COI+ certification proposal

[edit]

I've thought of an idea that might break our current logjam with paid editing. I'd love your sincere feedback and opinion.

Feel free to circulate this to anyone you think should know about it, but please recognize that it hasn't agreed upon by either PR organizations or WikiProjects or the wider community. It's also just a draft, so any/many changes can still be made. Thanks and cheers, Ocaasi EdwardsBot (talk) 15:00, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Note: This time, the "Wikimedia Foundation highlights" section does not include the usual coverage of the most notable work of Foundation staff during that month. Instead, it contains a list of talks given by Foundation staff at Wikimania, summarizing their most important work the year over. It looks like a lot of text, but only the talk titles will need to be translated. The intention is that these titles alone can already give readers a good overview of what the Foundation is working on in general.

Response to your email

[edit]

I can hardly make sense of your email, as it was too long, please keep it concise. I have absolutely no knowledge on this subject and probably can't help you; you may want to limit the people you send the email to per the canvassing policy.--Jasper Deng (talk) 03:48, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if the e-mail you sent to Jasper is the same or similar to the one you sent to me, but if you have a complaint about another user's conduct, you should raise it on the appropriate forum. One possibility is a request for comment/user conduct, and another is to start a topic at WP:ANI. Based on my limited understanding of your e-mail, I cannot help you directly.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:43, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Like Jasper Deng I could barely make sense of your email. I would also suggest that a request for comment on user conduct is the way to go. Keep it shorter. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 07:43, 18 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hamza & Mildenhall

[edit]

I thank you for your message but I must put you straight on a couple of points. This is English wikipedia, and as such, the vast majority of its users have English as a first language. Abu Hamza, whenever he has been in the english speaking news, has always been known as "Abu Hamza" and as such, the vast majority of people will refer to his last name as being Hamza. As for RAF Mildenhall, it is not only used by the USAF, if you check your sources you will discover that during the cold war, Britain allowed the USA to share the use of the air base, but did never give it sole use. It states on wikipedia and other sources that Mildenhall is owned by the MOD and its users are both the RAF and the USAF. Many thanksMarkdarrly (talk) 16:14, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Further to this, the news banners on BBC news 24 and also on Sky news both state "Hamza Extradition". I believe if two of the biggest news providers in the world refer to him as "Hamza", then that is what he should be refered to in this instance.Markdarrly (talk) 17:27, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Interactions with me

[edit]

Hello, I have decided not to discuss this on WP:ANI because it should be resolved with a personal talk first. My first interaction with you was in June when I issued this warning for edit-warring on an article in mainspace. I soon retracted the warning because I determined you were acting in good faith and you suspected sock-puppetry, which is a good excuse for going over the three-revert rule. Then things were quiet for months; you retired and didn't edit much. Then you started editing "Three Kingdoms" related articles: you moved a page which was reverted because it had not been discussed or even mentioned before it happened and you also made edits to the disambiguation page [4] which I partially reverted [5] by applying the guidelines of Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Disambiguation pages, which I cited in my edit summary. Instead of discussing this on the talk page or with me personally, you went straight to WP:ANI, without mentioning me by name, or notifying me of your thread, which you were required to do. no action was taken and the thread was archived and the article got a few more edits and a discussion. Then, you found the article Natural marriage 24 hours after I had commented on the talk page. That to me is interesting, because you never expressed interest in Catholicism before that. You edited articles concerned with England and China. You also made a comment in the deletion discussion for this article. Then you created a new article which redirected to a derogative term - I fixed this when I saw it. Now today you have gone to ANI again without notifying me of the thread and before talking to me personally about a civility issue that could have been resolved very easily if you had had the guts to contact me directly. And now you want the thread closed, and are trying to retract the report. Well, I object to your style of editing. You are not acting in a collegial manner, you only discuss when you are forced to, you are frequently on the wrong side of consensus, and you use derogatory terms in discussions where there is no need to be derogatory. Now how do you intend to solve this behavior? Elizium23 (talk) 16:16, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, all that in fact demonstrates that you have been deliberately following me around, with perhaps the aid of your toys and other gadgets, and sometimes reverting or undoing my edits and changes just for the sake of it. Since you have practically been following my every single movement, perhaps no notification is necessary. Personally, I prefer to make as much edits as possible, rather than being drawn, and forced, to participate in long and unnecessary debates just for the sake of debating, because, amongst other things, well, many British houses are susceptible to damp, and mine, an old-built, is obviously one of them. I am not particularly looking forward to my first stroke. Perhaps Wikipedia is not big enough for the both of us and our intelligence, or rather, ego. (P.S.: The term "Popedom" is obviously a derogatory term.) -- KC9TV 16:43, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I had good reasons when I reverted your edits, and I gave them clearly in edit summaries. I have stayed out of the vast majority of your contributions. My summary above listed all of the interactions which I am aware of. If you are aware of interactions where I acted with 'an apparent aim of creating irritation, annoyance or distress to the other editor' then it is up to you to demonstrate this. I would ask you to read WP:CIVIL and understand it, because the tone of your reply is insulting to me. Also read WP:OUTING, because your attempt to reveal personal information about me is expressly forbidden. Now I would like to ask, can you prove that "Popedom" is a derogatory term with reliable secondary sources? And why did you decide to create it? Also, how did you find the article natural marriage? Elizium23 (talk) 16:52, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I see you are going to run and hide, reverting my attempts to communicate with you. It's too bad - I was prepared to observe a voluntary interaction ban with you if you decided to be civil and discuss the problem on your talk page. I was very close to offering that. Now I am prepared to watch all your contribs vigilantly and log your behavior with an eye to a future RFC/U or ANI thread. Enjoy your days at Wikipedia - they're numbered. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Kite-flying (politics), you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages E.g. and Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Talk pages and delsort

You don't need to create talk pages and then redirect them. It's completely unnecessary. Also, you're adding far too many delsort cats to your AfDs. Only add to those that are really relevant, not everything that might be vaguely relevant. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:24, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Categories on talk-pages

[edit]

This edit of yours (and many like it) do not seem correct. It's the article that is about the person (or a redirect to such an article). The talk-page is where editors discuss the article but "the subject of the article" is not the subject of the talk-page. You can always check Category:Living people (or other categories of interest) to see how they are explicitly defined. Please undo these changes so that the categories correctly contain what they are designed to contain. Thanks! DMacks (talk) 19:13, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Religion categories

[edit]

Per WP:BLPCAT people should only be added to these if they have publicly self-identified with the religion in question AND it is relevant to their notability. On that basis I'm reverting your changes. Thanks, Valenciano (talk) 19:52, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

He "warned" me because I had recently nominated the user-page of an Irish Republican (User:Domer48) – of whatever passport or legal nationality – for deletion, and he – who has obviously a connection to Baltimore (a city with a large Irish-American population), based upon his edits – probably did not like it, and is taking this a little too personally. The translation consists of a short, 2 sentence, intro for the vote and 3 short 'titles' saying which vote or question they will be on. I have updated the Eligibility Requirements page for the Project and Event Grants program, and re-organized the information to be more readable, as well as easier to translate.

Your help in bringing this information to different language communities has tremendous value: many people are timid about grants, and having to digest all this relatively-formal information in English makes it even more scary.

Your translations can help more Wikimedians apply for funding, and thereby enable more awesome work to take place around the world. Thank you for your valuable efforts!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hey translators, please see review and translate what you are able for this important consultation regarding Wikimania. Because part of the consultation is aimed at fundamentally changing how Wikimania is planned (even considering the possibility of making multiple events regional throughout the year rather than one global event), it's important that folks understand the options on the table. I've tried to prioritize only the most important parts of the consultation for translation, but if you want to translate more, please feel free to add translation tags and get in touch with me if you need me to reconfirm the page for translation. Please also see the discussion page, as we are requesting translations of the small number of survey questions. With thanks, User:I JethroBT (WMF).

- This is the part of a series of community consultation pages. The WMF Community Advocacy team has put together a list at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/2016_Strategy/Translations. We're hoping to launch the consultation on January 18th. Realizing getting all translations in place before the launch of the consultation may not be possible (and that people will likely help with translations after the launch), I'd be really grateful for any assistance especially that you can give in translating the templates at that Meta page link, like this one. It'll probably be harder for casual translators to help out with those!

- Text should be stable at this point. I've just made what I hope will be the last modification to those pages!

- Thank you for all you do, and I hope you will not only assist in translation (if you are able) but also take part in the consultation. Your input will be very welcome.

- Questions or concerns? Please let me know at mdennis@wikimedia.org. Thanks! Maggie

I would also appreciate your help translating some of the other page content related to the campaign, which I've organized here: In particular, the FAQ, main page, and Mass message should take priority. You've been unsubscribed from the Feedback Request Service

[edit]

Hi 99801155KC9TV! You're receiving this notification because you were previously subscribed to the Feedback Request Service, but you haven't made any edits to the English Wikipedia in over three years.

In order to declutter the Feedback Request Service list, and to produce a greater chance of active users being randomly selected to receive invitations to contribute, you've been unsubscribed, along with all other users who have made no edits in three years or more.

You do not need to do anything about this - if you are happy to not receive Feedback Request Service messages, thank you very much for your contributions in the past, and this will be the last you hear from the service. If, however, you would like to resubscribe yourself, you can follow the below instructions to do so:

  1. Go to the Feedback Request Service page.
  2. Decide which categories are of interest to you, under the RfC and/or GA headings.
  3. Paste {{Frs user|{{subst:currentuser}}|limit}} underneath the relevant heading(s), where limit is the maximum number of requests you wish to receive for that category per month.
  4. Publish the page.

If you've just come back after a wikibreak and are seeing this message, welcome back! You can follow the above instructions to re-activate your subscription. Likewise, if this is an alternate account, please consider subscribing your main account in much the same way.

Note that if you had a rename and left your old name on the FRS page, you may be receiving this message. If so, make sure your new account name is on the FRS list instead.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on the Feedback Request Service talk page, or on the Feedback Request Service bot's operator's talk page. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:26, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In order for this feature to work, we need translations of those labels. There are only six labels:

  • About the Bot
  • Report Problem
  • Contact Us
  • Documentation
  • Configure
  • Disable Bot

If you know how to say those things in another language, you can help! And your work will make it easier for non-English speakers to use InternetArchiveBot.

Hi all!

The community vote of this year's Board Elections are close. As always voter mails will be sent out. To invite as many community members as possible in their native tongue your help is very much appreciated. While there are already plenty of translations we would appreciate you to check for languages still missing and to contribute translations for these.

The mails are short, just a bit about two times 200 words, a few minutes of work.

Your support is very important as it helps communities to learn about the election and to cast their vote.

Best, Denis Barthel (WMF)

(Movement Strategy and Governance)
