First in the west

I cut the claim that it was the first "railroad to be built west of the Appalachian Mountains in the United States". The Pontchartrain Rail-Road in New Orleans is clearly also west of the Appalachians, and predates it by a couple years. Discuss "first" claims on Talk:Oldest railroads in North America. When I wrote that, the article gave the start date as 1836, postdating the Pontchartrain; the 1829 start date now predates that. By the way, when were steam locomotives introduced to the line? -- Infrogmation 00:43, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And now I see it's at 1832-34, and no claim is made as to being first west of the Appalacian. -- Infrogmation (talk) 21:12, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
