spotted on Carptrash's user page. planned DYK hook "DYK that the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Pisa, Italy, dating from around 1173, has long suffered with erection problems....?. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:21, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

MobileReference is actually wikipedia derived, ignore it as a source. If you are interested in the phallic article I have a list of JSTOR sources which I can send to you by email but you'll need to state which ones you want to access.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:42, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

If its architectural yes, mention Indian. Email me and I'll response with the 300 or so JSTOR sources. But you'll have to contact User:Bgwhite to access the full articles which you want and he'll send them to you. I've applied for JSTOR access myself. I strongly recommend you apply for WP:Highbeam, WP:JSTOR and WP:Credo. Highbeam is a newspaper archive and has enabled me to access many valuable sources, especially on film related articles. I've put in a request to an editor who doesn't want his credo research account to donate it to you, so just apply for the Highbeam and JSTOR. We could add Royal Factory of La Moncloa to the DYK set..♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:20, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Andy the Grump reverted your initial edits to phallic and has complained on the talk page. Email me and I'll send you the JSTOR links to decent sources.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:50, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

I've forwarded the JSTOR sources to you by email. If you want particular sources out of them ask Bgwhite for them OK? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:32, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

I reverted him. I'm too tired today to edit it, thanks for your work. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:39, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

GA review for Alcatraz Penitent. Can you add a source to " Several riots did break out in the dining hall during Alcatraz's history. Those prisoners who were not involved in the fighting hid under under the dining hall tables to escape possible gunfire." at the bottom of security section as asked by reviewer?♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:04, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

  • Done. I had originally ref that sentence when I wrote it; ref is back in place. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:42, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
    • Thanks, I was searching for it. --Nvvchar. 18:33, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

Can you think of a new multi hook for the load of Madrid buildings/biographies then? Bachwoche Ansbach DYK elligibility runs out today. I was thinking a multi hook with some of the venues, namely the Orangerie in the Hofgarten, the great hall in the palace Markgrafenschloß, and the churches St. Johannis Church and St. Gumbertus Church and Theater Ansbach. If you view the Ansbach article the Gumbertus looks nice. The official website has a summary of them to start with:

[3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]

I've nommed Vacha Reservoir.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:51, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

I've started the buildings but please don't edit them until Gerda has proof read them. Markgrafenschloß of Ansbach is still missing though. Best to google search with Ansbach as I think there's a few palaces of that name in Germany. I'll nom this evening anyway to meet the deadline but they'll need work over the next few days.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:33, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. Please don't edit the other articles yet though as it will affect the proof reading that Gerda will do. Let Gerda edit them first. In the meantime you could prepare more text in your sandbox to add to them later. I've resumed on the Phallus article. I will co nominate you once I'm done. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:31, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

Turns out Markgrafenschloß is Residenz Ansbach. I've merged and attributed yourself. Gerda and I have decided to split and nom the buildings at a later date which you are of course invited to help with. Check to see if each article has been proofed by her first though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:52, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Nvv, can you expand Haesindang Park (Penis Park). I can think of a suitable hook to go with the Phallic architecture article.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:19, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Go ahead and nom those articles. I think its the image which as a problem as I couldn't do it either.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:31, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Click, "nominate an article" on the main page. Enter the name of the article in the box scrolling down. Remove "Article title in plain text; no [[ ]]" entriely and add the article name. In turn remove the text from the name section and enter. After adding the hook and authors click save. Copy and paste the whole nom title at the top of the page,. Go back to the nom page on the relevant date, paste in the title with a {{ around it and click save. Done. Then just add the QPQ. Thanks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:18, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Just place it in the date with teh {{ around it like the other, it adds the cat automatically.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:54, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. It is done--Nvvchar. 17:20, 20 September 2012 (UTC).

Thanks, nice work on the Ghana article, ask Rosie to see if she can add more from those sources. I don't think we've done a Ghana one, it could go towards the A-Z we were doing if you wish to revive it. Another Bulgarian needed I think.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:45, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I am working on a Bulgarian article which I will post tomorrow.--Nvvchar. 03:09, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
I've finished up with Agyen Kokobo, though it's smaller now than when I started work on it... LOL... but there's more detail about the man himself. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:23, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the noms and QPQs. You might find more for Solomon Islands dance. What do you reckon for Honiara, can we manage a 5 times expansion do you think?♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:32, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

You might find more for Queen Elizabeth's corgis. I reached Page 5 in google books under the search Queen Elizabeth corgis. You could try searching Elizabeth corgi or looking further than this. Also Highbeam the newspaper archive I think will likely have a lot of hits. If there's any articles you want let me know.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:16, 21 September 2012 (UTC) ‎

Yes, liked your suggestion. I tweaked it a bit, and then nomed Agyen Kokobo. Thx! --Rosiestep (talk) 01:57, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

And nomed Solomon Islands dance. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:01, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

I think you could add it, but the img would have to be cleared, so I'd suggest to just leave as is. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:26, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Found a great Australia-based newspaper archive http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/ . But it appears to be a tremendous resource generally for things also out of Australia. Bristol Hotel, Gibraltar was expanded by it; those sources didn't pick up on google. I think we need to look for more newspaper archives and research engines as google books is spectacular of course but by no means to be all and end all of information gathering. I think I'll list em on my user page. The biggest archive is http://newspaperarchive.com/ but you need a subscription to view the articles. Nonetheless it looks gigantically productive and will likely turn up snippets which can be used in articles.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:55, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

I've begun expanding Honiara, I think we can make a x5 expansion. Reached end of page 9 in google book search Honiara. You might more, especially on the 1942 battle and each of the landmarks mentioned by google searching them could be expanded to have sub sections on things like the museum, hotel, botanical garden, caves, and others. Try not to waffle too much on the 1942 battle and paste in half the FA article we have on it but it should be covered in a paragraph or two. Also newspapers google searching should have a fair bit to elaborate more on the 1998-2006 violence. Looking on google maps will also identify further landmarks for mention and specific churches.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:48, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Tsankov Kamak Hydro Power Plant: wow!!! I'll work on it this evening and try to sort out those page numbers for the Joint Implemenation and Clean Mechanism Project, Project Design Documents" ref. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:42, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Good hook on the corgis. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:02, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

I gave Tsankov Kamak Hydro Power Plant a considerable cut. Great work but I found it very difficult to read. I think the prose is still a five times expansion. Comprehension and concision are of equal importance to encyclopedia articles I think. Articles need to flow and be easily readable by anybody.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:41, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

See what you can add to the short sections of the landmarks of Honiara and we'll see how much is needed if any after you've done to consider DYK.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:46, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Good job so far on the churches!! WOuld be good to get hold of some quality flickr images like [9] [10] Perhaps we could put in some requests? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:09, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Can you remember to update User:Dr. Blofeld/DYK A-Z country challenge? Quite a few entries like Papua New Guinea have been exxluded since you returned. Just looking back through them, we've already accomplished a lot, much more to come!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:54, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Scroll back here, lots more info on Honiara landmarks. I'm planning on a GA with it once done, so try your best! Phallic architecture article is now a GA candidate.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:07, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Great work Nvv! I'll see if Rosie can add anything, if not I'll nom before deadline. Yes the geography section looks a bit short. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:21, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Start as many temples within the site as possible which an article is appropriate for, we could have a large multiple one on this. Kabutarkhana, Maqbara, Maqbara Mandvi, Maqbara near Patidar Village, Malik Sandal Ni Vav, Hathikhana, Sindh Mata, Sikander Ka Reuza, Babakhan Ki Dargah, Nau Kuan Sat Vavdi, and Chandrakala Vav could all have articles if there is enough info.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:55, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

@Char & @Dr. B: please add to this bulleted list as you create new articles within the scope of the park so we all know what to work on. If you're working on a particular article, put the construction template on it so we don't edit over each other. For the sake of efficiency, I also suggest that we put all comments related to this park project on this talkpage, vs. on my talkpage or Dr. B's, so no one misses anything or has to look at multiple talkpages. Lastly: for any new additional articles regarding this park, keep the article concise, meets the dyk guidelines, then leave it alone, and move on to the next article within the scope of the park. Ok? --Rosiestep (talk) 19:28, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

  1. Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park - expansion started Sept 27 (let's keep an eye on this)
  2. Monuments of Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park
  3. Kalika Mata Temple, Pavagadh
  4. Pavagadh Hill
  5. Jama Masjid, Champaner
  6. Kevada Masjid, Champaner, also known as Kevda or Kewda
  7. Nagina Masjid, Champaner
  8. Bawaman Mosque, also known as Bava Man's
  9. Lila Gumbaj Ki Masjid, Champaner

Let's all comment here on this. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:32, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

There is already an old article on Pavagarh of about 5000 ch. To exapnd it will be difficult. However, Pavagardh Hill as a separate article may invite comments for merging (I have faced this situation in my early stages of editing on wiki). Please see if we should start a new one now. We can start with Jami Masjid and also Jambugodha Wild Life Sanctuary which is close to Pavagadh. Other articles suggested by DR. B have hardly any texts to create new articles for even DYK. I will be back after about 3 hours to start on the Mosque. Can we repeat all the history section of the Park on Pavagadh in the Pavgarh Hill article, and also about the legend about the hill, which was deleted earlier as not relevant to the park.?--Nvvchar. 19:50, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
The Pavagadh Hill article is almost done; I think it's a relevant geography article. Content could be added about the two rivers that rise there, briefly already mentioned, and anything else dealing with geography/geology. Probably legends about the hill could be in the hill article, too. I think anything related to man's history at hillfort Pavagadh should be in the hillfort article, including all the buildings; no way can we expand Pavagadh to 5x. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:54, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
I've completed by edits to Jama Masjid, Champaner; it needs a bit more. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:55, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Is Jama Masjid, Pavagadh the same building?♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:59, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

I think it is the same. Look at the list of buildings on the Park page; only one Jama building is listed. Note, I named the article Jama Mas, Champ as it's located in the town at the bottom of the hill. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:00, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Not sure if we can find enough text to have articles on each of the main monuments. If not we could add the summaries to that article.

What about one article on the fort/walls/gates... maybe something like Champaner fort, though I think the fort has an actual name. There isn't enough on any particular wall or gate or the fort, but maybe lumping them together would work? I have some fam stuff to do for a bit. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:41, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Yes, or even better a Monuments of Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park general article and if there is enough info branch out into sub articles, if not summarize there?♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:21, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Later this morning, I'll work on the ones I haven't touched yet. I added alt names to above list. @Char: Regarding the differing measurements for Pava Hill height, I'd recommend we go with the UNESCO measurement (does UNESCO give a measurement for it?), and add that other sources have put it at X, or Y, or Z. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:50, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

@Char - Let me know when you want to take a 5 minute break from the Monuments article. I'd like to add more subheaders. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:41, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

@Dr B. - What do you think about making Jama Masjid, Pavagadh a redirect to Jama Masjid, Champaner? --Rosiestep (talk) 19:45, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Sure, merge em!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:11, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Done. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:04, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
I have added one more article to the above list. I will create it now. Please read this article which highlihhts this site [11] even in Universities in USA. You may like to chose some text (@Dr B and @Rosie) from this article for our artciles. The picture of Kali temple seems to be of the Kali Temple in Champaner and at Pavagarh Hill. I have find the proper one now.--Nvvchar. 22:05, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Yes, the University of Illinois article is lovely; glad to know there's ongoing work on trails and signage. Regarding the Lila mosque, I don't know how much more material is available other than the paragraph in the Monuments article; I'll google it some more later today. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:01, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Hook1 suggestion: ... that the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park contains dozens of monuments, including several the Bawaman, Jama, Kevada, Lila Gumbaj, and Nagina mosques, as well as the Kalika Mata Temple atop Pavagadh Hill? --Rosiestep (talk) 00:44, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

I seeing a lot of repetitiveness. Suggest that if there's a bluelink to one of these buildings, then the Park article and the Monuments article should have no more than a handful of sentences about that particular building. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:44, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Hook1 is fine. I am too tired today to do any more new articles. I have changed the photo in the Kalika Mata Temple, Pavagadh. Please have a look at the Lila Gumbaj Ki Masjid, Champaner also for any editing issues. --Nvvchar. 00:51, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
  • They say a picture is worth a thousand words... the new photo of the Kalika Mata temple sure puts a perspective on the temple's location. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:00, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Yes, very true. That is the reason for my invariably fixing images in our DYK hooks. --Nvvchar. 03:07, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Hook looks good, some of the repetitive text could be cut a little maybe. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:38, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Let's wrap up Champaner today and nom by tonight.

I have completed my editing on the nine articles. Hook suggested above would be fine and posted on DYK with an img of the Kalika Mata Temple. Excellent suggestion by you and Rosie to make it a 9 artmulti article DYK. Ghost stories of SFA are interesting. I will work on it. I am also working on Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram and add text in the next few days.--Nvvchar. 15:27, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Nommed, looking good. Done 4 QPQs, another 5 needed between you and Rosie. I do like mulit hooks like this. I am into Islamic architecture at the moment. Lets do a few mosques of some Arab world countries. First one I want to expand is Hassan II Mosque for which I will also invite Almeer son to contribute. Rosie can you check the rough translation for Hassan II Mosque? Phallic architecture is now a GA.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:24, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. I will do the QPQ in the evening. I am now working on the Ghost article. On Islamic countries articles, I would request you to choose old articles for expansion which have about only 3000 ch or new articles. Congrats for the GA. You are great. I don't take credit for this as my contribution was minimal even at the DYK stage.--Nvvchar. 20:10, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. Yes will chose some mosques, are you still up for the DYK A-Z country thing? It needs updating. i'll see if Rosie can proof reading the French translation for the mosque, if info is then unsourceable it can be removed. There should be enough info available for it, it was 6kb to start with. Iran I think. YOu might find more on Khalid Nabi Cemetery and Imamzadeh Hamzah, Tabriz. Blue whale penis might interest you, yes, the hook would be pretty obvious. OK, how about Koutoubia Mosque or Ertuğrul Gazi Mosque and Independence Monument, Ashgabat? Problem is a lot of sources are in Turkish.. But Koutoubia should have a lot of sources.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:51, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

You might remember the Jamaica Inn. I just watched Jamaica Inn (film) and hands down I think its possibly the worst film I've ever seen. Jamaica Inn (novel) on the other hand, one of the best I've read. And to think a director of Alfred Hitchcock's calibre who later became renowned for his atmospheric thrillers directed it. It couldn't be further from the atmopshere of the book and how old Cornwall should be. It should be rough sea faring pirates in an old inn with creaky boards and cold stone walls. In place we can Charles Laughton a camp pompous landlord who looks like he's an aristocratic in wealthy London and all speaking with posh accents and most of the film light hearted, far removed from the tension of the novel. Dreadful, dreadful film, somebody should remake it and do it justice. Its like they never read the book or history of the inn. Couldn't be further from how it should be. The film is a cinematic sin!! Not surprised Du Maurier and Hitchock both hated it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:04, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Some pointers

[edit]

Nvv, don't take this the wrong way but I've noticed the same issues cropping up in each article. Length is not nearly so important as concision, clear structure, and readability. So adding text which is not really relevant or hard to read doesn't really help the article, even if it becomes the required length for a 5 times expansion. To me it seems as if you don't take the time and care to read the articles before you edit them so as a result when you add text you regularly repeat what has been said with different wording, with the pre-Toljan's case three times and replicating the source I'd already used. It makes it a little tedious then to begin to copyedit. You have the tendency to repeat yourself and often don't seem to identify that info in different sources are actually referring to the same thing, so I'll commonly see the information replicated in a different form in lower paragraphs which affect the flow and structure. Concerning to me is that you don't seem to spot the obvious ones. Rosie had to put in a tremendous amount of work yesterday to structure Koutubia and you didn't seem to notice you had given three different measurements of the height of the mosque. If we are striving for accuracy and for editors to believe the content as such we can't afford to make such grave errors and need to do the research to find out which is likely correct. I think you need to slow down and to carefully read the articles first and after you've written, you often miss typos and obvious ref formatting errors. Structure and coherence is far more important than length and I think its skills you need to develop as an editor, even if you are essentially a fine contributor in terms of finding content and interesting information. A good to way to improve this would be to collaborate over some GAs, select a few Indian temples or something you want to promote and in the preparation for it you'll gradually regain some of the skills you had for article structure and focus. Naturally I'd assist you in the process and overlook your work before nominating. Occasional errors are normal, I and everybody here is guilty of it, so I was told yesterday that google maps produced errors in a Gibraltar street article. But its the structure and readability and focus I'd like to see improvements from you in. Regards.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:32, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

I hope you don't think I'm being too harsh. Your content additions are very good of course and productive, but I think if less work needing doing with copyediting and structure when Rosie and I come to look at the articles the more we can focus on researching and adding further content. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:28, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

OK. Noted.--Nvvchar. 12:29, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

I think the key is to carefully read the article after you've completed your inputs, twice if needs be and read it slowly as a reader and you should spot some of the obvious repetitions or super long sentences which affect flow and readability. Anyway, in a few weeks there is a Wikipedia:GLAM/BL/IDP to do with the British Museum. The focus will be on Central Asian archaeology. I was envisaging some articles like Archaeology of Turkmenistan and for the other Central Asian countries and archaeological sites of Central Asia timed around this event. There is a site called Door to Hell too near Derweze which looks interesting.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:39, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Check the last paragraph of historyfor Koutoubia, Almovad??, do you mean Almohad or Almoravid? This is what I mean in regards to repetition/flow. You've already written about construction materials. So why would you state it at the end of the paragraph?♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:57, 8 October 2012 (UTC)
