Fair use rationale for File:Washingtonfreedom.jpg
[edit]File:Washingtonfreedom.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Name Change
[edit]Their name is officially changed. Should we change it here?Rhodesisland (talk) 10:51, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Pre-2009
[edit]The first game, largest win, and largest defeat listed in the infobox all ignore games played in the WUSA and W-Leagues. This is inaccurate and misleading. Does anyone know where to find comprehensive results for pre-2009 games? —D. Monack talk 09:29, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah I'm in agreement with you on that. There have been other teams in other sports which have switched leagues. First thing that comes to mind for me are the Edmonton Oilers (Gretzky almost didnt play for the NHL!). —ᚹᚩᛞᛖᚾᚻᛖᛚᛗ (ᚷᛖᛋᛈᚱᛖᚳ) 02:05, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I'd even try to put in largest win and largest defeat, because the leagues are so different that the numbers don't mean a whole lot: Which was really the largest win, beating a professional team, 5-0, in 2003, or beating a low-level amateur W-League team, 8-0, in 2007? Kevinwparker (talk) 06:05, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
- The answer is: the 8-0 win. The "largest win" stat is about goal differential alone. This is verifiable and objective info that is of encyclopedic interest. On the D.C. United page, their biggest win is listed as against Joe Public, a team from Trinidad and obviously not an MLS league match.
- Keep in mind that all of the Freedom's games against W-League teams were when they themselves were a W-League team. Also the W-League is not amateur (i.e., their players are paid). —D. Monack talk 06:35, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
- Um, the W-League is primarily an amateur league, else NCAA players wouldn't be allowed to play for it. There are professional teams in the league, but only a very few. Kevinwparker (talk) 17:29, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

New team in Major League Cricket with the same name
[edit]There is a new cricket team called "Washington Freedom" which will be playing in Major League Cricket from 13th July 2023.
Should we move this page with a bracket called (soccer) and mark it for the new, live team? Karyasuman (talk) 02:14, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
- That was my first thought, but I changed my mind. Washington Freedom had a successful 10-year run in women's professional soccer. Washington Freedom (cricket) hasn't played a game yet. Let's give it some time, whether this team (and Major League Cricket itself) are a success remains to be seen. 162 etc. (talk) 21:48, 28 March 2023 (UTC)
Requested move 18 April 2023
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Not moved. Clear consensus to not move and that this article is still the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. (non-admin closure) Skynxnex (talk) 15:46, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
Washington Freedom → Washington Freedom Soccer – this is an inactive soccer team ... WSHEdit (talk) 15:28, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
- There is another Washington Freedom team playing another sport. WSHEdit (talk) 15:30, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose. As I stated above, Washington Freedom (cricket) is a new team in a new league, and it's too early to tell if it will have any kind of long-term notability. The women's soccer team, on the other hand, was in existence for 10 years, and should still be considered the primary topic for now. 162 etc. (talk) 15:34, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose move. Their name did not contain Soccer or SC. O.N.R. (talk) 01:40, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose the soccer team is a clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC right now. In a couple of years, if Major League Cricket gets a lot of coverage and a lot of people viewing this cricket team, then that might be the time to re-nominate it, but right now most people will be looking for the soccer team, as that's where most of the coverage is. Joseph2302 (talk) 12:21, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose. It's clear that the soccer team is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC now. Even if, at some point down the road, that becomes disputed, any move would not be formatted as currently proposed. Seany91 (talk) 14:50, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. S.A. Julio (talk) 18:13, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose per 162 etc. S.A. Julio (talk) 18:13, 19 April 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose as above. GiantSnowman 11:41, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

Washington Freedom → Washington Freedom (soccer) – A lot has happened since the last RM. Washington Freedom (cricket) has participated in two tournaments and won the latest one. Looking at Google News, the first ten results are all about the cricket team. Hence, the soccer team is no longer the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. StAnselm (talk) 20:25, 19 September 2024 (UTC)
