Screenshot
[edit]Apologies for the screenshot of a relatively obscure home version, it's the only one I'm capable of uploading. Perhaps if someone is able to get a proper arcade machine shot it could be retained as part of a "home ports/screenshots" type section? - ThomasHarte 17:32, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
The Hidden Characters
[edit]Is anybody able to confirm or negate the rumor that there would be two hidden characters in the Game Boy Advance's "Classic Arcade Advanced" version of this game? They would be called "Bishoo" and "Clayman" or "Claman". There are a screenshot of a third woman character, but I couldn't find any way of accessing them.
Any help? Thank you for the attention (and forgive my bad English). -- Ivan Linares 02:44, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Input the Konami code on the screen where you choose 1-player or 2-player mode. 66.63.86.156 (talk) 23:05, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
C64 intro screen music trivia
[edit]The C64 version (at least) has Jean Michel Jarre's "Magnetic Fields 4" as a music in the intro screen. 212.149.251.115 14:07, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- That is true. I wonder if the track was used with permission. --144.140.31.5 07:55, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Music
[edit]"In Korean film or TV show, the BGM of Yie Ar Kung-Fu is somtimes referred as "campy classic" of martial arts sensation." - does this mean that the background music is a pre-existing piece of kung-fu cliche music, or that the game was popular enough in Korea for everyone to recognise the tune? --McGeddon 08:09, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Trivia
[edit]I added the anti-trivia bit to the article. Then I looked a little closer and realized that none of the trivia is at all relevant to the article. So I'm "being bold" and taking it out. Hope no one minds. Shostie (talk) 15:56, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- I remember it had a lot of interesting information, so I recovered it. Following the Wikipedia's anti-trivia directives, I placed the bits of information at the proper places (character description, name meanings, gameplay etc.).--Ivan Linares (talk) 02:59, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Another port of Yie Ar Kung-Fu!
[edit]Yie Ar Kung-Fu is now available on mobile-phones! Konami has re-released it for mobile phones, with copyright 1985, 2007, and 2008. It is the 11-enemy version. -- Kschang77 (talk) 23:41, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Factual errors / misinterpreted sources
[edit]Quoted from the article:
"The player could perform up to sixteen different moves,[4] including projectile attacks,[5] using a combination of buttons and joystick movements while standing, crouching or jumping.[6] The game served as an inspiration for Street Fighter.[5]"
It claims that the player can (why is this written in past tense?) perform projectile attacks, however that's not true, and it doesn't say that in the source, either. The source only says that it "contains projectile attacks." What it doesn't say is that they're only available to certain enemies, not the player. You may have a look at the movelist in the FAQ on GameFAQs to satisfy your quoting needs.
The player's Oolong moves table shows no projectile attacks, and I know of no reports of secret moves involving an Oolong projectile attack. Note that no move occurs when only pressing Punch or Kick, it must be combined with a joystick direction. Enemy projectile attacks include Star (thrown stars at three different heights), Chain (extended chain at three different heights), and Fan (fans thrown floating in the air and aiming at three different heights). 76.122.221.218 (talk) 09:19, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
Furthermore, "The game served as an inspiration for Street Fighter" isn't in the quoted article either. It only says that it contains an element that also Street Fighter contains, merely impying a possible influence. This implication is not backed by any facts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Derboo (talk • contribs) 15:24, 24 July 2011 (UTC)
After the lack of any reaction from the original editor, I removed the wrong citations myself. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Derboo (talk • contribs) 05:22, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
Blues
[edit]"Oolong has to find some weakness on Blues to win." Strategy guides suggest that Blues can be hit up to five times with Stride Punch (down/back + punch). I can't do that all the time but up to three times is very doable from the same side of the screen. After that, it seems to require a lot of jumping whenever Oolong is about to get cornered. On the Konami Arcade Classics PlayStation port of Yie-ar Kung Fu, I can reliably Stride Punch Blues up to three times, maybe twice more from the other side if I do it fast enough, but then have to basically rapid press Kick while alternating joystick (D-pad) directions between Up (jumping head kick with an immediate hit) and Up/Back (flying head kick with a delayed hit)... also just jumping across the screen when about to be trapped at the side of the screen. Getting trapped on the side of the screen usually means a flurry of kicks from Blues that seems unescapable. It's not a perfect defeat and I do get hit a few times by a single hit that doesn't result in a trap, but I've looped the game more than once (as have others, and they may have different methods). I can't get past Pole the second time around yet, so I have no information beyond 2nd loop Pole. 76.122.221.218 (talk) 09:43, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
Bruce Lee video game?
[edit]How is this a Bruce Lee video game? All I see that could possibly connect this game to Bruce Lee are a couple of hidden references. JIP | Talk 08:06, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
- It isn't a Bruce Lee game, and neither is its sequel. I removed both from the category of Bruce Lee games. Jah77 (talk) 15:02, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
