The Amerivision Song Contest 1974 was the nineteenth edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU) and host broadcaster El Canal de las Estrellas. The edition was hosted in the Teatro Blanquita, in Mexico City, Mexico, as the country earned the right to host the contest by winning the previous edition.
This edition saw the debut of El Salvador and Guadeloupe in the contest, as well as the return of Chile and Trinidad and Tobago to the contest and the withdrawal of Ecuador and the Netherlands Antilles, making it the edition with the largest number of participants at the time.
Host picking
[edit]Seven colombian venues showed interest in hosting the event, the bolded bid was the selected one. For the edition, Canal 1 scaled back and went with a simpler edition, going back to the usual 1,000 minimum capacity for the venues.
