Michigan Heritage Park
[edit]I did not take any pictures of the Mastadon. For all the quality reproductions they did, this seemed to be an afterthought. I think they did to expand the time frame from hundreds of years to 10,000. It is a pile of concrete that was some how formed to replicate a skeleton. They then painted the concrete to make them look like bones. It is a real hack job. They also have Indian burial mounds that are basically piles of dirt in the woods.
Tomorrow the local Archaeology society is having a dig. I think this is for demonstration purposes because this property was untouched. As the photos show, everything is brand new. They brought in an expert to show them how to build a correct wigwam. Nothing here is historic. What they are trying to do is show what life in early Michigan was like for the Indians and the first European explorers.
I regret not taking a picture of the administration building. I will get that sometime in the future. It is very modern structure with classrooms, and of course, a gift shop. I didn't feel it was conducive to the theme of the park.
They have been open just a few months and it is pretty impressive. I bet in a few years as the buildings age and more people get involved, this facility will be real gem. --Wingerham52 (talk) 00:02, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- It was totally fascinating to work on this article - right up my alley. It sounds so interesting that we are planning a day trip there as I am typing. We live in Ludington, so it is not that far. Never heard of it before, because it is so new. Now we have to go check it out. So if I don't come across the pictures I am looking for, I'll take them myself. Thanks for info on how they did a Mastadon. I may just put in a real skeleton of a Masadon in the article. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:38, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
Testing "pings"
[edit]I seem to have trouble using the ping template with your name. Do others?
- Can you ping me with "yo" and "ping" for a test. Thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 19:12, 26 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, Doug Coldwell, I discovered this to be so with this user, back in the early days or Echo. "Ping" does not like the make-up of this username.
I always resort to[[User:7&6=thirteen|]]
.
I hope this helps. Cheers! — | Gareth Griffith-Jones |The WelshBuzzard| — 07:58, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

7&6=thirteen
Yes, this does help --> as I could never ping this user before. Thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:22, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- When a username contains an equal sign, just add 1= at the beginning of the username for the ping to work. For eg. {{Ping/yo/re|1=7&6=thirteen}} - 185.108.128.10 (talk) 11:16, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for hint. I do believe I will try that now. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:35, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- @7&6=thirteen: Can you ping me to make sure my User name works.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:35, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- @7&6=thirteen: Ping me using "yo" . --Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:35, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

Woman's World's Fair
[edit]I see articles like Woman's World's Fair and I scratch my head wondering how it's possible that this wasn't created a long time ago. Thanks for being the one to do it! Helen Bennett (journalist) organized four of these woman's world's fairs in the 1920s so I'll try and dig up stuff on the other three at some point. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:59, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

TAFI
[edit]I took a look at your noms at TAFI. Interesting!. If you find time for it, please review my noms at TAFI as some of them are running out of time and are still without any input. Cheers.--BabbaQ (talk) 17:34, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: Can you give me a priority list of which ones I should look at first.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 18:09, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: As I new to this, what happens then after it is approved.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 18:26, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- Molly Sandén, Allegra Versace,Växjö, Yolanda Saldivar, King Carl XVI, Karla Faye Tucker and Gustaf Skarsgård are the articles at the moment. When an article is approved it is moved to the list of the articles that potentially could be "This weeks TAFI" article. The selection is random and it is one article each week that the members of the project can help improve. And everyone can help improve all the articles that has been improved. Let me know if you have any more questions.--BabbaQ (talk) 20:14, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks, now I get it.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 20:17, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: - checking out this new "ping" thing (to me anyway). Sent to you at 20:21:10 --Doug Coldwell (talk) 20:20, 10 September 2015 (UTC)

- @BabbaQ: TAFI question - if you are on the "member" list are you notified of anything. Does one then just check the article of the week occasionally -OR- are you notified on the ones you Supported?--Doug Coldwell (talk) 20:31, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
- As far as I am aware you are only notified about the selected weekly article. You are not notified about the indiviual approval or decline of the article at the nomination board. Now that you mentioned it I find it strange that one is not notified actually. I just "follow" the nominaton board so I can follow the discussion. --BabbaQ (talk) 20:35, 10 September 2015 (UTC)
@BabbaQ: O.K. = thanks for reply. I'll do the same as you. Maybe an idea is if one can be "alerted" when an article you Approved is selected for weekly article (bot perhaps). You have been doing this longer than me, so you would know who to suggest to (if you think a good idea).--Doug Coldwell (talk) 20:45, 10 September 2015 (UTC)

Draft
[edit]- Yes, I definitely need to start using the draft system here on Wikipedia. I almost always write my articles for direct post. Anyway, you write great articles!--BabbaQ (talk) 17:16, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: - When you work in draft, then there is no clock for a DYK and also there is no pressure = as you can get it done whenever you like, like in 2 weeks or 3 weeks or 4 weeks or whenever. Then you have plenty of time to gather your reference sources (i.e. books, online, library responses). End result is your article is many times higher in quality. It all works in your favor, when you do it first in a draft.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 22:41, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: - When you work in draft ideas pop into your head that you can test - and nobody sees it. If it doesn't work, then you just take out = nobody knew. What happens eventually is that you come up with good ideas, that lead to other good ideas. Then article develops and you can double check for mistakes. When you are all done with the article, then you can triple check things out. If you are working it to be a DYK, then you know you have everything needed (and then some). It gets quickly approved and in the long run you are ahead. As you can see I have 365 DYKs, so this concept of a draft first must be good. AND besides the articles then come out looking pretty = then the top seasoned editors like working on your article. Look to see who works on my articles. For example Shelby Gem Factory, Woman's World's Fair, and Hammond Electric Bridge Table.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 11:26, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: - When you work in draft ideas pop into your head for another article. Sometimes it works with the existing article you have in draft = then you have 2 articles in draft or maybe even 3 articles, etc. Next thing you know you come out with a 2-in-1 DYK nomination or a 3-in-1 DYK or a 4-in-1 DYK or a 9-in-1 DYK or even a 16-in-1 DYK or even a 30-in-1 DYK. Look at my list of DYKs and this is what happened in my multiple DYK hooks. When I started I only had 1 DYK in mind, and one thing lead to another. The more you put into one, the even more additional you get back = old Chinese Proverb! hehehehe --Doug Coldwell (talk) 11:56, 12 September 2015 (UTC)

- Yes your record at Drafts speaks for itself! I will take a look at your work. Thank you for the inspiration.--BabbaQ (talk) 22:00, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: - Gave you a couple of blank draft sandboxes to work in for future drafts - with some outlines. Will be glad to help on your drafts, if you have questions. Suggest you put something (i.e. infoboxes) on your User Page. Something about yourself.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:33, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: - just created Austin Cornelius Dunham from a draft I have been working on. I also just now submitted for DYK nomination = 1 day old. It is 4500 characters = 3 times what is necessary for DYK. It has footnotes so the Reviewer can find the reference for the hook quickly. Every paragraph has at least 1 inline reference. Just showing you this so you can see the advantages to work it out in a draft first.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 13:11, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- I took a look at the Dunham article and the DYK nom for you. OK, thank you I will contact you if I need suggestions etc.... great :)--BabbaQ (talk) 14:58, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- I have nominated Rickard Olsson and Lars-Åke Wilhelmsson for DYK. --BabbaQ (talk) 14:59, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: - another idea is to put your email address in "preferences".--Doug Coldwell (talk) 16:04, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: - The red links "Draft Bio 2" and "Draft Subject 2" are sandboxes where you can start your next drafts for new articles. Here you can play with them as long as you like and get them as ready as you can for a DYK = then make the draft a live article and submit for DYK nomination on the same day. Just some ideas.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 20:51, 13 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi
[edit]I have nominated Princess Leia at TAFI. :) The article could definitely need TAFIs help. Anyway if you find time for it take a look at the article Gustav Laabs that I have created. And for your suggestion, yes I will definitely take it into consideration. I will have time for it this weekend to start perhaps. But I will definitely let you know :) How is everything in Michigan today? :)--BabbaQ (talk) 20:53, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
- Oh, I see now that you already have started creating the article. Good work! I will definitely read it and add what I can to help you!--BabbaQ (talk) 20:54, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
- I have made some small tweaks. But I will have more time at the end of the week when I have less work :)--BabbaQ (talk) 20:57, 21 September 2015 (UTC)

Article creation secret
[edit]- @BabbaQ: Here is where my approach to creating an article is a little different than most. I work it out in a sandbox draft FIRST and then in the long run there is little to fix. Take for example my latest article I created Luther Atwood. It was "created" today and submitted to DYK. There has only been minor edits and improvements needed. I don't have to go back and try to fix a bunch of things, because I worked it out in a draft FIRST. Sooooo - if you want to know the "secret" to making an article with little or no problems, that's it = make it FIRST in a draft sandbox and do all the research then. Then you don't have to go back and fix a bunch of things or save the article. Make it in the darft sandbox so strong that it will stand on its own 2 feet, no matter what. Now the "secret" is out. Meanwhile I am now researching a couple more articles, so my response time may be a little slow as I am at the library.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:54, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: Here are some characteristics of Luther Atwood
- 1) It is 3 times the size needed for a DYK
- 2) Running Earwig's Copyvio Detector it shows that the only sequence of 3 words or more are the titles to the patents that he did.
- 3) There is at least 1 inline reference for every paragraph - most paragraphs have several references.
- 4) There are book references in addition to web online references.
- 5) There are some pictures for the article - all copyright free.
- 6) There are several Categories for the article AND there are several article that link to this article.
- This would be characteristics to aim for in a new article as it is made live when you create it. Now you know my "secret" to making a good clean article. BTW, I do not know how to type - I use 2 fingers.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 22:26, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: Another important feature of the book references above is that it shows the EXACT page number - so that if someone wanted to look up the reference they would known EXACTLY where to go. One should ALWAYS provide the page number in a book. A web source has the URL for reference.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:21, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: This is an example result for my little "secret"
- Isaac Dripps was "created" at 20:07, 25 September 2015.
- It was submitted as a DYK nomination at 20:15, 25 September 2015.
- It was approved at 20:41, 25 September 2015
- The "secret" is on your User Page.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:09, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Doug Coldwell: - Really interesting and useful information. Thank you! I hope to co-operate with you on a article one day soon. :)--BabbaQ (talk) 21:29, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
- You "secret" is definitely out! :)--BabbaQ (talk) 21:29, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
- You start an article in one of those empty "Draft" sandboxes and I will guide you along. The "secret" is to have it all complete in the Draft. THEN and only then make it live. Here is another idea for extra motivation to have the incentive to put in the energy to get all correct the FIRST time = have a DYK hook in mind BEFORE you even start the article. THEN immediately look for THAT hook reference. Now with those 2 things in place, THEN start the Draft and you will have the motivation energy to get everything correct the first time around, BEFORE it is even a live article. These ideas have worked for me for years. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:39, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
- You "secret" is definitely out! :)--BabbaQ (talk) 21:29, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: Another little secret is to do all the research work yourself. This way you learn a lot and are independent. Look up all the reference sources yourself. Use this Wikipedia citation tool for Google Books. Use these Wikipedia:Citation templates for all the rest. Now you know most all my little "secrets". Cheers. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:40, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: P.S. Run Isaac Dripps through Earwig's Copyvio Detector. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:40, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: P.S. Run Isaac Dripps through this character count. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:40, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: P.S. Click on "What links here" for Isaac Dripps. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:40, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: Soooooo -> who did the research and got the reference sources for these articles? --Doug Coldwell (talk) 12:50, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: Since I did all the research myself I obtained the special secret knowledge that allowed me to produce the quality of these articles. That special secret knowledge ONLY comes to those that do all the work themselves. If you allow others to do the work of developing out an article then THEY are the ones that get this special secret knowledge. There is no other way to get this very important and very powerful knowledge. No one can give it to you and you can't just get it from others - the only way to get this key knowledge that allows you to make quality articles like above is by doing all the research yourself and finding all the reference sources yourself. By allowing others to do it, you are only cheating yourself. I have secrets that you haven't even thought of or knew was even possible. Now here is the best part - I can apply these secrets to put me many fold ahead of most editors and I haven't even broke any Rules. Its up to you = the easy road or the hard way. Now you know the secret knowledge to get the special secret knowledge. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 17:40, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: Do you ever wished you had found the key to a buried treasure chest? You have! What's inside is worth more than gold. Just turn the key right. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 11:00, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: I created the article on the principle of preparation. Note the first line as this is my philosophy. It is applicable to creating an article for a successful outcome. When I was a real estate salesman back in the 1980s, I created this real estate buyer's questionnaire form so that I was prepared in working with ONLY qualified buyers that really wanted to buy something and could afford it. I suggested this form to dozens of other salespeople for a selling tool. They all turned it down and never worked with it. Meanwhile I was making an average of 10 times what they were each year, not counting my investments. I gave them gold and they threw it away as trash. They worked ten times harder than I did and made only one tenth what I did.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:01, 28 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: With this special secret knowledge I am able to produce multiple article Did You Knows. This key knowledge is what was necessary. Some stood as records for awhile.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 11:19, 29 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: I believe that this special secret knowledge is obtained with the Law of attraction, which I first learned about before you were born from Napoleon Hill tapes. It has worked for me for over 30 years. Whatever you dwell upon in your mind is what is attracted to you - like a magnet. I concentrate on how to make DYKs and they come my way - sometimes in bunches.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 21:44, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BabbaQ: Now you get the idea of this special secret knowledge I am talking about. Once you learn these special tools, then things become easier. Here is another I have known for years. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 22:10, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Doug. you've been here a long time so I assumed you knew this, but notability is not created (with exceptions none of which apply to businesspeople) by what someone has accomplished. Notability is created by reliable sources covering what someone has accomplished. It is well established that notability is not established through obituaries alone. Nor is it established by being associated with a notable organization. Very simply, this article needs stronger referencing. Please do not remove the maintenance tag until that is accomplished. It will hopefully draw some help for you to complete the referencing. Thanks. John from Idegon (talk) 21:58, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- @John from Idegon: George Hilt accomplished creating the nation’s largest farm-store chain. I do believe there are several reliable sources for the article. The Chicago Tribune and New York Times references are not obituaries. Also the Petoskey News and MLive Media Group references are not obituaries. The Call-Leader newspaper from Elwood, Indiana · Page 5 (1997) is also not an obituary, but a history on Quality Farm & Fleet Supply. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 22:20, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- @John from Idegon: If you insist on drive-by templating/tagging, "ref improve" seems closer to your plaint. That this personage is noteable is not subject to reasoned/reasonable disputation. Best regards. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 22:53, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

Your reversion of my edit to Nonsuch House.
[edit]Did you actually read the text you restored? I mean my question seriously, and more in a tone of bafflement than wrath.
I'll save you the trouble:
"Nonsuch House also house of protoagonist's who Isaac Inchbold of Ross King's Bestseller Novel Ex-Libris's home and business scene. Mr. Inchbold is a old bookseller and using the house a bookhouse and living the second floor of Nonsuch House."
Let that sink in.
First, my amendment is in English. Second, it is succinct. Third, what information has been omitted is irrelevant: the link to the author's page is retained; no page exists for the book itself, and the author's page describes the book with a single sentence, which does not mention the house. Consider whether the name of the character and which floor he inhabits belong on this page.
Yes, I am annoyed. My edit is in every way an improvement over one of the worst and most pointless passages I have recently come across on Wikipedia. I have a feeling you just compared the length of the two versions and hit revert. Regulov (talk) 22:01, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
- Well, if you feel that way about it - then you can revert my edit and I won't argue with you.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 22:04, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
- Gracious of you. Regulov (talk) 23:20, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Regulov: Suggestion - Next time explain why you are removing a large block of text BEFORE you do it and put that on the Talk Page of the article. THEN put as a edit summary "See Talk" when you remove the text. Then you won't be so fruss-tratted, or in America we say "frustrated". Most editors assume that when a large block of text is removed it is vandalism. Always include an edit summary on whatever you do when adding, subtracting, copyediting, correcting errors, etc. This way it keeps the reverting down. Thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 10:54, 23 October 2015 (UTC)
- Gracious of you. Regulov (talk) 23:20, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
