Question on something:
"The reason Virtua Fighter 5 will appear exclusively on the Playstation 3 is because Microsoft requires all Xbox 360 games to use Xbox Live in a way that allows online competition to occur."
Is there a source on this? I find it hard to believe since there are several Xbox 360 games that don't have Online play.
- It's conjecture. Delete it. 16:39, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Game Engine
[edit]Does anyone know the name of the game engine (i.e., middleware) used in the development of VF 5? Is it third-party or in-house? Aeonassoc 15:41, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Why edit???
[edit]Why was the Asian Cover of the game edited out? Why was the Game Brink Review removed? WHY SO MANY THINGS REMOVED? With out an explanation???

American PS3 release?
[edit]Will there be a release of this game in the States?
-- Yes, the game will be out this month, on the 20th. It's right in the main page of Virtua Fighter 5, here in wikipedia.
NPOV?
[edit]This current version sounds like it was lifted verbatim out of Official PlaystationTM Magazine, it really needs cleaned so that it doesn't appear to have been written by a hopeless PS3 fanboy. Juux 22:45, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
PS3-only release
[edit]I categorized this as a Playstation 3-only game, since, as is the definition of the category, it's to be "released on the PlayStation 3 without being ported to or from other video game consoles."
Update: Now that Sega has confirmed Virtua Fighter 5 will be released for the Xbox 360, this just goes to further show that Sony has a terrible reputation for telling lies in the videogame industry. Reasons like this are why USA Today, the New York Times, and TIME magazine have called the Playstation 3 the Biggest Disappointment of the year. Mike mgoblue 20:45, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
This category was removed for at least the second time. What's the justification for this? If someone has a source pegging this for some other console, do share (In fact, I'd LOVE to hear it). Surely, the fact that it's also an arcade game can't be the reason, as arcade games are distinct from consoles. -VJ 11:35, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- Well, that's certainly a question of the definion of "PS3 only". To me it would mean that I can play this game only on the PS3 and nowhere else. I doubt anyone would call a game PS3-only when there would also be a PC version available, for example. --Conti|✉ 14:38, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- Is there a Wikipedia precedent for this? Does being available in arcades disqualify a game from being considered single-platform? -VJ 02:42, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- There isn't any precedent that I know of. Maybe we should move this discussion to a more fitting place, as this doesn't only concern Virtua Fighter 5, but a number of categories and how they should be used. What about moving this discussion to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Computer and video games? --Conti|✉ 03:12, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Moot now, since this is now an XBOX 360 release as well.
Virtua Fighter 5 is now scheduled to be released for the Xbox 360
[edit]Once again, we see that the words "at this point in time" mean that a game previously announced only for the Playstation 3 "has 'now' been announced" for release on the Xbox 360. There is no definition of what "late summer" means, so I think it is inapproprate to list August as the release date for the Xbox 360 version. A more generic term such as "summer" is what should be listed in the release date box. Mike mgoblue 20:41, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
New Characters
[edit]The new characters section can surely be updated now that the game is released. It seems the information there is based off of the end of a trailer, and is indicated in the text this way also. Chopper Dave 00:12, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
XBOX 360 EXCLUSIVE ONLINE PLAY
[edit]I knew this would happen, and I dare say so did Sega. They just didnt want to hurt sales of the P.S.3 version.
Xbox 360 Bugs ?
[edit]Where is the proof that the Xbox 360 version features the bugs stated in the gameplay section of this article? I own the 360 version, know the game very well, and have never encountered any of these ridiculous bugs. Anyone care to elaborate? Leonard McCoy (talk) 16:39, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
xbox360 bugs.
[edit]There is no proof that the bugs exist and obviously sega have made no statement addressing them. Untill proof is shown it should be edited out.
Is it just me or?
[edit]Are they trying to make the "game" more like Dead or Alive, if you know what I mean ;)
Ive heard this mentioned from a few people in various gaming sites, blogs, etc do you think we should add something about this "change" into the article if enought evidence can be collected? --Elven6 (talk) 01:35, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- Unless you can find a verifiable source (news article, interview, etc.) that speaks on this, no. I don't understand how the game is anything like DOA in the first place, though. King Zeal (talk) 02:27, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Yea for sure ill find the links, I don't think you got the hints, the characters at times are a bit more revealing, the bonus packs released feature suggestive costumes, etc. Ill find the links in a few days and let you all know. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Elven6 (talk • contribs) 01:47, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, well definitely need those sources. Otherwise, I would say VF isn't any more "DOA-ish" than Soul Calibur. After all, have you seen Ivy or Sophitia's Soulcalibur IV costumes? It's just a reflection of the times. In the new High Def world, developers can render boobs in ways that they never could before. King Zeal (talk) 02:25, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
True, but Virtua Fighter was meant to represent something more realistic and traditional --Elven6 (talk) 16:21, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
- That's beside the point, and this is isn't the right place to discuss that. The Talk page is meant to discuss the article's content and ways to improve it. As I said, you'll need those sources before this conversation can go any further. King Zeal (talk) 16:47, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
http://kotaku.com/gaming/sega/virtua-fighter-5-to-up-babe-factor-261120.php http://youtube.com/watch?v=ljsRnE7xrh8 This video also comes on the game disc itself,
Ill find some more links relating to the costumes and stuff --Elven6 (talk) 21:03, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
It is also the first game in the series to have a "suggestive themes" rating --Elven6 (talk) 21:08, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
If you're a serious DOA player, this is NOWHERE as revealing as DOA's costumes. Compare Lei Fang's Dress (http://89.img.v4.skyrock.com/894/jann-lee77/pics/254973061_small.jpg) to the one on the right in the Kotaku article. All the VF team is doing is giving players more options and themes to draw from. *the bunny costume is a common sight in both Japan and America, not exclusive to DOA*.
Drugs in VF5??
[edit]For some reason, the European Game authority (PEGI) says that there are drugs in this game[1]. Any info on why that is?
I notice a bottle icon next to Shun's portrait in videos of the game. Is there some special mechanic related to alcohol for this character, besides his fighting style? --Jules.LT (talk) 08:34, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Last installment?
[edit]Is this the last Virtua Fighter installment? I'm not sure if the press acknowledges it, but logic highly suggests it is. 104.172.119.172 (talk) 18:13, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware that was up to some random person on the internet to make that statement for SegaAM2 based on no source given at all. There are dozens of franchises that haven't been updated in years and no one is stating that's the final one in that series since we of course don't work for those companies and therefore, shouldn't be stating such things.108.208.137.161 (talk)
- In TV series articles, we can add the end date if the show does not air a new episode within one year. Looking for a source indicating the show's cancellation is just another option. If we would determine the status of a TV series based on time, why not video game franchises? 104.172.112.209 (talk) 22:04, 6 July 2022 (UTC)
- WP:WHATABOUTX? Because those are two different kind of media. Just because a latest entry in a particular video game series was years or even decades ago doesn't make it the final or last entry. If we're saying something will not happen that's reverse WP:CRYSTAL. For a similar discussion I had years ago, see Talk:Bubsy#Bubsy 3D. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 19:30, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
- Another reason why Virtua Fighter 5 can be called the last game in its series is that there has not been any news regarding a sixth installment. If it is so-called WP:CRYSTAL to call this game the last installment, would you say the same thing about the one-year rule about TV articles? The one-year rule is something widely agreed upon by users. If the latest game in a franchise does not have a successor for years or decades, and there has not been any news about a successor either, shouldn't that imply that the franchise's developers have implicitly quit? Yes, there are a handful of franchises (like Bubsy which you added here) that released game after such a period, but those are very exceptional cases. 104.172.112.209 (talk) 00:03, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
- Again, WP:WHATABOUTX. We're not talking about a TV series, this is a video game. Wikipedia has different guidelines on television and video games. That a latest release in a franchise was a long time ago does not mean that will be the last. It's your own conclusion that because there is no news it means the latest one will be the last one somehow. 2020's Doom Eternal is the latest entry in the Doom series; 2013's BioShock Infinite and Grand Theft Auto V are the latest entries for their respective series; 2008's Turok in the Turok franchise; 2003's Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike is the latest in the Rogue Squadron series. And so on. We don't say it's the last game, because there's no way for us to know that. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 06:59, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
- In the case of Doom Eternal, because that game was released only 2 years ago, there's a considerable chance for a sequel. As for BioShock Infinite, there is information about a sequel. Anyway, are you saying that a video game series lasts forever even if it stops releasing games? 104.172.112.209 (talk) 13:55, 9 September 2022 (UTC)

- To say that this game will have sequel is the one that needs sourcing because people usually don't expect sequels unless they get news about it. To say that this game is the final one only requires an absence of a sequel over a long period of time (Ten years should be quite long enough.) as well as no news regarding the series' future. And besides, developers don't always announce if their done with a game series. 104.172.112.209 (talk) 19:07, 10 September 2022 (UTC)
- "x amount of time passed equals no further release" or "developer or publisher hasn't released any news regarding a possible sequel of a particular franchise so that means that the latest one is the last one" is your own personal thoughts on the matter. As I've shown, that's not how Wikipedia works. Don't add your own interpretation. In this article or any other. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 20:19, 10 September 2022 (UTC)
