"Why did someone screw up Trevor's page? It was perfectly fine a few months ago but someone came in and removed a bunch of information and somehow it got flagged for -trying to be factual-."

First Belmont

[edit]

Trevor was not the first Belmont to kill Dracula, Sonia was. Sonia killed Drac in 1450, while Trevor did so in 1476. I've removed the error from the trivia section. Aspect Of Shadows 18:03, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sonia Belmont is non-canon. All games made post-Gekka/Symphony by anyone other than Koji Igarashi have been oficially retconned by Konami.

Random commentary

[edit]

Having seen this article on the requests for assessment, I don't understand the need for this article beyond what's in Castlevania characters#Trevor Belmont (1476-1479). The various discussions of what is or is not canon (a loaded word in and of itself), commentary like "very exposed thighs", and a complete lack of anything resembling a true out-of-universe perception, all lead me to suspect this article is unnecessary.

As such, my suggestion is that this article be redirected to the main characters list. Nifboy 09:50, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Get one more user to say that, and it shall be done. KristenDArgyle 23:42, 2 July 2007 (UTC)KristenDArgyle[reply]

+1 to Nifboy. Now get on with it! --User:Krator (t c) 01:07, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It is done. Nifboy 06:57, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You know what? I think I disagree. True, I did the majority of the editing and writing of this article, but I can't see how more information is particularly condemnable. Canon in the Castlevania series is tricky. The director himself stated he thinks of a gameplay system first and then picks a time period it would fit, and plot/character has never exactly been first and foremost in mind for the series. Story has been rearranged, characters omitted, refitted, redesigned, and often won't keep the same hair color for more than a game or two. The only way to keep track of it is by whatever is in the "official" timeline and whatever game is most recent and whatever it claimed "happened." Canon has to be discussed and contradictions pointed out because someone who had only played Castlevania III would have a very different view of who Trevor Belmont is. Maybe it's unnecessary, but it's informative and I disagree that the perspective is not out-of-universe. I would prefer suggestions to make it better instead of downright redirection. If "plot/character has never exactly been first and foremost in mind for the series", then why should it be first and foremost for the encyclopedia? I don't understand the need to place all this emphasis and do all this work trying to keep track of and piece together a timeline that the creators themselves did not work particularly hard on. Most of the sources in the article, official and otherwise, barely touched on Trevor's character, and so we should give him the same amount of due weight (which he has). Because there's a chance someone looking the character up might. But I suppose I'm not a minimalist when it comes to information. The more the merrier. KristenDArgyle 03:42, 6 July 2007 (UTC)KristenDArgyle[reply]
You may want to move some of the article over to the Castlevania Wiki on Wikia; the rules on Wikia are a lot looser than that of a general encyclopedia. Nifboy 04:44, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the suggestion, but I find the Castlevania Wiki on Wikia to be just a little too loose. I mean, I've found information that is ridiculously (or incorrectly) interpretive. At least I try to cite sources. But hey, apparently I'm not helping anyway. KristenDArgyle 05:07, 11 July 2007 (UTC)KristenDArgyle[reply]
You might want to check general gaming wikis like StrategyWiki, Encyclopedia Gamia, GamerWiki or GameInfo. --User:Krator (t c) 10:27, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
