VBALinkReal link
[edit]I've commented out the link to VBALinkReal because it seems to lead to a spam site. Can someone replace it with a correct link to the VBALinkReal ste? Thanks -- De Zeurkous (root@lichee.nichten.info), Sat Jul 29 10:32:40 UTC 2006
Legality of emulators
[edit]Is it legal to play GBA games on this thing? I think people should understand the license agreement with ROMs. Unless of course, we already have an entry on the subject.
so long as you own the actual game, i would think it would be perfectly legal under the fair-use provisions of copyright law, barring a DMCA-based argument against it. i have no idea if the form-factor of the cartage or the format of the game data could be considered a form of copy-protection. 204.83.242.189 08:38, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Interestingly enough, emulators are entirely legal. I'm also pretty sure that Nintendo says in all their game manuals that it is illegal to make a copy of the game. Don't quote me on the second one though. --Cronodude360 18:01, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
The emulator is legal, but playing games on them isn't. Read this for more information:

Nintendo's site might be a tiny bit biased... my uncited understanding is that the acquisition of ROM images from websites is the most illegal thing about how people generally use emulators. 92.40.235.88 (talk) 21:40, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Super gameboy is not a handheld!!!!!!
[edit]It is an attachment to snes, which cannot be played around in your hands...
file type?
[edit]what file type are the roms supposed to be? .rom? .htm?
- It's .gba, a special filetype created for it, mainly. --Kaizer13 01:09, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

VBA-M link
[edit]I see that a recent edit removed a link to the VBA-M (the "super VBA"), and I think it would be a useful link to keep considering it combines most (if not all) of the various VBA forks into one. This would also remove the need for links to the various forks. NightKev (talk) 22:00, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
I disagree (thought it was not I who did it, nor do I intend to by myself), on the grounds that until the project releases what it considers to be a public release, it is not sufficiently notable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.41.42.31 (talk) 18:36, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
We need better sources
[edit]This article has been tagged for needing additional citations since June 2011. We need to get some reliable third-party sources in here - all of the citations in here now are either primary or self-published sources, or are links to source code repositories. If there aren't any good third-party sources covering this emulator, then the article doesn't meet the general notability guideline and may be redirected to List of video game emulators. — KieferSkunk (talk) — 15:48, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
Well, it definitely has enough secondary sources covering it, as seen with a simple Google News search: [1] - but I don't really know how to go about with it. Many of them seem to be about "how it is now possible to play GBA games on mobile device X!" I think it does show how popular the emulator is, for what it's worth :p ~Mable (chat) 12:06, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
Merge Proposal with VisualBoyAdvance-M
[edit]I'm proposing that the article VisualBoyAdvance-M be merged with this article. I feel that VBA-M, although a more modern and improved version of this software, is still not notable enough for a full article. Its article is very small as is, and VBA-M is already mentioned in this article, so a merge would require little effort. Jdc1197 - (talk · userpage · contributions) 23:09, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
mGBA
[edit]mGBA is an emulator from 2013, that was built from a novel codebase with no direct relation to VisualBoyAdvance. However, the recent 0.9.0 release refreshed the Dolphin (emulator) link that was in a broken state for a long time.
Rather than create a new page for mgba, would anyone be opposed to adding a section on the development here? It seems that prominent gameboy emulators of the past (NO$GBA) and others, have been deleted. So this article is the only place I see left for this development.

- If we can find three different reliable sources that cover mGBA, I'll show you how to proceed. Though Vicki Pfau's own website mgba.io doesn't count for notability, Bijan Stephen's article from April 2019 probably does. Got two more? --Damian Yerrick (talk) 00:23, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
- lifning dug up an article posted in May 2021 about uncredited use of mGBA in a Medabots rerelease: article by Joseph Allen. An article by Damien McFerran covers the same incident. One more and we should be set. --Damian Yerrick (talk) 16:10, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
- Found #3, and it's in Dutch. As of 2022, mGBA was still under active development.[ref]Wesley Akkerman. "De beste GBA-emulators voor pc". ID.nl, 2022-03-18. Accessed 2022-11-29.[/ref] --Damian Yerrick (talk) 14:44, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

The result from failed Draft:mGBA is that three references that are "in-depth (not just passing mentions about the subject), reliable, secondary, [and] independent of the subject" are inadequate and twenty-one are. --Damian Yerrick (talk) 19:23, 23 February 2023 (UTC)
